Our flight got cancelled 2 hours before our pickup time. We called both numbers that are provided in the confirmation email and no one answered. We then texted the WhatsApp number and they only responded after the driver had been waiting for 30 minutes. We had no idea he was even there. We were informed that there would be a $50 waiting fee charge. When I asked were it was stated that there would be a charge for waiting we were told that they can assess any fee they wish. When I continued to ask for written proof that the "fees" are listed anywhere on the emails the man I was texting with told me to "Please make your own way, We are releasing the driver." He then accused us of being scammers. Thankfully we were already on the bus when that text came through. At the airport the driver demanded that we either pay via PayPal "friends and family" or cash. After cash was given he refused to give a reciept. When the driver left the man on WhatsApp blocked our number. Then the driver had the audacity to ask for a tip after snatching $50 from us! It is clear who the scammers are in this situation. Without a receipt we cannot claim this money back on our travel insurance. Book with someone else, literally anyone else!

They can be a bit hit and miss when it actually comes to turning up, but usually they're ok if you've booked for a specific time, but if you're in a rush on a Friday or Saturday evening and you don't live in a busy area, you may be waiting a while! The drivers will usually pick the longest fare so they get the most out of it and despite it being illegal, trying to get a cab after a night out on Friday and Saturday (not to mention public holidays) can be a nightmare as the drivers look for the best fares. Also, it's best if you have a general idea of the route you want to take as some of the drivers obviously haven't looked at a map in a long while and will tend to get a bit lost if it's not an obvious location. Taxis Combined is connected to Silver Service and the other companies, so when you book with them you could end up with any of them depending on who's about your area. Oh and if you're a pedestrian about to cross at the lights and it's going red, if you see a taxi approaching, just take a step back because it's unlikely to stop until it's definitely red!

I had already booked a ride with DiDi (a rideshare service similar to Uber), but the hotel staff assured me that GM Cabs would cost about the same and was available immediately, so I wouldn't have to wait. Trusting their advice, I took the GM cab at 6:20 AM to the airport, which is 11 kilometers away. My DiDi fare was quoted at $41.00, so I expected the GM cab to cost no more than $45 at most. Upon arriving at the airport, the meter displayed $41.95. When the driver asked if I was paying by cash or card, I chose card. To my shock, I was charged $71.25 instead. I immediately emailed GM Cabs to report the issue, but to my dismay, they never responded. Warning: Avoid GM Cabs when visiting Sydney. Instead, use reputable alternatives like 13cabs, DiDi, general taxis, or public transportation.

I was picked up near Bondi Junction and gave the driver the address which was just a couple miles away. He picked me up on the same street as the street address I gave him. He drove so fast I couldn't see the addresses on the retail storefronts we were passing, and the addresses seemed to skip around. He finally stopped to look it up after turning off the street we were on and driving a couple blocks. He then went back up the same street we'd come down to the address I had requested. I complained and he refused to identify himself or adjust the fare to account for him getting lost. I photographed the license number and gave it to the taxi commission. The fare back to Bondi Junction was half what I was charged on the first trip. It turns out the authorities just give complaints back to the cab company, in this case Legion Cabs, and they don't really do anything. A complete waste of my time.
