This should be the gold standard of retail (unfortunately many other big retail stores just don't get it, and because of that their business isn't so good). When you walk in you are greeted by staff, where you can either ask them questions, or you can go about your business browsing or finding what you're looking for. The store also has free wifi which attracts a lot of people, and particularly handy if you are out of town (note - Apple Store wifi is the same GLOBALLLY). The purchasing process is very interesting too, where you there are three ways of buying stuff. The first way is the very traditional method of going to the cash register and checking out. The second way is very useful if you are paying by card, is that you can find a staff member who carries around portable terminals to pay for the item. The added bonus is that you can have your receipt emailed to you (and your email address is saved with your card) - How green is this option. And last but not least, you can take the items and scan it yourself and walk out (make sure you get a receipt though so you don't get in trouble for shoplifting). This option is handy if the store is very busy and all you want is a new set of headphones (but you can't buy big ticket items like Macs on this).

This part of King and George Streets has this New York feeling; with a bus stop conveniently situated outside this establishment. There is no Apple store like it. A great convenient oasis in Sydney for buying those extra set of iPhone headphones, and laptop bags for your MacBook Pro. The service is smart and slick; and it is great to be able to enrol in a course or two on how to use your MacBook and iPhone more effectively. This is a great idea. This outlet enhances the brand reputation of Apple, and you feel great about purchasing (and even owning) an Apple product or two. One of my secrets (not so secret anymore) is that this establishment is also a great pit stop for charging your mobile phone on the go; provided you bring your own charger, and plug it into one of the MacBooks; the staff don't even care that your doing this; especially when the store gets busy (most of the time). It was awesome to see a little memorial with best wishes and flowers for Steve Jobs a couple of days ago at the main entrance in paying our respects for this great legend who is already sorely missed.

WOW, what an amazing store, I absolutely love the iTunes Live events which are held here on a regular basis, come on, they're free live music event's in an amazing location, and you don't need to buy alcohol just to be cool. Boy & Bear, Gypsy and the Cat, Pete Murray and many more awesome names have come through the doors. Apart from the fun and games here, the store is filled with great knowledgeable staff, and is the best bet for the most amount of stock out of any other store in Sydney - if the others sold out, try the Sydney Flagship store. If you're not in the mood to buy another toy, then come along to the classes, they're all free. I went to a 4 week course on Adobe Premiere, not even an Apple Application, and the course is still free, and great quality! If you're having trouble with your product, or service there, head upstairs to the Genius bar, and you can chat straight with the technicians, and hopefully they'll sort out a solution for you - even if it's out of warranty, just ask anyway, they've been very generous to me and my friends in the past.

I'm going to go right ahead and say that Apple is worth 4 stars. I always find the service incredibly friendly, upbeat and genuinely helpful. I get the impression that these guys really love their jobs. If you have booked yourself into the Genius Bar however (which is the reason I am usually here), waits can be long despite having a booking time. As a general rule I usually add 25 minutes onto the booking to get the time of your actual appointment. When you do finally get to chat with someone about an issue with your iPhone/iPod/iPad/Macbook or whatever, the service you receive is second to none. Take for example the time when my iPhone was playing up and I hadn't made a booking until after my 12-month warranty expired (I was outside by 28 odd days or so). I went through the problems with George and after it was discovered that the phone couldn't be fixed, MJ was kind enough to let the warranty issue slide and replaced my phone for free. I left the Apple Store incredibly impressed with the service and their willingness to always put the customer first. It is no doubt that Apple is slowly taking over the technological world, and with customer service such as theirs, it is obvious to see why.

On the saddest day that a computer shop can have, I walked past the outlet to see flowers being laid down, reporters interviewing key staff about how the loss of their visionary leader will effect them and I remembered when I had purchased my mac from this very store that I now strolled past. When you enter the Apple Store on George street, about half way between Town Hall and Martin Place, the first thing you notice is how many people are in the store. The second you thing you notice is that about fifty percent of the people occupying in the store are wearing bright blue shirts and lanyards. The place is decked out with customer service trained professionals. You can barely put a foot inside the glass-walled building without being asked, "Can I help you?" There are two schools of thought on this level of service, the first school being that one should do everything to make the customer happy. The customer is who is paying your wages. The customer shouldn't even be given the chance to realise where they are, before you offer them your aid. Then there's the other school of thought, my school of thought, "Too much customer service is just as bad, if not worse than not enough." You should be able to enter the premises of a retailer without feeling like you're being suffocated with eager salesman forcing their help down your throat, choking on their feverish need to make sure that you have everything you're after, unless what you're after is a bit of personal space. But what the Mac Store has going for it, apart from the teeming mass of customer service specialists, is the product, you don't go into a mac store unless you want a mac, or some personal contact, because if you're feeling lonely and know enough about not knowing enough about computers, you could have your own personal sales assistant for an entire day, listening to them explain what you need and how to set it up. So if you like customer service and advice, then by all means, this is the shop for you. But if you're the type of person who goes to the supermarket and would rather the automated check out than the staffed till, then perhaps stick to Internet Shopping.

JB Hi-Fi is an electronics store chain that reminds me of a smaller size version of the US chain,…read moreBest Buy. They even use a similar color of yellow in their company logo. Unlike Best Buy which has stores with huge square footage, JB stores are smaller and tend to be located in shopping centers. There are four stores alone in the Sydney CBD. This location is one of the stores in Sydney CBD. It is located on the lower ground floor of World Square near Coles and Miracle Supermarket. The store has a lot of offerings for your home including computers, tablets, mobile phones, TVs, video games, CDs and DVDs. While I didn't peruse the whole store, the advertising at the store emphasizes their low prices. I spent my time primarily in the CD section which was surprisingly sizable. The new releases here are priced around $20 (about $15.20 US), but they have a bargain bin here with some fairly recent released albums for under $10 (about $7.60 US). Since Amazon isn't in Australia and there aren't many music stores around due to iTunes, JB Hi-Fi is one of the best places in Sydney to buy CDs. If you are looking for the best prices on your home entertainment needs, the best place to start looking in Sydney is JB Hi-Fi. They have stores everywhere. So if you can't find something at one location, you might be able to find it at another nearby store.
