I used to be an Apple girl. I have been the proud owner of various iPods, iPhones, Mac minis, a MacBook Air, and likely more accessories over the years. Since I switched from an iPhone 6 to a couple of Google Pixel phones, I haven't had a need to go into the Apple Store. I am still using my old Mac mini and MacBook Air, which are getting close to being a decade old. They cause the occasional hiccup now and again, but they still work. I don't think that I will get another one soon, but they have been good investments. While at Rideau Centre on Canada Day, I saw this Apple Store and walked in. I looked at a pair of Mickey Mouse wireless headphones by Beats. They were going for $300. Wow! I was looking at the new iPhone models. They looked slick, but I am so enamoured of my Google Pixel phone that iPhones are dead to me. However, I do like the new iPod touch. I love music. I like the idea of housing all your music on a device and playing it without streaming. As an example, on this drive to Montreal, my rental car only has AM and FM radio settings. It would have been nice to have an iPod with all my music on it and not think about steaming it. An Apple staff member came over and we talked about the new iPod touch. The one and only Ottawa Apple store is located downtown, in the Rideau Centre shopping mall. It's located on the second floor, in the southwest corner of the mall. Here you will find all the products that Apple has to offer. iPhones, iMacs, MacBooks and iPad 2s are presently elegantly on acrylic stands for any and all to explore. Need a boost to your iPhone? Go ahead - plug it in and recharge. Want to check your facebook/twitter/yelp? Go ahead with their free Wifi. Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon to get some rubber grips replaced on the bottom of my laptop. Place was an absolute zoo, but an employee greeted me right away, walked me to her co-worker, who in turn brought me to another employee who eventually took my laptop. Should the same thing happen to your laptop (and you don't keep the rubber grips after they fall off) they're supposedly $12 each to replace. If you do keep them like I did, they'll re-glue them for no charge. Free wi-fi, obviously. read more

I had a problem with downloads on my iphone and the problem was fixed efficiently and effectively by Gabriel. In fact, he went above my expectations. While there, I also had the opportunity to observe all the people that they have to deal with and they remained professional throughout even with difficult people as well as language barriers. they have the worst collection of people working there. They are all out to lunch and aren't helpful or courteous at all. I just purchased a macbook and I'm having issues with the battery life. I purchased this based on the sales pitch that this would have up to 10 hours of battery life. Fine, I get it, it's "up-to". But when I'm getting only about 6 hours on a 100% charge, 10 hour battery life claim seems a bit excessive. Anyways, walked into this apple store today (where I bought the macbook a few days ago) and told them of my battery issue. I spoke with KYLE who said; "seems like you're just here to complain, I gave you options, and that's all I can do". The "option" he gave me was to bring in my new machine back to the store that day. When I explained to him that I'm busy and will be travelling out of the country starting tomorrow, he just looked at me blankly. Other members of this store are also equally incompetent and unhelpful. I spoke with Deepak regarding the MS office issue that was caused by one of the apple "geniuses" (he basically turned my account into french and I didn't know how to switch back to English. I don't speak french at all), When I finally got someone (deepak) on the phone after a long wait, he just kept telling me to go ahead and use the system. He did not seem to understand that I cannot use the system because someone from his store turned everything into french. I understand that this is just a retail job and they probably don't care (as demonstrated by their rotten attitude), but the managers should at least care who they hire, train and represent the brand. No one wants to spend 1500+ dollars on a computer that does not deliver the battery life performance that it advertised and be told "you just want to complain" when they inquire about the issue. read more

I enjoy my Apple products for the most part. My only complaint being they malfunction on a semi-regular basis. Thankfully I'm minutes away from the Apple Store, where if I want to put up with the pretentious attitudes of the associates and the sea of upper middle class families buying their 4 year olds their first iPhone, I can get these malfunctions fixed, with some difficulty of course. So I've had a total of 7 apple products in my life and 1 one of them went its entire career without malfunctioning, so this means I've had very regular visits to this store, so really I could write a small novel here but i think my latest visit summed it up. My macbook charger stopped working the other day. Luckily since its on warranty I was able to run in and get a new one free of charge. I came in first thing to notice a large group of people waiting for the newest ipod that must be 27 miligrams lighter than the last one, now in the colour aquamarine for just $200 more. I spoke with the lady in the front who explained this ipod launch was a special event and the genius bar was closed. However, she could have a "genius" see me in 10 minutes. The people that repair products are not technicians, they're geniuses, just in case you didn't know. Carefully selected straight from MENSA. So as it turns out they were unable to give me a charger because I didn't bring my laptop with me, just the charger. I didn't think this would be an issue since my laptop is registered to me and the laptop isn't what is broke it is indeed the charger. They could have easily looked me up and found the products I had registered to me but they didn't and so I had to go home and get my laptop. So when I got back, I was told a genius was unable to see me for another hour. I had things to do and couldn't wait a hour. Annoyed by having to run back and fourth and then having them tell me I have to wait, I went to speak with a manager who kindly handed me a new charger... Without even asking about my laptop. This was one of my smoother interactions with the apple store. Another one consisted of them saying my ipod was water damaged when that was absolutely impossible, and when I tried to argue it they had security escort me out. Hey, it's Apple. Beautifully designed stores, amazing products, and pretty decent selection of non-Apple items. Just like my review of Chapters, if you have been to one Apple store, you have been to them all. If you are in a rush, book your services ahead of time. Apple stores are pretty busy pretty much all of the time. It is due to the number of people in the store that I find it difficult to give Apple stores a 5/5 experience. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to find yourself waiting for service or trying to work your way through a crowd. This doesn't bother me too much as I have come to expect it. However, I can see how this would drive people crazy. However, once I am helped, I have not been disappointed. Staff has generally been courteous and efficient. I don't doubt the other Yelpers that have had poor experiences, but I'm happy to say that I have not experienced their frustrations. Great store, great products, but go in knowing that it is a busy environment and you may not be helped the second you need it. read more

I have never had a bad experience with an Apple Store associate, until today at the Rideau Centre branch. My brother in law and myself reserved an iPhone 6 each, for scheduled pickup at 2 pm. However, it was quite a drive to get there, so we decided to show up as soon as the store opened at 11 am. I spoke to an agent a few days prior and they said the reservations should be valid for the entire day and could be picked up at anytime as long as I have a reservation and it was on the same day. Unfortunately we ended up with an extremely condescending, annoyingly smug, and extremely UNKNOWLEDGEABLE staff member named Jason. When we said we were there to pick up our phones, he said, in a VERY SELF-CONGRATULATORY fashion (like he REALLY took pleasure in being a Schadenfreude and relished the fact that he was a jerk) that: - we can not pick up our phones until 2 pm because they were only allowed to release a certain number of phones per hour. I asked why it should matter, because I had them reserved anyways. He couldn't give me a straight answer, and said we should go back at 2 pm. - I mentioned that I had already spoken to an agent, and he told me that agent was WRONG. - he said they will only reserve the phone for until Three hours AFTER the reservation, and not prior. Of course, all of these are NOT true because I have consulted with an Apple agent days before. So not only was this Jason extremely unpleasant, he was clearly unwilling to help AND was giving us false information or policies that are apparently not possible to adapt ad hoc. My brother-in-law and I kept our cool, walked out of the store, and immediately called the exact same store by phone. Spoke to a very helpful girl from stock (I think her name was Jessica) and we asked if we can pick up the phone even if our reservation was not until 2 pm, and she said it was ok since the store isn't busy and we have a reservation anyways! We went in, and the look on Jason's face when we said we spoke to another staff member and she said we can pick up the phones NOW was priceless, and he just slithered away into a corner, maybe to be his self-centred self with another unassuming customer. An helpful and friendly associate named Atif gladly helped us out and gave us our phones, and assisted us in buying cases as well. He said it shouldn't be a problem picking up the phones and we told him our experience. So, bottom line is, there are some extremely helpful and knowledgeable people who work at the Apple Store who are friendly and do not think they are above the customer. Don't let an experience with the occasional jerk associate prevent you from being a customer and make you buy your products elsewhere instead. Take a stand against jerks. read more

I went in with my 4+ year old computer, expecting them to tell me my computer is done for good. My Apple Genius managed to get all the problems I had fixed, for free, with a very short wait. Apple has amazing customer service, it is the reason I do all my tech business with them. I will continue to refer friends and family to their products. Never in my life have I ever received such abysmal customer service... After a month-long fiasco with my Macbook retina pro, I finally received my laptop. To be brief: during my ordeal with apple and my macbook, I had to make multiple trips back and forth to the rideau apple store, spend hours on the phone speaking to apple representatives, pay over a thousand dollars to repair a macbook that is just over a year old, and I subsequently lost over a thousand dollars from missing work as my job requires me to have a functional computer. The customer service throughout this incident was beyond atrocious and I would never recommend anyone to ever give their business to this store. read more

I love this store. Candy for the eyes and a playground for Apple Fans. Although I know this is a marketing technique everything in this store has a flow and is beautifully laid out and I love it. The staff is always friendly and always looking to help. They strive to get you in touch with someone that will be able to answer your questions or help you with your shopping experience. Like I said before, this store is all about the flow from the moment you get into the door to the fast checkout. I also learned that you can now self-checkout with the Apple Store app on your iPhone which makes it even easier. I took an appointment at the Rideau Centre Apple Store clearly indicating that it was for a screen repair. It is said on the web site that they will try to repair the screen during the visit. The appointment was for 4:30, we showed up on time and waited for more than 15 minutes before someone was free to serve us and end up saying that we had to leave the phone or come back the following day to leave anyway for them to take the day to repair it. No more we will try to repair it (replace a screen) during your visit! We drove from Stittsville to Rideau Centre with the expectation that the problem would be solved during our visit. They know that people would not agree to leave their phone like that. We would drive all the way if we knew they will not kept their promise; they didn't even try. The person serving us was not friendly and quite arrogant. We were Very disappointed. read more

After having a pretty bad customer service experience a few months earlier, I had basically given up on solving an icloud account problem. Then over the past couple of weeks my iphone was crashing and basically became unusable so I booked an appointment. I had decided that if they couldn't solve it I was switching to Android. My son needed to catch an international flight but couldn't be accommodated to replace a power cord for his still under warrantee (less than 6 months old) power cord. The assistant in this claiming-to-be oh-so-accommodating Apple outlet couldn't see his way to speeding up the process. We couldn't wait. The power source was defective and the service autocratic. We spend more money expecting better quality and more cooperation, and only got to spend too much money. It would appear the real brand Apple is promoting is unquestioning bad service and bad quality. read more

All i wanted was a set of headphones cause mine didnt work. The lady told me come back in 30 min. I did but there was a huge line to get to one person thag was on the floor. All the others were at the genious bar thing. I waited and then my phone goes off saying i missed my deadline to come back in 1 hour. I tell the lady that i have been waiting another 30 min just to speak with someone for the stupid headphones. She then, puts me at the bottom of the list because she said i didnt make it in time... i was BEFORE the time but waited 30 min just cause she helped someone else so i lost my spot. Then she tells me its going to take a while just go at the computers and wait there. Well they forgot me again. Then i got a guy and he said ohh you didnt have to wait that long its just for headphones. He gave me a new one and left. They said that there is nothing wrong with my phone battery when there clearly as my phone won't charge and my battery dies quickly. Service was terrible, store was chaotic, but I guess that represents Apple as a whole. Products that stop working properly after a year and a half, even though their products are the most expensive. And also my touch screen stopped working, and it costs $169 to fix! They should fix it for free as I paid $750 for my iPhone 6. Apple has become a criminal, corrupt company. read more

I came in to swap out my headphones, I was told to come back in 50 minutes and they texted me after 10 minutes so I came back and informed the worker I had originally arranged the appointment with. I went and sat at the genius bar to wait for a worker to help me (as it works in the one I usually go to in Toronto). The worker who approached me was beyond condescending when he told me I should have informed one of them otherwise they don't know I'm waiting there. I told him "oh it's okay I have only been here less than a minute" and he told me "yup we know because you walked right by us" and went on to elaborate how important it is to tell them I had arrived and talking to me as if I were a child. The worker who then switched out my headphones for me lectured me on how I shouldn't have them tangled, but again spoke to me as if I were brain dead. Don't quite understand where they get their arrogance from or why they think I'm there to listen to their spiel about how important it is to let multiple people know when I arrive but I just wanted my broken headphones exchanged. read more

If I can give zero stars I will. I have been longing to get my mother an iPhone 8 plus and I thought that today was the day. Once I entered the store, I immediately asked for assistance because I knew that I was going to purchase it. Then, I waiting for 5mins along with my friend. I could not stand for longer, I went to an available worker. She was very nice and productive, she can easily adapt to a variety of situations. After purchasing the iPhone, I went to set up manually/ in store. The iPhone looked gorgeous, I felt the need to be cautious with the phone. At the time, I didn't have a SD card so they made a partial (BELL) one for me. After inserting the SD card, the phone began to lag. I asked politely for the assistant at the table. She was very kind and recommended to restart the phone but the phone was so glitchy that I was enable to slide the power bar shown on the screen, force quit didn't work either. The assistant then asked one of her co-workers for help. She then came back saying it was a feature. I was contemplating " If it really was a feature, how come she didn't know about it....). That was the moment when I was deciding whether or not I should exchange for another iPhone. My mother than came with her SD card and we switched out the temporary one. Then came the verification code stage. We chose the option to receive a text message. We waited for 3 mins and never received the message. Hence, we clicked for the option for a call. We could not hear anything, it was very faint and soft but after multiple listens we were able to list the codes. Once we applied the codes the page, it did not go threw. We informed the same assistant and she asked a technician to come and help. I had to re-enter my apple id and they still did not figure out what happened. They then told me to call tech support and I did. After 43mins of calling , we were able to fix the problem. Therefore, I was at the apple store for an hour and 30 mins when it should've only taken 10 mins top. Finally I returned it, but am expecting to get another one at Bayshore instead. This store is rotten to the core! Don't get me wrong, I love my Apple products, but the people that work in this store are a$$holes. We had a problem with my mum's iPad and took it to be looked at. We knew the problem couldn't be fixed (multi touch was broken) and a rep Andrew was kind enough to say "yes, we will replace it." We took an appointment for the next day, had to wait 10 mins after our time until someone came to finally service us. The arrogant idiot we got wanted us to "re-prove" our problem even though Andrew passed by and told him about the situation. Fine, done. He then offered to replace it with a "re-manufactured" iPad. I had to argue with him for over 15 mins that we do not want a "re-manufactured" (the equivalent of refurbished in normal lingo) since my mum was going over seas and did not have the luxury of an Apple Store to fix her iPad again. I finally gave up when he said "We do not have any new iPad 4's to give you, and I do not know what else to say to convince you that re-manufactured is the same as brand new". So we tucked our tails between our legs and took his re-manufactured iPad. Within an hour of using the "new" iPad, it completely died and on reboot, gave me nothing but the wonderful blue screen of death! Yay!!! Fucking horrible. This place is absolutely trash.Every time I go in they act like youre privileged to finally get to be able to talk to one of the "technicians." When I talked about my Apple beats products that had broken after a few days they told me it was my fault that i had externally damaged it. Im very careful with my things and didnt do anything to break it, and for such a "good quality product" it should last longer than a few fucking days especially for 150 bucks. After about and hour They told me they couldn't do anything about it they left me in the chair for another hour and a half with little to no explanation. The guy never came back and i had to ask someone where he went.. he came back in a huff saying he couldnt do anything and to wait for an email "Like i was annoying him" and took my earphones. After receiving an email saying they had information about my product I called back and they couldn't find my product number or first name. I got another email a few days later saying i could come and retrieve my product. When I stopped by today they told me that they didnt find my name or my product and later said they threw it out.. the bearded guy was smirking about it and was happy to see me upset. $140 down the drain. I'm a high school student and saved up for these for months. All i wanted was to get them fixed or for a wuote and i end up with wasted money and someone being a fucking asshole on both occasions.
