Favorite golf course to visit outside of Sacramento. The trees, crisp air, wildlife and golf is one the best environments you should be happy to be alive and experience. We usually visit this place couple of times a year and are always happy to have made the trip. Although the staff can be mundane, especially the dude assigning the carts, we are always having a great time losing our balls and hitting our sticks here. The price is a bit steep and should definitely be cheaper. I have been to lots of golf courses around California and there are definitely cheaper and better courses out there but there is something special about this location. The polish hot dog is definitely a must try here. read more

Really fun course! Very intimidating at first glance but after we started following the "helpful tips" sheet the starter gave us it all started to flow! Don't need to hit driver all the time here at all, hybrids, irons and you'll be good. Very scenic and experience was very nice. Hope to play here again soon! read more

Amazing course and great pro shop staff, but the guy at the grill is flat out rude. He seems miserable, acts like helping customers is a burden, and gives off the impression that he cannot stand being there. His attitude is unwelcoming and disrespectful, and it honestly makes you not even want to stop at the grill. I am still giving 5 stars because I love the course and the pro shop team is great, but I really hope management addresses the grill experience because that kind of treatment stands out in a bad way. Ok. I will start with the good. The course is beautiful. The workers are very nice and the driving range is fun but trying to gauge your daily distance is not possible. The bad. They tee you off in 10 min increments causing major back ups. On our day two guys decided to bring their girlfriends who had never golfed before. (I am all for this just not on this course) yes they were in front of us. We had a single with us who showed up late and in a T shirt. He arrived after we tee'd off and they had us wait for him even thought there was another group behind us with only two people. Here is the worse part... This course is a beautiful course but the fairways and greens are in horrible shape. Not from the grounds keeps but from the golfers. The fairways have divots with no attempts at repair everywhere. They are littered with grassy divots that should have been picked up and replaced. The greens are very tough which was fine. They were very hard and fast which is also ok. Thats golf! However, the ball marks were numerous. I would repair a minimum of 5-10 ball marks on every green and the greens were littered with ball mark scars from non repaired ball marks. When I say littered I mean these were worse than some of the worse courses I have played. It is such a shame. This course is very beautiful. Here are some things they can change. Hire a marshal that actually does his job. Make sure the pace is kept and ensure people fix their divots and ball marks. Start people in 15 minute increments. 10 minutes just causes unforgivable back ups on every hole making this a 5 hour plus course. Here is the most important thing.... Remind people to fix their divots and ball marks at the start up. You have a guy there to make sure groups go together and will hold up a group waiting for a late arrival. FOCUS on the course first. If someone is late to Check in then they lose their tee time. You should be checking in 10-15 minutes early not at your tee time then holding people up. I hope to see some good changes on the course. It is challenging and can be a top rated course if not for the above factors. read more

Played the course with impeccable weather and the course was outstanding, only problem is the Greenskeeper must have had a bad night, The pins were set up on uneven spots. They were impossible to stop your putts. Every Green has a lot of undulation, but when the pins are on a fall line, good luck. I dropped a ball by the hole and it ran off the green. read more

They used to have nice people working the grill. Now the guys working there are complete jerks. Didn't make the fries with my sandwich. Blamed me. 4.50 price bait and switch, and rude on top of that. I won't spend money in that grill ever again. They fired good people and replaced them with jerks. read more

I booked as a single on Fathers Day and brought my wife as I have done the past couple of years. Drove an hour and a half and went to check in. I was told 'No riders and you can't have your own cart you will be riding with someone else'. Never ever had that happen before even there. No apology offered just a stare. I left, went and played somewhere else and wrote an email to the course about the incident. They never even responded to my email. I'm done,I'll have to start a new tradition somewhere else now. read more

Booked two tee times for 2 pm and 2:15 pm on a Saturday a month in advance, no issues getting there/set up. Course marshall kills 10 minutes at the tee, says there's three tournaments playing today and the clubhouse closes in an hour (3pm) for an event. What they did not say was that this event was a Quinciñera with a DJ blasting Reggaeton across the entire course. Marshall rolls by on a cart around 5pm (hole 6) and says he's sorry, course is backed up all the way to 18 and keeps on going. We made it to hole 9 by 7pm and bailed since we were on pace to finish around midnight, and when we tried finding the course manager we found out he (conveniently) left at 3pm and only ever comes by on Tuesdays, and has ignored every call since then. The marshall needs to speed people up that are lagging and causing others to wait. Otherwise this is a beautiful (scenic) and well put together course. There is a Restaurant at the clubhouse that has pretty good food (and wine) that is made fast. All in all a good experience; we will be coming back. read more

This is a Resort Course. That means that it is not a fair test of golf, but a fun time with beautiful surroundings. Do not expect to score well. That should not be your goal. Bring 6 balls you expect to loose. Have fun and enjoy getting away from the craziness in the cities. read more

Beautiful golf course. However, I only went to eat lunch there. My dad suggested it since he played golf there a couple of times. When we arrived the parking lot was pretty packed due to the golfers but when we walked into the restaurant, there wasn't a line so we were able to walk up and order. Of course, after we decided wanted. We were greeted by a friendly employee, who was very patient. I ended up getting a crispy chicken sandwich with fries, my mom got chicken tenders and onion rings, and my dad got a burger with chips. The food came out pretty quickly, however tmy sandwich was just already. My parents were happy with their food though. They have a outdoor eating area that overlooks part of the golf course and honestly, one of the best views, I've seen in awhile; it was great. Honestly, I would visit again to eat with that view but I'll probably try something else on the menu read more

We always go around El Dorado County bec we often visit the Apple Hill farms for some goodies.. We swung by this area few miles ahead to take photos and try their cafe shop... We ordered Crispy Chicken in wrap with chips and drinks.. First of, the wraps were presented perfectly, the chicken was umami super crispy and delish... The moment it landed my mouth I knew this was so far one of the best crispy chix we've had... No need for condiments as the chicken alone leaves a savory taste... I played the course a year ago and haven't been back. My complaint is that too many fairways are roped off to keep the carts out so you repeatedly have to lug 3 or 4 clubs up and down hills because you can't judge the distance from the cart path. I'm a senior and I don't expect to walk 4.6 miles when I am riding, but that's what my pedometer read. The carts are geared low for stability so I believe they can navigate the steep slopes safely. Some of the ropes were knocked down so others were going out on the fairways. I was tired for 2 days after my round. Bring your A game you can lose a ton of balls. I eagled the 16th from the Gold so I want to go back, but it's just too much of a workout with all those ropes. read more

Course was in excellent shape , we played 36 and had a great time. Good breakfast burritos before the rounds , and excellent sandwiches between rounds , as my BLT was cooked perfectly. I had two out of town Texans and my work friends in my foursome and we had a blast. Excellence in golf is easily found at Apple Mountain. Even the cart staff who had to wait for us to get off the course has an excellent attitude. They must be paying them well. read more

Friendly, courteous staff. Excellent practice area for chipping , putting, sand trap and of course the driving range. This is a tough course and requires some good club selection strategy. Beautifully maintained and the scenery is amazing. Looking forward to my next tee time. read more

Awesome course as usual, and very nice staff all around. Played Saturday morning, wasn't too busy. Some frozen grounds here and there, but for this time of year its still in great shape. 3 stars, is based on pressure of pace of play. We played as a 2some, we only had to wait a minute or so on a handful of holes for the 4some ahead, so we just spent a little extra time with reading our putts instead of waiting at the box. The marshal advised them to pick up pace of play, then very nicely asked us to try and pass them. Being 15mins behind scheduled pace, they started picking up speed (we never felt they were way too slow). After the second time the marshal spoke with them, they started running to and from their shots and really picked up pace. The marshal then spoke with us again, reiterating if possible to pass the group and pick up speed. Again, was really friendly about it. The Third time around the marshal arrived as I hit my approach to the green. Spoke with us very nicely for 2-3mins about the pace, explaining how he has "100 golfers coming behind us, and will impact all of them". He looked at the time chart and said we should be walking off that green at 9:36 (it was 9:37 at this moment). We didn't have a group within 4 holes behind us. We caught up to the 4some sprinting to and from their carts, and they allowed us to play through. We ended at 3hrs 59mins with the 4some not far behind. Suggested round time posted by the course is 4hr 30mins. Again, course, food, ALL the staff are all great. I understand emphasis on pace of play, but taking into consideration it was cart path only until 10am(slows pace significantly), and there was nobody catching up to us, it sort of ruined the experience rushing shots and jogging around. I will be back eventually and update my review, but definitely feel less motivated to drive 81miles to play there now. read more

Course is unlike any in the area with tight fairways and tricky greens. Offline shots and elevated greens will frustrate beginners or high handicappers. If you have an index under 15, you'll really enjoy it. Over 15, sit back and enjoy the scenery. Expect extra challenges in the winter, if open, due to cold and wet conditions. Course is kept up pretty well, but the views are what you come for! Great undulations from the mountainous landscape. Long shots, short shots, really a test. Wasn't told that a par 4 was under repair, and turned into a temporary par 3 with a 5 gallon bucket dug into the ground for a hole. Landed to less than 5 feet, but would that count as a hole in one had it gone in? Having a hard time with that haha Overall great experience, and looking forward to returning! read more

When i'm in the area, I normally play the Roseville/Lincoln courses, but a couple of weeks ago we found a good deal on Golf Now and decided to venture out and play Apple Mountain. The course is nestled next to Apple Hill, only 20-25 minutes from Sac. The course is very scenic, with lots and lots of trees Listed below are some highlights about the course: -Layout: Very challenging with lots of elevated tee boxes. There are a lots of blind approach shots and dog legs (single and double), and there are not a lot of flat lies on the course. There are a couple opportunities to go for the green in two (i.e. 9th and 18th holes), but I laid up most of the time, shooting a 89 in the process. Utilize the cheat-sheet clipped to the steering wheel in the cart as my golf GPS and cell reception was very spotty. -Tee boxes and Fairways are in good condition -Price: good deals on Golf Now and Golf Moose -Friendly staff -Pace of play was good. we played on a Saturday afternoon, 2pm, and finished in a little over 4 hours -Would play the course again read more

Online rate was 44$, my kids (ages 3,2) wanted to join me to watch me play. I came wanting to pay for my tee time. The guy at the front desk was like "I have to charge you a spectator fee since your kids are here" I was like, am I not paying for the cart with my tee time rate of 44$ like it said online? What difference will it make if I ride alone or with my child that's not even golfing? So he charged me 20$ for my kids to sit there and watch me golf. How dumb is that, super weird and not friendly what so ever. Should have left when that happened but we drove an hour. Next, same guy rolls around when I'm on the 4th green. I just finished and my older kid was sitting down next to my bad, he thought my kid was sitting there while I drove. The came up to me and said that's not a seat, I said that's fine. He then went on to say " I'm not asking you, I'm telling you he cannot sit there." I'm guessing he does not know that kids don't immediately respond and need about 2 seconds to do what you ask. Super weird dynamic with the staff, not friendly at all. I've played plenty of courses where the staff are extremely happy that you chose their course to play especially in our area where there's a golf course on every corner. Dudes name was JD. He needs a customer service course, not sure if he's mad about something in his personal life but there are plenty of appreciate ways to go about a situation. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

It's a beautiful amazing course but unfortunately would take 5-10 rounds to figure it out. It really is unique, carved into a mountain with tight twisting corkscrew holes of downhill and uphill with 2-3 club differences. And, just played and in good condition. But it's the extreme lies and fussy target golf nature that makes it frustrating. The course will destroy novice and casual golfers. Tons of blind shots. The experience and scenery are better than the actual golf. You will need to hit a lot of 180-210 shots off the tee. It's challenging as hell yet only sloped 127 from whites. Bring at least 6-8 balls. read more

Where do I begin? Visually STUNNING. A total challenge for me, and I was forewarned! Narrow course, lots of trees. WHO cares, I LOVED the challenge! This was a gift from my Hubby, he knew that I have wanted to play this course (again) for first time since 2007 (when my Ex tried to teach me to golf, not so patient!) The staff was TOP notch, friendly, and we even made friends with the Marshall. My Hubby reminds me not to chit chat, and be "golf ready." It's hard when you get excited, and I need to remind myself that golf selfies and posting on FB WHILE we are golfing is a NO NO! Loved the cafe' options, my turkey club was excellent. We have been taking a boys trip to Tahoe for years and someone told us we should hit this course on our way up. We decided to leave a day early to do so and I am SOOOOOOO glad we did. Pro Shop - Nothing amazing, standard shop Snack - The seating area is quite large, but the selection is pretty small. Nothing fancy, but the girls behind the counter were nice and they had 4-5 beers on tap Practice Area - Driving range was closed when we were their, but it looked nice. Putting green and chip/sand area were decent as well. Course - Play smart is all I can say. Some of the holes are short to psych you out..... don't fall for it. Play your 2nd shot off the tee, what I mean is whatever distance you want to hit to the green is the distance you want to make sure you get to off the tee. This course is not forgiving at all left or right. If you normally lose 1-2 balls a round bring an extra sleeve. If you normally lose 3-6 balls a round bring a dozen. If you lose a dozen a round keep your driver in the car :) Great course on your way up or back from Tahoe. read more
