I explained the situation, and he apologized because he said my order was too small for a delivery (I only needed 5lbs), so I would have to pick up dry ice from their shop on E 88th Street. Cool, no problem. Next morning, 8:30 am, i went to business address to pick up 5lbs, and called Tony but he was stuck in rush hour traffic for another hour. He graciously offered to drop off dry ice to my hotel before noon, during their normal deliveries. Even though it was a small order, he understood my situation and cared enough to help me keep my food frozen for the next few days, so my PA family can enjoy authentic Samoan food. This morning the very friendly employees were loading the freezer in my neighborhood. These are well stocked for the delivery men to pick up the ice for delivery when you need ice. I just dumbly said, "uuuuhhh. I need some dry ice?" The gentleman asked what I was shipping and where it was going, so that he could determine the perfect amount of dry ice to help the wings and pizza make the journey from Connecticut to Maine. He then CUT the slabs of ice to the perfect size to fit the coolers, REPACKED the food, ADDED FOIL to the wings container to ensure they wouldn't get freezer burn and PLACED paper bags between the ice and the food to protect all the food. His job was to sell me a block of ice and that's it. Making it all work is MY job and MY problem. He went well above and beyond to create the quintessential customer service experience. Crystal Ice in Norwalk is much closer to my house but they can't even bother to answer their phone. The Ice House and it's friendly, helpful and intelligent team are well worth the drive. I will shop here again and recommend the Ice House very, very highly!

"Wasn't this place on the left side of the street? Wasn't there an old black man that worked here?" My friends thought I was crazy. But these dudes confirmed that I wasn't. This was the place. Yes it moved from Bergen to St Marks. Unfortunately the owner died but I got to meet his son Me-Roc. He owns it now. And he's knowledgeable. Super knowledgeable about, of all things, ice. I had no idea about the "lucratvity" of the ice business. For instance did you ya know that dry ice is used for all kinds of shit: Tibetan funerals, specialty drinks, and pest control (wtf?).
