Arrived at Apple Dumpling Deli, 114 North Magnolia Rockport, Texas 78382 on July 3, 2025 for lunch. Ordered our lunch which consisted of a Rueben Sandwich while my wife ordered a Chicken Salad Sandwich on Sourdough. The place was crowded but we were seated immediately. Very attentive and superb service by the Wait-Staff! Plus the great Hot sandwich's we enjoyed! Sad to say but we were told that Saturday July 5, 2025 would be the last day for the Deli as they were closing up for good! This was a great Hidden Jewel that we enjoyed often! Blessings to all the Staff! We will miss you! My qualifications as an Expert and Experienced Food and Service Critic; I have over 65 years of Management Experience. I have a College Degree with a BS in Management and have been trained in two Culinary Schools, to include on the job training at other venues. I've managed full service as well as fast food restaurants and have had my own successful Catering business. As a Culinary Trainer, I have trained personnel on how to provide superb cuisine and sales and customer service. Our group of 6 had lunch a few days ago. Small place, cozy feel. Hard working staff! They bake their own sourdough bread, and it's the softest I've had. They had loafs to purchase, and we did. Used it to make french toast for our gang this morning, and not a crumb was wasted, they ate the entire loaf. Hubs and I shared a chicken salad sandwich - which had lots of dill in it, I haven't had that before, and I'll now be adjusting how I make chicken salad! Others had grilled cheese, and turkey/ham/cheese (build your own) sandwiches. We all enjoyed the meal, and plan to return for more bread! read more

Stopped in for a brunch date with my hubby! It's a small casual restaurant with cute apple themed decor and a little breakfast menu. I ordered the French Toast with a side of bacon and my husband got a coffee, which came in a hilarious mug, and the customizable omelette with sourdough toast. Absolutely horrible after new owners. Please beware this is not the same beloved restaurant. The bread is awful and the soup is watery and bland. They now charge extra for basics like lettuce and mayonnaise. The chicken salad was inedible. I have been eating there for over a decade and am deeply saddened at how awful it has become under the new management. *edit. Since the owner chose to reply so negatively to my honest review and say that a 70 year old retiree is a former waitress (I was 50 years ago in Ohio), I thought I would add photos from a recent review on a food site in Rockport. I've always loved this place. The baked potato soup is generally good, can be a little too watery at times, but still try it out. The chicken Waldorf sandwich is good. The sandwiches are large, so it's best to do a lite lunch, unless you want leftovers. The service is good and small town friendly. Definitely worth supporting a small business. read more

Arrived at restaurant after reading some good reviews around 1:30. Yelp showed they closed at 2:30. Sign on door said they were open and closed at 2:00. Sat down and waited awhile for someone to take our drink order. We ordered 2 unsweetened teas. We were told they were out of tea and would not be making anymore. So we ordered water. Heard from the waitress that they only had enough bread for the tables they had. Waitress took order from table next to us and I overheard that they were out of pumpernickel bread & some other bread. I was going to order the Ruben (another reason I wanted to go) we walked out without anyone saying anything to us. Based on reviews, was expecting better experience. My reuben was the smallest one I've ever rcvd at a restaurant and not that tasty. Thick, but quite small and sauce and cheese hardly there. With tip, small sandwich with a dill pickle (no side included) and ice tea was just shy of $20! IMO, not a good value. read more

While RV shopping in Rockport I did a Yelp search for a "deli" nearby. Apple Dumpling was right around the corner and, as it turned out, the perfect choice. The dining area is a bit tight, but there's still plenty of room to sit. The space is clean and somewhat "chic" with a country diner vibe. Our waitress came right up and took our order. I decided on the lunch special of a half sandwich and cup of soup. First came the soup, a beef stew. I was floored with how much they crammed into this cup! It had potato, green beans, carrots, corn, onion and HUGE chunks of roast beef. It was AWESOME - probably one of the best soups I've had in a restaurant. There was great seasoning and a rich, beefy broth. I could easily have just a big bowl of that stew with some crusty bread and be quite happy. And, speaking of "bread," let's say something about this sandwich! That has to be some of the freshest pumpernickel. It felt and tasted like it came right out of the oven that morning! It was grilled and stuffed with pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian (Thousand Island?) dressing. An excellent sandwich. Both this sandwich and that soup made for a really good lunch! Again, service was great - very friendly folks and quick to get your order out. The prices are good, too. Two lunch specials and teas for less than $30. We wanted to help Rockport businesses and now Apple Dumpling has given us a good reason to drive back and continue doing so. read more

This non descript sandwich shop is easy to miss as it sits on a side street. I found it on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The inside is small town diner shop styling. You walk in and take an open seat and a waitress comes to take your order. The menu is a reasonable size with good options. My husband got the tuna sandwich. He enjoyed the walnuts and cranberries that were in it. His only complaint was it was slightly too mayo laden. I ordered the egg salad sandwich. It was delicious. We both had our sandwiches on the homemade sourdough bread. The bread is a solid five as it was soft and delicious. We also both got a cup of tomato soup. My friends had the Reuben, the fried bologna sandwich, and the French dip. We all loved our meals. The sandwiches are really big, so consider that because you can also order a half a sandwich. You can purchase a bag of chips to go with your sandwich which comes with a pickle. We did not try the signature apple dumpling dessert, but someone nearby did and it looked amazing. Stopped by yesterday for the first time. Had read all the wonderful reviews. Was told it would be 20-30 minutes. We're seated in about 30 minutes. Waitress took our order. Said it was her last day. 45 minutes later half our order was delivered by another waitress. 30 minutes later I got the original waitresses attention and asked about the other half of our order. She was surprised it had not been delivered. Finally got the remainder of our order. Total time 2:00 hours. Food was so so. Found out new owners bought the place in August. Hope they get their problems figured out. Will not be going back. read more
