It would be terrible if the reputation of the business Charles and Fay put their life into was tarnished by one review, so that is why I am posting this review for a business that is no more. Thanks for the memories, Charles, Fay and team.

How different a business can be between what you hear on the phone and what you experience when…read moreyou're there in person. Even more stark for me was the difference between leaving my stereo equipment for servicing and repair and then collecting it once the work had been completed. Unexplained charges. "Oh, that's to pay 'Mr nnn' who works at the service counter." What? I've never heard of such a charge in all of my life! And you charged me to replace a part which I had just replaced? "Oh, it was worn out." (I hadn't even used the equipment since I had replaced that part, so I don't know how it could have been worn out.) Thankfully, they did delete that charge! Will I go back? For anything? I don't think so. In fact, I'm sure that I won't.

This was the first location we visited after relocating to Canberra from the U.S. We found the…read morestaff to be very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the amount of documentation needed for new residents to establish a new mobile service is lengthy, but the staff were helpful and patient. It took us a few visits and running around at no fault of the staff, but service was established. This was a good experience, but I only give it 4 stars as we quickly learned not all Optus employees and locations are equal and we were astonished at the rates charged in Australia for such outdated technology and poor mobile/internet coverage.

We were thoroughly impressed with the staff at this Telstra location both at establishment of our…read moreinternet/television service and when we have come in since for service increases/upgrades. There is often a queue, but they offer call back service which is very convenient if you stop by without an appointment. You leave your number and they call you back when your next in queue. The only reason I am not giving this location a 5 star rating is the pricing. Although, they are competitive with other big names locally, we are astonished at how expensive rates are for the archaic technology and disturbingly slow speeds available in Australia. The prices and speeds really are far from comparable with the rest of the developed world.

I took my mother's watches in to The Clock Doc be quoted for a repair. Previous quotes from 2 watch…read morerepairers in Canberra were around $400 to fix each of them. The watch repairer at The Clock Doc simply replaced the batteries. They are as good as new. This was also the case with my watch. It cost nothing for a quote from The Clock Doc, and $300 to fix rather than the $600 that was quoted, at a cost of $50 for the quote. My watch band is currently being quoted at no cost for repair - it will either be fixed or replaced at a reasonable cost. Another repairer said I would need a new case for my watch at a cost of $1000. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Canberra for watch repairs other than The Clock Doc.
