On a Sunday afternoon we were looking for a place to eat in Chemainus but everything seems to be closed. We ended up at a local market to inquire and the tall young cashier named Logan directed us to this restaurant. We thanked him and he told my husband to tell them "Logan sent you." Sure enough the tiny restaurant was open for business. It was a rainy Sunday but we were able to find street parking directly in front of it. The food selection was very limited like only 10 items on a one page menu. A sweet American lady took our order: * Beef Broccoli w/ Steamed Rice Combo * Wonton Noodle It was like eating at my mom's home. A plateful of broccoli w/ beef and rice. And was pleasantly surprised; a decent portion to share and enough chipotle sauce until the end of the bowl of fries. I ordered the full sausage dinner(they do their entire lunch/dinner menu all day) With side fries and seasonal vegetables - very good, sausages cooked all the way through, plenty of gravy covering both the fries and sausages. My partner ordered Fehttuchini Alfredo with shrimp, upon first glance it seemed to be under seasoned, white sauce on fettuccini noodles and shrimp throughout. Part way through eating; she had found a shrimp with the tail still attached. Not the biggest deal, it happens in our lovely island sometimes you get a shrimp tail. She was overall unhappy with her meal and ate about half of it before we went to cash out. We didn't bring attention of it until the end of her meal, which may be wrong in this case - but she didn't want to eat anything else off the menu. Just wanted to get the meal comped and make our way out. I brought the concern to our waiter whom also took payment of the bill, after a bit of back and forth he thought that taking 5$ off the fettuccini was fair recourse. Because it was only one shrimp tail "and that happens". While I agree, their was no other satisfaction and he generally didn't seem concerned that she hadn't enjoyed her meal and there was a technical "mistake". The knowledge he provided myself was that they get their shrimp from a bag from a different company, and she may have gotten the one shell. I unhappily paid the rest of the and we departed. It's not that the service was bad, he was a pleasant fellow and the food came out very quickly. But the thought of paying for a half eaten meal, with a shrimp tail in it, just left a bad taste in our mouths. Overall, good looking restaurant; fair priced menu and it over looks the water. And a quote from my partner "everything was great, until it wasn't." Try it for yourself, but we won't be coming back. Thank-you for taking your time to read this if you made it this far.

As usual, I started with salad rolls ($5 for two) to really get my rice noodle fix, and these were delicious, perhaps the best I've had. The pho with rare beef ($9.50 or $2 more for large) was good, but I've had better. The stock had good flavour and there was plenty of thinly sliced beef. However, the accompanying jalapeño peppers didn't give it the kick I usually look for with red Thai chilies, and the cilantro leaves, which I'd never seen offered before, were left on the plate since I prefer the soup with basil leaves. For my taste, the peppers and basil are key to my enjoyment of this fantastic soup. Friendly service. This is a lunch destination for tour buses, so expect a possible wait and a loud crowd during tourist season.

Veggie option with tofu available (we didn't try that one). Even the children ate up their sandwiches without complaints. Mmmmm for the whole family!
