The food was very good, but a bit pricey. The service was good however one associate that seemed to be a manager created an awkward environment by joking with the staff. The jokes were demeaning. I really wanted to like this place. I've had excellent meals here in the past but in the last year Ive had horrible meals the last two times I chose to dine there. On Labor Day weekend I ordered the chicken...poulet rouge...extremely dry, tough, overcooked, minimal sauce, served over what tasted like canned green peas and raw carrots...yikes. My wife and two guests had similar experiences...under cooked...raw...scallops and a chicken dish like mine. The tomato bisque was tasty however. The service was slow and not attentive and took forever to get our check...which had to be corrected. The menu was also extremely limited compared to previous years...which would be ok if items were special. I hope for improvement and return to quality meals which was the norm in previous years...but it's going to be a while before I try again. read more

We had a wonderful meal last night and the service was excellent. Our server was excellent and other servers also stepped in to make sure we had our drinks full and plates cleared. The food was fantastic; our family had clam chowder, wedge salad, shrimp and grits, NY strip and pan seared chicken - everyone loved their meal. Appalachian Kitchen is exactly what it says! A wonderful farm to table experience in the heart of the West Virginia snowbelt at Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia! Great atmosphere with great views, attentive service and amazing food! We had the trout entree and the New York strip entree as well at the trout patè appetizer and Cremé Brûlée dessert. All were delicious and well prepared. The most striking thing was the size of our entrees! We took some home & had the rest for breakfast the next day! Good but not great. The smoked truffle trout pate tasted more like cream than trout or truffle. Beat salad was decent if light on the beats. The tomahawk sirloin was a very good cut and decently and simply prepared. Mixed drinks and wine were very good. Expected more for the price. read more

Interesting that they have moved to a banquet room to accommodate business during Covid! That works but no one at Snowshoe explains where to go to get there as one searches for the new location. They drop you off the bus and you guess your best. Let me help you out. Go into the garage and elevator to the top floor # 4. Then they ask you to get there early as they have a table of " 20" coming in. Hello! Covid!!! So you make it there early before the large table and you wait for someone to come to your table. Then you see they take the drink order of the table of "20" before they even come to see if your table has ordered anything! Service not good! Food ok! Not great! Dessert was the best part. This place has zero ambiance or atmosphere. It's basically a function room more aptly utilized, I'd imagine, for weddings. Our server was Dianne and she was very pleasant. Food was ok, nothing special and wasn't worth the hefty price tag. I love garlic but the shrimp and grits was so heavily laden with it, it was over powering. We were told salads were large so we ordered the beet salad to split. It was tiny - barely five mouthfuls each. This is our first visit to snowshoe and not the best intro to the food scene. My husband and I have enjoyed dinner at Appalachia Kitchen twice. The views are beautiful and the ambience is elevated yet casual. Our most recent visit was for our anniversary celebration. There were some exceptional elements of our experience - the server was kind and offered suggestions; my husband thoroughly enjoyed the rabbit dish; the carrot cake was divine! There were a few parts of our experience that I'm hopeful will be improved upon for our next visit - there was no music playing in the dining room (felt quite stale in the space and a little weird with other diners conversations); this is kind of silly, but something I would expect to be better at a restaurant of this scale, the olives in my Hendrick's martini seemed to be snack olives, so small; our server went on a short break (which is completely fine), but returned to our table smelling like cigarette smoke, not super appetizing while enjoying a lovely meal; my short ribs were rather tough/chewy (I had the same dish the last time we dined here and they were incredible!). Our first experience was exceptional, we weren't quite as enamored for our second time. Despite a couple hiccups, we'll definitely be back, and still highly recommend. read more

This was terrible. Don't waste your money. They have 6 entrees and waited until we were ordering to inform us they were out of 1 of the 6 "oh yeah sorry we are out of that". We then ordered 3 of the filet with potatoes - all 3 were cold - and although they did eventually bring out warm ones - it was well after the meal had been eaten and they were not in the least apologetic about it. I ordered the curry poulet rouge and it was to come with an egg roll. Instead I had some arugula and sliced carrots. When I inquired about the egg roll again an unapologetic "we must have been out of the so you got vegetables instead". Vegetables? I got arugula and carrots ... not even asked about a substitute nor offered one. Additionally when we arrived for our reservation, the hostess was friendly but as she was going to seat us, the manager came over and said "do they have a reservation? If not send them away". When she explained that we did have a reservation he said "well they are early, make them wait". We should have left then. I'm sorry we didn't and I'm sorry our nice meal for my family of 6 was turned into this. My 16 year old son refused to eat and after we left he said "I wasn't letting you spend any more money in that place... I'll eat a banana and a power bar when we get back to the room" read more

The entrees were made earlier in the day/s and when we told the waitress everything was COLD she said, ahh I guess they didn't turn the warmers on. Oh awesome you are presenting yourself as a farm to table imaginative restaurant and you pre make your terrible food and can't even heat it up? $50 for THREE scallops, hahhahahhhahs omg this place is the biggest joke from the Non-service to crap way way way overpriced food. Nothing for vegetarians except Pasta Primavera which was overpriced and very bland. Olive oil and slivers of veggies for $20+ My favorite cocktail, blackberry martini no longer offered. The shrimp and grits was yummy, certainly a highlight. We got cream brûlée for dessert and it was way to thick and not very flavorful or creamy... super disappointing for $80+ meal...I really want to love it but fell short. read more

Nice locality in a rustic setting! The table placement is a little strange. We were basically looking down on another couple seated parallel to us, on the lower level!! After what seemed FOREVER, we were served mediocre food. My wife had the almond crusted trout which was cooked perfectly but served luke warm. I had the Filet Mignon. I ordered it medium rare and got it medium, close to medium/well :-( Also my meal was served luke warm. Besides that the fingerling potatoes were dried out and the asparagus were too few to write about. On the plus side the Creme Brûlée was outstanding and the water server was "Johnny on the spot". read more

Dined on the deck at Appalachian Kitchen tonight, and everything was amazing. Social distancing observed, and all staff wearing mask (thank you!). Tiffany was very attentive and pleasant during our visit. We started with the smoked trout and crab dip that was served with everything seasoned flatbread. Entrees included blackened mahi with risotto, venison meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetable and tofu ravioli with pesto and sun dried tomatoes. Kids menu item was filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The chef respected each and every ingredient in each dish. We sampled each other's plates and there were lots of "that is perfect/delicious" from everyone. Great farm to table in an unexpected location. I heard a lot about this place and I wasn't disappointed but there was room for improvement. First the vinaigrette had too much oil therefore the balsamic/maple flavor was lost.
