I hired Ed and his crew to remove a large Willow Tree and trim a large leader from a Locust Tree on my property in Danvers. Ed had appeared at my door this Winter unannounced soliciting work to address problem trees on my property. Since I had used Ed in the past and was satisfied with the results I thought I could trust him again. The price was reasonable and was to include clean up of all debris from the job site. The work was performed promptly however the debris was never removed as agreed on the work order. I have been waiting about two Months now for this mess to be cleaned up with no results. I have called Ed multiple times for follow up and keep getting sidelined. I understand equipment failures do occur but having left this mess for me after the service had been paid for is unacceptable. If this is Ed's model for doing business I would not recommend him further. read more

In the end they did an excellent job with the trees. The general experience was good but not perfect. We signed up with the company before reading reviews on bbb and yelp. We hope that you do not share our mistake, and hope that this review is fair and helpful. Tree work can be delayed by rain, broken equipment, and prior delayed jobs. Ours was multiple days. A chipper needed major repair. They rented one without charging us extra. The delay is arguably not their fault. There are problems in this company with not communicating well about schedule within their team, setting unrealistic schedule expectations initially, not telling the customer as delays happen, not responding to voicemail at all and leaving voicemail boxes full. We hope that they see this review and address the problems and that their reviews improve in future. Perhaps someone badly disabled by tree work could help them from home as their communications and scheduling person, with software to keep track of things? Our job definition was obvious, standard, and flexible. If you need something more precise, challenging, or unusual, you might want to discuss your wishes before the contract is written, and not make the initial payment until the contract matches your expectations, and describes goals that they agree are practical. Along with easier tasks. they were successful at taking down a tree with precision near a power line, a ramp, a large bush, and a smaller tree. They also had climbers cut branches off trees that could not be reached from their crane. We are very satisfied with the results and clean-up. Our lawn is enough of a jungle that some leaves and small stuff could not be removed, but a normal lawn should not have this problem. We don't mind. Ask ahead of time if you worry whether this limitation applies to your yard. We arranged ahead of time that final payment would be delayed until the job was completed including clean-up, and that inspecting the result would need to fit around the daylight availability of the inspecting person. This was only a small problem for us. Maybe discuss it in more detail ahead of time if your schedule constraints are stricter than ours, such as if inspection happens on the week-end following completion. I would not recommend arranging weeks ahead of time to take a day off work in a way that cannot be rescheduled at short notice. Rain happens. read more

I called them right before Christmas & Ed (owner, 3rd generation!) came very promptly & gave written estimate right then. Seemed reasonable, so I signed on. They came on Monday, 12/26!!! "Safety Pruned" 4 trees - oak, silver maple, swamp maple & sycamore + cut dead branches fr several pines. Used a bucket ~ Robin was masterful! Leo climbed pines & also was excellent. I had a very good experience. Ed was at my neighbor's house doing some work. He looked at two of the trees in my front yard and offered to take them down. In some of the other reviews, that is a negative, but I was thinking of having the trees taken down anyway, so I didn't mind. Everything about this experience was regrettable, but I can live with the logistical issues of setting up a delivery. I've been buying two cord of wood every year for the past 10 years, delivered in the same spot in the driveway. This year APP Tree showed up and dumped the wood in the usual spot and it was NOT two cords of wood. I voiced my displeasure and he proceeded to dump another pile of wood on top of the split cord wood but it was basically wood debris without a log in sight. I had to pay in advance so I had no leverage. My wood racks hold 1/2 cord ea (2'x4'x8') and the log portion of the delivery comes in right about 1.5 cord. Bought a cord of "seasoned" fire wood. Got 128 cubic ft. Delivery was fine but wood itself was only partially seasoned (moisture content over 20%) and consisted of pieces 6 to 28" long, many odd shapes making it difficult to stack and thus taking up nearly twice the storage space a cord usually does. In addition, delivery of wood included about a 1/4 cubic yard of wood chips that had to be cleaned up. Do yourself a favor, pay the $385 for season, split, uniform fire wood. read more

Don't buy wood! He gives you a great price - quoting how much everyone else is charging - and then shorts you on the wood - basically getting same price. We wanted to stock up for winter - paid cash up front (of course) - and who knows what you're getting until it is stacked. Said he'd come back with the rest - he has been putting us off for over a month - says he is coming and then doesn't show up. Obviously we have no recourse as we paid cash and he has not incentive to follow thru (apparently doesn't need our business anymore) as he's already been paid. We put up with the crappy longs in the past but this is now unacceptable. As in another review - stay away from App Tree for wood. This guy stood us up for estimates several times. We should have learned from that. But unfortunately, my husband contracted with Ed to remove 1 tree and trim 2 others in our yard when he finally showed up. Then he stood us up several more times, citing equipment issues to do the work he had been paid for. Finally, he showed, cut the branches off the trees and has left them scattered in our yard AND OUR NEIGHBORS YARD FOR WEEKS!!!! This is a dangerous situation for my neighbors children! We call and he has every excuse in the book or he just outright lies and says he will be here the next day.I am left to feel that we have been scammed. Run away from this so called company. I am now dealing with our lawyer to get our $ back. *Update* After 5 more no shows in a week ( he had to start repeating his fake excuses- broken chipper, diesel fuel filter broke, his crew didn't show even though he told them to, truck broke down) we filed a claim with BBB. App Tree came and moved the huge branches from our neighbors lawn onto ours. Then not again until we told him we were calling the police to replace fraud. He was there within 2 hours, parked his truck in the road, blocking our driveway. He said he would be back at 10AM... 9:00AM Ed was here with 2 workers. Ed sat in his truck (with Connecticut plates on it, he has all the angles covered!) while his crew worked like dogs for almost 3 hours. Ed said it would only take 30minutes. Even I knew that was impossible. It was freezing out. We fed the crew and made sure they had enough to drink. They were polite and cleaned every branch away. They even saved slabs of the trunk for us. Bottom line, the crew works. I hope they get paid well. Ed on the other hand does nothing but take your money and give you the runaround. So glad I decided to hire App Tree Service ! Ed came out to check out what needed to be done and gave me a very fair estimate. He started the work that afternoon and finished up the next day. We had a Giant Thuja that had to come down, Hemlock across the back fence that needed trimming up, and an Arborvitae that was damaged and had to be taken out. Scheduling and communication are problems with App Tree Service. Never shows on time for appointments, seldom on the day of the appointment. Terrible waste of our time and extremely frustrating to deal with. Never ever a phone call. Do not prepay ever, no matter the discount. I feel sorry for his employees because I imagine they have to deal with the wrath of the customers when it should all be directed to Ed. Would not use service again and would not recommend. I had Ed and App Tree remove a dead Oak tree that fell in my yard-no one else at other tree services returned my calls and Ed returned my call, came that night to give the estimate and did the work completed the next day. Forewarning any and all people who consider using this company! The workers are rude, sloppy, and I would never hire them. When this huge contraption showed up on our street, parking it in front of our home, I went out to inquire. One arrogant kid says 'we're cutting down all the trees on the street' and then another guy says 'the truck had two flat tires, and we are waiting now for the owner Eddy' to come to the rescue. This was around 7pm. The guy makes himself at home on our porch, continuing to talk until I finally had to go inside. Around 8:30pm, the guy is still outside with his huge tractor. I inquire again. The guy asks if he can sit on my porch. I said it was OK, but I was thinking afterward that I would NEVER ask someone that I didn't know if I could sit on their porch. He could sit in his tractor. Nevermind--That is a small issue. Around 9:30-10pm, I hear all this noise outside, and now I see there is another huge tractor sitting on our front lawn. I go out and tell them to move it off the yard immediately. They move it, and leave shortly thereafter. Guess what? This AM 8AM I see someone sweeping the street and it looks like there's someone pushing debris onto the edge of our front yard.Then I see the guy shoveling some dark stuff into our yard. I go outside. It is a city worker since the town is clearing the streets to repave. Then I see the mess these guys from App Tree left. Our driveway is full of torn up black tire rubbish, along with food wrappers and a dirty rag. The city worker helped me (thankfully) and shoveled it out of our driveway and we bagged it. Black tire material was all over our yard, too. I just checked this company online, as did the other yelper. I don't see how this company is still in business. This company has multiple complaints on the BBB site, and rates C-. That along with his case with Commonwealth of MA for insurance fraud, really puts them at the bottom of the barrel. read more

Do not hire this company! I must change my review to triple negative for App Tree Service. After Eddie did some tree work for me, he returned to my home several times, unbeknownst to me, and dumped huge piles of unsolicited and unwanted chips from other people's tree jobs along the side of my property instead of disposing of them in a proper disposal area. Apparently it was easier ( and cheaper for him) to do this than to take them to a landfill. He never had permission from me to do this. It has been over a month, and I have called him numerous times to come and spread out the chips or remove them. The last time I called him hung up on me. My next step will be to call the town and report that he has illegally dumped wood chips on the side of the road. It is unfortunate that I must do that, but he has lied about coming out to spead them at least 10 times. It is a mess, and neighbors are complaining about how bad it looks. He is a fast talker, gives you several quick qoutes, according to what he thinks you will pay, and then haunts the neighbors to have tree work done as well. One of my neighbors told me that they dropped a large limb on her roof taking down the guttters. They also ruined her garden beds. It is very sad that this person hs been so deceptive and irresponsible. As an early teen a lot of times my uncle would pick me up at school and I'd go to the horse track with him. Invariably on the last race he would send me to the betting window to place 2 dollars on every horse to win. He didn't care that it was an idiot wager. He just wanted to win. Even if it meant losing. I understand that line of thinking sometimes. It was the kind of wager I made hiring Apps Tree Service. I have 5 mature trees and they have been needing some service since I bought this house. I was going to get around to it one day. That's when a guy came to my door and asked me to take a look with him for an estimate. Now, I normally don't take to door solicitation. Mainly because I want to hire services on my own terms. Looking at those trees and then looking at the reasonable estimate this guy had given me I made out my deposit check and effectively placed 2 dollars on every horse to win. He had a crew ready to start that evening. They came back the next day and worked until dusk. They came back the following day and finished the job and it was done right. Three days of 2 crews busting their humps and the trees looked well groomed, and had opened up. I could see out of my front window. They trimmed out a 6th tree, an giant malign thing that was hanging over my house from a neighbor's hillside like the gaping maw of death itself. Not any more. That tree looks tight. Your welcome, neighbor! Three days of hard work and my backlogged tree maintenance was brought up to date, safely and professionally. My stuff was looking so good, 2 more neighbors signed on for some clean up. Now that I can see out of my windows, their yards are looking awesome as well. It's unbelievable: Every horse won. If Apps Tree Service shows up on your doorstep, get those guys up in your trees. If they are knocking on your door -- you *need* the work done and they do it right. On the scale of things I give a crap about, doing it right is up there. App's Tree Service under promised and over delivered, right down to trimming some hedges and making them look awesome, just because they could and for no extra charge. After completing our job, 6 neighbors hired him on the spot. You have to be pretty good to get business from neighbors peeking over the fences. He seems to be a hard working guy and I guess when you have as many clients as he does, some will be upset and some will try to get their money back. Removed two large oaks and trimmed several other large branches that were tricky and overhanging other ornamentals, requiring skill to rope them off and drop them carefully. They cut it all up and you would never know they were here. They were very friendly and easy to work with, I would definitely recommend Ed and App Tree and will call them again. read more

I responded to an ad on Craigslist for 2 year seasoned hard wood.. One quarter of the wood isn't even split. Just big chunks. Thankfully I had a log splitter and had to re split a good portion of it. And the wood is wet and is not close to being 2 years seasoned. The oak i split open was visibly wet instead. So I paid $300 for green unsplit wood. The ad doesn't say anything about app tree service so be careful when you get wood. I understand it's hard to get good wood in the winter but this was ridiculous. read more

Edward and Zack came to my aid when I needed a downed limb and assorted dead or precariously hanging branches removed immediately before the Fourth of July holiday. Try finding someone before a major holiday. The downed limb was crushing a bush and the precarious ones, hanging over a neighbor's yard, could've hurt someone or damaged their property. I was lucky to find App Tree on short emergency notice and they did exactly as requested. They were professional in execution from writing the details of the task to my specification so that there was no ambiguity as to what was to be removed and in the actual removal. I purchased a cord of seasoned hardwood, and I received a half of a cord of green wood that I can't burn this year. The employees who delivered the wood lied to my face, telling me they made sure it was more than a cord of wood and that it had been seasoned for over a year. The owner "Ed" has given me the run around and made promises to fulfill the delivery, but over a month has passed and he will not return or answer my phone calls.
