Apna bazaar is an Indian grocery store stacked with all sorts of products from fresh produce to frozen naan breads and veggies, Indian spices along with dairy products and other miscellaneous items. The quality though of those products is a whole different story at this store. Let me start with the good bits- there are a lot of products to choose from in here. You'll find even some exclusive Indian items if you look around. The sheer quantity of goods around will make you a little dizzy. The isles are packed till the roof. The staff was friendly and COVID precautions like masks are mandatory. Let's go over the bits I didn't like - although the isles are stacked with items, not everything is a quality product and a lot of items were expired. I went in the other day to buy some tea and to my surprise, an entire shelf of tea packets was expired. I don't know how any of the restocking people working here didn't notice this. The isles have little room for two people with their carts. The quality of fresh produce isn't up to the mark compared with other Indian grocery stores. Overall, the quantity of the goods here is great but if they could improve upon the quality control and some supervision, this would be a great recommendation for Indian grocery. But at this moment, this store needs improvement. read more

We had been customers of this store from 2018-2022. Karela or bitter melon was the main reason for us to visit the store, and typically only about 20% of the offered karela veggies we in consumable condition. But, given that this particular vegetable appears in other nearby stores (Wegmans and Whole Foods) only sporadically, we still used Apna Bazar. What put an end to our using of the store was an unpleasant incident in December 2022. At that time, we purchased relatively many different veggies and also a box of a tea. Apparently, the cashier assistant forgot to put the tea into the bag, as we did not find it among other purchased things at home. When I returned to the shop a day later, the cashier went outside to talk to her manager and then conveyed his response: They will count all their goods and receipts at the end of the week, and if they find the unaccounted tea box, they will give it to me. Thank you very much, but no. We now found a different Indian store and will use it in the future. read more

Overpriced rotten veggies kept on display in store as the owners want the customers to pay for it and throw it out or have serious medical problems by consuming rotten veggies. Worse- they store fresh ones in inventory behind which is only available if you beg the staff. Further, seals of items are broken leading one to question the purchase to be contaminated. The produce especially the onions have gotten worse. I night a bag of yellow onions and a bag of red. Out of the entire large bag we were able to save about 8. At the store itself more then half of the bags had rotten onions already. I called the store and asked for the manager. I was out on hold then the phone disconnected. I called back and got a disconnected tone. Their customer arrive is awful and I will be calling the Board of Health regarding the produce. read more

Most of the reviews here seems to be giving very bad impression about this Indian grocery store, which is not what I experienced. This Indian store is one of the best around Boston Area. They always have fresh vegetable options during weekends and I think only Patel brothers and Waltham India Market has similar products. In terms of other groceries like wheat, rice, snacks and frozen items they have variety more than other Indian stores. Their prices are not best, some items are priced more than other Indian markets but some items are also available at lower prices as well. One review say about Lamb - but I have never seen Lamb or meat anywhere in this market - not sure about frozen section. read more

We shopped there a couple of times. Last time we bought a try of dessert that I'm used to buy from other ethnic markets. I know that dessert brand we had it many times before. So I bought it from Apna trusting that it's the same high quality fresh food that we're used to. They even dropped the price on it! When we eat it, it wasn't fresh and it tasted horrible as if it was sitting for years under horrible storage conditions. I was extremely shocked and dissatisfied that a place like that instead of throwing away expired non-fresh food, they drop the price to get ride of it. What a shameful way of doing business. I was a bit shocked when I paid my bill here. I got only a handful of okra at a reasonable price, $2.99/lb but it weighed in at 2.21 lbs. Here's the kicker---I bought so little because it was not fresh and I buy okra elsewhere every week in a much larger quantity. My total came out to $6.61 for the okra---which is ridiculous because their weighing scale must be wrong given the small amount I bought. Either that or every other grocer in MA is wrong! Everything Indian, you will find it here!! We were introduced to Apna bazaar only very recently by a close friend of ours. We decided to give it a try and ever since shifted our indian grocery shopping to this place. The place is conveniently located on Boston providence turnpike and is big. As my pictures speak the uniqueness of this place is being well-organized, wide-variety of options and fresh produce. Right from frozen section to indian snacks, pickles to produce, fast food to indian cosmetics they have got everything and leave you with enough options to choose from. I always find Indian snacks a little expensive and they sell it loose here. You can taste them and buy as much as you want which makes it affordable. They also carry the saffola oats in different flavors which i don't find in many other stores. I also tried the samosa and mirch bhajia which they sell in store. Both were good but could have been better if they had the option to heat them up. Overall a decent store for grocery shopping!! read more

As someone who moved here from India and has zero Indian restaurants or stores closer than this, Apna Bazar is a great source of stocking up on Indian spices and groceries especially if you're only cooking for one person. My only other option is Amazon and often the prices on Amazon for smaller sizes of spices are two times or more of what they cost me here so I enjoy being able to come here every few months and stock up on all the essential spices and groceries. I would suggest checking expiry dates when picking up items especially if you're living alone as some items may have expiry dates that are closer than the date that you could finish the item by yourself. Considering how much I purchase from this place, I haven't had this happen often enough to be a big negative but it might be something that happens to be more significant to others. Other than that, everyone at the store was polite and friendly and if you're looking for a wide range and well stocked Indian grocery store in this area, this is a pretty solid choice especially considering the lack of other options. The rows are also pretty well organized and while there are no official signs, they have most items sorted by type such as most masalas are all in one aisle so finding the item you want is easy if a little time consuming because of the numerous options. They also sell cooking tools and utensils such as kadhais and tavas. Small tip: the manufacturers stickers on these cooking utensils can be pretty stubborn so when I buy one, I soak the item in warm soapy water for 30 minutes and use a scrubber to rub them off. (I keep a separate and specific scrubber to do this) read more

3.5 Stars I have never been to a store this large dedicated to Indian and South Asian food products. Apparently Apna Bazar is the largest of this type of store in New England. The store is clean, the variety is great and the prices are moderate. I was able to buy some interesting specialty foods and hot sauces. Ironically enough, despite the size of Apna Bazar, the one item I was seeking, that initially brought me to this store, they did not carry. It would be great if Apna Bazar sold hot prepared Indian food here. read more

I was looking forward to this new Indian grocery store as it claims to be a farmer's market. But I was disappointed as the produce was not as fresh as expected. The tomatoes were so soft that you could tell only by looking at them. I was also disappointed with other produce like bell peppers, okra, potatoes, garlic to name a few. The grains and frozen section were decent. The other horrible experience I had with this place is with expired food items. I bought a box of 4 sticks butter from here which turned out to be expired for over a year. I have also found items that do not have any expiry date. read more

This evening I went to buy wheat Flour. I wanted to get a 10 lb bag of my favorite brand Ashirvad. When I entered the store and went to the section where the wheat flour bags were, I noticed an employee stocking the Ashirvad flour bags into the shelf; during this process I noticed, the employee placed each bag on the floor and stood on each bag with his dirty shoes and repeatedly stepped on the bag to flatten it and then he placedd it on the shelf. He repeated this process for each bag. I was standing there watching this and was befuddled wondering should walk out? I just picked up a bag of Sujatha and paid and walked out. On reaching home I thought I should have taken a picture and reported it to the manager. I didn't do neither. Now I have decided to write this review. I am not sure if I will go back to this store again. Isn't this a health issue? Hope the management see this comment and change their practice and practice good hygiene in handling the items while stocking.Hope the customers are not getting sick because of the store's un-hygienic practice. read more

Today I went to APNA BAZAAR just like I do every week. I selected my items, paid for it, and then I realized I forgot Green chilles. Cost of green chilles was 21 cents. I did not have any cash on me. You cannot make a purchase under $5 without CASH. They did not allow me to take chilles for 21 cents, I told them I come there every week and that they acknowledged. Sure they said. Apna bazar is great place to get your Grocery .Where you can find all kinda stuff at one single roof with great ambiance and very helpful staff to find your stuff . avoid at all cost, much better options available. first of all i have been charged twice for items i never purchased or ended up with. first time i had a drink added to my receipt i never purchased. just last week i had a lip balm and potato chips added and i didn't realize until i got home. both times i didn't end up with those items in my bag as a mistake. on top of all this majority of the frozen items there are nearing expiration date or already expired. stay far away from sweets as twice i have bought some and both times were they expired and not edible. lanes are extremely small and two people with carts cannot pass at the same time. there are numerous boxes and items all over the floor and its just a hazard if you have small kids. i personally have been going there since it opened couple of years ago and preferred this over other stores in area due to clear price labeling and options. but over the years the prices have gone up and values has gone way down.
