My son loves coming here. He has learned self control and emotional regulation. He loved being blue sash leader of the week!

If you're like me, you're not motivated to exercise on your own. I understand, I have a $2000…read moreElliptical in my bedroom I use as a towel rack. I admit it, I'm inherently lazy and spoiled but I had to do something. I'm only 5' 7" and was 200 pounds at 53 years old, not good. So I started to workout with Charlie. Best decision ever! I struggle to find the words of how wonderful Charlie is as a person and personal trainer. I've been working with Charlie 3 times a week for over a year now. When we started I was 50 pounds overweight and 30+% body fat. Now I'm down 40 pounds and my body fat is hovering around 21 - 18%. Yes, I had to modify my drinking, not eating, slightly. So close to my goal! Our workouts are tough but always fun and full of laughs! I wear a heart monitor that reports to an app called iCardio, so I can track my progress. We started with burning 300 calories per workout, now we're up to 450 calories. It's amazing how quickly your body responds. One of the many things that makes Charlie a great personal trainer is he listens to you. If I sleep on my shoulder weird and it hurts, we'll do different exercises that won't stress out my shoulder. I have lower back and hamstring issues, if they are bothering me we'll do something that doesn't aggravate it. There's always an alternative exercise to get your heart pumping. Charlie has helped me change my life and I'm so grateful. If you need that extra push, you need Charlie. And if you think he's going to be too expensive, most other places are the same price for half the time. A nice way of saying they're twice as expensive. Invest in your health, Charlie is worth every penny!

Of course nothing can replace Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in my life, but I already train regularly where both advanced kickboxing and BJJ are taught. Title is not that gym. However, recently my grown kids have shown an interest in the cardio and training from a boxing class like Title, and honestly there are few places in the Kansas City area that can provide a consistent training experience with plenty of space and bags to handle a mixed class of beginners to advanced boxers. The location is also very convenient to at least half of us. Two of my adult children asked me to take them, so I passed out gear, showed them how to wrap up and stand and hit, and dragged them in for a few intro classes. It was not a disappointing experience! I'm not in the shape I was when I was younger, and I've been down with injuries and unable to train hard at my regular gyms, so the classes we took at Title kicked my butt nicely. My girls both enjoyed the experience as well, and it turned out there was no need for me to help them (they don't want to listen to me anyway) because the friendly staff was prepped with everything from teaching basic stances and foot movement to proper strikes and technique. They even could have provided loaner equipment and they showed them how to wrap their hands. Now... I don't wrap because I'm old and calloused and set in my ways - and in my day we used to punch bare fisted until we bled out our weakness. I don't like that they don't throw out combinations by number (naming the strikes throws me off), and I don't like that there are no kicks. I'm thinking, in my grumpy old man way, that I'm the wrong student to have in class. However, I'll tell you that treating the class like a 45 or 60 minute boot camp (time depends on which class), you can push yourself pretty hard. For me it takes getting past calling out the strike names instead of numbers, overcoming my old deaf ears trying to follow the instructions over the music, and then I got a great sweat on! Lots of ab work! Burpees rock! Lots of time to focus on basic technique! And I got to do something fun with my grown kids! I'm just gonna give this place 5 stars, because *yes*, I signed up for the unlimited plan so I can keep dropping in with my oldest two kids for some bonding, and a hard workout tailored to where my body is. If I was going to take away a star it would be because the Title membership does not transfer between locations. That's disappointing. One of my girls lives right next to another location, and she decided not to make it a regular thing because she couldn't go to the closer place without asking me to add a second membership.

I usually like to try something for the first time with a friend but this time I just went on my own. It wasn't intimidating at all. I felt welcomed by all. Brazil Academy - Full Brazilian Experience

There is a reason you won´t find a negative review about this place anywhere on the internet…read more Brazil Academy is a rare gym in a city full of McDojos that are more interested in your money than teaching you actual self defense skills, and the environment is extraordinarily family friendly and in fact quite family-oriented. Brazilian Jujitsu is probably their most popular offering, but I spent the last year learning Muay Thai here and although I am not currently attending classes here, the experience was life changing! You will get the opportunity to take part in actual sparring, which are tons of fun and will give you loads of confidence in your daily life and in your ability to defend yourself in real life situations. Try a week of classes for free and see for yourself...Brazil Academy and its staff and instructors are outstanding!

I have trained in BJJ for 2 years, and in Karate/Kickboxing for 39 years. I have been to a lot of…read moreSchools and Dojos in many cities across the US. The Brazilian Academy has a very in depth Gi Jiu Jitsu program that has become invaluable to me as I develop in the sport. In the KC area, there are two places that I would recommend for BJJ training. I can't pick which one I like best, so I switch between them in rotation! If you are looking for solid BJJ training, then go here. My only complaint is that they do not advertise their programs and schedules well enough to promote everything that they teach! I would have found this place sooner if they did. Why BJJ? I am glad you asked, because now I get to ramble into how it has changed my life, and how I stumbled onto the Brazilian Academy. I got into BJJ two years ago because I stopped kickboxing and gained a ton of weight. I needed something I could do in my passion for martial arts that wouldn't give me CTE. I remembered how much hard work it was to earn a green belt in Judo back in the 1980s, so I found a school where I was working at the time that taught BJJ. I found that I had been missing this in my life! I was foolish to avoid the ground game until my 50s, but I chalk that up to the brainwashing of "stand and fight like a man" that old school Karate fighters pushed at you before the rise of UFC. I lost 75 pounds in the first year, and many of the "old guy" aches and pains have gone away. My flexibility is slowing returning, and every aspect of my life from chasing my grand kids around tunnels and trampolines to running through airports to catch a flight to hiking trails at altitude in Colorado has gotten easier and better! Since I started, I have been to 10 or 11 different BJJ schools around the country. I choose BJJ schools that also have a boxing program (for fitness and fun), but shy away from contact fighting. I collect knowledge, branded Gis (uniforms), and will likely never be promoted because I move jobs and change schools just before I might earn it. I continue to travel, and will continue to find a school in the next city I visit. However, when I am at home in the KC area, I want to train as hard as possible. I need a place with Boxing and BJJ, of course, and I found one that pushed the old school tenants that I am used to. Life was beautiful, util I ended up getting a serious illness that put me down for a while. To get back up, I looked for a fundamentals class that would be a little easier on my old body and new inhaler. I tried a few other places in town, and that is when I came across the Brazilian Academy. The class schedule is awesome with two morning BJJ classes starting at 6am, and 2 evening classes every day except Friday. I started with the morning class, because it was very small, and thus easier for me to recover. Since then, I take both morning and evening classes, then drive to the other school for their evening class. I seriously don't like either one better than the other, but the Brazilian Academy is the only one with a 6am and 7am class. I think training here is going to be an essential part of my competitive game (if an old rusty fellow like me can be competitive). I'd be in complete heaven if both the schools I love decided to move in next to each other... and further south closer to my house...
