Antipasto
Lori R.

Jersey Italian by background. Family is from the Napolitano area (San Fele, small county town) Food: I had the antipasto, which was tasty. Husband had a pizza which he said was good just slightly soggy. Overall, pretty decent. Ambiance: Low key. A few too many rules and upcharges ($6 for any substitutions etc) on the menu for my taste. However, I respect any small business's decision to run their establishment the way they see best and fit for them. They are, at least, up front about it. Service: Hard to assess because it isn't traditional service style. You are given a table then handed plates and silverware. You go up front to order etc. Suggestions: I know I read somewhere that they haven't found a gluten free dough that's up to their standards ... but if they do I'd love to give it a go. Please let us know!

I had missed this place because the reviews weren't that great, but frankly I'm not sure if people know what they're reviewing. I will say the service model is a little odd; you get a table, review a menu which is online only (by QR code), and then order at a counter. You pay only after you eat, which I assume is partially because you might want dessert, and theirs looked impressive but there was no way I had room for it on this visit. The Neapolitan style of pizza is not well known around here, but it emphasizes high quality flour, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese without a lot of spices or other flavors. The pizzas are a large-ish personal size and cook quickly in a hot oven, with a hint of charred crust that is intentional and adds a distinctive flavor. I came, however, for their New Haven style, a favorite of mine that I was able to compare with what I got on a recent walk down Wooster street (where this pizza style comes from). Theirs is heavy on the provolone and oregano, but in terms of shape and appearance, it was not that different than what I got at Sally's. Getting a salad was a good decision as mine was a decent size and had a flavorful dressing that I only needed half of. I started by pulling a bottled cola from their drink freezer, and it was a distinctive citrus-y brand of soda that I'd never had before; it was a delightful flavor, albeit with an aftertaste. I would like to come back for some of the more Neapolitan options as they do have buffalo mozzarella. I would also like to point out that they do mark their menu options for vegetarian concerns and will offer vegan cheese or cheese-free pies. I have not found much in the way of high-end pizza in the CSRA, so I will likely be returning here and there will be plenty of things for me to try.

So for food this place is an easy 5 stars. It's safe to say that you won't find better (i.e., higher quality, since "better" can be somewhat subjective) pizza in the whole CSRA. They offer a wide selection of pizza and calzone options to suit any taste, including those with dietary restrictions, and everything is awesome. The pizza is cooked to perfection with cheese that's just melted (no charred toppings) and a crust that's simultaneously floppy and slightly charred. Portions are huge and one pizza could probably feed two adults without an issue, but it's more fun to get two different types to try new things! The dining room is no nonsense. Nothing too fancy because you're there to eat good pizza, not be wowed by a fancy establishment. I'm down with that! The service is where 4 stars comes in. This is complicated because, to be clear, I'm a huge fan of this place serving and maintaining authentic Neapolitan pizza. It's awesome to be able to get something other than the mellow mushroom style huge pizza pies. However, they are quite aggressive about their pizza, to the point that i find it a little off putting, even to someone (like me) who is 100% in favor of their purist approach. They've got these manifestos printed out and pasted throughout the restaurant, not only explaining what true neopolitan pizza is, but pedantically lambasting their customers about their ignorant pizza preferences. Just look at their responses to Yelp reviews for an example of this. I think there's a way to point out the value in preserving an authentic style without belittling your customer base. Even so, I'll keep coming back because i love the pizza.

Chefs choice pizza, Arugula and Prosciutto pizza, and Antipasto.

I haven't had pizza like this since I lived in Europe. Amazing pizza and I had zero problems with the service! Everyone was friendly and no nonsense, as was the menu, which I greatly appreciated! Highly recommend you read the menu before you go in so you have an understanding of this style of pizza.

We always have such a wonderful experience. Service is always friendly and it's a joy to eat here. We are 45 minutes away, so we always take a couple pizzas home. Never been disappointed, always delicious, and don't forget about dessert. The cannolis and the lemencello snowball are our fav

First time visit, was recommended by my wifes doctor. Did not disappoint! I would call it semi self serve location, but was simple, staff was friendly and food was delivered in reasonable time. Pizza was fantastic, made the way real Pizza is supposed to be, with an emphasis on tradition. Don't go here looking for Little Cesar's, if that's your thing it's cool, but Apizza does Pizza right!! Wish it was closer to home.

Bianca + 2 toppings of my own preference
Raquel T.

They had me at ricotta, such a great pizza! As the only Italian in my family that has a tomato allergy this felt like home, someone who could help create something specifically for my needs. Sometimes so hard to find in some restaurants. So I got the Bianca & added artichokes & olives ... just a few of my favorite things. Not going to lie, my families American style pizza looked worth the taste. Looking forward to my leftovers tomorrow!

Great pizza. Feels kind of Seinfeld Soup nazi-esque. Only complaint is we did take out and the pie wasn't sliced.

We had one order in mind until we spotted the lunch specials and went for that - it is a really good deal. Two slices of pizza and a small salad for 10$. What we didn't know if that the two pieces of pizza were ginormous! We could have easily done the one piece w/salad, but as it happened, we had dinner with the leftovers. The pizza is quite good, thin crust got nicely crispy and super flavorful. The pepperoni was good - not cup char good but pretty darn good. The small caesar was good - it was perfectly dressed so we kind of wondered why there was extra dressing on the side - but no big deal. We sat outside, and our server was fabulous - attentive without being overly so. It was quite a mellow lunch (pun intended!)

It is really noisy here. The restraunt is not very clean. The bathrooms were disgusting. Looking for another place to eat. We finally got a table. I don't think it was worth the wait. We ordered water and a beer. It took about 20 minutes for them to bring it out. I ordered 10 garlic parm wings. When they came out, they were room temp. The sauce tasted like ranch with a little garlic added then sprinkles of parm put on top. I will not order them again. Best part of the meal was the band that was playing in the alley. The best thing may be salad or pizza because they can both be eaten cold.

Macaluso’s Restaurant - Desserts! Cappuccinos are amazing

I will preface this by saying this has always been our favorite restaurant in Aiken. A "go to" for…read moreevery big event. Went tonight to see my daughter off to college. Our kids first time there and we were SO EXCITED! First off, they lost their liquor license. Not a big deal, just means beer or wine. Would not have even cared. Second, we looked at the menu for almost 15 minutes because our server was awful (in a restaurant with 15 tables and three servers). And had made up our minds. She arrives and begins with, "hello, would you like flat water or sparkling water?" - verbatim. We say, flat, thanks. Comes back with that in a refillable open bottle (important) and we are ready to order. Son orders a pizza (this menu is only one page long with maybe 25 items, all encompassed). She says, "we only have pizzas in the winter". (Literally half the menu is pizzas) We order mussels app, same answer.... We finally figure out what 10 items on the menu are available and order four of them. Takes forever. Understandable for quality, but during this experience it feels annoying. Finally comes. Haven't seen our server since we ordered. Order more bread and more water from the food runner. Server checks on us with STACKED EMPTY PLATES and just walks away. Server finally visits and comes with bill and tries to just take my card and put it in mobile reader. I know this is odd but we are all becoming used to it so I try to be "cool". Ask to review receipt and we have been charged for two bottle of "still water" at $8 each. Revert to original greet, which was verbatim. No suggestion of tap water or no water choice; just still or sparkling. On top of terrible service for a $hit ton of money, I am not having it. Question server and she offers no solution. Suddenly Michael, who is an amazing chef and business owner - albeit arrogant a$$hole - comes storming out of the kitchen and tells me he teaches his servers to upsell!! Love that journey for any server, but this was NOT upsell, this was a scam.... He immediately writes my name on a post it note and tells me I am no longer allowed in his restaurant. So, there's that. Food - amazing. Buyer be ware... Such a shame....
