TLDR: Docked a star due to the final invoice being higher than the original quote. The project Paul & his team helped me with was a turf installation. Paul was great to work with: He was responsive, attempted to work with my budget, and quickly got started on the project. The experience started off strong, until it was time to pay for the project. I was initially quoted over my budget, but after I shared what I could work with, he agreed to the amount so I proceeded with choosing him to do our project but was surprised when the final invoice came out $350+ higher than expected. He explained that it was due to needing an extra roll of turf because of our lawn's unique shape. This left a sour taste in my mouth as I couldn't help but wonder why that wasn't anticipated when he came out to measure the space. It felt like something that should've been factored in from the beginning. Coincidentally, his team had offered to add a gopher barrier before the install for $350--which I declined because we don't get gophers. So I was even more thrown off when that same $350 amount ended up on my invoice in a different way. To be clear: I respect and appreciate the quality of the work and how quickly everything was done. But the inaccurate quote and surprise charges took away from the overall experience. At the new total, I didn't end up saving as much compared to another company I was seriously considering. What kept this from dropping to a 3.5 star review is that Paul was still willing to match the competitor's warranty, which I do value. I just really wish the pricing had been clearer from the beginning. I ended up feeling fooled for that extra $350 added on. That's a big deal when you've budgeted and planned for a specific amount. Paul is the man. We had been looking to replace our backyard wasteland that was once real grass into artificial turf cause we couldn't keep the real grass alive. I reached out to about 8 tree trimming services to trim a very tall palm tree I had in my back yard. Apparently when you live in a bubble, Irvine, people have nothing better to do then to use our tax dollars to complain on each other's home.
