We attended this gym for six years, starting when my daughter was 4 and leaving now at age 10. We stayed because she loved gymnastics, but over time it became clear that the environment and particularly the ownership was not supportive or child-centered. Classes were often overcrowded, with kids spending a lot of time waiting for turns and showing limited skill progression. More concerning was the lack of kindness and flexibility from the owner. On one occasion, my daughter was excluded from picture day because I missed an email about a required leotard, resulting in unnecessary tears rather than a simple solution or communication. In another instance, when I missed emails about a competition and asked for guidance, the response was screenshots of emails no support or empathy. I fully acknowledge missing the emails and did not ask or demand anything special but when working with children, there should be a baseline of care, inclusion, and understanding. Unfortunately, that has been lacking. We've chosen to take our business elsewhere to a program that prioritizes kindness, growth, and the emotional well-being of kids, not just rigid rules and transactions. Remember there are other gyms and this doesn't have to be the only choice or acceptable anymore! read more

We have been coming here for several years. Our daughter loves the instructors here and the fact many of her friends go here too. As a parent, the rec classes are priced well for value. The only con is there isn't a viewing area inside. Instead they have windows outside that you can peer into or watch from their firewalled security camera app. It works but would be great to reinforce parents being there in an audience for the kids. Overall, the location is huge with many programs. The staff is always friendly. We recommend checking this place out. read more

My son just finished a week long camp at Apex. He seemed to enjoy it, but not as much as other camps he attended this summer. I never got much out of him other than they played in a foam pit, jumped in a bounce house, played duck duck goose, played ghosts in the graveyard and did a craft each day. Some of the crafts it looks like someone did for him. I am hoping at some point he worked on some actual gymnastics skills, but he never told me about them if he did. It is a very different feel here coming from Little Gym (VERY friendly staff) and the Freedom Center for gymnastics. Staff wasn't as warm as I would have liked either. Apex seems to have a good reputation. There is often a wait list for classes. I tried to sign my little guy up for a Wednesday afternoon class and on the second day registration was open to the public and it was filled so I chose another day. I am hoping I am warming up to Apex slowly and will fall in love with them once we actually start classes. Will keep you updated once fall season begins. read more

Our experience was very similar to many people who have left reviews of Apex Gymnastics (both here and on other review sites). Aside from a few smaller/annoying issues (e.g. like having to watch most of the classes through a window while standing outside) the bigger issue is that many of teachers/instructors just aren't suited for children. They don't know much (if anything at all) about children. They have no idea how to interact with them, motivate them, discipline/reward them, etc. If this were just an issue with the coaches for their competitive gymnastics team I don't think it would be as big of a problem. But in our case, our daughter was just in a recreational class (she took a class in two recreational sessions) and those instructors had no business around kids. For some of these kids it was their first time doing anything gymnastics related so they're going to be confronted with certain things that scare them/things they're not comfortable with at first. And that's fine. However, multiple times I saw kids crying because they didn't want to do something and rather than allow that kid to move on to the next task they singled them out, put them to the side, and wouldn't let the kid participate in the things they were comfortable doing unless they did whatever it was they were uncomfortable with. It's pretty absurd, specifically in a recreational class. And my daughter had 2 similar experiences. To their credit, when I called the office the first time to bring this to their attention... the office manager was very willing to listen and seemed to be glad I called to explain what happened to my daughter and what I'd seen with other kids, but ultimately, it happened again (both to my kid and others) so we just decided to be done with the place. I believe the names of the teachers I saw that seemed to be the least "equipped" for instructing/being around children were Brandon and Andrew. Unfortunately, I couldn't recommend APEX, at least not for recreational classes/learning. read more

This gym is dirty, unsafe, and traumatizing for my kids. They have gone to Apex for a couple months and have complained about quitting ever since the first practice. Theyre always complaining about boring classes and always have an attitude when they get home. The coaches don't coach and are extremely disrespectful to students. Some people see this gym as a family but my kids see it as a never ending hell. Don't register, just run. read more

Apex has been a part of our family for almost ten years. Our three girls started together - one in Pre-team, one in Excel, and one in the parent and child class. Each graduated progressively, with solid, progressive, measured training. While our Excel (the program between the competitive team track, and the recreational gymnast track) daughter decided to move to dance, then cheerleading (combining the two skills), our other two daughters have progressed through the team program over several years. The management has a no-messing-around approach to the sport, the structure, and the routine. It is what it is. It is well published. It is adhered to. It is strict (the policy adherence). The primary focus is safety (good), then team (good for the child's development), and friendly competition, where the focus is on development, not scores. In this approach, our children have consistently progressed through the levels, while never criticized for missing a placing, nor put on a pedestal for winning (well, they are on a podium for a minute if they get awards). For me, as a father, the best part of the operation is that communication is very regular and strong, generally via email. There are several weekly emails explaining upcoming schedules, events, and each is titled for the groups/levels it is meant for. The one thing I wish was more available, was a facility tour and trial for potential clients. Some friends have been interested in having their children start in a program, and an "open house" time or tour by a more senior athlete could make that introduction less scary. At any rate, the office staff does explain about classes, costs, expectations, and routines, so one can learn before trying. Improvements in invoice management and payment are regular, and there is now a nice, online login and payment method, where one may pay by credit card, or one may simply deposit a check into a payment box at the gym. Apex is a large gym, with a lot of students, the ability for children to form friendships (outside of their school groups), and we have found it to be a second home for our family. read more

APEX has been a part of our family and daughters life for going on 6 years doing competitive gymnatics. I have never been disappointed by the instruction and management of this facility. My daughter considers this her second home and has met some of her best friends here and has an outstanding relationship with her coaches. We are so thankful for what APEX has brought into her life - life skills, confidence, friendships and joy! Most recently with COVID I cannot say enough amazing things for how the gym has handled the pandemic and our membership from day 1. Their communication was stellar - keeping us in the loop every step of the way. The most important factor being safety. Their safety protocols have been stellar and we were absolutely comfortable with her coming back right away thanks to their transparency and utmost care for the kids. We love APEX! read more

Just need to provide an update since we changed gyms a year ago. It was the best decision we could have made. My daughters skills improved, she placed in every meet, she loves her coaches and team mates. It's an entirely different situation than the previous years at Apex. And they are SO flexible...Check this out... It's summer - at Apex, you come when they tell you to come or else. At the new gym, my daughter has missed the last 3 practices but is taking summer camp at her new gym (half price for full day because she's a team member), and they are letting her practice every day this week - during camp at my request - to make up for those missed practices and get in her 2 "regular" practices for this week. WOW. That is amazingly flexible. It's more than I would even have hoped for. It's not something you get at Apex. read more

Fantastic gym and I was surprised by the posts. We are a military family and have been involved in competitive gymnastics for 12 years all around the country (6 different gyms) with 3 of our children. We have been at Apex for over a year and this has been the best gym without question. The team is large and the girls are always competitive at meets. The coaches are outstanding and there is very little turnover which is important for the gymnasts. The owner runs a tight ship and is very clear about her expectations. She is not one to coddle and is no nonsense but she is very attentive and promptly answers any emails. Gymnastics is not an easy sport and it takes years for your kids to Wow you with their skills. I'm extremely happy to be a part of the Apex family and I know Apex will enable my children to reach their full potential! read more

I recommend Apex if you're looking for great gymnastics coaching in a safe environment. My daughter is in team. The culture promoted in the team is one where kids are expected to work hard, do their best, be a good teammate and enjoy the sport. After many years doing gymnastics, my daughter still gets excited to come to practice. When they practice 4-5 days a week for several hours and they still have fun, that's impressive. The girls in the team are like sisters. Apex is a well run organization. The coaches are well prepared with lesson plans, ongoing training and development. The facility is fantastic with first rate equipment. I have also always found the office staff to be very responsive, professional and friendly. But most importantly, this is a safe and caring environment. I feel 100% confident leaving my child in their care. read more

Our child attended classes for several years, enjoying the program at first, but because she did not excel, she felt left behind by the coaches. Coaches personalities could be hit and miss, but never seemed to be a good fit for our child. And just one of those nagging questions about the staff... the one who identifies themselves as a "1992 Olympic Gold Medalist". Look it up yourself, many official lists to see, but her name (maiden name) is nowhere to be found. According to some reference materials available, she did not even make the team... and not as an alternate either. So why identify yourself as a "1992 Olympic Gold Medalist" when it appears you were not even on the Team? By stating it this way, it implies she performed and received a medal. I should have asked, but never did...just one of those nagging questions that also turned me off to this place. read more

We have been at this gym for two years and my child's skills have not improved. She was struggling to get her round off and no one was telling her what she was doing wrong. When I tried to ask a coach he didn't even know who my child was, he didn't know her name. We went to the meet today and it was so poorly set up you could not see the kids. They either need to do a better set up or limit the number of people that you can bring. One family had 12 people there, so the grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins could see but my husband I could not see. (We did get the early, but the seats were saved. My daughter does her coaches and the front office staff is nice. But this was an event we waited all year for and we were not able to enjoy it. read more

A lot of Yelpers have complained about the customer service at Apex. Bizarrely, my "customer service" experience was the best part of my experience at Apex. The front office people were very helpful in setting up our registration and when we canceled our daughter's enrollment, we received a very measured and professional response from the owner. I'd enumerated my complaints in my cancelation and she addressed at least 75% of them. Unfortunately, our experience in the Parent and Child class over three months in the fall of 2014 was extremely disappointing. The class was regularly too large (larger than capped, due to make up students) and too lightly staffed. The instructor was unfriendly and whatever the opposite of personable is. She lacked both verbal and physical gentleness with young children. Her unwillingness to make any modifications for younger children and her obvious disinterest in those children resulted in our cancelation. I don't doubt that Apex has some strengths and we greatly enjoyed the substitute instructor we had one week. However, our experience in the Parent and Child class was extremely disappointing. read more

Apex is the safest gym I've ever attended, as well as one of the most nurturing & fun. Despite long hours & rigorous practices that could easily deter a young athlete, the coaching staff managed to make it an enjoyable experience. Teammates became more like sisters and coaches became pseudo parents, they teach more than how to flip; they teach dedication, commitment, work ethic, good sportsmanship, and more. These lessons extend past a child's gymnastics career and carry into their adult lives. As far as the poor "customer service", I feel that should be a secondary issue. Personally, I think the staff has a great relationship with their customers, but when critiquing a gymnastics club I'm going to focus more on my child's experience, rather than my own. I would recommend Apex to any family looking for a safe gymnastics facility for their child. read more

We have been with Apex for 5+ years. We have always been happy at Apex, but since the pandemic hit, they really have gone above and beyond. From on-line zoom classes, to parking lot workouts, to adjusting practice times and meet schedules, Apex continues to provide opportunities for the gymnasts to continue doing what they love. Apex management has the worst customer service and should consider working for the DMV. Actually I've had better customer service at the DMV and I think that should pretty much sum up my horrible experience dealing with Apex. They just try to make their money and make no attempt to inspire the kids. My daughter suddenly wanted to quit after 4 years because she developed a fear (high beam). When I shared that with the coach and asked her to help my daughter get over her fear, maybe keep her off the high beam for a class or two, i turn around after 15 mins of this conversation and see my daughter back on the beam! Weeks later, my daughter told me when she pointed out to the coach that her mom said not to get on the beam for that class, the coach's response was "Well, she is not the coach.". Really?! Damn right! I'm her mother and her life coach! I've ended up paying almost 2 months of fee without any effort from the so called 'coaches' to help my daughter get over her fear. The front desk woman tells me "maybe you can convince her to come in". Oh, did I mention my daughter was on a development team? Seriously, not worth it. Spend your money somewhere else where they care about the kids and the sport. read more

Apex does not care about the children or its customers and continues to decline in every category. The office manager is absolutely rude, completely inflexible, talks in circles and never resolves any issues. Apex is a great gym. My daughter has been a member of the team there since 2009. She loves her coaches, and has a wonderful bond with her teammates. I respect how the gym is run. The owner is very efficient, and keeps all of the parents informed of any updates or schedule changes. The ladies that work in the front office are very helpful! Most of those ladies have girls on team, and they know the ins and outs of the sport. They are knowledgable and friendly. As a parent I know that my child is in good hands with the experienced coaching staff at Apex. This gym will continue to be our top choice in gyms. read more

I write this as a parent who's daughter received invites for pre-team at several area gyms. We enrolled at Apex out of convenience in September and by December my daughter had 3 instructor changes. Not once were we told why any of the instructors left the gym. We were just left with rumors. In each incident, my daughter showed up for class and there would be a new instructor who just said that the previous instructor was no longer there and that they would be the new instructor. As parents, many of us expected at least an explanation of the continued turn around. The GymKids and GymKids Advanced classes are strictly money makers. The class was way too crowded. My daughter only received focused attention because of her high skill level. When I did interact with the front office staff, I unfortunately had to deal with the same employee who is also a parent (Ms.Goodlin) and she was completely rude and not customer service friendly. Before making a long term commitment with Apex my daughter was evaluated at two other competitive gyms where she received pre-team invites and the difference in the coaches experiences, training approaches and success in team competitions was really no comparison. Apex success is definitely based on its location and convenience. If your child is looking for a competitive gymnastics program with recorded success, this is not the place. read more

In light of the bad publicity surrounding gymnastics right now (rightfully so), I felt I needed to finally write a review of Apex. My daughter spent 14 years at Apex and it was always a safe place. We came to Apex when she was four years old thinking she would just take a couple of classes and then move on to the next thing. Little did we know how much Apex would become a part of our lives. I must say that Apex contributed to the person she is today. Apex helped to teach her determination, resilience, strength and work ethic, but most of all, how to be a good friend. She met friends that will be her friends for life. They still get together when they can even though they are "adults" now. Apex fostered these friendships by never ever pitting the girls against each other. I know that other gyms did this. Not Apex. It didn't matter whether you were a level 6 or level 10. Everyone was treated the same. At the meets, I never saw such camaraderie. The girls always cheered and supported one another. It wasn't about the scores. I used to see other gymnasts from other gyms fiending to write down scores and comparing. This was a no no at Apex. You were there to compete and support. When we lost Marty, it was just devastating. I will never forget the call we got in the middle of the night and having to break the news to my daughter. He is missed to this very day. read more

I am sure the gym is great for gymnasts who know they want to become competive in gymnastics, but for kids just learning I highly recommend choosing another gym. We first attended Apex in 2016 with two of our kids. Our 4 year and 6 year old. The 6 year olds class was not that bad but the instructor often times spent his time talking to other instructors and did not focus on the girls. The 3 year olds class you think would be fun and supportive with the girls just starting out but the teacher was horrible. She constantly yelled/screamed (at times) the girls names and berrated them. I expressed my displeasure to the front desk, but nothing was done. We decided to take our kids out and try dance instead. We were encourage to try Apex again this year with our kids a bit older and a work friend who daughter goes there recommeded we try. She said we just got a bad teacher for our 4 year old and shoudl try again. So we signed our youngest, now 6 up for the Gymkids class hoping for a better outcome. She loves gymnastics but can be timid and scared. We thought the instructor would help her. Right away I knew it was a bad idea. The new instructor barely paid attention to the girls or helped them. We kept going though in hopes it would get better. Up to know about 5 classes have gone on our kids missed one due to sickness. We went this week and after class the instructor pulled came to talk to me in the middle of the lobby very loudly in front of all the parents and kids, to tell me he did not think gymnastics was for my kid. That she is too scared and he can't have that. I mean isn't that the teachers job to help her get more comfortable and help her learn? Needless to say my 6 year old was embarrased and cried all the way home. I tried to call the next day for a manage but no one called me back, and I pulled my kid. I do not recommend this gym for any kids just starting out. We gave it two tries and our experiences with 3 different teachers where horrible. In additiona we know have to pay all of Oct even though we told them what the teacher told us, basically to drop the class when resigning. I will say we had a birthday party her and they did a good job with that. Hope this helps! read more

No gym is perfect, including apex. Many of the issues previously raised here are 100% true. But, as a parent who has had three kids go through two different competitive gymnastics programs AND high school gymnastics, there are reasons that most parents won't see or understand when their child is four years old and one of 20 kids in his/her first gym kids class. Yes, classes are large and the gym seems crowded. It is very much a "controlled chaos." Each group has at least two coaches and a specific area in which to work. The kids learn quickly where they are supposed to be, and with whom. They are never in danger from fast tumbling older gymnasts. As to complains about coaches "forcing" a scared child on to a balance beam or pushing them further in to a stretch. This is why THEY are the coach. They are trained to work with kids have fears and mental blocks. They know how far to push before backing off. There IS a method to the madness. If you can't stand to watch your child pushed to or past their comfort point, gymnastics probably isn't the sport for him/her (or you!). As for rules being "totally inflexible," it is for everyone's best interest. The same rules apply to the beginning team gymnast that apply to the highest level gymnast, and likewise with developmental kids. No one can force your child to attend every minute of every practice session. But don't complain to management or coaches when your child doesn't advance as quickly as you would like or expect when they are only at practice half the time, or are "making up" practice with groups that are working on totally different skills. And as for one gym moving kids up more quickly than another gym might, every gym has their own philosophy about this and you need to find the gym that works with yours. Some gyms have 10 year olds who practice 22 hours a week and compete at high levels. That is awesome and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in awe watching those kids and wishing mine could do those skills at that age. But, not at the expense of 22 or more hours a week in a gym. My first daughter trained at one of those "elite" gyms where kids moved up very quickly. It was extremely competitive and cut throat. Not only did every girl in our carpool cry most days on the way to or from practice, but I can count on one hand the number of girls who were early "superstars" and headed to that elite or division 1 college track who stuck with gymnastics past the age of 16. They all burned out. At apex, the kids are truly teammates and lifelong friends. No one will be doing back tucks on a balance beam at 40, but you may just still keep in touch with a former team mate! Which is more important to you? It's a personal choice. Also, the front desk staff and coaches ARE often short and brusque if you have a lot of questions for them at 5 pm on a Monday. The place is packed! Better to send an email with your questions to the gym owner and, if necessary, set up an appointment to meet the coaches and tour the place when they aren't busy giving their attention the kids! read more

This place has THE WORST customer service of almost any place I've ever encountered. It's almost like one of those restaurants where they insult you for fun, except it's not for fun. They are completely inflexible but they have waiting lists for many classes which means they will not change their ways. Some of the coaches are good and nice, but one of my daughters had a real piece of work last year. She got injured, he wouldn't listen to her, he physically pushed a foot that was IN A BRACE to stretch farther which resulted in my daughter sitting out of practice for 2 months while her foot healed in a boot. Heaven help you if you have an honest question about billing or anything else. If the owner replies, the response will be snippy and exasperating. Even though I only do auto-pay and have never been late or had a credit card problem, and I have multiple kids enrolled who arrive on-time, healthy, smiling, and ready to participate, I am still treated with apparent disdain. After talking to other parents I see I am not alone! If you have the chance, take your kids and your money elsewhere. read more

I've have to say based off all the other negative reviews I was extremely hesitant to visit Apex, but I did it anyway. We have been there for almost 4 mos now and any contact I have had with the front desk (in person and over the phone) has been excellent. Perhaps they got wind of all the bad reviews? Either way...they have been extremely friendly/courteous with any questions and requests I had. I am also very pleased with my child's coach. He is professional and very attentive to the children. He works with an assistant coach, which also pleases me (due to class size). They are both great. I think it is also important to point out that the employee turnover at this gym seems relatively low. This is not our first exposure to area gymnastic schools and I can tell you many gyms have a high turnover rate with their coaching staff. All of the instructor's bios are posted in the lobby for people to read about their past gymnastics experience, professional training and their time of employment with Apex. Many of the coaches have been there for years, which in this type of industry is very impressive. All in all....I'd say give this place a try (if you happen to be on the fence as I was) and decide for yourself. I am pleased we came despite all the negative reviews. read more
