There was one customer in the chair who appeared to be finishing up, and no one else was waiting. Based on the timing and the way the interaction unfolded, I was left with the clear impression that the service I requested simply wasn't viewed as worthwhile. I would have gladly paid $20-$30. I'm a SaaS consultant, my professional appearance is important, and I live around the corner. More importantly, I was evaluating local barbershops with the intention of establishing a weekly routine. If there was an upcoming appointment or another legitimate scheduling constraint, that could have been communicated easily. A professional response would have been to explain the limitation, offer an alternative time, or provide an opportunity to schedule. Instead, I was dismissed as soon as it became apparent that I wasn't requesting a higher-value service that day. That reflects a surprisingly shortsighted approach to customer acquisition. The immediate transaction may have been relatively small, but the long-term value of a reliable weekly customer would have been considerably greater. Successful neighborhood businesses generally understand that distinction. After reviewing the owner's responses to previous criticism--including referring to customers as "lame," "cowards," and "clowns," while repeatedly emphasizing that he doesn't need their business--I'm fully expecting an equally polished demonstration of customer-relations expertise in response to this review. Perhaps I'll be informed that, after 35 years in business, my recurring business wasn't needed either. If that is the response, it will only validate the concern. A simple five- or ten-minute service could have created a long-term customer who lives within walking distance. Instead, the business made a deliberate choice to turn that opportunity away. Based on both my experience and management's public responses to other customers, I'll direct my business elsewhere.

My rough-and-tumble dad just turned 78 and has slowed down quite a bit and needs a little help keeping himself looking sharp. His barber, Albert, and the rest of the guys including owner Brandon, were absolutely phenomenal with him. They took us as a walk-in and gave him a great haircut and full hot shave. More than anything, everyone was so friendly, chatty, and welcoming. For an old-school, highly social dude who doesn't get out much anymore, it was one of the best days out he's had in a while. I've been coming to this shop since I moved back to SD in 2022. Unfortunately it has continually been on the decline as there's been a complete turnover in staff. Strangely, the shop is not open about sharing where the former barbers are now, so I had to do my own recon and feel customers deserve to know. To be fair, some of the barbers there may still be good. One in particular was especially bad. He cut my hair twice and the second time was the final straw. My haircuts normally take 45 minutes but he rushed through my haircut in 15 minutes. I had repeatedly had to tell him to fix areas, which he met with annoyance. Still, it wasn't a good cut. My favorite barbers are no longer there, the owner is never around anymore to keep his employees accountable, so I'm done. I've gotten some hair cuts recently from other places when I needed to but the recent trend is charging $45 for an hour long hair cut with unnecessary extra services like wash and dry w/ an IPA or whatever beer included. I recently moved up to Vista from San Diego with my wife and for a year I would drive down to San Diego every 2 weeks to get a haircut from my mom. I really needed one for a short notice interview and the $45 hair cuts were just out of the question but I live near Hair House and decided to check it out. Andrew delivered a quick haircut at a very reasonable price and I'm very very happy with how it turned out. He was very nice, greeted me when I walked in and made sure my experience was great. From my first cut with him I could tell that he has a lot of pride in the job and takes a little extra time with his clients to get every hair on your head just right.
