I want to start my review off by stating I have never rented from Apartment Mart. My review is more of cautionary tale to those who do rent from them. I went into Apartment Mart to look at their property on 1514 Northbrook Dr in Normal. The lady gave me the keys after I signed in and I was allowed to go check out the apartment by myself. This is a secure building so I needed a key for the outside door and the apartment door. When I walked up to the apartment door, I thought it was strange there was a welcome mat in front. I figured maybe the last tenant had left if behind. I knocked on the door to be safe. No answer. When I open the door, it is apparent that someone lives in the apartment. I could tell by some of the things near the door that he's in the military. I felt like I was violating someone's property so I left. When I arrive back to the office, I ask the lady if it's normal for them to show off apartments that are occupied. She says that it shouldn't have been occupied. Come to find out they have a very similar looking apartment complex at 905 W Wood in West Bloomington. She thought that's the key she was giving me. She just laughed it off. I did not find it very humorous. Since I was officially logged as looking at a completely different complex, I could have easily stolen things from the other apartment and there would not be documentation that I was there. No one was around when I went in the building. I decided it was best that I take my business elsewhere. read more

Awful experience. My parents applied for an apartment and the company required proof of four times the rent in salary. Since they are retired, they showed documentation of savings that would have easily covered rent for many years, not just a one year lease, but the management still refused their application. We then asked if my sister or I could co-sign and they would not allow it. This is not common practice for landlords and makes no sense. On top of that, they refused to refund the application fee even though they had told us before applying that supplemental proof of funds would be acceptable. The process was unprofessional, inconsistent, and handled in a rude manner. I do not recommend this company to anyone. read more

This is to let anybody knows when you try to get a apartment with this place , all they really want is the application fee and look for any lame excuses to turn you down , example credit score not high enough , and search for anything to use for that purpose going back 7 years and come up with minor credit stuff and medical bills , But if you get an apartment with them and move out they will try there best not to give you back your security deposit and will lie about almost everything even saying someone got the available apartment that a lie . So if want to lose $40 dollars and no security deposit refund , Go right ahead they will love people like you and I will be reading your reviews. read more

Two things: 1. They started allowing pets but pet owners don't clean after the pets. Despite multiple complaints, property management didn't take any action for pet droppings. 2. There is a pond in the Wingover apartment complex and they don't have any action to deter the geese. They mess up all over the places. There are so many federal/state approved ways to deter the geese but they don't do it. Do you want to live here? read more

This is the worst customer service I have ever had. They let one of my roommates boyfriends live in the room with her, when no one else wanted him living there. Because of this, we went over utilities. They allowed this to happen even though the lease states two people cannot share a room over three days. The couple moved out mid lease and left us to cover their fees. I had an extra auto payment of rent come out of my account that I was told I would have refunded 30 days after moving out. I was out 700 dollars for two months, because of that money just sitting in the residential portal for 2 months, we went over our utilities for the full year and instead of making each roommate pay that, they took 240 out of my 700 that shouldn't have been there in the first place. I contact the manager two weeks ago by leaving a voicemail and leaving an email and still have heard nothing. I have called multiple times to schedule a sit-down meeting with their manager, Dalton, and I was told by their lousy front desk girls that he "doesn't do meetings" when I know that isn't true because I know multiple people who have talked to him which is how I got the idea. Every time I call the workers are rude and don't do anything to help. All they want is your money and they don't even follow their own lease rules. read more

We sent our payment for rent and they sent the money back and now we got an email about a possible eviction. They have also asked if we would want an open apartment downstairs because somebody wanted to move into ours, we obviously wanted an upstairs so why ask that? I am very unhappy with how things are around here. read more

I never ever get so much trouble and tension renting out apartment from Apartment Mart. They went through background check, they didn't let me rent out until the disputed bills of Cox, and AT&NT before I could rent two bed room apt in Ponds. At the last moment, my application for renting out two bed apartment was approved. My wife didn't like the dirty carpet in the move in day and son didn't like small size toilet seat. Common room blinds were already poor quality and broken. We made them Chemdry one more time to clean one more time and they made them pay whole material and maintenance cost for shower head and toilet bowl change. They didn't change the blind the whole year. Refrigerator is old and small in size. I was just happy to move in for community and scene around the ponds. Once my daughter graduated and time to move to Carbondale, we arranged another neighbor who was interested in two bed apartment. She was already one of the tenants. She was non smoker, physician. She wanted to take the apartment which we were living. She was suffered from the smoker neighbor and complaint so many times. So, we went to the leasing office two months before our leasing term ends with this proposal. Management. The manager was so rude and uncooperative. Neither he was willing help us out, nor he will let us settle ourselves by subleasing our apartment. He behave like a detector with us as if we committed a crime renting out the apartment in the apartment. What he told us, you are breaking the lease vacating the apartment so you need to pay whole lease rent and deposit will be sent after a month. I moved out with key because he was charging us whole July month rent. I didn't give him the key until he is ready to pay Half months of rent back. I had to a real fight to have anything done. Finally he took $200 out of my deposit with an explanation that there was tap on the window. We actually cleaned as much as possible. So I don't recommend any immigrant specially Indian and Asians rent their property. They will rip you off for everything you ask them to repair. They specially uncooperative to Asians. This is not a cheap apartment. Now I pay just half of what I paid with new carpet on all our bedrooms. No extra pay for maintenance request. Apartment Mart Management sucks! read more

On 22nd May, 2020 (Friday) someone opened the Main Door of my Apartment at Clearwater Av and came in. As soon as I noticed the person, he fled off. I informed the incident to Apartment Mart if there was any service person sent. Initially I was told that no one was sent and I reported a Breaking complaint with 911. However, later when i called the Apartment Mart Leasing Office to see if they are going to Change the Main Door Lock or install a Chain, I was informed that it was them who sent a Service Person mistakenly to my Apartment! Further was informed by Danney from Apartment Mart that security concerns will not be looked upon by them, rather it should be the responsibility of the Lessee! I believe all Lessee should be aware of this! read more

My company took a corporate apartment with them. At the end of 7 yrs worth of stay with them, they presented me with a huge bill for fixing every small thing including things which were wrong before i moved in. They never provided a move-in sheet and blamed me for not having one. Very unprofessional and unwilling to listen, just bad customer service. read more

I lived in apartment-mart apartments for 4 years. The apartment I lived in was really nice. Sometimes they will not clear the snow properly and salt the walkways. When you report some complaints/issues , sometimes it will be fixed in time , but sometimes it will not be fixed for long. Sometimes staff wont answer appropriately Everything will be quite okay until you move out. I have been charged few hundred dollars apart from the security deposit. If you are not getting a bill after you move out, then its your luck. read more

I never rented from these folks, but I walked through their buildings each day on a paper route for 2 1/2 years in central Bloomington. No security, instead of slip-proof tape or carpet for the cement hallways, they just put down paint. As in a layer of paint on the floor to make it look brighter. The paint just chipped and made everything super-slippery, which apparently they did not mind because they just kept recoating it. Doors were glass with metal handles that consistently froze shut in the winter, and ice was never cleared. Dangerous all the way around for the abundance of elderly renters. read more

We just relocated to a Glenbridge town home; it was beautifully painted and spotlessly cleaned upon our arrival. The neighbors are respectful of everyone's property. The morning after a recent storm found two of them out picking up various debris from all of our yards. Our experience with Apartment-Mart thus far has been that of a very professional and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended. read more

I've lived at Parkway Court Apartments from 2010-2014. Finally moved out. They allow smoking in the buildings, so if you smoke great and if you dont then you are out-of-luck because that smell WILL fill your apartment. My bathroom smelled like a bowling alley. It's one of the reasons I moved. Rent goes up every year but that is typical everywhere. Any pros I had were they did a good job clearing the snow in the winter. They try to keep up with the buildings roof/landscape. The staff in the office were often nice. I probably would have rated this company higher except for 2 things. 1: The maintenance staff will not care about your property. When I have had things fixed they have used my own kitchen towels and left dirt on the carpet/floors, sinks and tub. 2. Dont expect your security deposit back! I wish now that I had known that. I wouldnt have spent so much time cleaning. That place looked move in ready when I left. I get a statement back saying I had "damaged blinds" in the bedroom. Cost, $45 to replace. There was no damage. I know because I wiped them down when I left and all were intact, none were broken. This was a bogus charge. The other was for the carpet. First of all, I lived there for four years. Of course there is going to be normal wear and tear. In my move in statement I listed a spot by the air conditioner where it looked like it leaked. That was the only stain and it was there when I moved in! Cost to me to "pull damaged carpet", $145! And I bet they dont even pull it and charge the next person! Very frustrating for a person who is a good tenant. Pays each months rent on time for 4 YEARS! Puts up with noise and smoke and messy maintenance. Good luck to those out there. I've lived in my apartment for almost 8 years. I've had nothing but discrimination and difficulty in the last 2. I've been treated poorly and been charged for damages and repairs that were from wear and tear and not my fault. They didn't even replace the carpet or paint the apartment before I moved in and it had been trashed by the previous tenant. All they did was patch the doors that were punched through and paint them. They didn't even pain the apartment only just did spots and I've being blamed for everything including noise from surrounding neighbors. Never rent from them. Much better places. They really dont care. They have caused me missed wages, hours at work etc. because of not removing snow, ice and not being able to get out of garage because door broke. Then I was charged $100.00 for maintenance when they should have paid that for upkeep. Moving out soon and have a lawsuit against them. read more

Very unprofessional, rented an apartment from them. I called a day earlier before my lease starts to confirm if they have transferred the utilities as previously at the time of lease signing they had told me that they would transfer the utilities by themselves. But now as per them the policy has changed and if i don't transfer the utilities by next day I wont get the keys.I asked why they waited for my call, shouldn't they have called earlier, their reply was just that I should get it done as its now my responsibility. read more

When I saw the low star rating and read the low star review of Apartment Mart, I knew I had to write my own review. I've lived in an Apartment Mart townhouse for the past six years and am quite pleased. The staff at the office are friendly and courteous. Any time I have a maintenance issue they respond quickly-sometimes within the hour! They either have staff on hand or hire out the tasks of lawn care and snow removal. They only enter the units to check on annual maintenance items like the furnace, sumps pump, etc. and they give you ample notice. The office has an after-hours number for emergencies and the staff all seem quite competent. We're moving out soon, and they will schedule a time to walk thru our unit so that we can be aware of any issues that would result in monies being removed from our initial deposit. They manage several properties in town, some very close to good schools and parks. We looked at several apartments in the area and by far, Apartment Mart had the highest quality for the price. read more

Don't rent from them. I moved out after living in my apartment for almost 3 years. They did not paint before I moved in and when I asked about stress fractures in the ceiling and a couple walls was told they could not do anything about it. But they fixed it for the current tenant with no problem. After I moved out I was given a bill 37 days after saying I owed over $900 and that's after my security deposit was applied. By law they only had 30 days to charge me for any damages and the damages they did charge me for were things that were already in bad condition when I moved in. Like someone else on here has already stated I was not given a move in check list nor was I given a move out checklist like their website says should have been mailed to me. They broke the security deposit law by not telling me about damages within 30 days and are refusing to acknowledge that. They let someone else speak to them on my behalf even though they did not have my permission and I now have to speak to their attorney about the charges. oh, I also didn't have heat for 2 years because they put the wrong thermostat in and when I had maintenance look at it they couldn't figure it out until I called again the next year when it wasn't working and they finally told me it was the wrong one for the boiler I had. Just shady and unprofessional all around. Save yourself the trouble and don't rent from them. read more
