I've been going to this salon a few years now. Love my stylist here and enjoy the atmosphere and Main Street Sarasota location. But consider bringing your debit card or a load of cash with you. It's a pricey salon with 3% added for using your credit card. I find this hard to stomach at the same time their costs have escalated. Always a signal to me of businesses who either don't value their customers or can't manage their money - or both. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service across the board here. Hannah cut my hair and seemed confident she could handle it, but ultimately I was not satisfied. I get it, it happens. But when I left and wasn't satisfied, any sensible place would always offer to touch it up free of charge after the fact because generally places want to be good businesspeople and keep the client happy. Not Apartment 12! So they don't really have anyone manning the phones, so booking appointments can be problematic. I physically had to return to the salon the next day (a Saturday), only to be told they were busy, but Hannah herself told me if I still wasn't happy I could return Tuesday and either her or another stylist would take care of it. So three days later still very much disliking the cut, I called and Hannah answered. She said they were busy and they'd call back (like I'd believe that one). As a "courtesy" I gave them a couple hours and tried back. Hannah again answered and was starting to push back, so she put one of the owners on the phone, who ultimately just told me to take my business elsewhere. Well, that part is a given, but still a very unfortunate combination - poor haircut combined with poor service. As the owner herself said on the phone, there are plenty of other places I can go. I'd suggest anyone reading these reviews also take that advice. read more

I've been going to Laura for about 6 years now and she always makes my hair look FANTASTIC. She's colored my hair, she's cut my hair, she's given me new styles throughout the years, and she's even taken hoursssss out of her day to fix my hair with what was supposed to be a "temporary" hair dye post-Halloween disaster! She always takes the time to make sure whatever you're getting done is exactly how you wanted it to be and she truly exceeds all expectations. Everyone at the salon is so friendly and knows what they're doing. I don't use anything other than their R+Co products on my hair. The decor is absolutely gorgeous with very chic Wonderland/boho vibes. My hair was very damaged when I first went to Laura years ago and through all of her recommendations and the products she uses, my hair has never been healthier. All of it is beyond worth the expense. I have medium/thick, 2b curly hair and I've never been more satisfied or recommended a salon as much as I have Apartment 12 over the years. I made an appointment based off of the great reviews for Apt for a haircut and balayage. Hannah explained to me that because I had boxed dyed my hair with a toner a few months ago that my hair would likely not result in a light balayage like I wanted in the photo I showed her and likely would be more of a caramel color. After returning home I realized that the front pieces were thick, not blended and the overall color was fairly orange. I went to this salon a year ago and it was a terrible experience. I had an appointment and when I walked in no one even acknowledged me. I sat in the waiting area for ten minutes until finally I walked up to one of the hair stylists to tell them I had an appt. I should have turned and run but unfortunately I didn't. The young girl who did my hair didn't know what she was doing and Instead of getting the blonde color I had asked for she turned it orange and brassy. When I complained that it looked terrible she continued to say how great it looked. The owner who was a few chairs over starting talking about me (unfavorably) to her client. I really couldn't believe it. Looking back I wish I had walked out without paying because they didn't deserve a dime from me. read more

Lyndsay (my stylist) barely said a word to me the entire time, idk if she was having a bad day but then she didn't listen to me when I said only a trim all the way around. She cut almost 3 inches off my hair, I don't care if she thought I needed it. It's not what I wanted. In addition to this I asked for a partial highlight and I'm pretty sure I got charged for a full highlight in the end because she "wanted for lighten up the back of my head too". I've never paid more than $150 at other salons and was charged just short of $300 for the same services. I don't understand why she didn't consult me on the price of her changing her mind. The salon itself was cute and appeared clean but no one was wearing a mask even though when I booked my appointment it told me I had to wear one. Not the best experience overall. read more

Had my first haircut here with Joanne, I believe she is one of the owners. I didn't have to say much and she knew exactly what I wanted, platinum pixie, which came out great. The back is a little longer than I like, the back of the head below the ears is usually cut very short (looks almost shaved) but nothing that can't be shortened next time around. For a cut and color it was a little pricey, lived in San Fran and it was a little less for both, but I understand that my hair can take more time to blond due to thickness and color. All-in-all Joanne did a great job and I will see her again! read more

My appointment was with Joann, the owner. Let me start with saying I own a salon in another state and never ever have time to get my haircut and decided on a whim to do it while I had time off on vacation...(I didn't tell her this because sometimes it makes stylists nervous or they want to talk about work). I love visiting other salons while on vacation just to experience other places. I came in with about 5 different pictures of completely different haircuts ranging from a very short style to a long layered cut. I really didn't want to have to think about and wanted someone else's opinion on what would look best on me, as I do with my clients. Joann walked through each haircut with me to decide which would be best....such a relief to not have to think. She was very professional, has a great attitude and is very experienced and confident in her work. I ended up cutting about 7 inches off...and I am extremely satisfied with the results & appreciate her taking the time to talk with me and listen. She will be very successful for a very long time! I moved to Sarasota a year ago and one of the biggest quandaries I experienced was discovering what salon to take my little bed head to. When looking for a Goldwell provider (what was used at my former salon) Apartment 12 came up in my search and I decided this was the place to try. Love it. Our Hair Guru is Emily Pond and she is absolutely the best. She is creative, decisive and has great skill. I tend to give my salon folks somewhat free reign to be creative. I wear my hair short and Emily does a fantastic job of providing me with such a good cut that it doesn't go crazy even when the time comes for the next one. Emily does great color (an artist), highlights and cut - and she always manages to fit my brows in. Emily is wonderful - usually it's my partner and I that go at the same time and she shuffles us around in perfect harmony and gets us done: cut, color and highlights along with brows. She's really the best. Great work ethic, wonderful woman and an artist. What more can I say? Glad to have found Emily and the cool vibe of Apartment 12. read more

The shampoo girl was on her way out with her purse when the owner asked her to do my quick shampoo. She sighed and roller her eyes before giving me a very violent, aggressive shampoo, featuring banging my head against the sink repeatedly. This included scalding hot water (I had to ask her to make it cooler), a pretty painful scratch from her fingers across my chin and jaw (she neither acknowledged it or apologized), and no scalp or neck massage (a standard service anywhere I've ever been). Moving on to the cut, I had the owner whose name I don't remember (it started with a J?). She barely spoke to me, preferring to chat with the other stylists. This time I was scratched on the forehead with her fingers, knocked in the forehead with a comb, and whacked by the blow dryer (none of which she noticed doing because she wasn't even looking at me the majority of the time). She gave me a half-spritz of something that got a few hairs on one side of my head. When she began to blow dry, I asked for a heat protectant, and she said she already sprayed it and that "I'm good." My hair looked fried and dead by the time it was dry, and I had to ask her to put a serum in it to try and salvage it a little. The cut itself was just a trim, and it turned out fine - not amazing, not horrible. I'll just have to deep condition and avoid heat styling for a while. Oh, and my dad accompanied me as it was a stop in a day of father-daughter errands. He was completely ignored despite walking in with me and sitting in the waiting area the entire time. I've never been anywhere that didn't offer my companion a beverage or at a minimum say hello. Normally I would have complained about my service at the end, but to whom? Went to this salon after reading Yelp reviews and thinking I'd get set up with a pro in hair color. I was sadly disappointed. Went for a balyage color and a haircut. Had to have it colored twice while I was there because the first round was completely wrong, looked like I just had highlights put in. I'm giving two stars, just because the stylist Lauren worked to do it over and she didn't fry my hair (that can happen when you lighter). However there is overly lightened spots that didn't adjust to the toner and now I'm going to pay more money to have someone fix it. Plus the hair cut was not well done either. Sadly disappointed, really hoping I'd have a new hair dresser that know how to cut and color.:/ read more

Coming from New York I was looking for a good hair salon.I read reviews and made an appointment.I had my hair colored and cut by Vanessa.She is so nice and knew exactly what color would Look best.I trusted her and am very pleased with the color and the cut.I highly recommend her!I was shocked to find out when I was done that it was $180 .Sixty for the cut and $120 for the color.I find that to be extremely high.I was used to paying $120.for color and cut in New York at a very reputable salon!I really loved Vanessa and will definitely go back but at that price not too often. read more
