This neighborhood gem offers an industrialized minimalist form of decor with pops of color and art. Cozy but roomy, the bar area had mostly 2 seater tables and a few with high chairs. We recently went for a birthday brunch. Restaurant Week was still in effect but we decided to choose from the regular brunch menu. Place was low key and giving neighborhood vibes. The service was 10 STARS! Our waitress was extremely attentive and kind. We were also checked on by a second staff member who I think may have been a manager but cannot be certain. We started with cocktails and they serve chips and salsa gratis. I had the Jalapeno and Hibiscus Margarita and my friend ordered the Pepper Margarita with Strawberry and Chipotle. Mine was a bit on the sweet side without a hint of tequila. My friend's drink definitely was the better of the two. Not overly sweet and definitely a flavor of tequila was present. We also ordered a guacamole. I must say it was quite small and barely served 2 people. I suggest if more than 2 guests are part of the experience, order more than one. For my entree, I requested a market salad and 2 veggie tacos with a side of birria consume. Salad was very fresh and I am sure was made to order as opposed to premade a week prior and waiting in a fridge to be served. My tacos were average but satisfying. The consume was a bit disappointing as it was more of a water/broth based and not of a typical gravy consistency. It was not exciting. My friend's entree was the highlight of the experience. She had the brisket quesadilla. Never have I seen a quesadilla with a crispy outside such as this. A culinary masterpiece indeed. She consumed it all and not one complaint afterward. Delish. We did receive a complimentary Churro plate for the birthday celebration. They were drizzled with caramel and berries. Served warm, they were a dream for the palate. I did use the bathroom which was a single stall. It was clean enough but not well lit. The biggest downfall of my experience was the temperature of the restaurant. I understand it is summer, however, there was no A/C and the inside was extremely hot. I sweated through my entire experience. Even the bathroom felt like 100 degrees. We did not complain but our waitress noticed and brough a fan out to circulate the air. They do have ceiling fans but honestly I did not feel them. The management/owner should consider more temperature control methods during the hotter months as it was quite uncomfortable. To sum it up, I thought this experience was mostly positive and would patronize it again.

I got spice in both of mine and one with mango and another with mango and passion fruit. Would come back again just for the margs. The dessert nachos were so good and pretty and such a unique idea for a dessert I loved it. The "chips" are coated with cinnamon and sugar and it comes with ice cream and fruit and chocolate. So fun to eat it too. I got the cheesy potato bites and they were delicious as well. Very flavorful and the sauce was great. Service was okay but could've been a bit better. We asked for no chili in one drink and no bananas in the nachos but they still gave us those things.

Overall, I would not go out of my way to come here or even wait for a table. I'd only consider eating here if already in the area and you're able to walk in. Ambiance / Service: casual ambiance. Very big spot for locals around the neighborhood. Lots of families with young kids. Tried walking in around 5:30pm on a Friday and it was PACKED. Service was friendly enough, but inattentive. Host told us it would be about 10 minutes for a table in the back but we could sit at the bar in the meantime. He then forgot about us even though we checked back in about the table and proceeded to seat people who came in after us. We ended up just ordering at the bar. Servers brought us the wrong dish and forget our side of jalapeños. Food: this was the biggest miss unfortunately. Nothing was inherently "bad", just missing seasoning. -Queso Fundido: added chorizo. This was by far the best thing we got. It's very greasy so beware, but it's so good. Cheesy, salty, oozy, savory goodness. -Guacamole: this needed more seasoning all around - salt, garlic, lime... it was bland. -Al Pastor Tacos: again, lacked seasoning. Was very bland and meat was dry. Would not order again. -Chicken Tacos: these were pretty flavorful. Nothing crazy, but I would order this again. -Side of Rice & Beans: nothing crazy here. Standard, but fine.

The tacos comes in 4 per order and you can choose 2 different meat per order. I had the al pastor and shrimp taco. They were both ok flavor and taste wise but the 3 little shrimp was almost comical on the tortilla. (see picture) The birria sliders was good. We also ordered mussels, ribs and steak quesadilla from the regular menu to share. The ribs were ok and lacked flavor but it does come with a green sauce so maybe that's where you suppose to get the flavors. The quesadilla was good. The mussels were ok, they were fresh but again broth lacked flavor. The service was a bit slow on a Friday evening but I only saw 2 servers and one was also making the drinks. The place has a modern feel and looks nice with a small backyard for outdoor seats. They sat us in the back by the door and kitchen so not the best table since it's also by the trash cans. I would advise not to sit there if possible. FYI, it was not crowded with many open tables but I guess they sat us there due to lack of servers.

The second time, we started off with a Cactus salad which feels like an underrated dish. It was a heaping pile of sauteed cactus and chopped jalapenos over what most would consider a generic salad. But you know what, I enjoyed that touch for the texture . The cactus itself was packed with flavor with nice heat from the jalapenos. For my entree was the chicken fried chicken, a chicken breast cutlet smothered in gravy. This cutlet is what got me to write a review. They basically nailed it with the interior super juicy. It comes with two sides. Aromatic rice and beans and collard greens that accentuated the floral notes of the greens. This may have been a 4 star review but the price to quality ratio and friendly staff is what inspired me to bump it up. Will put this place in my regular rotation.
