Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch - Nothing less than a spectacular sunset at the ranch.

Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch

(89 reviews)

Fun rustic getaway!…read more Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch offers a beautiful, nature-centric setting within easy reach of Phoenix. From the horseback riding to the kayaking and hiking, there are activities to fill numerous days. The launch site for those are all on the property, and there's a shuttle return for the kayaking, which keeps it simple and enjoyable. We also appreciated the close proximity of local recreation areas, for taking in views of the Salt River horses, and to Saguaro Lake (the Desert Belle wine cruise is great). The lodge itself is more of a four-star moment. It's understandable that the cabins are old (built for the construction of the Stewart Dam), but some general maintenance and a little TLC both inside and out would be helpful. For instance, a shower knob fell off in my hand, the curtain rods were crooked, a broken hook was on the door, the outdoor benches and chairs were dirty, and there were weeds and trash around the cabin perimeter. On the flip side, the staff is friendly, the main lodge offers homespun charm, the Bulldog rock formations are gorgeous, and the grounds in the main courtyard are an inviting place to indulge in the lodge's "easy living" motto. Beyond that, the food deserves its own special nod -- outstanding at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with rave reviews from all. That said, it would be nice to offer individual seating at dinner instead of the "single long table" ranch-style service. It can be awkward, or at least less relaxing, to sit across from strangers at each dinner each evening and make generic small talk. Overall, a wonderful getaway under starry skies!

BACHELORETTE PARTIES BEWARE Our group of 5 girls booked this…read moretour during my bachelorette party. When we arrived, the manager named Lottie pulled out a scale and said she didn't believe our weights on the form. We are all girls in our 20s that are nowhere near the weight limit of 220lbs. She made us all say our weights out loud, threatened to weigh us infront of everyone, and said it was "for the safety of the horses". Half of us left in tears because of how hostile and unprofessional Lottie was. If you are on a bachelorette do not come here unless you want a 90lb miserable woman to humiliate you & your friends for no reason. Lottie if you're reading this, I hope being mean to young and post partum women makes you feel better about your miserable, single, and childless life. The guides & horses were wonderful but this woman needs to be fired.

With it' stunning mountains, palm trees and ritzy houses, Scottsdale is gorgeous. Bonus points for only being about 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel itself is beautiful with a ton of common areas to enjoy the sunset and scenery. It was a little chilly so the number of outdoor fire pits were very much appreciated. I was put in a room in the 17the or 19th building. I got lost a couple of times as it gets quite dark and the property is a bit of a maze. My friends were closer to the entrance. My room was nice but I felt it needed a bit of an update. Unfortunately I didn't receive my member benefits. I think this is a good resort for meeting up with a group or family, though there were plenty of couples while we were there. I didn't pay a ton for our stay which was good because I didn't really consider it a luxury property. A few things to note: the convenience store is only open till 6pm so plan accordingly. They will take you in a golf cart to your room. The pool is heated in the winter. Uber only takes a few minutes to come get you.

The property is beautiful and the room is large. The bathroom was the best part for us with the giant shower and jacuzzi tub. We enjoyed renting the bikes they have on property and biked a 4 mile loop that was very scenic through the surrounding neighborhood. There are a ton of fire pits and we enjoyed making s'mores at night. The pool is heated which is helpful for this time of year. There are also 2 hot tubs on property. Right now it's decorated for Christmas which definitely added extra to our visit.

The overall stay here was stunningly beautiful, convenient and really Grand. The only issues I had were a few room related items which I bring up only as some constructive critique. Overall, it was all 5 stars. The program screen inside the spa/gym shows on but not logged in- with no instructions nearby on how to use it. (Front desk would need to assist, and they weren't easily available) seems like a waste of a service. Secondly, I found that the sheets on the bed are all flat- (they don't use fitted sheets- and it was troublesome as they didn't stay covering the mattress the whole night. Thankfully I asked for help and housekeeping doubled up on sheets for me. Lastly, I noticed some small rocks in my room upon check in. Needed vacuuming longer. Besides that everything felt very clean and tended too!

The property is beautiful to walk around, with all the landscaping, flowers and trees; some of them are marked with what kind of plant they are. There are century plants and aloe and various cacti. The fitness center is located at the spa. It has windows which open up onto the pool, which is a more private pool than the main pool. The staff is outstanding. Savannah, who ran the front desk on my most recent visit, is absolutely amazing and really helped with any questions or small issues with my stay. The restaurant is wonderful for the hotel breakfast. I recommend having cocktails there too. You can see a beautiful sunset from the bar. I love the open design of this hotel resort because it makes you feel like you're in the countryside and you can admire the beautiful views of Camelback as you walk around the grounds and hear birds chirping. It's so relaxing. Parking is easy and you can usually find a spot right outside your casita room as the parking circles the hotel. Toiletries in the room smell so good! Some make this complaint because they can hear muffled talking next door at other hotels. Here, it may as well be no wall at all. Without hyperbole, this is the worst I've ever experienced. I could hear my neighbors talking as clear as day - as though they were in the room with me. It immediately felt like I had no privacy. That's enough on its own to never come back here again. Besides this, the room smelled heavily of cleaning products when I came in, the paint was peeling in the bathroom I stayed in and the shower head and faucet were loose. Also - I think my laptop has a bigger screen than the room TV. But it all worked fine. The room itself was clean, the staff was nice enough and they did have a pool and jacuzzi on site. If the room were more soundproof I'd happily give it a 3 or maybe even 4 out of 5 star rating as a business hotel or a place for travel where you need a clean comfy bed to sleep in (my bed was actually quite comfortable as well). But the paper thin walls are a deal breaker. That Priceline categorized this spot as a 4 star hotel next to Hilton, Hyatt, or Westin is baffling.
