I'm so pleased with the experience from Saguaro Lake Ranch. Parking at the ranch was included. Check in and getting set up in the kayak was really easy. They guide you through the whole trail. The Fox Tail Trail was calm this day. We saw tons of catfish and even saw horses at the end of the experience. For someone who's never been kayaking before, I highly recommend for anyone who wants to try it out. We spent a little over 2 hours on the water. One down side was that there were a lot of people listening to music and smoking. We were able to move through the crowds and get some quiet times. One surprising upside was the van that picked us up. The driver gave us a small tour on the way back and was very friendly and informative. He loaded the kayaks for us and gave us iced water bottles.

But I liked the tranquility that it provided.

The views were immaculate and the service was divine. I will be staying here every time I'm in town for business. Mr and Mrs Wissink stopped by for a few nights and they treated me like family; not to mention the four legged friends who were often on the grass area. I've stayed at multiple resorts in Paradise Valley and this is by far the best one.

Only down side is that there's barely any light and the deck around the pool is uneven in places. We had room service the first night. Young man that delivered was very nice. The chicken fingers and veg paste was good. The albondigas was terrible. Two meat balls With some chipotle sauce. We ate breakfast every morning and it was good. The hostess and some of the other people acted like this was their first time being busy so it was entertaining to watch them scurry around like they were lost. We ate one night at Prado and the food had no flavor. Loved the smell of the restaurant like mesquite wood burning. The waiter was very nice and friendly. I posted that review on here as well. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful when asked. Never understood what was included in the $45/night resort fee and the parking was $35/night for valet and 30 for self park. So be forewarned add the $80 a night to your room rate. Plus the distance to your room can be quite a trek. Anyways would we stay here again?? Not sure. For the money we might try one of the other resorts around the area. So can't say either way right now.

I booked a bungalow in the retreat area to have access to the 2 other temperature regulated pools. It was beautiful the retreat area is very nice, it's further away from Weft & Warp and the Turquoise pool so it quiet and relaxing. Maydeline at the Spa was very helpful and very in touch with guest needs. One step ahead everytime. Colin really saved the day with making sure we had everything we needed. Brennan was also really helpful at breakfast and bringing us water all the way to the retreat pool. There was a minor hiccup with requesting ice while we were there but they did take care of it and apologized the next day for it not being done promptly, the acknowledgement was great and it really was such a minor thing. They have lots of activities everyday that are included and they also have experiences you can pay for.

The hotel's bio says he was the main source of inspiration for the design of the Andaz Scottsdale. The property is beautiful to walk around, with all the landscaping, flowers and trees; some of them are marked with what kind of plant they are. There are century plants and aloe and various cacti. The fitness center is located at the spa. It has windows which open up onto the pool, which is a more private pool than the main pool. The staff is outstanding. Savannah, who ran the front desk on my most recent visit, is absolutely amazing and really helped with any questions or small issues with my stay. The restaurant is wonderful for the hotel breakfast. I recommend having cocktails there too. You can see a beautiful sunset from the bar. I love the open design of this hotel resort because it makes you feel like you're in the countryside and you can admire the beautiful views of Camelback as you walk around the grounds and hear birds chirping. It's so relaxing. Parking is easy and you can usually find a spot right outside your casita room as the parking circles the hotel. Toiletries in the room smell so good! Lavender with sea salt. It's really like staying in a spa! One of my favorite experiences at this hotel was taking a late afternoon outdoor class at the spa/gym on the large lawn where we did stretching/light resistance training with the the sunset behind Camelback Mountain as the backdrop. It was glorious. I definitely recommend trying one of the classes or "experiences" if you stay here. Some of them you have to pay extra for, but a few of them are included with your room rate. At first glance the hotel interiors and architecture seem extremely simple and minimal, but then you realize it's actually all a piece of mid-century modern inspired art. It's really fun to walk around and admire all the understated design details at this hotel.

Unfortunately, there were also several things that left me wondering if time is beginning to pass this Scottsdale icon by. Our room was nice, but it stayed consistently around 76 degrees until the middle of the night. Why? Because there appeared to be a single vent pumping out just enough cold air to rival a household fan. I don't need my hotel room to double as a meat locker, but in Arizona, I would at least like the option. Also, being woken up by a leaf blower each morning as the wind whipped around the crevices of the door... yeah, not enjoyable. The pool was nice enough, but surprisingly small, crowded, and the water was hot. For a Scottsdale hotel with the reputation Valley Ho carries, the entire pool experience just felt a little dated and cheaper than I expected. We also paid $400+ for our cabana, only to discover the safe didn't work. At that price point, I expect every amenity included with the cabana to function properly. Now for the absolute bright spot of our pool experience: Alex! Alex was THE MAN. This dude strutted around that pool serving patrons with a smile and a full heart. My wife, our friends, and I were genuinely excited every time we saw him coming our way because his customer service was impeccable. He was personable, attentive, funny, and made us feel like he genuinely wanted us to have a great time. Give that man his flowers. Overall, I understand why Hotel Valley Ho is such a Scottsdale institution. There's history, character, and plenty to like about the property. But between the struggling A/C, questionable soundproofing, small and overcrowded pool, hot water, and malfunctioning cabana amenities, the experience didn't quite live up to the reputation. I don't regret staying here. My wife and I still enjoyed our weekend, and we made some great memories with our friends. I just think the Valley Ho experience sounds a little better on paper than it actually delivers in practice. Would I stay again? Possibly. Would I request Alex if I'm sitting poolside? In a heartbeat.
