Man, can I tell ya'll what happened?? Okay, listen. So a couple of Sundays ago, my hubby was on his way home and saw a deli that had an advertisement claiming their cornbeef sandwich was better than A.P. Deli. So he decided to get a sandwich to split with me. He called to let me know that he was getting it so my mouth was watering in anticipation. "Better than A.P. Deli" what?!? When he finally made it home after what seemed to be 40 hours, I finally had my sandwich. Ugh!!!! Terrible. Disappointment set in. I needed an A.P. Deli corned beef immediately. I needed to cleanse my palette. I convinced my husband to get one. He set off on his mission (isn't he great). Once he returned, I unwrapped my sandwich joyfully awaiting my first bite. At a glance, I noticed the sandwich had less meat, but hey, I'm looking for quality over quantity. I bite down and realize, the quality had changed. The meat was fatty & tasted old. Let me say that I remember when you could come here and make two sandwiches from one or have one heck of a gut buster sandwich that most of the time I couldn't finish in one sitting!!! The reason I'm giving AP Deli 2 stars isn't because the corn beef on rye isn't still good but because the sandwich didn't have enough meat on it to be considered a real sandwich for one. Now, I know the economy is changing and many places have had to make cut backs but if I knew my sandwich wasn't going to be even half of what I remembered I wouldn't have wasted my time in stopping by and purchasing this mediocre version of what the sandwich use to be. Hoggies for 2 dollars on Monday !!! and they have no pork in them !!! What ?! lol yes no pork ! It's all turkey ! they have desserts as well and they have sweet potato pie and banana pudding ! The corned beef here is great! The staff, prices, and environment: not so much. Despite all of the other minuses, the corned beef is delicious, perfectly shaved, and tender, so I will likely still saunter in here from time to time, as the spirit moves me. read more

They close 15-30 minutes before closing time. They lock the doors and say they are out of meat but you can't buy fries... a pop.. cake or anything. Don't count on the time they are supposed to close . read more

The corn beef sandwiches are really good! I've been going there for years. However, the sandwich price has gone up and the size has gone down. If you want extra peppers prepare to pay extra. I prefer to go to Jewel and buy an entire jar. Lol read more

I ordered AP sauce for my fries and asked them to put the sauce on the fries. The sauce has no fries. I also ordered two additional AP sauces on the side with special instructions to put the sauces on the side. There are no sauces on the side. How'd I order three sauces two different ways and end up with no sauce. This is the second time in a row I've specified how II want my sauce and the second time they've included no sauce at all. I now understand this to be on purpose as I've been here 10 other times without specifying without issue. 8/10 they don't start cooking your order until you get there. Even though whatever app you're using says the food is ready to be picked up. As I'm typing this, I'm realizing they didn't even give me the right pop. Literally got every part of this order wrong. You low key have to TRY to do that. They don't respect you or your time. So respect yourself and spend your hard earned coins somewhere else. I know not to order from here again. read more

This place has the worst service ever. The prices have increased and the last two visits were horrible. The guy at the register was the manager and I could tell and always has an attitude and should not be the first contact a customer has. Firs time coming to this location since they moved off Jeffery. This location is a few steps away from the corner of KFC & Long John Silver. If you don't pay attention you could miss it, there's a hair salon right next to it as well. Anywho, the size it's medium and, well kept from what I saw. I tried the regular corn beef sandwich & the junior corn beef sandwich as well. Both were pretty good but for the price of them both it could be better and, bigger. The ladies in there were very polite and, moved quickly. There's a ATM machine in the restaurant which is convenient and, it only charges you $1.00 to withdraw. I haven't tried tried anything else on the menu yet however, the quantity should match the quality that they're putting out. Other than, if you want something quick I'd suggest going here! I have only been once and that was when I was pregnant years ago and go sick. But I live in the neighborhood and everytime I walk past this spot, it doesn't smell right. I mean, when you walk past certain places, the food smells good and makes you want to stop. Not this deli. The portions OMG! you can actually split this sandwich with someone but you really don't want to because you will want to savor every bite with a crunch of the pickle and chips! I've been here countless times but the last time has made me decide to never return. Not only was the service shoddy but the prices r too high and my sandwich consisted on mostly inedible tough and fatty meat. Oh...and there wasn't much meat to start with. Last but not least...My fiancée went here a few days before me but didn't tell me. When he got sick he still didn't say anything. It wasn't until today that he told me and I told him that I wouldn't be returning here because it made me sick that he came clean about his experience. I will never eat here again. I'm all for supporting minority businesses but I refuse to support them when they have made me ill. My stomach was messed up for 2 days behind a skimpy, tough, fatty junior corned beef. The one positive is that they still make a mean French fry. If they could be consistent with the sandwiches like they are with fries they would make a serious comeback. FIRE THE COOK....and get uncle whoever to make the corned beef right!!!!!! Also...swing a mop or broom...it looks sloppy back there. I'm not going to comment on that fountain soda machine because I never took a chance on it but it may need a good "once over" as well. Best corned beef in Chicago!!!! This place is on point when it comes to corned beef sandwiches. The price is reasonable and the portions are enough to make 2 extra sandwiches. The food is not the same. The meat has a lot of fat and the ladies there are really rude. I live close and I don't go there very often.

This location is supposed to open until 9pm. I got there at 8 45pm, and the doors were locked. 2 staff members stated they were closed. I said your hours state you're open until 9pm. the young lady in there stated she doesn't care and they're closed!! Horrible business ethics and I will not be back. read more

AP Deli has always been my "Go To" corned beef joint, but the quality here has gone down slightly and the sandwiches only have half the meat they used to with a 2 dollar increase in price. It's been a few years since I have been to this place, but I have to agree with the other reviews. This place makes as good a corned beef sandwich that you can find. The portion size is huge. The sandwich itself is simple. Rye bread, corned beef and mustard. Some things don't need to be too fancy to be outstanding. This place used to have a lot more resturants. If your hungry and only have $10.00 , this should hit the spot.

So this is an update to my previous review.....from a "corporate" perspective, this establishment couldn't be more unprofessional!!! Today, I finally call and someone answered only to tell me that the owner (Ken) said he could not help with the school fundraiser at this time. How in the heck does he know what he cannot do if he never even heard of the ask from the school??!!! We were not looking for large monetary donations at all but he wouldn't know that because he didn't even take the time(5 minutes) to speak about it. All good things usually come to an end. For most of its existence, AP deli enjoyed a cult like following, present company included. I stopped in to pick up a pound of corn beef. I guess when your product is elevated to rock star status, you no longer feel the need to ensure your customers feel appreciated. The place was empty when I arrived, I ordered a cheese burger with my beef. When I observed the young lady casually tossing ten fries in the deep frier, I asked if that was my order. I informed her the fries looked a little light. She replied you get a small order with the burger. I asked her how could she ensure it was a small order since she arbitrarily pick up some fries and tossed them in the basket. She refused to add more. From that point forward, the older lady working with her watched me with reckless abandonment. I don't know why, they were working behind a locked door and plexiglass. When I arrived at the house, I was very disappointed. The corned beef was very lean, but dry and lacking flavor. Usually the container is greasy from cooking process that gives the meat its unmistakable legendary flavor. I have purchased fatty meat, been given less than a pound of meat, but never given flavorless dry meat. The reason customers continue to patronize this place,regardless of the extremely exorbitant prices, is the unique flavor of the meat. High prices, less than stellar customer service, and unremarkable meat removes AP from the bucket list. No longer worth the trip. read more

I went to this location yesterday 4/16/14 and it will be my last! I usually don't patronize this place simply because they OVERPRICE... So I already knew better than to be at this terrible looking and feeling "establishment" from the start. After walking into what looks like a closed shop, an elderly woman reluctantly and dismissively takes my order. Along the lines of hurry up, what do ya want!? Now feeling rushed and disrespected, I clearly ask for a 2 Big Beef's on Rye with 2 small bags of chips, with no hot peppers PLEASE... I stressed the please because when interacting with other human beings they sometimes like to be treated with respect, also to highlight the common decency that was missing from our exchange. I had to repeat my order 3 MORE TIMES, despite her scribbling every other word of my it! But the best part of my exchange was watching the two "men" running the cutting blade casually talking as they put together the WRONG ORDER!!! What they felt I should get after paying my money was 2 Big Beef's on white bread, oh and the chips that I spent the last 5 minutes trying to order, then GOT CHARGED FOR don't even come with the sandwich, there is an extra price for that... This place is a $h!thole, period... There are so many other places that respect there customers at least as paying patrons of their business, DO NOT COME HERE!!! In a way I can actually say thank-you for this experience, because I learned exactly where NOT to go, or allow anyone I care about to go to for a dam 10 dollar sandwich! You can keep it. Peace!!
