On our first day in Lisbon, we decided to try a top-rated vegan restaurant called AO 26 Vegan Food Project. They describe their food as a fusion of traditional Portuguese cuisine with vegan ingredients. The restaurant has a simple street entrance that leads down to a courtyard. The entrance door is hidden as floor-to-ceiling glass, making it a bit tricky to find. The interior of the restaurant is modern and stylish. The host was a bit pretentious, but the waiter was very friendly and welcoming.
I started with "calamari" served with aioli. For my main course, I ordered "Shadow Of The Mount." The menu described it as a dish with Tax to Alentejo flavors. The "iscas" (oyster mushrooms) were served with awakens (millet with sea flavor) and a consomme of mushrooms, a vinaigrette of forest fruits, and straw from crispy woop root. The calamari was tasty, but the Shadow Of The Mount was a bit of a letdown. The dish had a lot of soft textures, and the mushrooms tasted slimy. The flavors were great, but the texture was a problem. read more
