    Anya's House

I've stayed at Anya's House twice now, and both stays have been incredible. Anya's House is located just below Hana on Maui. If you have not heard of Hana, just Google "road to Hana" or "heavenly Hana". Hana is a small town on the east side of Maui. To get there, you drive through a beautiful rainforest. The drive is one of the most popular attractions in all of Hawaii. Most people reach Hana and turn around. But, if you want to stay in an exotic tropical location, it can't be beat. Anya's House sits on a tropical fruit plantation on a hill side overlooking the ocean. The view is totally awesome. You look out more than 180 degrees over the tropical vegetation to the ocean. The first time I was there we could watch whales playing in the ocean. The house itself is gorgeous and really relaxing. The coolest thing about it is that it is off-the-grid, and totally solar powered. It is furnished beautifully with a decor the fits the tropical setting. I wanted to go to a place that was private, and you couldn't get more private. You could totally walk around naked if you wanted to (though I didn't, sorry to disappoint!) The kitchen has everything you need. I even used a potato masher to make a huge bowl of guacamole from an avocado the size of a grapefruit that came from Anya's farm! You could totally just stay at the house, and we spent several days just hanging out there. But there are lots of cool things to do in the area. You're just down the road from Haleakala National Park and the famous pools of Oheo. There is a beautiful nature trail that leads to the ocean, and another one through an amazing bamboo forest. You feel like an ant, the bamboo is so enormous. We also went snorkeling in Hana Bay in Hana town, and boogie boarding at Hamoa Beach. There is also a black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park, and a huge ancient Hawaiian temple that you can visit at Kahuna Gardens. I really liked some of the plate lunches from around town, especially Pranee's Thai food, but it is only available on Monday's! If you want to stay in a huge concrete resort, and swim in the pool, Anya's House may not be for you. But if you are looking for a unique experience in a tropical paradise, you will not be disappointed!

Anya's House is a gem. The house is comfortable, the grounds and views are incredible, and the well-equipped kitchen, outdoor tub and shower, and cozy bed are much appreciated. For those who want to experience a more authentic Maui, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, a great deck to relax on and nearby hiking and swimming (Oheo Gulch and Waimuku Falls are minutes away), this is the perfect choice. Anyone who is lucky enough to experience Anya's will be grateful they found it. This was my second of hopefully many visits. Mahalo Anya for providing such a serene and wonderful locale.

Loved this place! if you want to get AWAY then this is the spot. My wife and i love this place! Very private and beautiful! we have been there 2 times now and will return. All the things that make Hana what it is are here. outdoor shower, private lawn area, fruit trees, flowers, waking to birds singing, just sitting in the rain. to top it off the house is off the grid. solar panels and a few propane tanks run the place. While we were there we made banana bread from the fruit hanging by the door, papaya seed dressing from the fruit on the tree outside, passion fruit marinade from the vines climbing in the guava trees. if you need an extra space for a friend or family there is a room under the main house that is perfect. Anya and her husband have put it together and it works! 5 minutes from the sacred pools park and great hiking. 30 minutes to Hana and the store but who cares! plan ahead and enjoy. This is where you live life as it was to be!

We've been here for 4 nights so far, with 2 more to go. This is an amazing place and we feel privileged to have the opportunity to experience it. The only issue is the drive to get here; after 12 hours of travel, it sucks. But being here is worth every second. There's nothing negative about here. It's paradise.

I stayed at the Garden Room but I can't find that on yelp so ill review it here since it is also owned by Anya and jack. A great one room plus kitchenette and wonderful big bathroom. Perfect for an overnight on my Hana hwy trip:)) they left me coffee, passion fruit and papaya w bagels for my breakfast (that passion fruit rocked!!!) and the most comfortable bed ever. Even tho Anya and jack are next door (attached house) I only ran into them once for a second, I was pretty much on my own there, in a little slice of paradise:)) thanks guys!!!

The B&B part is a spacious guest house with a living room, bedroom with small kitchenette, and an interesting bathroom arrangement...the toilet and shower are in a glassed in enlcosure looking out over the jungle! The estate is spacious and has some incredible views of the ocean and cliffs south of Hana. It's not a beach resort but there are already plenty of those around Maui and this place offers something unique and special. The best part of this place is how incredibly private it is, there are no other tourists around. Arabella is a lovely and gracious hostess who is quite interesting to talk to. There are a few minor problems...lots of gnats in the bathroom, a toaster oven that only half works, a very excitable puppy (who Arabella is happy to restrain if she gets too rambunctious), and a lack of a stove/oven. Still, there is a functioning propane grill, a rice cooker, and a microwave so it's possible to make a tasty meal for yourself on the premises, just do come prepared. These are actually relatively minor problems, I highly recommend this space and will definitely come back next time I visit Maui.

What: its a huge room/house/wing devoted to a comfortable king bed with wall to wall windows on 2 sides of the wall. Remote and peaceful and wander the grounds swing on the swing, take a dip in the outdoor tub. You can stay in bed and watch the sunrise and or set. When: We went in August and it rained every day (we just happened to be there in a big storm) but you can sit outside and eat your meal and not get a drop on you. How: To make the most of your time at the Hana Bed & breakfast bring dinner(s). Once you get to there its a long 10 mile drive back to the town - seriously it will take you 30-45 min. Why Go: Literally if you get up early you will be the first on the trail at 'Ohe'o Gulch aka "Seven Sacred Pools" or to the Bamboo Forest which is on the way to the 400-foot Waimoku Falls! Plus, again the room is a honeymoon-like retreat! We went on from here to the west side of the island and stayed at a fancy resort. But this place to stay is our best memory of Maui!

This was, by far, our favorite. Located away from it all on the South Shore of Maui this Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay after driving the Road to Hana. It is just a few miles from the Seven Sacred Pools and Haleakala National Park. The room is very clean and features a gorgeous bathroom with a giant shower. There are plenty of extra blankets, towels, books, guides, beach equipment, and bottles of water. There is a deck off of the room with chairs and a small kitchen. It was lovely being able to cook and eat under so many bright stars. Sam and her daughter Mercury are both very kind, hospitable, and offer excellent advice on things to do and routes to take driving. Mercury sells jewelry, so be sure to bring some cash with you. I purchased a gorgeous necklace for my mother in law from her. All in all this was definitely our favorite place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Hawaii. We look forward to returning one day.

I did not mind having no TV as this is a great place to unplug and unwind and the oceanview from our lanai is nature's entertainment. The beach that you can walk to isn't much of a sandy beach but is swimmable although can be rough at times. Aware of what a mosquito magnet I am, I did not want an outdoor shower or hot tub so opted for the Iwa Suite which had a pretty impressive shower. The room was comfortable but as others have mentioned, is dated and you can see wear and tear. Since you are in a tropical environment, you will probably see small ants and even a gecko in your room which we kindly escorted out to the lanai. Thankfully, did not encounter any spiders in the room although they are around property. The fridge, microwave, and plates came in handy to enjoy our included breakfast and fruits we picked up from the fruit stands close by as well as takeout on our lanai. Quiet although you will hear your neighbors, safe enough that you don't need to lock your doors and a wonderful place to unwind but be aware that is it rustic.

Our room in particular had an outdoor bath tub and shower, which really added to the ambiance of the stay. Staring out onto the bay and black sand beach in the tub will be a memory to last a lifetime. The room was no frills in the best of ways. There was no TV or luxury amenities, but it was impeccably clean, had an amazing mattress, a small kitchenette to reheat leftovers from the food trucks down the street, and ocean views complete with beach access. We have zero regrets spending a couple nights in Hana because we really enjoyed the off the beaten path vibes of the area. Lots of people just come out for the day, but I would have felt so rushed. Spending a couple nights was the perfect way to experience the area because it allowed us to enjoy the slower pace. Our host, John, was super kind and knowledgeable about how to spend our time with great suggestions. One of which was to get Huli Huli chicken on the beach, which was super delicious with great waterfront views. Another that the botanical gardens were worth the side trip and we totally agree. We also learned he has a deep connection to the community because of the magazine article included in the information book placed in our room. What we loved about Hana was the unpolished and unapologetic authentic vibes. Both nights we fell asleep with the patio window open welcoming cool ocean breezes and rhythmic waves sounds while we slept. Now we're sitting on the beach in Kapalua with the Disneyland-ish resort persona wishing we were back in Hana. We hope to be back sometime soon John. In the meantime, go huskies.

And did I mention, the great breakfast food and other snacks in the provided basket as well as fresh fruit, cereal, milk and other items inside the refrigerator and freezer? Definitely saved me time and money from having to drive to the nearest bakery or market! Yes, this is a real Bed & Breakfast and definitely worth every dollar! There are three other suites available for booking and there is usually no minimum stay required except during certain times of the year like the holiday season or special local events, for instance. Also, guests are offered a 10% discount if they pay in check/cash versus charging to their credit/debit card, and I opted to provide Eva with the check. You will also find two common areas, and one of them is right outside the Papaya Room on the ground level where there are other tables, chairs, and a BBQ. The other common area is upstairs on the lanai, where there are more tables and chairs, and ultimately a lovely view of Kihei and the West Maui Mountains!
