Lake perch dinner w Mac n' cheese, hush puppies, applesauce
    Amanda B.

So glad we noticed this place on our way out to Copper Peak (it's about 20-30 mins from the AmerInn hotel in Ontonagon); stopped here after a day at Copper Peak and hiking near Presque Isles River Falls and we were famished. They don't disappoint when it comes to serving size and price! Hubs had fish dinner which included lake perch, Mac n' cheese, applesauce and hush puppies (different options for each of the two starches and the applesauce, just can't remember what). He really enjoyed his dinner and was stuffed. I had a 9" pizza w pepperoni, onion, mushroom, and ham; enjoyed the thin crust, especially the crunchy edges. I too was stuffed when we left (and I can eat like a truck driver!) Would definitely go back--great little Mom & Pop w local fare!

Stopped by after a visit to Porcupine Mountains, was recommended to come here by one of the rangers! Family got: chicken sandwich, veggie melt, and taco salad. Everyone was very satisfied with their meals: reasonably priced, well seasoned, and flavorful! We also stopped by the ice cream portion of the restaurant. We tried: blue moon, Superman, and caramel apple crisp. The ice cream came in HUGE portions and was very cheap! Nice and creamy with plenty of flavors. It was interesting to try the blue moon and Superman! Definitely worth a stop.

Sorry couldn't wait to eat them! ...chef jorge Palm Springs approved!‍

Best biscuits and gravy! Linda our server is AMAZING! Thank you so much! Great time every year we visit!

I pulled into this lot to look at the phone. I thought it was a pub or a gas station. Then, I looked around and (sing it) "I saw the sign."

Good, small town eats when you can't go to Canada to see autumn color - part 1 of 2 Obviously, in the U.S., one can view autumn colors in New England but other possibilities include the Smokies and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where it is surrounded by the Great Lakes. I've been looking at the jagged contours of the area around Lake Superior and the photos with fascination since I was a kid, wondering what the heck is up that far north and what the vibe would be? In transiting from one point of interest to the next, the distances are large and civilization is sparse. I was sitting there, pulled over from the road, in B.F.E., U.P., MI wondering where, at 7 p.m. and having snacked the entire day instead of eating, I could get some reasonably priced yet substantial grub. The phone wasn't picking up much. I looked up from the phone, over the dashboard, and felt like an idiot. A good option was right there staring at me the entire time: Antonio's Italian-American Restaurant. I saw a fair number of cars in its lot. It felt safe, meaning that it couldn't be bad ... and that it could be good. I went into Antonio's, was heartily greeted, was seated right away, and was given a menu. They seemed to be selling a lot of pizza. I asked if I could get pasta and they said that it was doable, so I ordered a plate of pasta. With it came a very substantial salad. And I also ordered coffee to wash it all down. When the pasta arrived, it made for a "wow" (but not "hey, wow, man"). The platter was large and I was very hungry. Being in a small town, I figured that Antonio's, doing Italian-American food, would be "Eye-talian." It was .. but so what? The pasta was definitely good and, after finishing a more generous salad, the pasta also disappeared fairly quickly. The meat sauce, which I prefer, was rich. It also had a little bit of kick, which I'm not crazy about, but it wasn't that much. Two ladies were tending to the customers that night. Both greeted me and, while one was my official server, they both seemed to share the workload and were keeping tabs on me. As I chipped away at the meal, I realized that were a lot of other things I could have ordered and that they would have also been good. The menu is extensive. On the American side of things, Antonio's also seems to be adept of putting together nice breakfast platters. I found the service to be very attentive everywhere I went in the U.P. Could it be the fusion of the Midwest, the earthier crustiness of Michigan(ders), and the Eastern Time Zone? I think so. Inside, the patronage appeared to be an even mix of locals and tourists. The tourist types were also being served hefty platters and were quiet and busy working on their meals. It's difficult to pull up stuff on the phone in these parts. However, since there are few key roads in this area near the Porcupine Mountains, you might very well have to pass through or near this area and Antonio's is probably one of the better places you can stop because the food is good, the employees are friendly, and it's filling and fairly priced. One way to assign its rating is with the word count of 4: "Go away, food snobs." Four stars.

Great breakfast, great service, great prices!! Really great place to have a meal and a warm welcome if you are nearby.

    Italian Sub

Really good Italian sub!! Extra pickles is the way to go with it, the sun is HUGE but super good.

Look for the big sign on the highway.

A busy little diner in what seems to be a quiet township in the U.P., Antonio's is a welcome spot after a morning of hiking and exploring part of the state forest. One waitress seemed to handle the brisk business and still had time to help tourists find spots and make suggestions. Strictly American menu, despite the Italian name here is where you find the hearty breakfasts and thick gravy I crave when I'm on the road. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was one of the best I've had anywhere. It's not big city trendy or pretentious just Yooper style for those who have been driving long haul trucks, logging nearby or touring and camping.

Canned food and frozen dough pizzas. We were not impressed while we were camping. Nothing to write home about.

UP North cafe has become my go to place for breakfast. If you have not had UP North Cafe's breakfast sausage links, you're missing out. I travel all over the world and haven't had better. The locals are extremely friendly, I envited myself into a group of locals who meet there to share coffee and chat. They welcomed me just like they knew me my whole life. The owner of the restaurant remembers my name and acknowledges when I come in. Again, I'm only in town a few weeks a year. Excellent Friday fish fry as well. Best in town I'd say. If you haven't been there or it's been a few years, the place has had some remodeling and is nice and welcoming. I'd give it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Try the breakfast sausage links, you'll be glad you did.

Up North Cafe was exactly what we were looking for, for breakfast! I had an omelette with sourdough. The sourdough toast was really awesome. My boyfriend had the corn beef hash with sourdough and loved the toast as well. The staff were very friendly. A clean place with a big menu. They serve breakfast all day too which is helpful! Overall a great place for breakfast with reasonable prices. They serve lunch and dinner too but we only had their breakfast. A nice place to dine with an up north vibe!
