The Riverside Grill and Gazebo is finally under new management, with an experienced chef and…read moremanager who understands how kitchens and restaurants are run! I was there on his first night on a June evening, and the service was excellent. Timely, waiter kept checking in, etc. Fast forward to July 24th....the service wasn't bad, but noticeably slower. And very unfortunately, the new manager has kept the ridiculous $24 "pre charge". What is this, you might ask? Well, people are expected to pay $24 when they arrive, and whatever they don't spend is allegedly returned to their account (?!). If you're confused, you're not the only one. I saw many people walk away from what could have been a lovely evening for them, and a profitable evening for the patio. Also, please note that this "pre charge" or whatever it is is NOT a cover charge to see the bands that play there. The bands do not see any of that money. This is is a charge by the patio for the privilege of eating/drinking there. I encourage anyone else who may feel the same way about this charge to let the manager know. He is a nice and very straightforward person.

The food should be made of real ingredients, not reheated frozen dreck from a pre-prepared container like you get from big box chain restaurants. I ordered coffee. It was good. Good enough for second cup. I ordered the hot hamburger with mash. Real meat. Real potatoes. Lots of gravy. Forgot to ask for onions! Everything put smile on my face, and filled my belly. So, all boxes ticked: Comfort food at a reasonable price? Check. Decent coffee? Check. Real food? Check. Bonus points for quick and friendly service. I think we're all happy that we can dine-in again.

We ordered three dishes - Pear and beet salad, Chicken parmigiana and Smoked salmon egg Benedict. They were all priced below $15. The portion of each dish was generous. The salad came with perfectly cooked pear and beet. It was nicely seasoned with balsamic vinegar dressing and goat cheese. Chicken parmigiana was phenomenal - with perfect amount of cheese and tomato sauce. Smoked salmon benefit was ok - a bit saggy with Hollande sauce and side potatoes were overly cooked. Staff were very friendly as well. The interior was simple but clean. We will definitely go back to this restaurant when we are in the neighborhood!
