You enter as a customer and leave as a friend. The wine selection is very good and we enjoyed a Sancerre, perfect for a French establishment. The smoked salmon stuffed sea bass enclosed in a pastry was simultaneously unique, delicious and unforgettable. Once you step inside, you can be in any Parisian bistro. It is intimate which adds to the appeal. The servers were very friendly, efficient and pleasant. This is our place for special occasions. read more

Had a fabulous group dinner for 7 which could have been a challenge at another dining establishment. We had a very large, roomy table in a great location in the dining room which is a smaller, more intimate venue. We did not feel at all crowded. The service, atmosphere, and food could not have been better. Loved all the mussel choices which were excellent. The owner stopped by several times to make sure we were well taken care of and made all of us feel welcome and valued. The menu was varied and it is definitely a place I plan to return to. read more

Simply fabulous! Olivier and team provide impeccable service and Olivier makes it so much fun! A cozy little bistro hidden behind dark shades in a strip mall. Only about 10 tables so reservations are highly recommended. It feels like a cafe in southern France. The food is great- from the escargot "special" that was the best ever, prepared using a unique recipe by Chef (and boss) Angela, wife of Olivier. Fresh warm breads, salted carved butter, and a lovely amuse bouche bisque kicked off a wonderful dinner! We both ordered mussels- one curry and one blue cheese and almost ate the pot! Terrific! My son's and our favorite restaurant in Sarasota! Olivier knows our order down to a T!!! We love the escargot - big, juicy with the right amount of seasoning - you also get bread to soak up the yumminess of the garlicky butter goodness. After I finish the escargot, this becomes a second meal for my son with bread! We also love the steak tartare, plus the mussels done so many different ways. This is not a French restaurant - it's a Belgian one so the moules frites is dynamite! I occasionally deviate from the normal dishes and have ordered the filet (super tender and well-flavored including the veggies) and scallops. We also love their frites!!! I took my husband here for his birthday because a colleague recommended it (her family goes here for all sorts of special occasions), and the restaurant did NOT disappoint! Olivier, the head of house, provides incredible service and is great at pairing wines with whatever you choose to eat (his food recommendations are on point, too!). The restaurant is known for its mussels (10 different kinds!), so if you like that, this is the place to go. The food is delicious, and the space has a romantic atmosphere. My wife and I went for her birthday. It was our first visit to Antoine's. We had an excellent experience. Ambience, service, wine selection and food were all wonderful. We went on a Wednesday and it was unlimited mussels night with a choice of 5 different preparations to chose from. My wife had the halibut special and I had the mussels. Being a food snob from New York, there are very few restaurants in Sarasota that are worthy of me giving a 5 star review. Antoine's, however, is one of the few. It's the best of the best. A true gastronomical experience! The food is amazing. Very romantic setting. Fantastic wait staff. My wife and I shared a pot of garlic cream mussels as an appetizer. . They were perfectly prepared and so tender. The sauce wasn't heavy, yet creamy with the right amount of garlic. Very fragrant. We both had the Halibut special served with a mango salsa, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. OMG, it was out of this world. We were stuffed so we skipped dessert. Dinner for 2 with 2 glasses of wine was about $200 plus tip. Well worth the price given the overall experience. We love this place! read more

Wow! What a great experience. First the goat cheese salad was to die for. Then the mussels ohhhh the mussels! We had Angela's favorite and the flavor was just delicious. Then we moved on to the filet wrapped with puff pastry and stuffed with blue cheese and it was done to perfection. When returning this year, we brought our daughters along, and it was a must visit destination for us. We eat out a lot, and our experience at this restaurant stands out among the many hundreds of restaurants we visit. So often, here in America, the restaurant experience has become canned, you know the scene: music turned up so loud that you can't hear the people that you came to spend time with. A menu overflowing with so many options that not many of them can actually be exceptional, and servers who are just filling in between jobs. This is where Antoine's is a standout - not only is the food phenomenal, but the overall dining experience is what dining experiences were meant to be: a warm, friendly atmosphere, the sound of friendly chatter, a host who cares about his patrons and amazing food. So different from the typical run-them-through, serve mediocre food and move onto the next patron business model that has become so accepted by most Americans. Went on a date night with my husband here recently, and I sure picked the right place! We felt more than welcomed by the owner, Ollie. His wife, Angela is the chef and turns out she makes everything from scratch herself! We got started with a menu of delightful dishes to explore! A little soup starter was delicious and hot and yummy, warm out of the oven roll! With the pretty flower shaped butter, that I actually dug into myself! Of course French and escargot to me go together like my husband and I, just perfect! The food was all a delight to our pallet. As well as the fresh coffee my husband had. I've added some pictures . From entering to exit world class. First time here and it won't be the last. Mushroom, Goat Cheese Salad, Burrata, and Steak Tartare as appetizer were all prepared beautifully and tasted amazing. My wife and her friend had the Chilean Seabass special and everything on that plate was just perfect. My friend had the Filet Mignon and he said it was just mouthwatering. I had the Curry Mussels. The broth, the vegetables and the mussels were just to die for. We finished with Crème Brûlée and Profiteroles and that was one happy ending. This was our first visit and our only regret is that we didn't go to Antoine's sooner. The food was truly amazing, beginning with the appetizer specials of escargot (which was over the top) and the fresh and delicious Caesar salad. My husband had the duck entree, which was perfectly cooked and was finished with a heavenly mushroom sauce. I had the halibut special and it was also well prepared and wonderful. We finished with a trio dessert, providing three unique and fabulous offerings. And, of course you can't have dessert without espresso, which was great. I haven't yet mentioned the bold yet very smooth French wine that we selected, and it was the perfect pairing with our food. It's been four years and I stand by my original review. Antoine's is INCREDIBLE. An absolute must if you're in Sarasota. Short of licking the plate, we crushed our meals. We ordered the mussels for an appetizer, basically soaked all the bread we could get our hands on in the delicious creamy garlic sauce. I ordered the scallops again and regret nothing. Still amazing. We went to Antoine's again last night to celebrate my birthday. By far my favorite restaurant in Sarasota. The first class service begins as soon as you walk in and are greeted by the owner and host, Olivier, and continues right through the moment you finish your evening there. We were first served an amuse-bouche of mixed vegetable soup which was absolutely delicious. My wife started with the Goat Cheese Salad, with the Goat Cheese wrapped inside warm, flaky pastry, which was amazing. I started, as always, with the Escargot, which is among the best I have ever had. For Entree's, my wife had the Filet Mignon, also wrapped in puff pastry with blue cheese filling, which was INCREDIBLE. I, as always, had the Steak Tartare, which is so fresh and delicious, that I can't bring myself to order anything else. (I'm a creature of habit) To top it off we had the Dessert Trio, and chose the Profiteroles, Chocolate Mousse, and Crème Brûlée. It would be easier to choose my favorite child than my favorite of the desserts. All were equally incredible. Add several glasses of Tawny Port to the mix, and it all came together to create the most perfect evening. I could not recommend Antoine's more highly than that. read more

We have eaten at this restaurant every year when we have traveled to Sarasota and have previously posted rave reviews. Unless you are a local frequent diner, you will be greeted with the exact mechanically rote comments about the wife, the chef, the boss. After several visits, the patter sounds tedious and insincere. The menu claims to offer Steak Tartare "prepared to order" which in any other restaurant means "specially made according to the customer's specifications." In France, the customer has a variety of options for ordering and dressing tartare de boeuf including aller-retour or lightly seared. When I attempted to order this, I was told that the steak tartare is only made one way and that my order would require his wife to "use a second pan." When I asked why the menu stated "prepared to order,"the response was "because my wife does not prepare it until you order it. Perhaps my English is not so good." Since the restaurant has been open for 13 years, this hardly seems to justify the inaccuracy of the menu. To make matters worse, we went on Monday which is all you can eat mussel night. We sat waiting for 45 minutes before an amuse bouche arrived at our table as dozens of steam pots whizzed past. We ordered grilled octopus, seared grouper, and sautéed duck breast. (In retrospect, I should have suggested that my steak tartare be prepared in the pan in which the duck would be prepared). Although ordered medium rare, the duck was overcooked. The potatoes dauphinois were creamy but skimpy on garlic and Gruyère cheese. The baguette was gummy and inauthentic. read more

Angela, the Chef and wife of the Host (Olivier) has never, that I've known, prepared a bad meal. Her seafood is perfect. As in perfectly prepared, sized and presented. Many know this restaurant for their Mussels. To limit your experience to just Mussels is to deprive yourself of Angela's talents. Nice perks include soup before your salads or appetizers and fresh warm Bread and butter. Everything is beautifully presented and silverware is exchanged between courses. Being a French restaurant, the sauces make this place special. The all you can eat Monday mussels( 5 different ways) night remains. We could only consume one bucket tonight but it remains excellent. The French fries that accompany the mussels are worth the price alone; No room for dessert but during November and December, chocolate truffles are given which are incredibly rich and decadent. We were greeted immediately by the owner/host Olivier and were seated within a moment. This tiny gem is in a small strip center across the street from Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, FL. but once inside, you're in France! The food was absolutely spectacular, Oliver (one of the owners and the man with a wicked stash) was definite pleasure, very welcoming and made sure everyone felt welcome and it was their pleasure to server us. Very intimate as there is limited seating reservations a a definite must. Oliver made recommendations that his wife Angela (the chef) made for specials that night. One of which my wife elected... Halibut that night, cooked perfectly with I believe a a cauliflower mousse. I order Angela's favorite mussels... all I can say is delicious. Perhaps the most unlikely location one could find or more importantly would find. From the moment you step into Antoine's you passed from a typical 80's strip plaza into Belgium. Many European folk claim the best Culinary traditions come from Belgium. Antoine's is all at once a place that is half French and half Dutch. The best of both in my humble opinion. The Host Oliver, himself a bigger then life Restauranteur greets each Guest like an old friend who has returned from a long journey and now they are finally Home. Quite Honestly the smells the flavors the attentive but not officious Service Staff operate like as a well oiled Netherlands Machine and the Kitchen like a French Guide Michelin bistro. We sampled the Belgian Endive Tarte, the Grilled Octopus, and the House made Burrata. All three were tasty and well presented. The Chef, his Wife the Boss is a master of Presentation and a seriously talented Chef. There's a respectable Wine list with the usual expectations and some nice unknown bottles available that are memorable. We all opted for the Monday Mussels Specials, served along with real as they can be Belgian Frittes, the only thing missing was perhaps some lemon aioli for the Frittes. Two of us ordered The Dessert Trio and was as delightful as the current Sarasota Weather. The third one of us had the Belgian Chocolate Mousse. Beyond Exquisite Our meal at Antoine's yesterday evening was beyond exquisite. We are long time fans of this hidden gem which is finally getting widespread recognition as an exceptional restaurant. We started our meal with a complimentary amuse-bouche of cauliflower bisque which was delightful. For starters we sampled the carrot ginger bisque, the asparagus bisque, escargot, and the seared octopus - and all were outstanding. Antoine's doesn't skimp on the bread either. Both the rolls served with our starters, and the baguette with our mains were hot and obviously house made. Each of our main courses was outstanding. My husband throughly enjoyed Angela's Mussels and our son went into raptures over the perfectly seared scallops served on a bed of risotto with a candied tangerine beurre blanc sauce. Our son's fiancé raved about the duck, and I had that evening's special, which was a Chilean sea bass layered with smoked salmon in a puff pastry crust. Both the duck and the special were accompanied by perfectly cooked asparagus and broccoli. It's hard to choose who ordered the best dessert, because everything on the desert menu is exceptional. My husband had the molten chocolate lava cake, our kids shared a crème brûlée, profiterole with salted caramel ice cream with Belgian chocolate drizzle, and blood orange sorbet. I opted for the blood orange sorbet, and thoroughly enjoyed every delicious refreshing bite. Olivier is the consummate host, and Angela is a superb chef. Along with their well trained staff, they make Antoine's hum.
