I'm new to the area and was thankful to have an old school retailer keeping shop in downtown Antioch. Stuck right in the middle of the Christmas Story film set. But that's where the quaintness ends. The owner Rick is there most days and you get the sense that employee turn over is rare. It is clear that customers have been around for a long time. My day: I broke my bike, 45 minutes before closing on a snowy Saturday. I loaded up the bike, dashed in expecting to pay for a pair of cranks, an exorbitant repair ticket and a "pick it up next week" to finish off the weekend. Nope. Steve mechanic saw that my left crank was stripped. He dug out a mismatch for 10 bucks and popped it in while I shopped. While it was up on the rack, he gave it a once over and found a couple additional nuggets that needed attention. Elissa (that's with an E people, not a "uh") showed me around smart trainers, embarrassingly fitted biking shorts and a couple more appropriate "baggy style" shorts. The shop also sells some repaired/trade in bikes if you need a deal and particularly interesting, they do rentals of those Fat Tire bikes. As an Arizona transplant, they are calling to me... riding a bike in the snow??? Where am I!!? I am at the Antioch Cyclery. Happily walked out spending only $25 but will be back to spend more and become a regular. read more
