As I walked around the back of a building that looked abandoned with the exception of an old dry cleaner I couldn't help think a) I hope I make it out of this HP strip mall alive and b) this is exactly the type of business I'd never find if it wasn't for Yelp. So yelpers...thank you for helping me find Anthony! My sis-in-law got married last weekend. I had ordered my bridesmaids dress when I was 7 months pregnant and Jenny Yoo* convinced me to order my dress 3 sizes bigger even though my baby would be 4 1/2 months old by wedding time. When I picked up the dress there was good & bad news. Good news- the dress was 3 sizes too big. Phew! Bad news- I had to find someone to make this dress fit. I have a few tailors I like in the city, but time is limited these days so I turned to Yelp to find a local tailor. The day I called Anthony to ask for his hours and he said he'd stay late just for me I knew I'd found a gem. And when I met him I was even more impressed. He's one of the sweetest people I've met since moving to the North Shore and definitely seems to know his stuff when it comes to tailoring. I was so impressed that I sent my husband his way to make his wedding tux fit five years later. And I even brought Anthony my daughter's flower girl dress and he found a way to take it out just a bit since I was paranoid about a growth spurt coming on. Simply the best. Anthony is a true tradesman. He knows his craft and executes superbly. Not a seamstress masquerading as a tailor. The incident that convinced me to make Anthony my only tailor happened a few years ago. I had purchased a gown from Lord & Taylor on super clearance for a black tie event but it needed a little adjusting in the bodice. This was tricky because much of the bodice was made from a sheer material. I took the dress to a number of other tailors prior to Anthony and they all wanted to cut the shoulders and put seams in where there hadn't been any before. Thus destroying some of the beauty of the dress. When I brought the dress to Anthony he told me that was the lazy way to fix the dress. What needed to happen was that the bodice needed to be detached from the skirt and adjusted from there. He did that and the dress was perfect! I don't go anywhere else now! read more

DON'T go to this tailor. I searched yelp for a reputable tailor for my bridal shower IVORY jumpsuit and my 3 daughters IVORY bridesmaids dresses. I went to Anthony because he had amazing reviews. I dropped off bridesmaid dresses first which he said would take 2 weeks. In the meantime I dropped off my jumpsuit to be altered. I picked up jumpsuit and dresses when they were done and brought home. There were little black spots on front and back leg of my jumper. When I called Anthony about the stain he said it's not from him but bring in and he'll try and get out. He couldn't get out the stains and made it worse. THEN a week later when I took my girls dresses out of the dry clean bag, I noticed one of the dresses had a brown stain all down the back of the dress. I was crushed that her dress was ruined with my wedding being less than 2 weeks away. I refuse to step foot in that place and warn others, if you have any light colored clothing, don't bring to him, he will ruin. I brought the dress to my dry cleaners, praying they could undo what Anthony did. My cleaners said it was definitely oil from a sewing machine. Thankfully they got most of it out. I called Anthony demanding my money back for the alterations on that dress and for the dress since he ruined! He said no refund, he won't take my word or pictures. Awful awful awful!!!! I will never go here again, and would never recommend Anthony's to my female friends. Anthony made me feel very uncomfortable with every visit. He made incessant comments about my body and my looks. On my first visit while he pinned my dress for alterations, he ran his hands down my back and over my buttcheeks while saying I had "the perfect shape." I was told my dress would be ready for pickup on a Thursday. I went Friday morning, and the dress was not ready. Before telling me to return in a few hours, he commented again about my looks. I was irritated that the dress was not done, so I left in a hurry. I returned hours later to discover the dress was ready, but now had a stain on the front. He said to return in 30 minutes and he would get the stain out. But then, again, he made a comment about my looks. Let me be clear... This wasn't a simple compliment. This was SEVERAL MINUTES of him standing too close, while making remarks about my body and my looks. He even pulled out his cell phone to show me how good-looking women are viewed in his culture. I never asked or engaged with his comments at all, but he just kept doing it. It was very unprofessional and made me very uncomfortable. When I returned for the 3rd time that day to pick up my dress, I was relieved that he wasn't there. I will not be returning. read more

I went to Anthony's based on the reviews from Yelp. My daughter has her 1st communion coming up and decided to wear the dress that I wore (back in the day). She is much smaller than I was at 8 years old. Anthony and his wife, Irene, at first I think, were in shock to see us come in. But I explained why we were there and they were a delight to work with. My daughter loved Anthony and his sense of humor. She suggested that I write this review. Without any explanations, other than why we were there, they took on the task, like experts. They gave comments on things to add, like a satin ribbon around the waist to keep it up to date. Making both my daughter and I feel very well and confident. When we went back to pick it up. I noticed that they did not cut the dress, only hemmed it with keeping the material underneath. I was excited to notice this. I forgot to mention to Anthony that I have another daughter to follow. Now she has the choice to use the dress, if she desires. Such a great guy and a good sense of humor made our experience there excellent. When I asked how much I owe, he said that it is a gift for my daughter's 1st communion. So sweet, it left both myself and my daughter smiling all day. read more

I recently brought a dress to Anthony to have the straps shortened. He recommended additional alterations and, in the end, the dress fit like a glove. He has an incredible eye for fit. His prices are not low, but I would trust him completely with my favorite items of clothing. Previously, my son brought in a suit that he had purchased for interviewing for his first job. Anthony very honestly told him that he would not be able to make this suit fit properly and recommended he return it and purchase a different one. The catch was I was coming in on Saturday and needed my suit back *before* Thursday. Keep in mind I am a first time customer who is only bringing in one suit. Anthony immediately volunteered that he could just stay late on Wednesday so I would be able to get there after work. That is some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Anthony is exactly the tailor I have been looking for all these years. He is absolutely great- attentive to your needs, understands fabric well and is realistic about what can be done. I brought in an expensive pair of pants and a thrift store find that I just loved but could not fit into. Anthony and his wife (family business, I love it!) fixed everything very quickly and the job looks fantastic (great fit, exactly the length I wanted for the pants). Pants were particularly tricky, because Anthony had to adjust the length and also the waist. Both were done perfectly! My lovely girlfriend had to have a dress taken in for a birthday dinner, and the clock was ticking. Anthony went out of his way to make sure the dress was done in time, and did a spectacular job. The dress wasn't just taken in, but minute changes were made to the overall form of the dress, to make it even more flattering. Modified seams were expertly stitched, and imperceptible from the original stitching if I hadn't seen the dress beforehand. Anthony's shop is tucked in the corner of a small brick business center. Enter from Pine Ave., into the parking lot, and look for the red awning. He only accepts personal check and cash. My girlfriend and I were both very pleased by the quality of the workmanship. There are less expensive tailors in the North Shore, but Anthony has proven to be worth every penny when it comes to your more precious outfits. read more

I have not been to a real tailor in years so I had no idea where to go. The Yelp reviews for Anthony's were good so I decided to check him out. I sincerely doubt if there is another tailor within 500 miles of where I live that can compare to Anthony. First, he is an outstanding tailor, a master of his craft. Second, he is a wonderful person who really, truly cares about his customers, many of whom are also friends. He gave me a course in 30 minutes on how suits are made and what to look for when buying one. He also stayed late to alter a suit I needed for an important event. Anthony is from another time when business owners cared about the quality of their work and the customers they were taking care of. I've had this sitting in my unfinished reviews for a while now, and I have to share it. It's not a good review by any means, so a part of me never wanted to share it, but I can't hide it. "I'm sorry, but this place is completely unprofessional. As far as craftsmanship goes, 5 stars. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Long story short, Anthony had two articles of clothing of mine that needed SIMPLE alterations and it took him just under a month and a half to do them. Unfortuntely you read that correctly, a month and half. He pushed back his deadline for when the articles would be done 4 TIMES!!!!! I don't care how good of a tailor you are, that is completely unprofessional and there is a lack of respect for the customer when that happens. No intigrity whatsoever. Long story follows if anyone is interested: I went into Anthony's after moving here from Chicago and I needed a new tailor close by. I saw the great reviews and thought I would try him out. I only brought in two coats that needed to have a few inches taken off the bottom, that's it. He told me they would be ready in two weeks. A little long, but no worries. I came back in two weeks. Anthony tells me the coats aren't done and asks if I can come back in a week and a half. That should have instantly been a red flag since if most tailors can't finish your piece when they say they will, they will make it top priority and get it to you the next day. Not a week and a half later. Anyways, I stupidly agree and come back in a week and half (which ends up being a Friday). Coats still aren't done. He asks if I can come back in a week. Being the idiot I am, I agree. I come back the next Friday and he says he's working on the coats right now. Are you fucking serious! It's been a fucking month! He tells me come back tomorrow and he'll have them ready for me. I come back the next day (Saturday) and he tells me the coats are done but they're at the dry cleaners. He has me write down my address and phone number and he says he will personally deliver them to me when they're done. When he said this, I had regained some respect for him. I'm sure you can all guess what happened next. No phone call. No coats dropped off. These are the kinds of things you just can't make up. I was unable to go back in Monday to pick them up, so I stop in Tuesday to pick up the coats. Again, reminder, it's been over a month now. I walk in, and his line to me, which was the snakiest line I've ever heard and I should have blown up in his face, was "my wife just left with your coats to drop them off at your place." Really Anthony, really. Are you sure? Here, let me go home and wait for her to drop off my coats. Oh, what do you know. No coats are dropped off. I go back in Wednesday and he gives me the biggest bullshit line ever, "she went to drop them off and forgot to call you." Forgets to call me! How the hell else would she expect to find me in an apartment building with 300 residents. Yodel (sp)? Anyways, he finally had my coats, I paid and left. *as a side note, I mentioned earlier that the work was 5 star but that's actually not accurate. He accidentally cut the seam to one of my pockets and instead of fixing of it (probably because it would have taken him another month), he told me not to put my keys in my pocket or they would fall yet. Yet, when I took that same coat into another tailor to have the sleeves taken in, not only did she get it back to me in less than a week, but she also fixed the pocket without telling me and without charging me. I dropped a new coat off a month and a half ago to have some alterations done. Anthony told me it would take a week. I came back probably 2 weeks later and it still wasn't done. Like a lot of the other reviews said....it definitely takes a bit of time. However, I went to pick the jacket up today and he didn't charge me anything....can't complain about that. He did a great job on the jacket. Would use again....just be prepared to wait a while longer to have it done unless it's an emergency. read more
