I was in need of a tailor to replace the broken zipper on my winter coat. I was skeptical after reading a few one star reviews on here but I took a chance and am glad that I did. Tom certainly isn't the most personable person but the work he did for me was wonderful. He showed me the zipper he would use to replace my broken one so I knew what I was getting before the work was done. The cost (very reasonable) was agreed upon before I left the coat with him. Turnaround time was extremely quick - only 2 days I believe. The best part was when I picked my coat back up, not only had the zipper been replaced, but he took it upon himself to patch a gaping hole in the interior lining of my coat which was created by the previous zipper snagging on the lining and ripping open a big hole once I finally unjammed the zipper. He noticed it when I dropped the coat off for repair and I made a casual comment about it but I was shocked to see he had taken it upon himself to repair it. I was not charged anything extra for this additional repair which was done just as well as the zipper replacement. I've been using the winter coat daily for several weeks now and have not had any issues with his replacement & repair work. I will certainly go back for future tailor needs. read more

I had an extremely similar experience to "Holly" who left a more detailed review a few years ago. This gentleman apparently likes pants that only barely touch the top of the shoe. He did not agree with the length that I wanted my pants hemmed, so he refused to do my alterations. He went back and forth between completely ignoring me and making snarky/passive-aggressive comments until I quietly left. Frankly, I pay to have a hem put where I want it, not where the tailor wants it. I won't be back. I doubt I'll be missed. read more

I went to get a patch put on one of my uniforms and I asked if I could put the jacket on so the centering is right. He then got upset gave my jacket back to me and refused to put on the patch. I thought the other 1 star reviews were people over reacting but I found out that they were spot on. If you ask for any kind of adjustment he takes offense to it as if you are insulting his alteration skills. read more

I have used a tailor in Deerfield for years, but I was only so-so about his performance and his prices. I also have used a number of cleaners that also do alterations, but when I recently moved to Wheeling I needed to find a new tailor. I just lost some weight, bought some new clothes and needed to get a bunch of work done. 13 pairs of pants, two sport coats and two suits. I first brought him one suit and two pairs of pants. I wanted to make sure that he was going to do it all the right way before I left all my clothes with him. He measured and marked each item individually. Each sleeve and each pant leg. (some tailors will mark one leg and assume that your other leg is the same length. This isn't the right way of doing it. Your hip might be a little lower on one side, your leg might be a little shorter. whatever. To do it right, you need to measure each leg individually.) He marked not only the waist of the pants, but adjusted the inseam so that the pant legs would taper correctly when he drew the waist in tighter. Rather than just mark the sleeves of the coats, he measured the distance from the tip of my thumb, the right way of marking that as well. I came back three days later, and it was all done. The suit fit perfectly. The pants hung correctly at my waist and were the correct length. The taper on the pant legs was correct, and the seat of the pants fit well without being too tight or too loose. I was very happy. Not only that, but his pricing was lower than I had paid in the past. And, he gave me a receipt with the price written both on my copy and on his copy. There was going to be no question as to what it would cost. So, I was a happy camper. Came in a few days later with the rest of my wardrobe. He marked each item. On my casual pants, he recommended saving the money and not doing cuffs. He said that most people don't wear cuffs with casual pants. Saved me $4 per pair. Actually, I couldn't be happier. He is prompt with his work, he won't do more than you actually need done, he is meticulous with his marking, chalking and pinning of each garment. I will certainly use him as my tailor of choice from now on. read more

Tom is experienced, but not the politest. He altered my suit jacket in one night - which I highly appreciate, but my experience would have been better if he had refrained from snapping at me "I told you cash only!" When I had forgotten that he does not accept credit card. Also, $56 to slim the waist and shorten the sleeves was not the best deal around. Probably won't visit again. Good result, but expensive and didn't feel appreciated. read more

Tom does a GREAT job! I've had a few patches put onto clothes as well as had clothes tailored and i've been extremely happy with the results! He's very thorough and straight to the point. It isn't necessarily cheap but he truly does a good job. Highly recommended! read more

THIS TAILOR IS A HORRIBLE RUDE person! If I could, I would give him negative stars. He REFUSED to pin the hem on my pants because we had a difference of opinion on the correct length of a pair of pants on a previous visit. That was months ago, and we had resolved that issue back then. In fact, I brought two other items to him for repair since then. However, today, when I returned with additional pants to hem, he told me to pin them myself. When I told him that I need his assistance to figure out the correct length, he mocked me by repeating, "You do it yourself, I don't know anything." I was patient and polite, thinking that if I waited, he would surely assist me. However, he continued working and ignored me. I stood there in front of the mirror waiting, and I asked him numerous times but he persisted in his refusal to help me, and continued to mock me, saying things like, "You know better, so you do it yourself." I was practically in tears from frustration, not to mention it was a 100 degree day and he has no air conditioning in his shop. I quietly left the shop, extremely upset! This is UNACCEPTABLE behavior for a shop owner!! I have never before experienced such disrespect, sarcasm and rudeness from any business owner. I am a polite, respectful, patient person, and at the very least, expect decent treatment in return! read more

When I met Tom I thought he just came off cold but he is actually very rude. When I first took in a few pairs of pants to him they were still so long that I was stepping on the back of my pant cuff when I walked. I brought this to his attention and he explained that that there is supposed to be a, "break" in the pants. There is a clear difference between a break and a pant leg that starts to fray away because you keep stepping on it. He then told me that I wasn't wearing my pants high enough. Um excuse me.....? These are MY clothes! And it's the EXACT SAME WAY that I wore them when he took my measurements. He then offered to, "fix" all of them, and ended up tailoring them SO SHORT that they were over two inches above my ankles! He RUINED like three pairs of dress pants that I had spent $100 each on! I wore them to work and I had multiple people laugh at how goofy I looked. I don't know if it was more embarrassing or infuriating. I spent hundreds of dollars on clothes that I basically had to throw away. Add the fact that he only takes cash and he's basically the worst tailor you could ever choose to work with. STAY AWAY!!! If you need an actual good tailor in the area I'd recommend J & K Cleaners off Wieland Rd I tried them out of frustration with this guy and the experience was night and day. The one good thing I'll say is that Tom actually did a good job on my suit jackets but that doesnt outweigh the pants he butchered for me. It was a very sad experience and I won't ever go back to this guy. read more

I went to Tom's Tailor because he took half the price of other tailors to hem jeans with the original hem, but when I got the jeans back, the work,a ship was nice, however, they were still too long ( way past my shoes and dragging on the ground). I called him soon after to tell him and he replied, " oh, I have to be careful with you. You had said you wanted them long." When he had done the measurements, they were perfect, but I guess that didn't translate. I'd have been better off paying the full $18 dollars for a tailor who actually knew what they were doing. His rudeness cost him many future transactions, as I will not be going back. read more

I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone. I went in there to have dress slacks tailored and/or altered. When I came out of the fitting room he said "they are too long". I asked that the waist be fixed also because they didn't fit correctly. He told me he "couldn't do anything" with the slacks and walked away from me. Wouldn't even hem them up! He refused to explain what the issue was. Apparently he doesn't need any more business. Shame on him. read more
