He's a very charming man, but I don't know if he's taken on more work than he could possibly do. He had my items for a month and didn't touch them. He could have had them completed in less than an hour. He kept telling me to come back. After the 3rd time I finally told him just to give me my stuff back, I do it myself, kind of silly. John refused to refund for the panels that were made too short. Starting freaking out on my husband and said it wasn't his fault. He didn't even offer to reimburse us for the panel we had already paid for that he didn't even touch. As far as I'm concerned he stole our money since we paid for a service that wasn't completed. He presented 6 pieces of scraps and said that they were all 14 inches. My husband laid out the panels on the floor and showed him the lengths he said it was our fault? He only hemmed 5, not 6. So, clearly he was lying. He took zero accountability. We paid $240 for hemming, plus the cost of the curtains which are now ruined. My husband has tried going back multiple times after letting him cool down and his door is always locked. I'm so upset. I will be contacting the better business bureau. read more

I brought in (4) suits for tailoring with a (2) week lead time for him to finish. When I went to pick them up only (1) was ready and told the rest would come one at a time over the next few days. Fine, he's busy, understood. First suit: pants too tight, had to be adusted. Second suit: pant waist ajusted, but not tailored in crotch as discussed Third suit: pant waist slightly adjusted but nothing else done and very baggy. Fourth suit: jacket not touched. pant waist slightly adjusted, but nothing else done and very baggy. Four suits: $540 Since the 4th suit was not wearable as the pants fit so poorly, I took them to a different tailor in Mundelein. She took in jacket and fitted the pants correctly for $95. I plan to take the other (2) suits which also don't fit right to her as well. This guy is nice and pleasant, but he takes way too long, charges a premium, and the finished items don't meet expectations. Good for him if he's so busy to take as long as he does, and charge what he does, but at least make it worth it. Quality of work was also a bit shoddy as some of the pant hems are coming loose already. I won't use him again. read more

I've been a customer of John's Tailor's Touch for about two years. While I was generally satisfied with his work, I was recently very disappointed. I recently brought in eight sleeveless dresses to be taken in along the side seams. After waiting four weeks, I was shocked by the amateur quality of the work. As a former seamstress, I was appalled; the stitching was a simple basting stitch, not a permanent one. And the seams were not finished and ironed flat as a proper side seam should be! I will not be back...$$$ down the drain and I will do them myself! read more

Stay far away from this guy. If you're a groom or Groomsmen that's in a wedding or need something done by a certain date or time. I brought a jacket and pants in a few weeks ago and expressed that I was getting married and it needed to be done no later than June 20. He said no problem and that it would be done on June 19. On June 19, I couldn't get to the Taylor that day so I had to go the morning of the 20th before my rehearsal dinner later that day. I get there to pick it up and what do you know he is still working on it. I expressed that I needed it by 2 PM that day and that because it wasn't ready on time I would be paying 140 Instead of the 153 originally Priced. This is also because I took in a jacket I was going to wear for the rehearsal As well But because it wasn't ready, I asked him to stop working on the Rehearsal jacket and focus on the suit for the wedding. Well, this struck a nerve in the owner and he began yelling at me that he should do it for free because "he doesn't need the money" And that I should have been there on the 19th to pick it up. I ended up insisting on paying him the 140 because of the work he did already and expressed to him that it should be done on the date agreed-upon, regardless of when I pick it up. This guy is a joke! Stay away! I dropped off 4 pair of sweat pants on January 27th to get the seams repaired. A simple fix, so I thought... John seemed nice when I dropped them off and I was promised they would be ready in a week. He asked me to prepay the 24 dollars in cash. I did and received my ticket stub with the promised date and time written on it. Pickup time was 1 pm on February 3rd. I went in at 11:00 am was rudely told to come back at the promised time.. No biggie, I was 2 hours early.....my bad I ran some errands and came back at 3 pm.. John had 2 customers in his shop and I was 3rd in line when I walked in... He then stared at me and told me to come back on Monday the 5th...I joked and said "are you kidding?" He said "no, go away and come back Monday" I thought to myself, this guy is a dick. He was not very nice and raised his voice starting to argue with me.. I told him I'll wait for him to finish with the 2 ladies in front of me and all I wanted to do was pick up my sweats.. Again, he told me to go away... I said i'm not leaving without my clothes as I showed him the pick up ticket I had... John then reached around the corner grabbed my sweats and threw them on a chair, handed me back my money and snatched the ticket out of my hand... I took my sweats and went home... After washing them I noticed the repairs had NOT been done. What a joke! John had them for a week and never repaired them. I don't know why this guy is still in business. I've been meaning to write this review for a while, and now I finally find myself having a free moment to! I am absolutely ecstatic about my experience with John this past September when I trusted him to alter my WEDDING DRESS!! We had done a few separate fittings and John are not only added a bustle, he tapered the shape to my body, took it in about 2 to 3 inches everywhere, took up all four layers so it wasn't so long, and added a hook closure on the back to keep things nice and secure. Plus he's so my bridal sash onto the gown itself. I could not be more happy with how my dress turned out on my wedding day. He gave me just enough room in my hips so that I would be comfortable when sitting down, But made it tight enough to where it still hugged and accentuated my figure. I see a lot of other reviewer's complaining about the turnaround time, but I was happy to give John all the time he needed to ensure a job well done! I was quoted 3 weeks and it took 5, not a big deal! I would much rather he take 5 weeks to do the job with precision and grace than hurry it along to make sure it's done in less time. I think with any specialty tailoring like this, you should really allow yourself 4-6 weeks from the time of your event ***minimum. Any less is silly! Each time I went into the shop, he was such a pleasure to talk to. He is a really nice guy and a respected business owner! The work John does is precise and clean, and he will have my business again! I should note my mother in law used John's tailor touch as well, to hem two jumpsuits she purchased for our wedding aswell, and was thrilled by the results. John left me a voicemail asking me to pick them up. I tried to pick them up a week later but there was a sign on the door stating he was gone for 2 hours. Three weeks later, I tried to pick them up but John informed me he gave my suits away to the Salvation Army. He literally left me a voicemail 39 days before asking me to pick them up with no warning that he might give them away. My four suits were worth $5,000. I still cannot comprehend how any person who owns a small business would do something so careless without telling his customers. I will never go back and I hope any new customer thinks twice before visiting this place. read more

What to say about John. We've used him numerous times in the past with no problems. When we recently charged him with our most important task, he displayed a lack of talent, integrity and professionalism that left us shocked and scrambling for help. We were scheduled to be married on May 21st. We brought him my wife's wedding dress 5 weeks in advance. 5 weeks. For relatively minor adjustments to the straps, the length and the cups. Granted, the dress was detailed - fabric, mesh and beadwork. We paid $250 in advance. He assured us that it was no problem, he could handle it and he could get it done before the annual "Prom Rush". We quickly got the impression that he was in over his head. After 4 weeks, 4 return visits, 4 re-dos, my bride stood there in a dress where the cups sat below her breasts, the mesh around her chest was puckered out and the bottom hem was crooked. John advised her - and this is a quote - "Don't stand like that, stand like this and no one will notice but you. I can't do anything else. I'm done." One week before an out-of-town wedding, and she's panicked in tears. We found another seamstress who was able to repair the damage for a $295 price tag. After a few days of cooling off, I went to John to voice my displeasure...calmly. I explained our disappointment - strongly but calmly - and suggested that I wanted $150 of my $250 returned. He could keep $100 for his time. He freaked out....melted down.... tantrumed. Yelling, hitting the wall, accusing me of planning this all along to get something for nothing, etc. He showed no remorse, no accountability, no responsibility, no attempt at reconciliation. After all this time we learned that John is nothing but an average ability tailor, completely lacking in anything that resembles professionalism. Bush league. I would not recommend this business - yes, John was nice but nice doesn't make up for the THREE garments he ruined! Jeans #1 - all he did was add darts across the waistband which made the waist too tight and uncomfortable with those bulky darts. Another pair of jeans he did the same with the waistband and in narrowing the legs the seams weren't even even...one leg went down to the knee, the next went only mid thigh. For the price I paid, I would have expected the waistband to be removed, made smaller and then reapplied (like my tailor did back home.) Then I had this darling caftan-type shirt that was just too big...he butchered the shoulder/arm seams...I swear he did it while I was waiting to pick it up because he wasn't ready on time. The thread was a completely different color and he even captured the body of the garment in the seams...Atrocious! I had to completely re-do the shirt and jeans....What a waste of hard earned dollars. Not going back...no ever! read more

I had used this business several times in the past before moving out of state. Now back in the area, I referred my significant other in to have a suit tailored for an upcoming family wedding. The suit was dropped off 5/9. John stated it would be ready 5/23, as the claim check illustrates. Note that this is a full 2 weeks and my significant other did not argue the time needed despite our flight leaving on 5/27 at 8am. Given my significant other's work schedule, I agreed to pick up the suit. I ended up having a very busy day and dispatched a co-worker to pick it up yesterday, 5/25, at 3:00pm. John initially chastised my co-worker for not being the wearer of the suit and stated it needed to be fitted but then eventually acknowledged that it wasn't actually ready - 2 days after the two-week lag time! I arrived mid-day today (5/26), 3 days after the promised date to pick up the suit. Luckily, this time it was ready. I then asked why it wasn't ready in time and commented that a full 2 weeks had passed, and another two days, and it should have been ready as promised yesterday when my co-worker arrived to pick it up. I also commented that I was embarrassed after suggesting this business that promised times could not be fulfilled. He then asked for payment and I presented my credit card and paid $77.00. As he was completing the transaction he explained that "I don't understand his business" and that he has no obligation to meet promised times if other customers come in and need work done." My response was that I may not be familiar with his business but I do understand promised times and he should meet the deadlines he establishes for himself. His response was to proceed to use profanity with me (F***) in explaining his view that I had no right to question him in this manner. He then told me that I can't complain because I am not the customer. Please note, I just paid. I am the customer. My advice: Stay away. read more

I will never go back to John's Tailor's Touch for how rudely I was treated by John. I had a rip in a gown that I gave to him to be fixed. When I picked up the gown and got home, I realized that he had also sewn the front of the gown to the back, making it so that you couldn't even put on the dress. I drove back to his store and when he saw me walk in with the gown, before I could even get one word in, John got very defensive and said, "I did everything you asked for correctly," "this is why I don't do a lot of repairs because I make no money on them," "you probably tried it on when you got home and ripped it." When I finally had a chance to speak I showed him what was wrong and he kept denying it until finally he understood his mistake and his tune completely changed. He said, "oh yes you're completely right, my mistake!" He then went in the back to fix the sewing on the dress and handed it back to me after. He didn't even apologize for accusing me of something I did not do in front of all his customers. I can't believe how rudely I was treated for his mistake. read more

Seeing this negative review for such an upstanding local tailor screamed for my input. Personally, I couldn't be any happier with the work and work ethic of John. I came in with a desperate need to get a suit worked on before a big event. I'm talking my suit needed to be ready that day...in 4 hours. Not only did he do that, but he did it so with no attitude. The suit looks and feels PERFECT. I knew he was busy that day, and yet he still took the time to make sure I was satisfied. The only reason I haven't given John a 5 star review is I feel that I haven't gone enough times to know the full scale of his work. I'm sure that it will be a 5 star soon, though. His prices aren't cheap, but you pay for what you get. He's a tailor that you can trust with suit or a wedding dress. He does excellent work on both. His personality is certainly in your face, but hey, it's his business and his handiwork is quality. If anything, it's just a good experience. And his sewing skills are beyond OK. I took two formal gowns to John to be shortened one week before need date. John was very busy during this timeframe but he knew I was in a last minute scramble for my daughters wedding. He squeezed me in to his busy schedule and delivered! He also recommended some slight alterations where one dress was not fitting well. Both dresses turned out perfectly. The price point was great and half what my daughter paid in the city. Also important to mention is that John is a very nice person to work with. I brought some pants in to be hemmed. John looked at them and gave me the price to hem them. He had me pay BEFORE which was fine. He told me they would be ready in two weeks. When I went to pick them up, he said he had changed his mind about the price because they were lined, and I had to pay more money since he went ahead and did the work. I explained that since he had seen the pants and quoted me the price already, I shouldn't have to pay extra. He didn't care and was extremely rude and condescending. Not a way to run a business. I tried this place to get a couple of suits altered that I purchased online. Pants taken in about an inch. Good job here hemmed. I really liked the way John listed to the what I wanted. Ended up with a medium break and slightly angled with the back being about an 1/8 of and in lower then the front. As far as the stitching goes, it shows more then any other place I've taken a suit to. Barely noticeable up close, so I guess I can live with it. Jacket Sleeves shortened - looked good till I got it home. then I noticed that he hemmed the sleeves so that they don't overlap at the buttons anymore. Looks more like a regular jacket hem. Out of all the times I have taken a suits or sport-coats to a tailor, I have never seen one done this way. Had to take to another tailor to get it fixed (waiting to see if they can or if John cut away the material needed). I guess I could have asked John to fix it, but I don't trust the quality of his work anymore. Collar Dropped about an inch - Cut and look was good, however the actual hand stitching looks like a 6th grade home economics student sewed it. John also charges a little bit more than others in the area. I knew this when I took the suits to him and I am willing to pay more for quality work. I thought that his work was going to be good so I was more than happy to pay it at the time. Now after seeing what he has done to my suits I truly regret taking my suits there at all. read more

He argued with me about every little question or request...including just asking for a receipt. His response... 'What for!?! You have your coat!! You only paid 6 dollars!! What do you want?!?! He acts very entitled and became very abusive when I showed any level of self-respect and asked for just a receipt, or if not a receipt...to just keep my stub...didn't want to even allow that for some reason. The workmanship was great, but the outcome was not was I was expecting. My advice to anyone who goes and wants a coat relined with a fun, new lining is that he shows you the material first. I wanted to get a gray lining to replace the torn up black lining, but when I got it back, the lining is so dark that it looks black (I didn't see thematerial beforehand)... That was disappointing, but, as I said, the workmanship on the lining is well done. read more

John did a fantastic job in altering 1 suit, 1 tuxedo and 1 sport coat. I had lost weight so the suit and tuxedo were too larger. He tapered the coats and pants so they fit like new! He was able to alter to sport coat so it remained it's original look even thought the sleeves were very long originally. I had used a local cleaners for other alterations but we was able to use an artist's eye to make everything fit perfectly. read more

I've been using this tailor for a few years on a friend's recommendation. The Best! Always friendly, always quality work. The last time I was there we came in last minute two days before my son's first job interview. The suit he had was easily a size too big.
