Cheese garlic bread.
Jay T.

After a long day of driving and hiking, we asked our son and heir what he wanted for supper. Pizza was the request, so pizza was the destination. I was reading the reviews for Melting Pot Pizza and one mentioned that they're cash-only, so we decided to try Anthony's instead. We started with drinks- 2 sweet teas and a root beer. Ordered the cheese garlic bread appetizer. It was pretty straightforward- most of a hoagie roll toasted with garlic butter, and covered with cheese. Tasty stuff, that. But if I'd realized how much food was yet to come, I would not have ordered it. The Boy ordered a small Meat Lover's Stromboli. He could only eat half of it initially. This, in and of itself, is astonishing. Darling Bride and I decided that we would split a medium Dough Boy pizza - a thicker crust topped with steak, fried onions, cheddar, and mozzarella. DB described it as "like a cheesesteak on a pizza." The crust was crisp on the bottom, but still nice and doughy. I almost think I'd have preferred it on a regular crust, though. The thick was too much food! The sauce was delicious - neither too acid nor sweet. The steak was cheesesteak style- thin and cooked to chewy perfection. The cheeses melted and sort of marbled together nicely. If you're in the Luray/Front Royal area, I highly recommend Anthony's! Our server, Starry, was knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. The bill came to $40.02 before tip.

Large Pepperoni.

Cheap decent pizza , good steak n cheese. The owner is a little on the rude and impatient side though.

Well I did this but when we got there, they said they don't allow that on weekends...but how was I suppose to know this. It's not posted on their website. But I explained we didn't know, it's our first trip and had traveled from northern Va, the staff was very nice and the mgr accommodated us. They were busy so service was not fast but we were ok with it. As for the food, maybe it's a locals thing with calling this the best pizza ever but for us, it was definitely NOT the best pizza nor the top 10! Sorry but my first clue was when our pizza came out and all I see was sliced CANNED mushrooms! I love mushrooms but not canned mushrooms on pizza...and there was so much toppings that we couldn't even tell if there were any cheese. The thin crust was good but overall, we just couldn't relate to the people that called their pizza the best. Sorry. Their wings were a good size and tasted good though. Mozzarella sticks were meh and cheesesteak didn't have much steak. The garlic cheese bread with mushrooms sounds good until....it had canned mushrooms again lol. With that said, front royal is not the place for pizza.

Poppy, after whom the restaurant is…read morenamed, is the grandfather of the people who work (and I suspect at least partially own) the place. You walk in and order at the counter. This is a down home breakfast place where clearly everything is made to order from scratch. When we arrived, there was a woman waiting on a large takeout order. The order was for the wedding party for her daughter who was getting married that day. The bride so loves this place that she wanted her wedding party to share breakfast from her favo spot. So you get the picture. Very simple, very local. We ordered an array of breakfast items that included omelettes, grilled cheese, egg and cheese and pancakes, toast, along with coffee. The service was wonderful, the people who work here are wonderful. The food is good, certainly not great. I am from a bigger city and perhaps my expectations are skewed from that. This is a great place to visit for breakfast just outside of the National Park and it feels nice to support the local business. Just know what to expect.

It was loaded with meat, the marbled rye was toasted to perfection, a nice crunch and then it was a sloppy bite to the end and I enjoyed every one of them. This is the best Reuben I have had in Front Royal and the surrounding area. She had the gyro and was very happy with the entire meal, the lamb was very tender fresh veggies and the tang of feta and a yummy tzatziki sauce.

We called the store to see what our options were and once we got the manager on the phone (3 phone called and 15 minutes later) spoke with the "Manager" who barely spoke any English and tried to sell us another pizza. Since he was not helpful over the phone I drove the 20 minutes back into town and waiting in the lobby which took about ten minutes of me standing there for anyone to ask if I needed help. I told the lady I received the wrong pizza and she said hold on let me get my manager. Five minutes later the same gentlemen I spoke to on the phone came to the front and didn't say anything just open the pizza box and said you wanted Peperoni? I said no, I ordered a Thin Cheese only and pointed to the sticker that said cheese. He didn't say anything else just took the wrong pizza in the back and 15 minutes later a Thin cheese pizza came out. In the time frame I was waiting many other customers were complaining about the time it was taking and at one point a lady came in with a bag of home made food and was selling it to the works. At least 5 of 8 associates came and bought some home made food while people were standing in the lobby wait. This used to be a decently run building but not sure if it was sold or no but I will not be going back until the employees and management changes.

The Turkey pesto sandwich was very oregano forward. It was tasty but I personally prefer a basil base pesto. She had the Say cheese sandwich which she stated was wonderful, cheesy and perfect. We both had the lobster bisque for our soup. It was flavorful, creamy and the perfect temp for sipping and dipping. I had a Chai tea (one of many available). I prefer a stronger spice and a little burn (ginger). It was a nice compliment to my meal. The pot for one provider 3 1/2 cups of tea. She had a sweet white wine, we did not ask if it were a Riesling or other, it was nice and went well with her meal. The only downfall which is only a big deal to me and maybe a few is styrofoam to go containers.
