Place looked nice, service was completely awful. A joke. If they cannot handle a big party, wedding, and a bday party why allow us to make a reservation? Where do I start, server came over and was not friendly. Asked us for our drinks, got them 25 mins later. Repeatedly asked for water for 45 mins. Appetizers were ordered and took another 45 mins to come out. Calamari was great, the "high class" grilled cheese was good, then we got the Arancini. Came with two small rice cones. Enough for a baby to eat. Food finally came out. Two steaks were asked to be cooked medium they were literally raw not cooked in the center. We eat meat medium rare but these steaks were literally mooing. The Zuppa da pest meal whatever that was had one piece of shrimp, no calamari, and the clams were dead and not opened. Two people got chicken piccata with pasta. It came out with mashed potatoes and no pasta (we asked for the pasta for 45 mins). Then another Person got muscles over linguini with red sauce. Three times this meal was brought out wrong!! The pasta literally wasn't cooked. At the end of the night, food was shit, service was shittier. By the way we got our pasta to go and a new muscles and linguini when we were getting up to leave. Maybe they should stick to catering or events or higher more staff to make a more enjoyable evening. We recently attended a wedding here and were quite impressed with the grounds when we pulled in. I would say that would be the best part of this place, the scenery. The parking lot was full due to another event happening at the same time. The valet had my husband double park and leave the keys in the car so they could move it if they needed to. The room where the wedding reception was held was very pretty, had a nice view and accommodated the party nicely. I can't comment on the cocktail hour (we arrived just as it was finishing) but the food overall was fine, not terrible, but not spectacular. The eggplant was actually really good, and I am usually not an eggplant person. When the main courses arrived, everyone at the table who ordered the surf and turf had to send the turf part back as they were all severely under cooked ( I am sure that had they asked those individuals how they wanted their steaks cooked that could have been avoided, but not one single person was asked). The wait staff could have been friendlier, our servers were a little short when we asked questions or needed clarification on something and it almost was like they were rushing to clear our table, we could barely finish our plates. I also asked for a to go box for my husbands food, since he had to wait for his steak to be thrown back on and when I came back to the table to box it up they had cleared it and thrown it away. I did mention that to the Maitre D who apologized and although they had no more surf and turf in the back, sent us home with eggplant. Beginning with the flavorful steak to the most amazing mushroom stuffed ravioli's!!! My Lord in Heaven! My wife and I recently attended 2 functions ( a wedding and a Christmas Party for Yale) in the last 4 weeks at Anthony's. We've been there at least 20 times before for other events and weddings and must say "every single time, nothing could have been better". Fabulous food and great servers. Most recently I lost my brand-new glasses at a Yale party (220 attendees) and a week later got a call from Brenda to tell me they had been found. Absolute garbage. I will make sure everyone I know and their friends and family never go to this restaurant. First off we waited over 45 minutes to even get a cup or water and then another half hour for a drink order which we decided to tell them our food order at the same time as they took forever. Food comes out and all the orders are wrong. My pasta was hard and crunchy and im a person who likes al dente. No this was hurt your teeth uncooked shit. My wife's steak had not a granual of salt or pepper. $30 for a bland dried out piece of meat umm no. So the manager comes over and does t even apologize or acknowledge the fact how rude her staff was to us. The waitress who finally came to serve us said sorry I'm just doing this because I have to I don't work this side of the Venue. I don't care where you work it's your job as a waitress to serve us. So that's just some of the issues. Needless to say they didn't offer to even comp a drink or a meal. If i could give this venue 0 stars, I would. Now let me explain! I have been to Anthony's several times over the years for many different celebrations. While in the past the occasions have been seamless, I have to say I'm absolutely appalled at how this venue is treating their clients who have to move their events due to COVID-19. My best friend has had her date set for TWO YEARS (6/27/2020) and has had the wedding paid in FULL for well over a year now. When she & I'm sure many other brides have inquired about her options to change the date, the "best" Anthony's could do was provide horrendous customer service from a woman (you know who you are, CHERYL) with an awful attitude along with charging them $17 dollars more per person to move the wedding to next year! What would be an extra $6,000 all together! When asked about getting their $50,000 refunded, they were laughed at. Meanwhile, there is nothing in the contract that references what should be done should a pandemic or natural disaster occur. I can't believe such a well known establishment is literally trying to rob these people BLIND after they have already paid for what they had planned for years. I can't imagine what other brides are going through, and i absolutely can't believe this is how this place is doing business! I will not recommend this venue to ANYONE for any type of occasion because no consumer deserves this type of treatment especially after the price tag that comes with it! visited this establishment to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. we had a party of 13. the service was extremely slow and it took 30 mins just to get water and bread to the table. after we finally ordered our meals it took over an hour for them to arrive. 1 in our party didn't get food at all and another got the wrong meal. when we alerted our server we were told the kitchen was closed! after requesting a manger we were told the same thing! eventually the manager agreed to take their orders again but said there'd be an "up-charge" for one of the orders because they wanted a customization. ultimately we ended up leaving with 2 people NEVER GETTING THEIR FOOD. AND TO TOP IT OFF THEY NEVER ACKNOLEDGED MY DAD'S B-DAY!!! I don't recommend EVER going to this place as I've tried unsuccessfully to this point getting hold of anyone that is willing to make amends. It is hard to believe you are in Connecticut when you come to Anthony's Ocean View. This venue is located right on the water front offering a gorgeous view of the boats and the horizon. The venue is beautiful and has a relaxing outdoor patio space for exterior events. The palm trees are the reason why I say its hard to believe you are in Connecticut, I don't think I've ever seen a palm tree north of South Carolina, but hey, you can definitely find some here. The event I attended today was out on the patio with a nice steel drum band. Had it been a bit sunnier I could've closed my eyes and definitely pretended I was in the Bahamas. The food served was really good. We had a wide variety of choices between the appetizers, seafood, burgers and hot dogs and ice cream for dessert. I heard the contracts for this place begin at a 100 person minimum even if you have less than that amount of attendees. It was a shame to see so much food basically thrown away when there was only about 40 of us. However, the place had ample parking and would definitely be a great special event venue. read more

My daughter was there this Saturday for a Small business shared holiday party, she lost her wallet, needless to say she had all her cards, cash, etc in it. It was left on the bar, this establishment had done nothing but disregard are phone calls and don't return phone calls. They confirmed they have cameras but never tried to view them and get back to us to see if they have video of the person who grabbed it. Very unprofessional needless to say very poor customer service, no matter how big of a venue, you should still be concerned about your customers. I had my wedding there this May and it was perfect. They pay such attention to detail and make sure your wedding day is seamless. Marcello and Sal worked our wedding and they get a 100% in our book. They were everywhere you needed to be, never in the way, but always a quick glance if you had a question. We did the buffet style wedding. We always knew we wanted to hold our wedding reception at Anthony's but they completely wowed us on our wedding day and confirmed we had made the right choice! Not only was the overall atmosphere-the beach, palm trees and ocean view- amazing for both the experience and photos, but the staff also went above and beyond to make our wedding reception beautiful and stress free. The room was decorated and arranged perfectly, there was so much AMAZING food and it was DELICIOUS (we are still getting comments on it two weeks later) and everything was completely COVID compliant. Our maitre d', Franco, was also lovely, he was very communicative with us on how we wanted things to flow through the night, and was there with warm towels and a mirror after the cake cutting for us to clean ourselves up with. Overall we feel we got the best wedding experience for our money, Anthony's truly is the best in the business, they know what they are doing and do it well. Disappointed in a wedding we recently attended here. Cocktail hour was outside but on old, plastic chairs with wobbly tables with boring appetizers like cheese, pizza, and "fried" items. There wasn't enough seating for guests either. Stepping inside for the wedding, we were seated near the window (which did offer a nice view of the sound) However, we were seated behind the balcony staircase and never could see the bride and groom especially when toasts were being made. We felt like we were in a separate room especially since we could hear the music and announcements in the room next store. My main course (surf and turf) was very good but the waiters kept removing food when we got up to go to the bathroom or get a cocktail. They also removed cocktails and bottled wine without asking. Re-training of the wait staff should be done especially since I see other reviews of this venue saying the same thing! Being on the water for a wedding, without a doubt, sets the scene for a romantic wedding. In the past I have attended events at this restaurant with enormous success. It is beautifully decorated and the grounds are spectacular. This time I had need of their catering services. Brian assisted me with ordering, on very short notice, with food for a family who had just experienced a death. People were gathering from out of state and the family had limited time to cook for 15+ people. Brian catered to me, as well as the food which was excellent. We had Easter dinner there tonight and I was not impressed. It is obvious that there is a severe lack of leadership at this establishment because it was a complete disaster from the minute you stepped foot on two ridiculously long lines outside to check in. Once you got inside you realized there was one clueless blonde lady behind a podium that had no clue what she was doing. It was 4 o'clock and there were people outside waiting in a long line that had 3:30 reservations but they couldn't hear the woman inside asking if anyone had 3:30 reservations lol. Common sense should have kicked in and she or someone else should have walked outside to make an announcement. The food was mediocre at best and they couldn't keep the food filled. It was very obvious they were in way over their heads and couldn't handle the overwhelming outcome they had. Dessert was disgusting and the best thing there was a fresh fruit platter that they couldn't keep filled. The elevator was broken and there were some upset people that need to be accommodated and that took them forever to accomplish, broken and dirty plates at the food line and all of these things probably could have been avoided if there was any management present doing quality checks to make sure their guests were getting the best service. They had prime rib and they were giving out the end pieces that looked gross. The potatoes were gross, they were basically a block. No one at our table finished their meal. I WAS NOT IMPRESSED. Just got done having Mother's Day brunch there. Very disappointing! I had made the reservations weeks prior and requested a window table. Ended up sitting on the complete other side of the dining room. Hostess couldn't even find our table. Buffet was mediocre at best, many "hot" items were cold and the quality of the food was not good. Desserts were just plain old and stale. Mimosa's barely had champagne in them and we were served them in dirty glasses that still had lipstick on them. Service was poor, I had to request a waitress after waiting 15 minutes or so. Then again to get our drinks refilled. It is no wonder they require you to pay in advance. My wife and I booked Anthony's Ocean View for our wedding back in October 2014. Anthony's hit almost every checkbox that we wanted, however the main thing we were concerned about was that Anthony's will host multiple events at one time, as they have 3 separate event rooms. Despite the coordinators promises that everything would be separate and that we wouldn't notice the additional events, this was not the case and there were several issues with this setup the day of our wedding. 1- The rooms were not sound proof. We were told we would not be able to hear anything, but music from the neighboring room was VERY clear in our room during my father in-law's and best man's speech. This was obviously pretty upsetting as it was difficult to hear them and it was supposed to be an emotional moment- not one with Little Wayne playing in the background. I will say once our DJ was playing music and the dancing on our side began we could not hear anything else. 2- We specifically bought toiletries and little gifts, such as sandals for the women, and placed them in the Lily bathrooms for our guests to use. We were told that the bathrooms were for the Lily rooms use only, and that the other rooms had their own bathrooms. It really would not have been an issue if other guests were simply using the Lily bathrooms, but when those guests are using the items we paid for and taking the sandals and such, we were not happy. We paid for those items so our guests would be comfortable, not for others. Anthony's did nothing to stop this, and I'll say it wasn't just one or two items taken, the vast majority of toiletry items and gifts were not used by our guests. We believe that once the other parties knew about the items in our bathroom, they started coming there specifically to use those things since their bathrooms did not have them. 3- The outdoor patio area was not closed off. There were children and guests from the other weddings running around outside our outdoor patio area because the gates were all left open. This wasn't a major issue, but again-we specifically asked the coordinators about having multiple events, and how that would affect our wedding-and they told us straight up that it wouldn't be an issue. The biggest issue we had with Anthony's was that after our wedding, we tried to contact the owners and got zero response. We called to try to get in touch them, but were told to write emails and they would be forwarded to the owners, which we did. We got no response. We followed up 2 weeks later and told them our issues again, but got no response. We specifically asked Anthony's employees if our emails were being sent to the owners and they confirmed that they were, but we got nothing back. We were NOT looking for any refund or any special treatment and literally wrote that in the email. What we asked for was for Anthony's to acknowledge the issues we had and say they'd take steps to prevent this from happening to others...Almost 4 months later, still no response. The unfortunate part is that the workers at Anthony's were great, our food was delicious and our coordinator (Alberto) was very helpful, my wife and I just felt mislead and lied to about the additional events interrupting our wedding. Bottom line, we had a fun wedding at Anthony's but had we known about all of the issues and the unresponsive owners, we probably would have chosen another venue. read more

I've assisted with planning end of the year celebrations at my place of employment, and we have had it at Anthony's for two years in a row because the price, location, service, and food have been superb. For both years, we booked the "clam bake" outside in the garden (Lily Room) which is immaculately manicured with a gazebo, and access to the beach where the view itself was amazing. Unfortunately we were unable to have the party outside during the first year because of threats of thunderstorms. However, I've been quite impressed that the staff wait to confirm the weather about an hour before the event before they set up (inside or outside). During both parties, the food was excellent with an array of appetizers, fresh seafood, grilled burgers and hotdogs and lots of Italian pastries and fruits for dessert. Having our end of the year celebrations at Anthony has impressed all of our staff because everything was impeccable from start to finish. read more

I was a wedding guest and was disappointed in the wait staff. One literally pushed me out of his way as I was taking a picture of the bride and groom dancing. It was the first dance and the dj invited everyone up to circle around them. He never tapped me on the shoulder or said excuse me. If that wasn't enough, they passed entrees in front of us instead of behind and to the side as any one else would do. They treated us like nuances instead of patrons and possible customers. The bar tenders were great, though and the food fabulous. But if I were the manager/owner, I'd definitely take a look at my waitstaff and seek some sort of training. Also, I learned that they do not have taste testings for potential couples looking for a nice venue for their wedding!! Dont ever order from catering menu here! Ordered tray of "eggplant parmesan " back in november that was the worst i have ever had. Eggplant was sliced vertically in long strips, no breading at all and was not fried . Tough, chewy and layered with thick layers of mozzarella cheese. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I was just part of my sister's wedding here and it was awful. She looked beautiful but the staff was very rude, not helpful, and treated everyone like they were a nuisance. First, we arrived and in trying to help my sister into her dress I was pushed out of the way by this woman who stated she was in charge of the bride. I don't care who you are you shouldn't even be in there while she's getting ready. Then, the cocktail hour for the wedding party was terrible. We didn't have half of the food the rest of the guests did. She also got married on the hottest day of the year and we were melting and we couldn't even get them to refill the water pitcher for us. Then we went inside and upstairs to wait to be introduced. While I was standing, crammed into the 15x15 room with 15 other people from the bridal party I noticed the place cards were upstairs in the bridal suite but none of the names belonged to the bridal party. I immediately went downstairs where I found the person in charge, Brian. I told him that none of the bridal parties names were the cards upstairs and he said "well we didn't have instructions for that". I told him if they weren't instructed on it that they shouldn't have been brought up there. I told him that those needed to come downstairs for the guests to know where they were to be seated and he stated that the bridal parties needed to be separated first as the incoming guests grabbed theirs. I said I don't care about the bridal party, the guests need to know where to sit. He was rude and snapped at me. Then during the salad course, gorgonzola was on the salad. I was sitting with 3 women who are pregnant and they cannot have cheese. Our waiter was notified and the second time brought out salads with feta on them. A third time salad was brought out and that last time the waiter gave us the middle finger as he was walking away. The food was awful, my husband got really sick on the fish and spent a good 45 minutes in the bathroom. My prime rib had 2 little pieces of meat and the rest was all fat. The tux rental bags from the groomsmen had been left upstairs in the bridal suite and some of them had been moved so at the end of the night there was chaos in trying to find them, and once again the man in charge was a jerk and said that this was not his problem and wouldn't help look. Lastly, my sister's centerpieces were delivered by the florist and the boxes for them had been left. At the end of the night there were no boxes, the staff would not help us package them and cleaned up around us, moving our things and putting them on the floor so they could take tablecloths off of the tables. They didn't help package anything or help bring anything to vehicles. This should not have been the bride and groom's responsibility. In closing, the staff is very unprofessional, the food was a 1/5 and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I really hate to do this after having so many great experiences with Anthony's off site catering but I need to vent. I usually use Anthony's two to three times a year to cater various events I host. As of late I feel they really have been declining on various levels. The stuffed filet of sole that tasted a bit frostbite to the raw stuffed bread. Well I decided to order the fried seafood platter for Christmas Eve this time and ordered a small which they said would feed 8-10. When opened you could see the bottoms and we counted a total of 4 pieces of fish and 5 shrimp. Really Anthony's this barely feed 4 people and which left me scrambling to find something else to serve with 30 minutes before my guests arrival. Then I opened the stuffed clams which looked raw and never cooked. I threw them in the oven in a effort to get some sort of coloring on them which did not happen. I guess you get what you pay for in regards to the 35% off catering and I will be paying full price in future at another establishment if it means I get good quality food. read more

Impatiens flowers were beautiful, sunset was great, aIr conditioning worked well. Had to stand during the ceremony on the beach. Found out from the parents that the seats on the beach for the ceremony were only provided for 1/2 the guests and if you wanted more you had to pay FIVE DOLLARS a chair. What a joke and a rip off. Put all the chairs out people pay good money to come here there guests should have chairs not have to pay extra. I tried the champagne during the toast to the bride and groom, didn't finish it went to congratulate them and when I came back champagne was gone. Meal was good if I had a chance to finish it. Chicken was hot, potatoes cold. A good song came on and I got up to dance to it and when I came back my plate had been removed off the table. I wasn't even close to finishing. It was like the staff was trying to clean up early on to get out early at the end. The staff kept leaving the folding serving stands in the middle of the floor so if you turned around to walk you would trip over it because there were no platters of food or dishes on it to let you know the folding serving stand was left there. The "little man" that they talked about in other reviews was a real creepy weazly guy who would come up to you when you least expect it and startle you. Didn't know the venetian (dessert) time was in the hallway and as I went to get some the staff took the tray away right in front of me and there was still a half hour till the wedding was over. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place !! I love the fact that it's located right next to the water . The view is amazing and my boyfriend and I would go here sometimes just to relax and see the view of down town New Haven , and the beautiful lights. read more

The venue was great,the food was great and the beach atmosphere wonderful.However, the wait staff was not the best.Plates were cleared before one was even finished, wine glasses, still half full ,were whisked away, chairs were removed, tables dismantled, and even walls broken down before guests, still on the dance floor,could even remove their personal belongings!!from the backs of chairs. Strangely enough I had a very expensive camera DISAPPEAR from the back of my chair...To add insult to injury the lack off assistance in helping me find the camera was inexcusable...I firmly believe a member of the waitstaff Helped Themself to my camera and my irreplaceable pictures...The manager Mr Furnari addressed my complaint by telling me he would be happy to send me a copy of the contract the bride and groom sign saying Anthony's is NOT responsible for personal items lost/stolen at their facility! Customer Service Lousy....Don't leave Any Personal Belongings Unattended .........Unfortunately I would not recommend this venue due to all of the above and Better Business Bureau has been notified.So violated ! read more
