Anthony's Barbershop is the best in the Algonquln area. Reminds me of Floyd's barbershop. Anthony the owner always has great stories. He's got his pulse on the community and lives in town. I would suggest supporting him. read more

This guy should open up a butcher shop because that's basically what he did to my hair. Was already hesitant about going here should have trusted my gut. Takes absolutely no time to cut your hair. Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service. Walked in with my boyfriend and his nephew, Gavin, wanting to get Gavin a haircut. Gavin's hair is pretty long at the moment (down to his shoulders) but Gavin really was ready for a change and wanted a nice short cut. We walk in, and Anthony at Anthony's Barber Shop says "Is that the one I'm cutting?" We said "Yes sir, he's wanting a nice fade" He then shrugs his shoulders and huffs and puffs and replies "Alright". We ask "is that okay?" And he had the nerve to shake his head and says "Gonna have to be" We told him we are NOT staying and yet he continued to try and recommend barber shops elsewhere. Do NOT waste your time on this barber shop. Absolutely AWFUL experience. read more

Worst service I've ever gotten, rolled his eyes that my nephew wanted a hair cut and I asked if it's okay for him to have his haircut here and he replied "I guess it'll have to be". Needless to say we left and I let him know that he has terrible service and he's very disrespectful. This is the old style barber shop that we are all looking for. I have been searching far and wide for a place like this, and it was a mile down the road from me. No gimicks, nothing off the wall, just a good ol fashioned barber shop. Anthony is great! Friendly, and does a great job. They also have the hot shaving cream for the neck, which is the best thing about getting your hair cut at a barbershop. I have only been twice, but I am sold.. I am trying to get this straight based on some of the other reviews.... This is a barber shop that caters to men. I have been going here for 10 years and have loved every haircut and many times have had my son's with me and he has done a great job on their hair. My 16 year old will not go to anyone else. Face it.... If you have an 'adults night out' and go hang out at Chuck E Cheese then wonder why you get strange looks from the employees then YOU are the issue. If you are bringing your young kids to get a haircut then perhaps go to a place that has video games and coloring books and charges you $30 for a kids haircut, if you want a good haircut for you son at half the price, bring him to Anthony's. read more

Went here for the first time. Was excited as my kids have been wanting new styles and have been very particular. From the start owner and lady who worked there were rude when we came in. The lady had no personality and when my kid was trying to tell her what he wanted she didn't look real interested. His cut was average and his lines were all messed up. One side was longer and thicker . Owner did my other boys hair and was border rude and sarcastic to him when he was telling him what he wanted. Overall not the place for us. read more

In fact, being totally honest I have been putting off updating this review for quite a while. Anthony was a decent guy fro the 1st couple of visits (one solo trip and one with my two boys) but since then my repeated trips have been more disappointing than the illiterate guy who shows up on a lonely Friday night trying to max his credit line at the warehouse . . . now see that joke should go over great in a barbershop (not in a review necessarily but it draws the point - wait for it it's coming). You have to ask yourself as a business owner (especially in tight economic times): "Why should some schmuck hand over his sheckles to me vs. anywhere else?" With my first visits the ambiance was fantastic - old sports memorabilia, great old MAD magazines for the folks waiting to read, popcorn maker, etc. I think more than anything else I was overly wowed by that than anything else. Moving to the smaller location because rent was too much (hint: when you offer so little and do it as you do any rent becomes too much) a block down did not take the ambiance factor away considerably . . . though I don't care how well you dress up a pig - it's still a pig. Let me be clear - it LOOKS like a fantastic shop, but with customer service like that of drunken Exxon ship captain towards penguins and the personality of the floating remains that are left behind after the crash . . . well . . . you get the picture. It is supposed to be a barbershop - you offer haircuts and what should be the old school classic feel that I espoused in previous reviews . . . unfortunately what it is is a haircut (on par with a simple bo rics cut) with an experience that comes off as pretentious, self inflated, shallow, and unsatisfying. Sorry folks, it just doesn't measure up to what it promises . . . no one was more disappointed than myself. What broke my back and finally made me write this review . . . well that will have to be antihero review. But it's nice to know that there is still a bastions of manhood out there that actually does measure up. Update: As to the reference to being family friendly here from my previous review let me correct myself. It doesn't have girly mags out of anything but kids really are NOT welcome there from my experiences. As a father of two great boys and had high hopes I am truly disappointed that this was not what it did offer. read more

I have been going to Anthony's for approximately 15 years. It has a small town atmosphere, which I like, that is reasonably priced withquality results. Anthony and Melissa are very professional and they care about each & every customer. I have never had a bad haircut from either and I have never seen or heard a disgruntled customer or word. I understand Anthony does a lot of volunteer charity work in his community & church. I would highly recommend Anthony's. read more

I have never met an owner who was so ridiculously rude to all 6 of us that walked in. Keep in mind two of the 6 people were ages 5 and under. One of the children needed a fresh cut and I have never seen someone so rough while cutting a child's hair. All of us adults were trying to help by telling the child to sit still and the owner looks at every one of us with a disgusting look on his face and says "I have been doing this for 30 years I know what I'm doing". Well, someone who has been doing something for so long should know how to treat their customers, especially children. He gave all of us very rude and disgusting attitude. I could not wait to leave. We all came in originally wanting both Childrens hair cut but we wanted to get out immediately after the first child was done. We went somewhere else for the second child. This place should receive zero attention because who ever this guy was, he was a major jerk off to our family as first time customers. 0 stars. Absolute waste of time & money. Very rude, Ill mannered and ugly hair cuts. Anthony has to get time and value for this customers. I wanted to get out of the salon, right from the moment I got in after observing his bad attitude and behavior towards his other customers. I've been going to Anthony's for over five years now and have found it to be a great place for a haircut and conversation. I would not go anywhere else as you don't have many barbershops around to get a good cut. Anthony is well connected to the community and his church - he loves helping the underprivileged - for that he deserves respect. He can come off a bit brash but that is part of the atmosphere and what makes it enjoyable to go there. read more

I have a 16 month old son and decided I'd like to take him to a Barber to get his hair cut. I picked Anthony's to try and called first to be sure they cut kids hair. They do. Great! I brought my son in on a Tuesday afternoon, there was nobody else there, and they turned us away. They explained that they only cut kids hair if their Father is a customer. Ok, so it sounds like they never intended to cut kids hair but then customers started bringing their kids, so they make an exception, but still. They turned away a paying customer and that just boggles my mind. I give them 2 stars based on the fact thatwe came for a hair cut and refused us. I have no idea how well they cut hair since we never got that far. They may be wonderful, I am just rating them based on my experience. read more
