Latest update. 5stars! As mentioned earlier Scott did my hair this time and I am extremely pleased. The time he took, questions he asked, it made it all perfect. I think key to coming to any new barbershop is communication. Just be specific with what you want and how you want it, hell pictures probably help too. I think Rick and Scott are great guys! As a man, I have been searching for a place to get a great cut. In my experience, salons just dont do it. You get what you pay for with a chain cuttery. After too many awful cuts, someone suggested going to a barber, and why not? A place that cuts men's hair? Not sure why I never thought about it. This place is amazing. Classic style shop inside, no bs, just a really awesome cut. Rick and Scott do an amazing job and will talk you through what you want to accomplish and how you want it to look. They will cut it with a goal of long term success with your perfect cut in mind. Old school razor for the neck, and a light massage on the shoulders to end it. All for $17!! I'm new to the Algonquin area and I was looking for a new barber shop. I got to say this shop is very nice. I love the barber decor and vintage cash register. I called and talk to owner prior to coming in about the style I was looking for; moreover, I stopped by and explained in detail how I wanted my hair and beard cut. When I came in the next day the hair cut was horrible. I didn't receive a sharp lining nor was my beard lined. The barber toward me that was the best he could do. Nothing was done to satisfaction. I will not be back. Amateur barbers should be cutting new customers. Thanks for your comments and feedback. Everyone don't have the same hair and style. I was so ready to leave the shop with my bad experience because you nor Rick listened to my needs. Rick tried to cut my hair based upon his customer base not my needs, type of style, or hair. I asked for my hair to be blinded together that didn't happen. I asked for a clipper lining (not a razor lining) that didn't happen. He didn't take his time to get to know my style he rushed me out the door because of appointments. 20 minutes for a hair with my style doesn't fly. I told you (Scott) I wanted a lining around my Chinstrap and mustache and you were to busy so I got Rick. Yelp allows me to voice my opinion and that's what I did so others know MY experience that doesn't mean their experience will be the same. You want to set this right, your a 30 year vet Barber. I had the displeasure of losing my barber who trimmed my beard expertly over the past 30 years to a double hip replacement. I did not believe I could find a shop to replace her. Today I visited a small but very clean upbeat and old time feeling barbershop in downtown Algonquin. What a pleasure it was to find a young proprietor that was eager to earn my business by providing a 'as good as' haircut and beard trim as my previous barber!! Excellent cut and friendly service in a comfortable barber shop setting for $15 plus tip. Scott was pleasant to interact with and, while there are only two chairs in the whole shop, it's plenty big enough to feel comfortable while waiting. I felt like I got great service from a pro barber and I like the way my cut turned out. They also offer free neck maintenance in between cuts and a discount card that gets you your tenth haircut for free. I've been many times and had great haircuts by Scott and would give 5 stars for those visits but today I phoned up to ask when they closed. It is advertised as 4pm on Saturdays but they said 3:30 so I left what I was doing, rushed to get there before 3:30 and got there at 3:10 only to be told by Rick that he wasn't taking any more customers. Thanks for causing me to leave the event I was at unnecessarily early and wasting my time. This is no way to treat customers, especially those who have been regulars for 2 years. It is one thing to be able to be able to do great haircuts but if you cannot deliver them during your advertised opening hours then I'll have to find somewhere that can do both. read more
