I waited until there were no customers around and signaled to the woman working that the cheesecake was, in fact, moldy and I didn't know what else in that case might have gone bad. She took it and threw it away. My food came out about ten minutes later, and it took me about 15 minutes to eat. I was sat pretty close to that fridge and in 35 minutes, neither she nor any of the staff went to check the food. That's concerning to me because I brought it to their attention that there was visible mold on one of the cherry cheesecakes, and there were at least ten other cherry cheesecakes in that refrigerator, plus other desserts and other things that could get people sick. To her credit, when I told her I didn't feel safe eating the produce and would like her to refund my salad because I didn't want it, she did so without complaint, and the Sicilian slice was good as always. But I don't feel great about eating at a place where, again, it's not even the fact that there was mold. Stuff happens. It's that they let so much time go by once it was brought to their attention. As an Italian heritage family this has been a source of pride. However over the past couple of years we have taken to trusting the team at Carmelina's to provide food for a number of events. Yesterday was the largest as we catered an engagement party for over 130 people at the Masury in Center Moriches. The food was top notch (chicken parm, eggplant rollatini, chicken franchese, meatballs and garlic knots to go with homemade lasagna and sausage). Delivery was prompt and efficient and the price was more than fair. Thank you again.
