I don't understand the lack of love for Izzi Coiffure here on Yelp. Then again, I do. This salon is not for everyone. If you're expecting a long, "pampering" hair experience, then go elsewhere. This staff truly works as a team, and you may have several stylists working on your tresses at different times due to the small space and large clientele. But the process is quick and you will always look fantastic when you leave. Having gone there several times now, I doubt I will go anywhere else in Pittsburgh to get my hair done. They go above and beyond my "four-point tomboy checklist for beauty". Point 1. They are QUICK. Both Anthony and Lori are bayalage experts. Bayalage means the color is hand painted (or "swept' for you linguists). No foils, no caps. It's amazingly fast and looks very natural. Point 2. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing when it comes to beauty. Thankfully, the lovely people at Izzi do! I tell them what my concerns/hopes are for my pathetic hair, and they actually tell me what they think. Point 3. I always leave happy. I understand how others may be uneasy going through a salon "assembly line", but I find that their team effort only improves the quality of their work. Anthony and Lori are always checking up on each other and their assistants. Point 4. They have an awesome schedule. They work around their busy clients, and not the other way around. The good folks at Izzi Coiffure have early (we're talking 6 am!) and late hours, weekends included. They are closed on Tuesdays. Moreover, you can schedule via phone, text, or email. So convenient. Overall, I am happy to say that I have found my permanent stylist(s). They have specials for new clients, so definitely give Izzi Coiffure a try! read more

Meh. Would not recommend. There's a not so pleasant vibe among everyone that works there, although some of the employees were very nice. The dude comes across pretty arrogant. It's the worst cut and color I have ever had and it's done in a bizarre assembly line method. read more

I was referred to Jen at Anthony Izzi (fka Izzi Coiffure) from a friend and Jen has been great over the course of a handful of visits where I've gotten cuts and color via bayalage. Jen gets you in and out in a timely manner - my last appointment with cut and color was about over an hour which is amazing because my hair is dark and to lighten it has taken forever at other salons. Anthony Izzi has two locations where the stylists split their time - one in Shadyside and another in Aspinwall - and seem to focus on early morning/morning/early afternoon appointments. Funnily enough with both locations you have to walk up some stairs. You can set up appointments via text and note they do not accept credit card so either bring cash or check or both. Their prices are reasonable too. Anthony Izzi seems to have their own product line and while the product has been used on my hair and smells wonderful I have not purchased any and they have not pushed me to buy any which I think is great. read more

Anthony colored my hair for the four years that I lived in Pittsburgh and I keenly miss his expert balayage. I've been to four industry color experts in both the Phoenix and Portland metropolitan areas, and no one has ever managed to replicate the light, baby blonde balayage that Anthony was able to achieve on my dark brown hair. Clearly, Anthony's training in Paris is the difference. His balayage highlights always look natural but still bright, and never warm or brassy. My hair grew long and healthy due to the gentleness of the technique and the friendlier grow-out that balayage offers over foil highlights. The icing on the cake is that Anthony operates his salons under the awareness that women are busy and don't want to spend 3-4 hours at the salon. His technique is swift but skillful, and I always appreciated that he respected my time but that I still left looking like a million bucks. He allows you to make appointments via text, and offers early morning appointments so you don't have to miss work to get your hair done. read more

Jen is amazing- I love their early hours and gorgeous balayage. I have had keratin treatments that don't last too long for me but do make life easier while they last. And recently had a big (for me) cut and I LOVE it. Not a salon where you get a lot of pampering and head massaging, if that is what you like; they are usually busy and move people along quickly (I much prefer the Aspinwall location as it is waaay more quiet and calm). read more

French Coiffures Michael and Anthony offer a "unique" hair experience. I sucked up the $50 per cut price tag (tips not accepted) and left my hair to their sheers. First, they were running a half hour late (not so bad). Then my hair was hacked. I really mean hacked, there is nothing natural about such a shattered cut (especially after the first wash). Finally, Michael cut my hair while simultaneously working on two other clients; which left the wash, dry and everything else to the overworked staff. Overall, totally unimpressive. Go to Sean @ Lewis' down the street instead. La fin! read more

Meh, is right. This salon came recommended to me from a friend so I had high hopes but was not impressed and never went back. First off, I think its very odd customer service to set up your appointment via text, after several phone call attempts. Second of all, I was the only person in the salon on a Saturday morning and the stylist who eventually cut my hair was "too busy" to wash and blow dry my hair? Hmm. Nearly the entire time I was in the chair the stylist was chatting it up with the washer/dryer guy - I think that's sort of rude. The cut was ok - I've definitely had better. The dude who blow dried my hair reeked of cigarette smoke and used the weirdest technique to dry my hair - supposedly some fancy french thing. Also, they only accept cash or check. The only reason I give it two stars is because the cut wasn't horrific :) read more

I was referred to Izzi Coiffure by a relative who happens to change hair stylists quite often, so I wasn't too sure how it would work out. But I gave it a go and wow am I glad I did! I have been a customer for over a year. I travel over 2 hours to have my hair cut and colored by Anthony. I refuse to let anyone else touch a strand! On my first appointment he took a look at my features, jawline, etc..., suggested what he would like to do and asked what I thought -I wanted a flattering new look, but also wanted to see if he had vision, unlike most salons I'd been to that are no help when a client wants something flattering, but perhaps needs some guidance. After coloring, using the balayage technique - which at first I thought, holy cow this guy is speeding through my hair so fast it's going to look awful - but after rinsing, cutting and a beautiful blowout all I can say is BRAVO! The highlights fell just so, and my roots were a misery no more. Every time I am there Anthony is fast, yet attentive to the client, easy to work with, and makes you look fabulous! He doesn't push his own line of products (which are awesome by the way!), or overload your hair with goop. I always leave the salon feeling happier with bouncy beautiful hair. As a blonde, finding the right shade while still managing to gracefully allude the dreaded roots is a challenge unto itself - but with Anthony at the helm I can go as long as 2 1/2 months before I need retouching. He is truly a gem in Pittsburgh! Not to mention sitting in a little boutique-style salon while watching fashions shows on iPads adds a touch a fun. THANK YOU ANTHONY! read more

i used a social media coupon (maybe a groupon, I can't remember) and visited the Aspinwall location. I was very pleased with the cut, the coloring, and the "deal." I liked the stylist, Jenn, and she was the only one to work on my hair, and I did not at all feel rushed as some others report. I paid $40 for the "deal" which was half price. I'm used to paying at least $120 for cut, color and highlights at another salon - so when I returned for my 2nd appointment (this time in the Shadyside salon), paying only $80 (full price) for the same services was very appealing. Again, it was Jenn who worked on my hair and she did the full service - no switching off, as reported in previous reviews. I will definitely continue to use this salon (prefer the Aspinwall location) if each session is as pleasant and the result as satisfactory as my first 2 visits - ESPECIALLY with the price being so much more reasonable than I am used to. I'm never written an online comment about service before but since my experience was so different than others here, I thought it would be fair to add my account of my experiences. read more

I first came to the Shadyside location about a year ago and was lured in by the $80 balayage special. Initial thoughts, very small and cramped with no seating for guests. Clients came in and were sitting on the steps because there were no chairs available to sit in! Fast forward, the first time Anthony did my hair... it looked very blonde and good but, extremely dry and over processed. Nevertheless, I guess worth the $80( I always tip all assistants, $20 a piece... even the ones that spent 5 min on my hair). I went back about 3-4 additional times and noticed his work seemed to get sloppier and sloppier. I noticed noticed more and more it was looking worse and for nearly $160, I expected better. The last time I went, I noticed it looked very dark and actually bad but, thought maybe it's just me. Well, I realized it must have looked pretty bad when my mom, sister, fiancé said, " where did you have your hair done last, it looks bad". When I told them it was the same person, they couldn't believe it! I texted the salon almost 3 weeks later and explained that it wasn't light enough. The assistant immediately got very rude with me and said, it was very blonde when you left and why did you wait so long? I explained it wasn't light at all and after numerous comments I wasn't happy. I guess she assumed I wanted him to do a redo for free, like she said. I told her, I'll pay again but, I want it blonde! Well, guess what? She blocked me!!! How unprofessional and rude! Not to mention, they took a video of me to use the first time I went to the salon and posted it all over Facebook without my consent!! They received plenty of views 67,000 and likes and then treat me like this! read more

I have been a client at Izzi Coiffure for seven years. Before settling at Izzi's I spent a year and a half trying various stylists at popular Pittsburgh hair salons and did not find any that could work with my admittedly difficult hair, as well as Anthony. I love the hustle and bustle of the small salon and am particularly grateful for the flexible schedule. Anthony's advice on cuts and color have always been spot on, whether I have wanted to grow my hair out and donate it or have gotten bored and wanted something cute and short. Sometimes I have requested styles that are too complex/too time consuming for my hair styling skills and Anthony gently and wisely counseled me to reconsider, as well as offered me variations of what I thought I wanted. At the end of the day it was always clear that choice was mine, he would do what I wanted even if he knew I would not be happy with what I chose. I have always chosen to listen to his advice and have always been happy with the results. Although I have not had to, I know that if I did not like my cut or color I could call Anthony and he would fix it. Anthony's ultimate goal is for you to feel beautiful and confident when you leave his salon. Besides the amazing cuts and colors I have gotten over the past seven years and the flexible schedule, I also love and highly recommend Anthony's line of hair products.
