I honestly can't say enough good things about the salon and the people who run it! I have been going to Jeff (owner) for quite some time now and I can honestly say I've never had a better haircut "experience" in my life. By experience I mean not only the amazing quality of his men's cuts, but the fact that he is so darn meticulous and almost OCD (in a good way!) about cutting hair. I have been to many stylists in my life who can cut hair "good" but always seem rushed, like you are a nuisance and preventing more money they could be making. The amount of thought and work he puts into catering to every clients specific needs and personality style is amazing. Additionally, Jeff is truly a great and genuine guy who genuinely gets to know his clientele on a meaningful level, never making one feel like he's trying to make pointless small talk (something many other stylists I've been to rely heavily on and makes it seem more transactional than truly client based). I have in the past months moved to Nashville away from my home in Pittsburgh, and next to family, the one thing I miss most is the rejuvenating and confidence boosting experience it was walking out of Nadia Salon each appointment. After years of not getting my hair cut professionally I finally put my trust in Jeff.. A few months ago he did my first cut beautifully. Today I come home to so much hair gone, not even asked or said anything until he finished. Then when I straighten it to see how he did with the cut I burst into tears. I've been going to Jeff at Nadia for 20 years! I swear by him! In all the years he's cut, and colored my hair I have never had 1 bad thing to say about my hair afterward. I try straying away every once in awhile if I'm working out of town or have been away for awhile... it never works out. I've had 3 sessions in going from darkest brown... to blonde and he's done a great job. The only thing I wish was different was using Olaplex for preventing damage while bleaching. I've never used Olaplex but I've watched videos and read great reviews on how it really does work for keeping hair healthy. BUT I'll still always go to Nadia Salon and have Jeff cut/color me. It will be worth your time and money to try them out! read more

I hate my haircut. I went in with a photo of exactly what I want. I said I want the back to be cut straight across, not shaped in a semicircle, but straight. He then asked, "In a point?" "No, straight across" I answered. I should have walked out then but I was so eager to have my hair cut and he came highly recommended, I sat down. I showed him a photo of a shag haircut and said I need height at the crown of my head. It showed hair that was cut as short in the back as the front, with fine layers, and straight across at the bottom, exactly what I wanted. I came out with short hair on the top front of my head (I stopped him before he gave me thick bangs). It's short in the front and sides and long in the back, rounded of course, not straight. I then noticed one half of my hair, as if there was a line from the front of my head to the back, is three inches shorter than the left. I hate my hair cut. I'll never go back. read more

It really saddens me to be writing such a poor review about Nadia's, but the truth needs to come out. Skip to the middle if you don't want to read the story. I first came to this salon because I botched my own hair trying to bleach it myself. The guy who fixed my hair did a phenomenal job. He bleached it, toned it, and finally cut it - and it looked exactly like I wanted. Even though some of my hair had burned off at the top, he assured me that it would grow back, and gave me specific instructions to deep condition it and never bleach it myself again. The service I received was so great that I fell in love with the place and decided to come back again to do my roots in a couple weeks. HOWEVER, when I came back a couple weeks later to get my roots done, I had a completely different experience. I had a different stylist this time (who I won't name), and the bleach he used not only burned off my hair, but BURNED MY SCALP. Now, I understand that different people have different reactions to bleach. But at this point I had used bleach many times (both by myself and professionally) and I had never had such a terrifyingly painful experience with bleach. It felt as though my scalp was on fire. When rinsing out my hair and applying toner, I was in such pain that my eyes were watering, and my stylist actually YELLED AT ME. He literally threw up his hands, and said, "You know what? You gotta go home." He then washed out the toner and proceeded to cut my hair, and snapped at me, "Yep, it's ALL YELLOW," as if it were my fault that my hair didn't lift. A day later, my hair completely burned off. The ends actually snapped off from the bleach that my stylist had used. Not only that, but my scalp was covered with scabs. I was crying because my scalp was so painful. My boyfriend was extremely angry and wanted me to write a review, which I should have done a long time ago. It's been four months since this incident. Since then, I've gone to a different salon that actually fixed my hair slowly by deep conditioning it. I still get my hair bleached every few weeks, and the bleach has never bothered me (like it shouldn't). My new salon confirmed that Nadia's had chemically burned my scalp, and they were mortified to see the condition of my hair. My hair is in slow recovery, and I was very lucky to have a found a new salon that excelled in both professionalism and customer service. [ TL;DR, SKIP TO HERE ] I'm not shit talking this salon. I admire the work and integrity of several of the employees, including the woman who works at the front desk, and the sweet lady who applied the bleach. The owner himself is a nice guy, and it saddens me to write this kind of review about his business. As much as I'd like to thank him and his other employees for their excellent service, this review will remain the way it is because of the horrendous attitude one of his stylists had demonstrated. I'm not angry that the bleach didn't work - that was a very unfortunate experience that I think might have been the result of the salon using a new brand of bleach (because as I've said, I have never, and never had again, experienced that kind of pain while using bleach). I'm angry because the stylist who worked with me was SO INCREDIBLY RUDE. Not only did he not apologize for the state of my burned scalp and hair, he actually BLAMED me for what had happened. Even now, I am absolutely baffled at the stylist's behavior. He actively made this the worst salon experience of my entire life. I didn't write this review to tell anyone not to come here. I'm new to Pittsburgh and I was looking for a place to cut my bangs because I don't need a full haircut yet. I spoke with a nasty gentleman on the phone and he proceeded to tell me I shouldn't expect a free bang trim, when all I did was ask him the price. Let me make that perfectly clear, all I did was ask the price. He thought I sounded upset by the price, but I wasn't and didn't appreciate his tone. He then hung up on me. I called back to tell him I wouldn't go there after his treatment of me over the phone and he YELLED at me on the phone telling me I was rude for asking for a free haircut. Which I certainly did not and I don't understand why he thought he should repeat that multiple times to me, I was more than happy to pay and go back there once I needed a full haircut. Have you ever seen Tabitha's Salon Takeover on Bravo TV? Well, I'm nominating this place to be on the show. This place was D-I-R-T-Y. Before combing my hair, they actually pulled hair out of the comb. This should have been my cue to leave, wet hair and all. I decided to stick it out and although my haircut was ok (nothing special), I couldn't get over the dirtiness of the salon! There was hair stuck to the chairs, hair in the drawers, hair in the combs, and hair balls under the cutting stations. Gross. Also, I'm no stylist, so I don't know if the cutting utensils should have been soaking in those sanitizing jars. However, I'm sure the scissors and razors sitting in the dirty drawers weren't exactly sanitary. While I'm not sure the haircut alone would warrant me coming back here, the lack of cleanliness at this salon definitely sealed the deal for me on not coming back. read more

Though my haircut wasn't terrible, I won't be back here. It just doesn't live up to standards that I am used to in a nice salon. I've certainly been to worse. My appointment started about 30 minutes late, which stinks. I was about ready to walk out of the place, and then finally was available.There's one couch to sit on and wait. Not a huge deal, but I imagine it could get uncomfortable if there were more people waiting. The atmosphere looks amazing in photos, but feels not-so-great in person. The overhead lights are fluorescent and cold/sterile. There was some guy going around painting or something. The owner was shouting across the room at the other stylists and the painter guy - and had a bit of a rougher personality. It wasn't calming. My stylist, Anthony, was a pretty nice guy. Not quite what I was expecting, for some reason. We made some small-talk, and he seemed to take his time and was detailed for the most part. However, I didn't quite end up with the cut that I wanted despite what I thought were clear directions - the back of my hair ended up pretty clean/ cropped, rather than fringes. It wasn't botched or bad - just not what I wanted. Granted, I didn't even know that until I got home because he never showed me in the mirror. Then, when it came time to pay, they charged $40 instead of $33 like I had been told on the phone. I could have haggled or said something, but my mind was already made up that this was a 2-star place and I wouldn't be coming back, so I just payed it. I recently moved to Pittsburgh, and after having a horrible experience at White House, I was looking for a better salon. I found Nadia on here and I could not have been happier with my experience there. It was my first time dying my hair, and I didn't want to do anything drastic, just cover up some grays. Jayne listened to what I wanted and talked to me for a while before even starting on my hair. She was so incredibly friendly and really knew what she was talking about, which put me at ease immediately. When she was finished with my hair, it was EXACTLY what I wanted. As most salons, this is full of artists, keeping that in mind, this salon is great. The front desk staff is so-so. John is my stylist and is an absolute magician. Not only does he not make you get services you would otherwise not need, he is one of the best stylists I have ever had. Not sure about the other stylists, but they all seem to have a following of their own, so would imagine they are great as well. Come here to Nadia to see Jayne when you need a hair color miracle!!!! I went to another salon in Squirrel Hill, very upscale & organic - and they ruined my hair color. They dyed it completely the wrong color despite having my exact formula. There was suddenly this extremely dark auburn stripe in the middle of my platinum blonde hair. Every attempt they made to fix it made it worse. I was heartbroken and after calling around, found Nadia Salon. I scheduled a consultation on Wednesday evening with Jayne, she told me she could fix it. And yes! I have been going to Jeffrey for maybe 5 years now for cut and highlights and have never been happier. His cuts are flawlessly consistent, color is perfection (never once the brassy blond I've always struggled with), he is always on-time, love the reminder calls from Nadia, and the location is a breeze. Always parked in the public lot behind the salon with ease. And they are fabulous about following mask rules during Covid, which I truly appreciate. But above all? I never leave there feeling like I have "soccer mom" hair. Can not possibly recommend him more. read more

I came here after being given a completely hideous mom cut at another "high end" salon, and I'm so glad I did! Before I mention more, I should say there is a ATM as soon as you open the door and walk up the stairs to the salon, which is very handy so that you can tip your stylist in cash if you so desire. Although my usual salon preference is quite girly, the place where you can sip wine and feel pampered, this place is my exception. It isn't a place you really go for all of that stuff, it has almost a barber feel as far as the customer service, but it's not a bad thing. The salon is beautiful, and the stylists seem to have a good relationship with their clients as well as each other. Ok...on to the hair! So my stylist was Anthony, and I must say, the man can work miracles. My hair was a mess from my last cut, and he was able to give me exactly what I wanted. I didn't have to explain to him 10 different times what I wanted, he just got it. When I first sat in his chair, he took a good few minutes asking me what I wanted, and then really took his time feeling my hair texture, looking at how it laid and so forth before we even took me to the shampoo chair. He was very easy to talk to, although I would recommend him even if you like someone you can go to that you don't necessarily want to have a conversation with. I say this because as he was cutting my hair, I was so relaxed, I nearly fell asleep. He didn't say much unless I did, he was totally in "the zone," and it wasn't at all awkward. He really took his time and I saw him constantly checking over his work, making sure all pieces laid right and were cut evenly. The man can do a great bob! I don't like to be girlie very often. But there are 2 things about me that make me particularly "girly", my secret obsession with shoes and people messing with my hair. I'm a freak about my hair. I've gotten in cut in San Diego more times in the past 5 years than...well really it's self cutting and san diego that keep my hair in check. Unfortunately it's been awhile since I've had the time to fly out there. So I've consented to going to Pgh salons. This has NEVER worked out for me. I've left 2 salons in the past year with tears in my eyes wondering why I continue to do this to myself. But alas, now that I have bangs, self cutting is not really an option. So I researched the shit out of every salon in this city. I've heard things about Deans and of course MCN, but I always felt skeptical about Deans and MCN is more suited to desperate housewives rather than a bartender. Then came Nadia Salon. Nadia looked like a no nonsense, no frills, tastefully professional kind of place. This is what I love! I just want my hair done, I don't want ridiculous tag lines, or silly half truths about qualifications, European buzz words, and plethora of other services to take away from the one thing I only care about - my hair. The atmosphere of the salon is gorgeous. It's clean cut, not overly stylized or busy. The staff is smaller compared to other Pgh salons, thankfully, so when I made an appointment I knew that any of the 5 stylist were well qualified and professional. Anthony did an amazing job with my hair. He actually listened to me, and thought carefully about what hair color he would apply to my wild hair. He made my bangs look stunning and frame my face much better than past stylist (even the person who actually cut them). The color looked absolutely stunning as well. The prices are beyond reasonable for the service given. I'm so happy that I have finally found the salon for me. I would absolutely recommend this salon above all other ones in this city. No one in this salon is remotely professional besides the receptionist, Carrie. Every stylist will go outside to smoke a cigarette while you are waiting for color/blowdry/whatever. Expect your freshly cut hair to smell like cig smoke. In addition, the stylists cannot, for the life of them, be ON TIME or even remember who you are... It seems like the hair stylists are drunk at work everyday... Not kidding. No idea how this place stays in business. Everything down to the crappy interior design screams mediocre. read more

I went to this place because the web site looked so great. It took me 4 phone call to get an appointment but thought it would be worth the headache. I arrived to rock and roll music blasting. The hairdresser who did my cut and color really screwed up my hair. My color was bright orange at the roots and a different color on the rest. My hair was chopped so badly that my last 2 haircuts still have not fixed it. The hair dresser kept leaving me for a cigarette at least 4 times. 4 hours later left with a disaster. Terrible place. After a couple of visits, they take clients for granted and treat really poorly, disrespectfully, and do a really crappy job. They schedule multiple clients simultaneously for each hairdresser so you end up waiting much longer than you normally would. The quality of the service is horrible -you will be stained all over the place after color and they will not have stain remover! If you ask when they can attend you, you will receive either no resoonses and a very rude one. Instead of a licenced professional many times you will be handled by the receptionist too. They are greedy and shameless and do not understand the service business. If you want to pay too much for crappy service and be treated rude, go there! Many other better options nearby. read more

I came here after reading positive reviews on yelp, and was suprised to find probably the dirtiest salon I have ever been to. Empty beer bottles sitting around, and tons of hair on the floor that they were blowing around with a blow dryer. (I don't understand this, why not just sweep it up?) Also, some of the staff seem to have an attitude problem and seem more interested in talking amongst themselves rather than making customers feel welcomed. I LOVE Nadia Salon! I stumbled upon Nadia with it being on Walnut Street, and two blocks away from my home at the time. It's relatively expensive but you definitely pay for what you get - that being: excellent service, voluptuous perfected hair color and cut. I highly recommend Lee for your Balayge and Ombre needs! I have naturally very dark Asian-brown hair. I now have a very soft and very blonde ombe with balayge. I never would have gone so light if it weren't for Lee's expertise. Also he's a wizard with a round brush and a blowdryer! After the best hair color and specific haircut, he'll wand my hair using solely a round brush and dryer and it is AWESOME. I've since moved away, but when visiting friends in Pittsburgh you can guarantee I have Lee do my hair. read more

I showed the stylist a picture of what kind of hair I wanted and ended up getting something that is not even a tiny bit close to it (I had to take off my glasses so I couldn't see until he finished). I guess he just didn't know how to do it and decided to give me the most generic male cut you could imagine. And he didn't even do a good job on that which took him 50 mins to finish going back and forth about 20 times from scissors to faders. Why oh why oh why didn't I just start off my Pittsburgh haircare here? I've tried out a lot of other salons in the area - Whitehouse (color/cut disaster); Kelly Elaine (beautiful cut for curly hair but inconsistent and not my favorite for color); Isle of You (color disaster); Cercone (poor customer service and godawful cut) - but I've had nothing but good experiences at Nadia. I went to Anthony two years ago when I still lived in DC to fix a majorly botched cut/bang and he was perfect (gave me the exact zooey deschanel hair I wanted), but I've been hesitant to visit Shadyside salons since I've moved back to Pittsburgh due to prior bad experiences, feeling like you pay for location more than quality, and concern that I'll get Stepford-Wife hair (not my thing). But none of this could be further from the truth. Nadia was totally reasonable price-wise and Anthony really listened to what I wanted and took my hair from a total disaster to a rich, beautiful brunette. I'm seriously impressed with his color correction work. He took his time and was very careful to be gentle with my hair that had been way over-processed at another salon. And he was very honest with his own recommendations and telling me what I did/did not need. I really thought I was going to have to invest in a large hat collection after my salon disaster earlier this week so Anthony is pretty much my hero at the moment. Also, to address the earlier comments: Maybe Nadia cleaned up their act recently but I certainly didn't see anything dirty about it. Granted, I've been to other salons (ex: Whitehouse in Pittsburgh and most of the salons I frequented in DC) that were probably "prettier" - Nadia has a kind of minimalist, industrial aesthetic - but why anyone would judge a salon on the decor is beyond me (unless it makes the place just outright uncomfortable or maybe if you're only going for a blowout/care more about the experience than a great style). I walked into Nadia Salon one afternoon after Mint Salon on Ellsworth gave me the world's worst ombre. I asked if I might be able to make a color consultation appointment to get it fixed. Lee introduced himself and said he would be able to in a little bit. They were kinda busy so Lee gave me some cool books on hair color to browse while I waited. Shortly after, he sat me down in front of the mirror and validated my concerns about my hair color. I felt so relieved. He was super sweet and clearly knew what he was doing. We encountered some problems (my hair reacted strangely to the bleach and turned blue/green) but he was patient and determined to make it better, which he did. It was quite a process. I was there pretty much all day. But it was so so so worth it. I really can't thank Lee enough for making my hair look and feel a million times better! lee, you're my hero! Also, the vibe in that place is really cool and refreshing. It's got a rock n roll theme going on but still maintains an air of sophistication. He does great color, gives me haircuts that last months(I don't live in the area, I travel back) and is an amazing finisher(blow-dry). I cannot say enough about his abilities and this salon. I rarely write reviews, I just read them, but I felt compelled to let the Yelp world know what a true gem this place is! I guess you could say I'm a "young professional" who likes to look clean cut. I'm in my mid-30s and my hair is not my best quality - it's curly on top, wavy around the sides, with a bit of a receding hairline, which I guess can be a challenge to look good, which is why I have been through a fair share of stylists.....until I met Jayne! I've been going to Jayne for haircuts for 3 years now, and I know this sounds corny, but she truly has made a positive impact on my life, making me so much more confident in my appearance. Not only does she me make my hair look so fresh...so clean, she trims and lines my beard up to perfection (and every once in a while she'll clean up my eyebrows). From the reviving shampoo to start.... to the oldschool barbers talc she brushes on my neck to finish, it is truly an experience... every time. And that's not all, Jeff the owner is super cool, Gina the receptionist is always super friendly and attentive, and the rest of the staff always seems to be having fun...which is refreshing as the environment in most of the salons I've been too can be a bit awkward or pretentious at times. read more

I stumbled upon Nadia a few years ago when I wanted to chop off my long tresses for a funky pixie cut. I got Anthony who was friendly, funny and extremely talented, as well as easy on the eyes! He did a great job the first time and I've been going to him ever since my first cut. Now that I'm growing my hair out, he knows how to cut it so that it never grows into an awkward looking style. It's been a few months since my last cut and my hair is about chin length, so you might know how bad that could look, but with Anthony cuts, never. He's magic. My highlight and cut as well as the styling were excellent. And I was worried because I had changed my appointment to a different day. Apparently when I arrived, no one had alerted my stylist so we got quite a late start - like half an hour late. Another client came for her appointment so I waited a while longer than I probably would have had we started on time. I was there three hours for the highlight, cut and style! But, I can say that my cut and color and the styling tips I got were worth the extra time, plus they offer free beverages and piles of fashion magazines to pass the time.
