This review is long overdue! I had a secret wedding, so I didn't want to out myself. Well, now it's out. Having my face all done up actually makes me feel really insecure. I don't own or wear make-up, so for events, I have to go get it done. Oh, and I've had it DONE! Even with the compliments, I hated it because I didn't look like myself. It felt foreign and I would often feel quite uncomfortable. For my elopement ceremony last summer, I wanted to look like myself, except with better skin. I wanted to be comfortable with myself. I wanted to look natural and feel like myself on my wedding day (and also have my husband recognize me... that was also essential) I met Anny virtually and we connected in person when I had my trial. She has a great personality and we connected instantly. We talked about her dog Rambo and her spontaneous hair colors! I was able to tell her what I liked and what I would like tweaked. My eyelashes are non-existent and to have false ones put on felt foreign and strange. Anny reassured me that it just took some time getting used to and even suggested we use the individual lashes, so it wouldn't feel as heavy (that's what I went with) I am generally a very worrisome person; I worried about mascara running down my face, lashes falling off, or that my blush would fade etc. Guess what...?? I had the honor of having Anny Chow and Andy Tseng do my wedding makeup and hair in July 2021 and I could not recommend a better duo! From my very first email correspondence with Anny, I was refreshed with her promptness, efficiency, and professionalism, all while being kind and personable. I booked my makeup and hair trial to be on the day of my bridal shower so that I could look great for the shindig and it was a great decision. I tend to have a very natural to a no makeup look and find it challenging to find words to describe what I like and want. I brought a few images of what I wanted for both makeup and hair and Anny and Andy were great at talking them through with me. They asked me all the right questions to make sure that they understood what I liked and took the time to describe how a look would be on my skin type or my hair length. I really appreciated that they took the time to make sure we were all on the same page, because as it turned out there were tweeks that I wanted to change! After my trial, they made note of bringing down certain colors of makeup and also made the changes so that I could walk out of their studio feeling great for my bridal shower! I am a person that can have a hard time speaking up for what I want and am worried about hurting people feelings. Anny created the space with her professionalism and kindness so that saying that I wanted to change aspects of the look during my trial was the most normal and easy thing for me to do. Andy was the hair stylist for my wedding this summer. He did two different styles for me (switched on-site between the ceremony and reception). Both were absolutely perfect and exactly what I wanted- and that says a lot because I am quite picky! He also styled all of my bridesmaids and my mother and everyone looked incredible. I came to Anny after a disastrous trial with a different artist. I was very anxious since my wedding was less than a month away, and all the artists I contacted either took an extremely long time to return my messages, or were unwilling to make a firm commitment to my date in case more lucrative opportunities presented themselves. In contrast, Anny was easy to communicate with and perfectly willing to sign a contract. I'm so happy I chose Anny to prepare me for my wedding. Her personality is very easygoing and laidback, and I had great chemistry with her. During the trial she was able to grasp the look I was going for even when I struggled to define it (I don't wear makeup normally, so I don't have a lot of vocabulary or knowledge around it). The end result was like night and day compared to my first trial. I looked like an enhanced version of myself, which is what I was hoping for. When the big day came, Anny arrived promptly, worked quickly and efficiently even with my poor apartment lighting, and was just such a calming presence overall. They did my wedding hair and makeup, as well as hair and makeup for my entire wedding party (14 services total) in less than 6 hours, and everyone could not stop talking about how much they loved working with Anny and Andy, and how much they loved how they looked! I found Anny Chow Makeup and Hair only a few months before my wedding after my original artist cancelled on me (my wedding was postponed from 2020) and Anny and Andy were both swift communicators and extremely accommodating. They are worth every penny! I did my trial a few months before the wedding and was doted on for nearly 3 hours in their studio in Vancouver, and we were able to successfully put together the look that I wanted. My wedding reception lasted until midnight and honestly, I didn't take my hair down or remove my makeup until the next afternoon. Anny and her assistant, Andy, did my hair and airbrush makeup for my wedding last month and I could not have been more pleased. I wanted to look natural but radiant, and she definitely accomplished that. I have monolids and know from experience that many makeup artists will try to create a double eyelid where none exists. The result is often bizarre and unnatural. Anny instead worked with what nature and my mom gave me and enhanced my eyes without making me look like someone else. She also figured out what was wrong with my eyebrows and corrected their shape. I definitely recommend having a trial with Anny first, so you can get a feel for her style, and so you can go home and snap test pics. After my trial, I was very happy with my look, but I did send Anny a few comments and things to tweak (a lighter, pinker blush and a brighter complexion, but with no shimmer, a difficult feat!) which she completely took into consideration and implemented perfectly on the wedding day!
