Do not go to this place! I had a terrible experience. I asked for a regular $45 massage, but they charged me $95 for something I didn't even request. Despite the overcharge, I still paid the $95 just to avoid any issues. I was even trying to be courteous and leave a tip, but the woman became extremely rude--she literally locked the door and tried to force me to tip her, as if I was trying to run away without paying. Update: This is in response to the business' reply to my review. Like implied in my original post, this isn't my first time getting a massage. I knew what I wanted and it was communicated to the masseuse - this was after she acknowledged the tightness and asked how firm and asked if I even prefer for her to walk on my back. I'm assuming I've gotten an inexperienced masseuse, hence, the not so great experience. - I have a sedentary job which requires me to sit long periods of time. This means I get all kinds of knots and tightness on my back and shoulders a lot. Because of this, I get massages bimonthly to loosen everything up. I frequent a different spot but wanted to try Annie's due to its location and also to support a small business. Price is very competitive, however, it wasn't the best experience for me. I've had much better massages before. The therapist acknowledged how tight and 'tired' my upper back and shoulders felt but just basically glided her hands all throughout with minimal pressure. I left feeling the same as when I walked in. Gave this place a try, but I don't think I'll visit again. Will be waiting for a week and going back to my other usual massage place where it feels like they snatch your soul every time. Lol. Their masseuses and masseurs are way better. read more

I go on a regular basis and typically use the same person. If they are not there the quality is the same with whomever I use. As other reviewers have said it is a simple no frills place. The place is always very clean, organized. The staff do have problems with English but they are very attentive and very focused on resolving my pain. On those days whenI need something extra they apply various herbal ointments at no extra charge. I always call several hours in advance and have never been kept waiting. My wife and I had a couples deep tissue massage today. We agreed it was the BEST we had ever had. it was also one of the most affordable we had ever seen. GREAT value. The ONLY negative was that there was not a single person there that spoke good English. Body language and a few words or broken English was enough though. This is a place that I have been going for years, they do a nice job with experienced therapists. Pricing is competitive for Montgomery County . Relaxing ambiance, do wish that there were individual rooms but the walls provide enough sound dampening so that you don't really hear conversations between who might be next to you and their therapist. Pretty great strip mall massage place. Definitely better then massage envy. Doesn't have all the bells / whistles of a corporate place but when you get down to it the rooms are dark, and the therapists knowledgeable. Only had 2 massages here by the same person but she is great. The 2nd massage seemed better then the first, possibly due to me opening up more, and expressing what parts are more sore. As an avid goer of massage places, I am one to stick to a place I like and this is the first time I have found somewhere outside of my normal in house therapists. Cheap, clean and local = great business. Also walk-ins welcome as they seem to have people waiting to serve. Love the hot towel after each section of your body to clean up any oils. Then her cellphone rang and she took the call with one hand and massage me with the other one. When she finished, said OK we finished your 30 min. I sailed OK and she started leaving the room. I'm a big fan of getting massages--especially when they walk on your back, like they do at Annie's. My masseuse was capable, and nice, but my experience at Annie's wasn't. Someone called to my masseuse in another language, and she asked me if I wanted to extend my 60 minute ($50) massage to 90 minutes. It seemed too early, so I asked if my 60 minutes was up, and my masseuse said: "Almost." I asked how much 90 minutes was and she said $70, so I said: "Ok." I know myself, and I'd never agree to pay a dollar a minute for an extension, when I was paying less than a dollar a minute for the first hour. The masseuse turned to call out the curtain to the other woman, and I lifted my head, and looked at the clock, and I still had more than 20 minutes left... which seemed odd. When the woman working on me said that my time was up, and I got up to put on my clothes, and looked at the clock on the wall, and it's been 85 minutes since I came in the room. I decided not to complain because the massage was good. I went out to the counter and the woman the voice belonged to asked how long my massage was, I told her 90 minutes, and she said: "$80." I told her that my masseuse told me it was going to be $70, and she more forcefully repeated $80. I told her to ask my masseuse, and she did, and the younger woman came out and innocently said she told me $80. A lie. I'm not about to argue with them, because of the language barrier, and in hindsight I wish I'd have thought fast enough to ask for a printed price list. But instead I paid the extra $10, and shaved $5 off the $15 I intended to tip my masseuse... so I only lost $5. But being overcharged and under-massaged annoyed me enough to write this review. They have a special for first time customers $59.99/hr for a hot stone massage. The massage itself felt rushed and aggressive. During the experience the lady kept asking me if I wanted to add on additional stuff (foot massage, an extra 30 mins) to up the price. When it came to checkout the lady didn't even tell me the total before asking for my card. I had to ask to how much the total was. The lady told me the original price is $80 but since it was my first time they said 60. I said okay. I asked if I could add a 10 tip. They looked at me confused and told me I need to tip $20. They told me that because the original price is $80 I need to tip $20 (which is more than 20%). Tip is not required, it is optional. I shouldn't have even tipped anything because I didn't have a good experience but because I am nice and considerate I was willing to tip $10. They told me I couldn't leave unless I tipped $20. Overall, worst experience ever. Don't come here unless you want to be huddled and taken advantage of. read more

Friendly I supposed, decent price slightly more then other places in Rockville Gaithersburg area. The massage was too light and featherly. Usually medium has me feeling it and gets the tension out of my back. This place you have to let them know to go hard or else not much action. I feel like I wasted my money to be honest. I got 60 minutes assage with Lucy and she was thorough. Best part is walking the back and she knows how to release the tension from bad knots. I felt light and much relaxed. Just went again today. This is a no frills place but it is clean and well kept. All the therapist are a bit challenged with English but all are well trained apparently by the same people since the massages are similar with everyone I have seen. They will ask how hard you want it and that is what you will get. The therapist will get up on the table at times to give the pressure you need, a little different but effective. This place is sketchy, unprofessional, and only willing or happy to serve men. My boyfriend got me a massage here and came with me and got one himself. The massage itself was great, and cheap, but the woman massaging me answered 7 phone calls DURING my massage. She gave me no extra time for these disruptions. Because she kept answering calls while massaging me, I could hear everyone on the phone and I started to think it a bit odd that no females were calling to schedule appointments, only men. In all of the many facilities where I've had massages, a more dominate male ratio has never been the case. As we checked out, the woman laughed and joked with my boyfriend but wouldn't even make eye contact with me (and she's the one who massaged me!)! My boyfriend laughed when I said they only want male clients, but a few months later, I proved him wrong. After a stressful day at work, I decided to call and see if they could fit me in for a massage. After all, it was a good massage and maybe my bad experience was a one off thing. My boyfriend had gone back a few times since our first visit and had no problems. I called and asked if I could come in at 2:00 and they said yes on the phone. I arrived at 1:45 and when I got into the waiting area, a woman came out, looked me up and down and said "yes?" with an attitude like "why are you here?". I said I had called and they said they could take me at 2. She pointed at the clock and again in a very rude tone said, "ok, then you need to wait until 2.". I said that's fine, I'll sit here (in the waiting area). She looked worried all of a Sudden and said, "oh! You're going to wait here?!". She left, kind of frantically, into the back where the massage areas are. As I waited, I saw 5 male clients leave (again, no women). By 2:15, no one had come to check on me and I was getting pretty annoyed. The front door opened and another male client walked in. The same woman who had "helped" me earlier came back out with a big smile on her face. "Oh hello, how are you today? Nice to see you!" She said to the man. He replied, I have a 2:15 appointment. She said, "of course come right back". She didn't even say a WORD to me and never came back out. By now it's 2:30, and I'm furious, and another female employee comes out from the back. I said, I'm sorry I can't wait any longer, I'm leaving. She said, "okay??" Again with the same tone of the other woman, like, why do you think I care? I said I had a 2:00 but no one ever came for me. She said "ok, bye". No apology, nothing. This place does not want to serve female clients and seeing the number of males who come in and the difference in the way they treat us is disgusting. read more

*This is based on one visit.* There's definitely an attitude problem with the people who work here as well as an obvious difference in the way you're treated depending on if you're male or female. When I came in for the first time, a masseuse and a guy I'm assuming just got a massage from her were talking and she was giving him her card and her name, discussing his problem areas and when to come back, laughing, smiling, etc. The lady at the front desk was also being really friendly to him. So I expected the same kind of treatment, but I never got it. The moment he left, the lady at the front desk just looked at me, not even saying hello or anything. I said very politely that it was my first time. I expected her to say something like welcome, here is what we offer, etc. But she just said, ''Go with her,'' and motioned to the masseuse who was talking to the guy earlier. She didn't introduce herself or anything. I asked to use the bathroom and when I came back there was a different masseuse waiting outside the little makeshift room I was supposed to be in. Again, no introduction, no conversation, nothing. I was just left in the room, and as a first time customer I was totally clueless about what was expected of me. So I did what I saw in the movies basically and laid down, but when she came in she was like, ''That's the wrong way.'' And she took the sheet I had draped over me OFF without permission and tried to adjust me herself when all she had to do was leave the room for a second so I could get up and turn the other way. Right off the bat, I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I didn't feel welcome at all. And I couldn't relax enough during the massage because of all that. Pros: The price really can't be beat. An hour for $50 basically is a steal. The quality of the massage was good. I was asked if I wanted medium or strong and I said strong and the masseuse really went at it strong. I have a bad back with many knots in it and although getting some of the knots out was painful, she seemed to know what she was doing and I felt a lot better afterward. I like the dim lighting and soft music as well. Cons: Everyone's attitude especially towards how they treat their female customers needs serious help. Each room has a curtain instead of a door, so that sucks and hinders relaxation, but I could hear exactly how the front desk and masseuses were talking to customers of different genders who came in and out and there was a huge difference. Also, the removal of parts of and even the entire sheet without permission is absolutely unacceptable. A respectful masseuse would ask beforehand if undraping any part of the sheet is okay with you, not just assume it is. It was okay with me, but I expected her to at least ASK or TELL me beforehand. They also give you no direction whatsoever unless you ask. When the massage was over, she just tapped my shoulder and was like, ''Ma'am, it's over,'' and walked out. I was like ???? okay. I hope the manager or owner or someone does something about the sexist environment and professionalism of this place. I can handle minor things like the curtains and language barrier because the price is such a great deal, but if you're gonna have a business like this, you need to have the basics down, like friendly employees who aren't biased towards anyone, treat everyone with respect, and EXPLAIN what they're doing. Massages in general are awkward -- you have a complete stranger touching on your body -- and I know they do it for a living, but they should be mindful of how to make their customer as comfortable as possible considering what is happening so that they loosen up. read more

I love this place, having been there over 30 times. They have another location in Rockville. I get a massage 1-2 times a month and this is my go-to place. No appt needed and only once have I been turned away because they were too busy (30 minute wait when I didn't have time for that). I've had a dozen different girls work on me there and no matter who, it is very good to excellent. I go for hard pressure. Some of them back walk, which I don't like, so I just tell them not to at the start. The curtains instead of doors is not ideal but I don't really care. They turn on a heated blanket you lay on and this is great in winter. They are cheap and also give a card where you can 1 appt for free after ten visits. read more

Been here 6 times so far. I am a regular at several acupressure massage places for specific pains but prefer to come to this place for general stress. The approach is more about rubbing and circulation with walks on your back if you like more pressure. The other difference in places like Nirvana is the clothing. Here you hang your shirt and pants on a wall if you are comfortable with it, whereas the others only remove your belt, shoes, and things in pockets.
