The first thing that caught my eye was the Dogfish Café vending machine to the left when you enter the library. I thought this was genius! If patrons are studying or spending a significant amount of time at the library, they're likely to get hungry and need a quick snack. The library also appears to have a study room and plenty of computers available in the main area, which is convenient for students and anyone who needs a place to work. The children's area was colorful and inviting, with fun window-pane decorations and an aquarium that I'm sure kids enjoy. This branch is a little farther from me than my local branch, so I probably won't visit regularly. However, I would definitely return if I'm looking for a particular book that isn't available at my usual branch.

This location is utterly breathtaking in terms of accessibility for people in the city and the architecture. I champion all libraries and we should be flooding them to take advantage of the clubs, panels, classes, and other resources. Today I checked out the Carmelo Anthony exhibit which has been extended to the 19th of January. It's completely FREE! It was truly a great exhibit and so amazing to see and relearn about so many pivotal points in his career, community impacts and soundtrack to his life and career. You also can sign up for a Melo library card (limited edition)!! I think this is a great initiative to get people into the library again and reintroduce why the library is an amazing place to be!

The ceiling here is gorgeous, and I like the listing of the various services offered to people in the area. Apparently, there was a guy who he thought was clearly high or similar, staring at anyone entering the men's bathroom. From the bit I interacted with the staff, they seemed friendly and helpful. I looked through a bit of their offerings, and they had a surprisingly large number of old films to rent, among other things. In short, a nice place to visit and take a load off.

People have strayed away from the library when in fact they are still of use to us all. Not…read moreeveryone is tethered to a tablet or phone. Some still enjoy the age old ability to be a page turner and the occasional use of a piece of mail to keep our spot in the book we're reading. I make it a point to keep my child involved in the use of the library. When's the last time you even made mention of the Dewey Decimal System. Ask a kid nowadays and they'll look at you sideways. This location is right off of Annapolis Road and if you're going too fast you'll miss your turn. There is plenty of parking and the librarians there were pleasant and didn't mind lending a hand when I was researching some titles. You can check out magazines as well as DVDs and CDs. Getting a library card is easy peezy so don't procrastinate; get your butt out to your local library and see what they have to offer. If you pick up books from another Ann Arundel County library, you can return them to another AAC location without stressing. After checking out materials, the return date is printed on a receipt for you and if needed you can extend your items online. I hope you read this and ponder, when's the last time I actually sat down and read a book? Getting kids to read is a good way to have conversations and help them articulate what they read and how it made them feel. Trust me, its okay to untether occasionally.

My daughter got her very first library card today and she was so excited to use it. I love the "teen" area that they have filled with tables and YA books. Some little known perks: - The librarians can help you order a book from any other BCPL branch. - You can drop off books from the Enoch Pratt library system here. - You can get tons of great magazines and ebooks for free on your Kindle and Ipad. - They have many events for patrons of all ages. - There is a basement with special collections and rooms that can be signed out for community meetings. - It smells like a library should.

This remodel is the biggest disappointment. While there are new floors, carpets, and shelving, the…read moresheer number of incomplete, empty, and "not yet available" things is staggering. To start, the children's area is mostly empty, devoid of toys and other learning materials that allow children to express their creativity. Instead, the main children's are has a couple of round tables, a few chairs, a kids toy house in the middle of the service area, and a few old and dirty toys. That's it. For a community with over 9,000 children ages 9 and under. There's no enclosed place for kids. No new learning environments. How does Arbutus, which was last remodeled over a decade ago have a better kids play and learning area than Catonsville which was remodeled just last year? The other frustrating thing is that staff aren't around to help. There's one person at the desk. That's it. If there's a line of 3 people, they say they can't call for back up unless it gets longer. If you ask a person shelving books, they can't help either saying it's BCPL policy that two people can't help someone at the desk. I will say, the branch is clean and the bathrooms are way better. I also like the enclosed teen space which is nice. I also think generally, most of the staff are pretty pleasant. It just sucks that BCPL blundered the renovation and are hampering customer service.
