Beautiful library. Lately since I started working in PG I've wanted to visit more libraries. As a former librarian I have a deep love and appreciation for libraries. The work they do is irreplaceable and so impactful. The renovation they did on this library is astounding! The libraries in Baltimore are really great but none are this modern. If I could give "no stars", I would. It was disgraceful the way you treated the group of special needs toddlers yesterday. The arrived for a preplanned field trip to play on the splash pad, but instead, they were humiliated. This establishment devalued these kids and had a kiddie pool that they filled with jugs of water. These babies had on their swimsuits and was ready to play on the splash pad. People, we have to do better by our kids. The disappointment was heartbreaking. It was 90 degrees and you failed our children. read more

I really enjoyed my time here. Spent mostly in the kids section. Dinosaur foot prints that change color is one cool feature. There is a lovely park next to the parking lot. I went there as well. Had a great time at the park and the library. The staff is friendly and helpful. I asked for two books I could not find. I was just notified that they are available for pickup. I can't wait to visit again. read more

I love the Laurel Branch! There is ample and free parking here for everyone. Read the signs about not leaving your cigarette butts for rabbits! Serious about this, they are hilarious. Inside, the welcoming environment of this vast public library is full of light and color. I loved the diversity of the people here, and there were a LOT of people using this wonderful space. I was here for a meeting and the room was cold. A friendly library worker was able to disarm the outside door alarm so we could get some warm air. After the meeting, I applied for and received a library card in two minutes. This is such a great library. I am always happy to visit the Laurel Branch in Prince George's County, Maryland. read more

Updates on 9:12/18: removes 2 stars. Beautiful library....but but but some of the staff, including the manager offer the poorest customer service. They were highly resistant to letting me return Enoch Pratt books (despite reciprocity.) Luckily one of the male librarians came to my rescue and provided a valid dated receipt (vs. the handwritten, undated, questionable version the female librarian told they could only provided. I quickly learned that they (manager and 2 female subordinates) will neither take responsibility for errors nor apologize. In fact, these women are downright hostile and could benefit from remedial customer service training. I visited this library for the first time yesterday. I liked it so much that I returned today with my children in tow. Absolutely beautiful. Looks like a library that would be created by Roark in the Fountainhead written by Ayn Rand. Grounded structure yet soaring ceilings and huge windows letting in lots of light. Spacious, with a central fireplace, lots of seating, lovely children area with dinosaur foot prints and dinosaur bones (baby T-Rex) embedded in the floor views under glass. We will be regulars..! read more

First time to the new building, as Beltsville is closed to upgrade the shelving. Parking lot now surfaced with pavers, and a convoluted one way system which makes you tour the entire thing to exit. WiFi room is now near the entrance, and was chilly. It's also the cafe, so you get to listen to people crunch as you work. Plenty of AC sockets, no usb. Hard wooden stools. Main room is airy, sections well marked. Additional catalog terminals next to the stacks, and an expanded computer area. The architecture has won a prize, but I really wish they'd spent the money on contents rather than edifice. read more

I visited this library for the first time this past Friday, the library is brand new with lots of windows, lots of chairs (could use more tables though) and even a fireplace (it's warm too!). The library was really clean, there's a kids area and they can be fairly loud, i kind of wish they had a 2nd level so upstairs would be quiet since the kids can be pretty loud. They do have study rooms though, when i came in they were all full. There is plenty of parking, staff seemed approachable. Very nice facility overall. Just wish it was a bit more. For the study rooms, you have to book it the day of in 2hr increments. So get to the library early, and u book it on the iPad by information desk with your library card number and PIN number. read more

Nothing is the same. And it's fantastic. From the parking lot to the outside landscaping, energy efficient building, the conference rooms and meeting rooms are boast-worthy. I love the various study rooms. The vaulted ceilings are a breath of fresh air. The teen zone and kids area are cozy, engaging, and fun. Equipped with program rooms, a reading area with fireplace, and plenty of computer stations. I took plenty of pics. Very proud of where my tax dollars are going and this makes up for the time they've been under construction. Yay Laurel!!!! read more

This is a pretty busy library. There's ALWAYS something going on. From Meet-the-Author events (Q&A, readings, book signings) to book sales (grab bags are usually $2-4) to seminars (tax preparation, etc.), scrapbooking and other family-friendly and just for kids (story time) activities. The Customer Service and Check-Out lines move pretty quickly and the staff is always helpful. There's a park adjacent to the property where people (mostly pre-teens and teenagers) go to read, chill and hang out. read more

Although this library is not the closest to me, it is my favorite because it's more modern and its facilities actually make me excited to go to a library. I never saw it before the rebuild, but I love what they've done here. This feels less like a stuffy library and more like a hub of activity (which may or may not work for folks). I've seen others comment on this library not being quiet like most expect. I would agree to a point, particularly because of the kids area. I come here for the group crochet meeting that is held in the meeting room near the entrance (not quite inside the library proper). The room is spacious and has good tech. There's a smaller study room before you get inside the library as well. I love the open floor plan here. There are tons of windows that let natural light flow and the set-up isn't crowded. I never feel like I'm right up under other patrons. There are tons of outlets and seating available, too. I absolutely love the window seat nooks. A plus is the children's area. There is a play area and a cute dinosaur skeleton under the floor. This area can be a bit noisy sometimes because ... kids. Admittedly, I think this could be handled better, but it's not a dealbreaker for me. If I'm wanting more quiet, I just steer to the other side of the library. However, I love that when my kiddo is looking for books, I can keep an eye out while sitting at the booth in the back of the kids area. I find that this library is busy, so parking can be a beast sometimes. It just takes a while to figure out when it will be busy and when not -- weekend evenings have been packed in my experience. read more

I went to this library for my first time last week. I was doing laundry nearby, so I decided to check it out. I was surprised that it was crowded. As soon as I came in, I saw a computer room and some type of conference room. I went into the conference room and began to study. Like an hour later, one of the staff told me that I wasn't suppose to be in the room. She had an fake, snotty attitude. I simply apologized and went into the main library. Now, I do not like to cause trouble. I didn't want to confront her because I can tell she was going to get loud. When I went into the main library, I overheard her talking to her co-workers about how she would call the police because I was sitting in the previous room. There was no sign saying that I couldn't sit there, so I didn't know it was a big deal. Attitude on 100. She's African-American, light in complexion. She has some type of tint in her glasses. read more

The Laurel library is adapting and newly renovated. In this new age you've got to keep up. The Laurel library of old, which was packed to the brim with books is now been replaced with an airy open modern study and meeting place that yes has books. But they also have streaming media study rooms and a fantastic kids room that includes a replica of a nano tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. Throw in tons of parking and electric vehicle charging stations and you have the complete package. read more

This library is great if you can get a seat, but it's typically a crowded place and far from quiet in the evening weekdays. I'll pop into here to get some work done but usually have to use my headphones to drown out the noise. As of late they seem to have a bunch of juvenile delinquents running around and causing a ruckus like a bunch of hooligans. One of them even destroyed part of the automatic entrance at the front. However, if the punk teens aren't here it's quiet and peaceful! It's new and spacious, quite pleasant to look at especially on a sunny day. The large windows allow for a lot of natural light to get in. There seem to be several meeting rooms available as well if you're organizing a study group or knitting club. read more

Maybe it's been so long that I've been in a library but it's different. I always thought a library was a place to go for quiet study, even on a Saturday. I went there mid-day on a Saturday and not only was it noisy children were allowed to run around screaming and playing outside of the children's area. It was rather packed so I started at just a sofa but was able to snag a chair with a Swivl desk. I was never able to get to a regular desk and chair or even table. Get there early if that's what you need. There are Study Rooms but it's first come, first serve. Two stars because it was clean, easy to travel to and can be accommodating BUT people need to go back to libraries being quiet places in common areas. read more

The libraries in Maryland are leaps and bounds over the ones in Fairfax County, VA. Clean, modern, plenty of computers, faster WiFi, better assistance from librarians. This location the patrons, staff and lighting are excellent. My only gripe is a wish for trees in the parking lot to shield against summer days read more

We came for the first time today and we're impressed with the Kids Zone. We loved the dinosaur in the floor and it wasn't too big or overwhelming for my 2 year old. Especially loved the different places to sit and read. Not too big or small....but just right! read more

I went to the Laurel library to find a space to review some materials. While this space is small, it offers free WiFi, ample parking, lots of computers, and a room that you can discuss books with others. I did not have my new address reflected on my license yet and the staff told me that I could bring in a piece of mail. The ink from my pen also ran out and they let me borrow one of theirs. The staff is extremely knowledge and friendly. I noticed the center bulletin had a long list of activities and while I have not taken part of any yet, I look forward to doing so in the future. read more

Not worth the trip. Small selection, no real space to get lost in or look for books. They are supposed to be in this space for 18 or more months idk how. How is this considered a library my apt is bigger than this. Horrible solution county officials. read more

The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a lot of resources and databases unique to the laurel branch. In addition, everyone patrons are provided with $0.75 of free printing! read more

For now in their temporary space they have no real play space for kids. It's a weird corridor with a few books.

i accidentally lost 4 books from laurel library---for those 4 books, laurel library is charging me $80.99, and thats minus the $30. plus fees. laurel library threatened to have my credit attached, unless i paid---so i am now paying laurel library $5. a week---today i checked amazon,com---the 4 books collectively totaled $42.oo----why is the laurel library charging me so much---??? read more
