Who knew that the best Indian food I'd have in Scotland would be in a small town an hour outside of Glasgow. Annaya's is a well-established Indian restaurant in nearby Helensburgh but they recently opened this location in Balloch. I'm not all too familiar with their first location but I can tell you that this location was delicious.
All the dishes we got were flavorful and not at all bland. They gave us an option of how spicy we can tolerate and it was plenty spicy. This place was empty when we first got there at around 6:30pm but by 7pm the place was packed. It was rainy and cold the day we dined here so they only had the indoor dining room which was big enough to have about 12 tables or so. But it's clear that on warmer days, they have an outdoor area that could probably fit about an additional 20 tables. Even in the rainy weather, since it's covered, if they had outdoor heaters, I would've been willing to sit out there.
In terms of the eater who's not as adventurous, they do have a few Scottish food dishes for those who just want fish and chips or curry chips or something.
The service was great and prompt. They were friendly and it was clear that the locals already knew who they were and were happy to be a part of the community. read more
