I've been going to Anna for over 15 years, and she truly knows what she's doing when it comes to hair. She's not only skilled and experienced but also very sweet and caring. Because she's worked at the same salon for so many years, she has a loyal group of regulars and friends who adore her. Sometimes they even bring her food and desserts, which she happily shares with her customers, I always enjoy that! I've even seen customers help decorate and tidy up her salon, which shows how much people care about her. Most of the time, I leave very satisfied with my haircut. However, occasionally when the salon gets too busy, and the long wait sometimes up to 45 minutes can be frustrating. I don't normally leave reviews and I'm not a picky person. I just had my haircut by Anna, and I am disappointed. They are nice and polite but the result of my haircut was not good. I showed picture and made sure she knew the style I wanted, which was pretty basic and commonly seen. I'm embarrassed to share photos of my hair... chunks of hair missing, uneven lengths, and weird looking....for $75! Most of their customers seemed to be middle aged Korean ladies. I recently discovered Anna's salon and decided to get a drastic new look. I had long hair but always tied it up- which was boring. I told her to do whatever she felt would look best on me- yes, even though I had never been to her before. What an artist! You can really feel how passionate she is about her work and both of her assistants are professional and very nice. She understood exactly what I wanted and made a loyal customer out of me. I would highly recommend going early on weekdays if possible, as Saturdays are very busy and you will most likely have to wait a lot longer for your turn. Appt. 1: digital perm, heavily layered hair cut Appt. 2: root perm, bob cut I was looking for a hair salon that was great at perming hair without inducing too much damage, and a place that could cut well without being overly enthusiastic about cutting off too much hair. After lots of research and asking around, my friend recommended me to go to this salon and I cannot emphasize enough how happy I am that I took her recommendation! Anna is incredibly skilled in cutting, perming, and styling my thick hair. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair cut and permed and Anna was able to replicate the look while also framing it to my face structure (yes, she was able to do it even with my mask on). She took roughly 10 minutes to cut 4-5 inches of my damaged, dyed split ends, then thinned and layered my heavy hair. Just the cut itself looked amazing! When perming my hair, Anna was extremely meticulous and does not rush at all. Even if she has other clients waiting, she dedicates her time to each customer, which was greatly appreciated. At the end of the session, she explained some styling tips for my new curly hair and applied and instructed me to use moisturizers and oils to keep my hair healthy. Needless to say, my mother loved my hair cut and style so much she booked an appointment for the next weekend to get her hair done as well. My mom's hair was damaged because of multiple at-home hair dye sessions, but after one session with Anna, her hair looks alive and very healthy. She was given a scalp massage and had some sort of scalp/hair treatment that seemed to have revitalized her hair. She was extremely impressed and happy with the final outcome. An amazing plus about this salon was the COVID-19 regulations. This salon was appointment only in order to limit the number of people allowed in the space at a time. I suggest you book well in advance because she is in high demand. Before I entered the salon, I had my temperature checked and was instructed to sanitize my hands. I was given a plastic bin where I would store my belongings for the duration of the appointment. I noticed these bins were wiped down before and after every use. The wooden table which was holding all of the bins and home to some waiting clients was also wrapped with plastic to be easily disinfected. All employees double-masked, and not once did I see the employees take these masks off. In addition, they provided me with a mask that I could tape onto my face while they cut and permed my hair. This prevented my mask from accidentally slipping off (probably would have slipped if I used a hook-behind-the-ear mask) during the entirety of the hair appointment. I would 100% suggest this salon to anybody who wants a great haircut/perm, especially during COVID-19 times. I felt extremely safe, pampered, and well taken care of! read more

I logged into my old Yelp account just to leave this WONDERFUL review! This one is particularly for the male clientele. I've been going to my good friend Anna for over 8 years now. I usually just go for the occasional waxing services since I am naturally a very hairy guy and it makes me feel much more clean and sanitary, I just recently tried the phenomenal massage as well. The waxing is very fairly priced, so it always leaves me room to happily tip and feel confident I received my money's worth. Anna is such a professional in many ways. There are so many wonderful beauty services that she offers for male and female. She does a great job making the process quick, so it's not more painful than it needs to be. Anna does an amazing job of keeping things very clean and also professional. I would not pay any attention to any negative review as is usually from a one off customer making unreasonable requests. Like I said, there's a reason I've been going to only Anna for over 8 years for these services, it's because she is so amazing at her job! The massage service is great because I usually have a stiff back from working a physical job all week which builds up pressure in my upper back, and to my amazement Anna was able to crack it and relieve all the pressure which for me personally is very hard to do. Just wanted to give some background info about Anna's. She opened up her salon (15+ years ago) at a time when a lot of Koreans in the area were going to people's garages to get their hair done. No seriously, licensed hairdressers who ran businesses out of their home and Korean women (and their hapless children like myself) would go for cuts and perms. I remember walking around half a day with my hairline greased with vaseline and my hair ragged up in rollers for my first ever Asian Perm! Not at this place of course, because we were money conscious immigrants and this place was considered Upscale. But, I did get my hairy self waxed here on a monthly basis. This was 15 years ago. Anna is practically iconic amongst the Korean community in Silicon Valley. Like most Korean salons, she started out charging super cheap prices, but as she kept on getting more popular and busier she kept on raising her prices - "just so people would stop bothering her and she wouldn't be so busy" my mom quipped, and now her fees are comparable to non-Asian end salons. And she still is kept busy with a lot of clients. And that's saying something! Since it's been over 10 years since seeing her, I totally don't remember if I personally liked getting my hair cut from her. Probably not. Because when you are a chubby round faced Asian girl with thick glasses and even thicker crazy permed Asian hair, uh, there IS NO such thing as a good haircut. She was friendly though. read more

I don't speak Korean. I also color my hair a lot. My mom booked me the appointment to get my hair cut since I hasn't gotten one in months! I usually just trim my own hair. Haircut is $60 and they did a gloss coat thing ($75) to protect me from my damaged hair. My appt was 15 min late. It took 45 min to cut my hair... Does not look like the picture I showed her, though my hair is a tad shorter in the front than before. I do admit, this place is GOOD FOR HAIRCUTS! But for everything else, not so good. I wanted to get my bangs permed- They persuaded me to get the gloss coat, though it did not help with what they said it would. They described it as a deep-conditioning thing but I'm 100% sure they just decided to tint my hair with color and had me sit in a chair for 15 minutes more than I was supposed to! My bangs can handle being permed... I was stupid to say yes to the $75 coloring (which by the way, did not really color my hair at all). Damaged hair gone? Nope, not even a little bit. I hate being tricked into thinking I need something when I don't. I was told that this technique of persuasion is how this salon makes its money. Go here for the cuts, and nothing else. read more

I dread getting my haircut. It never comes out looking like the picture. NEVER EVER. It's always whatever the stylist wants to make it look like, however. I am in love with Anna's Salon. I brought in a picture and she spent about 2 hours working on my hair to try to make it look like the picture. When she was done it was fabulous. I have never had a better haircut, Anna is a true perfectionist. The only cons with this salon is that, you do have to wait a while sometimes, and she only does cuts during the weekdays. But I think it's all worth it when you have that feeling of coming out of a salon feeling like you got exactly what you wanted. EXPENSIVE! ive been going to this hair salon for yeeeeeeeeeears. my mom has known about this through her korean connections and all the korean moms rave about this place so i always went here too to get my hair done. anyways you know my review is a good one because even with what im about to say, i keep on going so READ ME! so this place uses PERSUASION as a way to get you to do a bunch of stuff to your hair that you might not actually need. imma be straight up ANNA DOES THE BEST HAIRCUTS EVER. but i dont need the dye, i dont need the gloss coat, or feather pieces in my hair. its SO HARD to say no to her... and most of the time i end up doing all of the extra crap she wanted me to do. FORTUNATELY she doesnt actually charge me for the whole thing and i get a discounted price for it, but i just came to get a haircut. please just give me a hair cut and charge me for one. so on with how she cuts hair. its good. its really good. show her a picture and she'll do it, OR EVEN BETTER. she knows how to read face shapes and just faces in general and knows what looks best. one time i asked her for a short boycut because i wanted to try something different. she said "no.. you wont look good with a boycut and you might regret it later. if you want something short though then try the A-line" so i took her advice and WOW! gotta say i loved my hair cut. but yeah with the dyes and stuff.. dont do it. just dye your own hair at home or go to a cheap salon to get it done because really, dying is just dying. doesnt matter where you do it, your hair will change colors no matter what price you pay for it. with all that being said, she gets 4 stars for the excellent haircuts. minus 1 for that persuasion thing she does. read more

This is definitely my go-to salon. I come back every 3-4 months to get my haircut because my hair grows a bit faster than most people. I love having my hair short and I mean SHORT. When I cut my hair I want to be mistaken for a cute gay boy, that's how short I love my hair to be. Anna had a lot of fun with my first visit because my hair was fairly long and my hair count is "OVER 9000".. She charged me $65 for my cut and I paid $20 in tip (I usually tip my hairdressers a hugely excessive amount). Next visit was crazier than the first. She suggested I go for a look like her assistant hairdresser's, which was a cut called "unbalance". Needless to say, I don't mind looking super hipster and all.. It was a spontaneous visit to the salon and I was going to get a spontaneous haircut. She also suggested I dye my hair purple-ish just like her assistant but I was running low on budget so I had to respectfully decline. I LOVED the result and sometimes I wonder if I trust this lady a little too much! She knows my face and she knows what hairstyle would look good with my kind of face. The third visit I wanted something a bit more professional. I got a coating for my hair of purple-brown and gosh, the wine color is really something! Unfortunately it's only a coating and not a permanent dye, so it only lasted me about 2 weeks and it's fading more and more slowly. After every visit I am showered with compliments from other people and after every visit, Anna gives me more and more discounts ;) Last time she gave me some free wax to take along. read more

Anna is definitely the best hairdresser I found in the Bay Area. I have been to Anna Beauty Salon four times so far and my hair cut got better each visit. I think it takes time for any hairdresser to learn her customer's style and I think we are there now which makes me happy. Anna is a perfectionist and really takes time to give you the best haircut although she is usually very busy. She is popular so you will need to allow more time than other places. Her price is bit steep for me but she always does something extra to make it worthwhile. Also her haircut gets better with time so I don't need to go as often as I used to. After seeing the good reviews and the $$$ signs I thought this place must be good. So I scheduled appointments for me and my son. We arrived on time. We both waited for long time until Anna started to serve us. And she didn't serve us continuously because she was helping four other customers at the same time. She took turns to work on each customer. She was overstretched. So my son's simple hair cut took two hours! And hair wash was not even included in the $45 price plus $10 tips. I spent $370 and four hours to get hair cut, color and perm. The worst of all is that the results turned out to be really bad and ugly even though I showed her pictures and told her what we wanted. I would have given her one star if not for her nice and hardworking assistant Sandy. Because of the weird hair style we got from her we didn't want to take any pictures of us on our vacation trip the following week. read more

New to the area and decided to try Anna's based on positive Yelp reviews (albeit only a few reviews with the most recent being nearly a year ago). The salon's location is convenient but I hesitated over her $60 haircut fee. I don't remember the last, or better yet first time I payed $60 for a haircut by a Korean ah-gee-ma. Anna speaks enough English where we could communicate and understand one another. From the initial call I made to set up an appointment til the end when I left, Anna was simply very nice, professional and pleasant in demeanor. She didn't do anything fancy or extreme with my hair - just asked for a haircut with layers. She cuts well and when I asked her to trim some seemingly uneven edges after my hair was blow dried and I changed, she accommodated my request. All in all everything (shampoo, cutting, blow dry, touch up) was done in 40-45 minutes. I felt comfortable with the amount of time she spend with my hair. It gets scary when ppl spend 1hr+ with your hair and you feel gypped if hair dressers spend less than 30 minutes. I liked the fact that it was only Anna and another Korean lady at the salon. Anna cut my hair, the other lady blow dried. Although the price was a bit steep for me, I have no regrets going to Anna's. I'm a bit tired of paying $30 haircuts where I leave mildly-satisfied. I've been to Anna's a few times to cut my hair, she is my go-to-lady. What is great about Anna is that if you bring her a picture of what you want your hair to look like, your hair is really going to look like that. It's amazing. Be sure to tell her what you want, because she really delivers according to what you've said. That being said, what I do not love about Anna's is the wait, even if I've made an appointment! The best thing to do is go when her salon first opens so that she can devote all her attention to you. Otherwise, she can get a little distracted, as she is the only one doing any hair cutting in the salon.
