I recently stayed at the Ann Bean Mansion for the first time on a girls weekend to Stillwater. Our host was so kind and upon arrival, provided us with a glass of wine and a history of the house. We liked looking at all the antiques and photos of the original family who owned the property. We stayed in Cynthia's Room, which has space for 3 people (a large bed and a twin size). The beds were very comfy and the room on the whole is so cozy, what with the electric fireplace and charming decor. The large bathroom was AMAZING and I only wish we had had another few nights to take advantage of the tub! Apparently the Ann Bean is the only true B&B in Stillwater to serve breakfast! And my oh my, it was a good one! We had a light salad, poached pear, and a fancier version of a French toast. It was all delicious! I definitely had room for more so my only feedback was to add one more course or side! Most guests take breakfast up in their rooms but we enjoyed it in the dining room and got to chat with the owner and chef. I recommend coming down and doing the same! The Ann Bean is simply wonderful and the perfect spot to spend a weekend away in Stillwater with friends, partners, or as a family (older kids are allowed)! I will absolutely be back!! read more

We stayed at the Ann Bean to celebrate our 32nd Anniversary. It was a delightful surprise. We really enjoyed our beautiful clean room, rich history of the home and the delicious breakfast. Maybe one of the best breakfasts we ever experienced. We found out during our visit that the Ann Bean is the only B & B in Stillwater that serves breakfasts. The other B& B's provide a voucher to a local restaurant. We loved staying in the Tower room to enjoy our breakfast. It was like a retreat with a room on fourth floor that overlooks Stillwater. The jacuzzi and shower were so delightful that it was hard to get out. Thanks so much for this additional memory to add to our "favorite" anniversary trips. read more

Our time was wonderful at the Ann Bean B&B. We stayed in the "Solarium" room and it was beyond beautiful. Beware if you can't do stairs, this one is on floor 3. The tub in this room is what sold us. It filled from the ceiling and soaking in it was a perfect way to relax. It was a wow factor. The jetted shower was also top notch. Amazing room! The bedding was comfortable and high quality. And they provided all amenities in the room. (Fan, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, mini fridge and even a tv if you want). The only downfall was when sleeping with the windows open... the neighbor is outside in the backyard with their dog and they were rather noisy. If windows are closed... perfect! We requested a cheese basket for the room and it was perfect. There was a ton in it and we felt the value was great. Two small blocks of cheese, fruit, box or organic crackers and 3 bars of chocolate. Breakfast was nice and they accommodated to my non meat requests. The berry scone with lemon curd was my favorite. The house has been lovingly restored/ upgraded with spectacular showers and luxurious tubs for a relaxing day. The neighborhood historic houses a easy walk to a historic commercial area, numerous churches all along the river that divides Minnesota and Wisconsin. Spectacular accommodations!! Everything about this B&B was perfect; from the great location, within walking distance to downtown Stillwater, the scrumptious breakfast brought to your room, welcoming hosts and beautifully appointed rooms! There was nothing overlooked! The tower room was graced with a two person jetted tub, a tower space that overlooked the city, comfortable bed, lovey pillows, fireplace...everything was absolutely stellar even down to the toiletries provided (I actually looked up and purchased online before leaving because they smelled incredible!), also one of the cleanest places we've ever stayed. Seven years in a row, we have vacationed at this beautiful bed and breakfast in Stillwater. We always stay for five days in the winter, read books by the fireplace, go downtown for lunch...it's amazing. One year we toured the brewery, one year we toured this historic courthouse...my wife especially loves these vacations because they take care of everything, and we get to have a getaway (without all the travel hours...it's less than an hour from our home!) Not knowing how great Stillwater is, we stayed here for only one night to celebrate our anniversary. We want to come back. The place is run by Erin and her husband Jeremy. It is smaller than I thought it would be but it is very cute. We stayed in the Tower Room, loved it!!! It definitely is romantic and very peaceful. The room has a whirlpool (no shower, which is a little strange, wish they had one). The room has a tower room with a great view and seating area for reading, playing cards, etc... No TV in the room which actually helps set the mood. Fireplace in the room. Lighting is perfect, with tons of light. The breakfast is top notch!!! Cleanliness - 4 Decor - 4 (they are working on fixing things up more) Service - 5 Food - 4.5 (wished the OJ was freshly squeezed) Atmosphere - 4.5 Price - 4.5 (all nice hotels/B&B are a little expensive but this is worth it) The town of Stillwater is fabulous and has some good restaurants and tons of little shops to visit (the shops close very early). The river runs through the town providing a great view and great places to walk. This place is perfect for a weekend!!! I loved this town so much that I would consider moving here. I absolutely adore this place! We have stayed here twice, once on our wedding night and then again a few days ago for Valentine's Day. It was fabulous both times. We stayed in the Ann & Albert room, which was gorgeous- big bed, big bathroom, fireplace- just stunning. The owner gave us a tour of nearly the entire place because we were there at a time when all the rooms weren't booked. Let me just say- any room you stay in you will be in love with! The attention to detail is absolutely perfect! The owner offered us drinks on our arrival, which I always love! It makes you feel so much more "at home". I am a huge fan of antiques and history, and this place is full of both. I could have spend days wandering through and looking at all the decor! And breakfast- yum! Just perfect! We had stayed at other B&Bs in Stillwater but were blown away by our stay at Ann Bean! It's everything you'd expect from a great bed & breakfast (cozy, good food, etc.) and more! When the owners found out we were expecting a baby, they snuck up to our room during breakfast to deliver a swaddle gift. Also free beverages (almost anything you can imagine) delivered to your room on a silver platter day or evening. The owners are welcoming, friendly and great conversationalists. I'm not much of a B&B user, and between Yelp and Google I couldn't find many online reviews. We took our chances with the Ann Bean Mansion, and lady luck was on our side. The place was easy to get to, and near downtown Stillwater (about a 5 block walk... but caution: the walk back includes some serious uphills). The owners were really nice and accommodating. One thing to note is that they have a "mansion cat" meaning there is a cat who lives on the premesis, for those of us with allergies. She didn't bother me much, but I also had allergy meds with me pending the B&B being incredibly dusty/musty/crusty. We stayed in the Tower Room, which was pretty adorable, if not angle-y. It had a whirlpool tub, but no shower, and a really sunny breakfast nook up the steepest stairs ever. Breakfast was good - a little on the sweet side for me, but tasty. Also, the entire inn was really quiet which was appreciated. Overall, moderately priced, and I enjoyed my stay. I also THOROUGHLY enjoyed reading through the guest book. A surprising amount of people spent their weekends reading the Bible and praying. Which I can say I've never done. read more

Amazing bed-and-breakfast!. We have stayed at a couple of B&B in the Stillwater area and this is my favorite. We stayed in the tower room which has an amazing tower you can play board games or drink coffee and a nice sunny environment. This is very close to town and a nice walk. The owners are very friendly, and we did breakfast in our room one day, and with the other guests the next morning. Breakfast was amazing! They brought out an amazing pear to start off the meal, and then a special egg bake next. They even catered to my wife who needed dairy free! Highly recommend! read more

I've never stayed anywhere that rivaled my own bed at home, but the beds, pillows and linens here are super comfy. The inn keepers are really friendly, and happy to offer any recommendations for things to do in town. They're both super quick to respond to any needs you might have during your stay. I took my hubby to the Ann Bean last weekend to celebrate his birthday and it was great! This is my second favorite B&B, behind the St. Croix River Inn in Osceola. This historic mansion is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The rooms are clean and comfy, the bed was amazing. The inn manages to look historic, but still up-to-date with flat screen TVs in every room and free WiFi. It's the small touches that really made our experience wonderful. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and offered a glass of wine from the St. Croix Vineyard or home-brewed beer. I had wine and my hubby had beer, both of which were excellent. We settled into our room and came down to the parlor where we were offered another glass of wine or beer, to which we gladly accepted! There is a cookie jar and hot chocolate/tea in the dining room that is left out all day. Breakfast was superb. It was four courses, starting with a red wine poached pear over vanilla yogurt. This was followed by a basil dumpling with caprese salad. After that we had mini blinis with fresh peach compote and sausage. Dessert was homemade amaretto creme brule. Everything was amazing! Plus, the B&B is walking distance to downtown Stillwater. read more

Just back from my 3rd (4th?) stay at the Ann Bean and I'm already missing the relaxing vibe and the oodles of bright sunshine. This place and its owners are simply lovely. On this trip we stayed in the Tower Room (and, as an update from the prior reviews, there is now a great double shower room in it - in addition to the two person whirlpool tub). The tower itself - though not the easiest to climb into - provided the opportunity for long conversations away from everything and a great place to enjoy some cool breezes (especially during a late evening rain storm!) The breakfasts are and were *always* fantastic. And they accommodate for gluten free needs. During our stay, we were served delicious wine poached pears with yogurt, creme brulee, eggs benedict over gf toast, a lemon poppy seed muffin w lemon curd, bananas foster (this was incredible), an egg crepe cup - all gluten free for me! There are lots of little things that are just neat and unexpected (and I don't want to ruin all of them for you but...) - a bath salt/fizz from L'Occitane waiting on the side of the tub, glasses of wine, cookies, old books and board games waiting for you everywhere you look, and pretty much unlimited hot cocoa if that's your thing. read more

My first trip to the Ann Bean and all I can say is amazing. The couple that run this place are so kind and welcoming. They have so many lovely touches in the house! When we arrived on Friday we were welcomed with 2 bottles of wine in the parlor for our party of 5 ladies. Our rooms were lovely. We had the Cynthia and Hersey rooms. The beds and pillows are so comfy I had a hard time getting up in the morning but then I would have missed breakfast! Poached pears, pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee....and more served in our room on beautiful antique china. They also accommodated my friends with gluten and dairy allergies. I'm not a frequent B&B person. However the Ann Bean Mansion may be the next tradition my Wife and I share. We loved the entire stay, and look forward to visiting again. It's beautiful mansion from the first glance at the curb, our room was perfect (E.L. Hersey room) large & very elegantly decorated - not the IKEA decor some modern hotels are charging huge $$$ for. The entire mansion was immaculate and must take a lot of effort to maintain. The owners Erin & Jeremy Drew's were welcoming and it was a pleasure to make small talk with. Located within walking distance to the main street of Stillwater, we were guided in the right direction as it pertains to restaurant suggestions. Jeremy served as great resource with his recommendations. My wife and I travel quite a bit, and for years we have made it a priority to have short getaways at very nice hotels in the twin cities area (The Grand Hotel & St. Paul Hotel) finding this diamond out of so many choices only comes around every so often. To my surprise it was a very nice experience during breakfast with the other guests, while Jeremy & Erin not only served a fantastic meal but keep us engaged in conversation. With so much history and such a great location the Ann Bean Mansion in Stillwater is a perfect getaway. I will recommend this B & B to all my friends. read more

Wow. My girlfriend and I decided to spend a weekend here to "get away from it all" and that goal was certainly accomplished. The Ann Bean Mansion is a stunningly gorgeous B&B that has been beautifully restored, and it shows through and through. The staff, a couple named Erin and Jeremy, were incredibly welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable about the historic Stillwater area. My first bed and breakfast! We picked this place based on reviews on tripadvisor. We stayed in the Tower room which was an attic room with a skinny steep staircase to get to a nice breakfast nook on the top floor. The room was average. Some of the furniture was a little aged, but adequate. The owners were very nice, accomdating and serve a mean (sweet) breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the tower room to anyone. We peaked in some of the other rooms and Cynthia's room seems nice as well. read more

My boyfriend got me a night at the Ann Bean Mansion B&B for Christmas, and we cashed in on my gift this past weekend - a nice, relaxing little getaway from city life. With a great reputation, Ann's Mansion didn't disappoint! The house has been beautifully restored, while keeping the original look & historical feel of the house. We stayed in Ann & Albert's room, which was so gorgeous & cozy. Even though I could tell (well, smell) it had been recently painted that fact didn't deter me from enjoying all that the room had to offer: fireplace, comfortable king bed, vintage furniture, beautiful bathroom with gray marble tile & updated toilet/sink/shower, and probably the best part...no TV :) Crazy, I know...when we first walked into the room and saw no TV we kind just looked at each other like "what do we do now?" But it was a blessing in disguise and I'm so glad they don't compromise the old nature of the house by filling your room with modern day appliances. The reason you go to a weekend B&B is to connect & relax anyways! Oh, and they had a guestbook in the room so that everyone who stays can write a little note - so cute & a really great touch! There are misc. snacks & beverages downstairs, along with freshly-baked cookies, yummm. The breakfast that they served was a little too foo-foo for our taste, so wish they could give you options on that...but overall a really wonderful experience! I would definitely recommend a Stillwater getaway to the Ann Bean Mansion. We will probably go back ourselves, and we want to try out the Tower Room next! read more

This was our first stay at the Ann Bean Mansion, and it certainly will not be our last. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt relaxed and welcomed. The Inn Keeper offered us a free upgrade due to a cancellation, and gave us the opportunity to tour all open rooms before we settled in. We were then offered local beer and wine, which was delivered to the room, and given some great dinner recommendations. While out on the town, we were even able to text the Inn Keeper to have ice delivered to our room, which was waiting for us in the freezer when we got back. The king sized bed was as attractive as it was comfortable and we slept great. We had breakfast delivered to the room, which was tasty and beautifully presented. If we didn't have reservations in the city the next night, we would have loved to stay another night here. We are already planning our next visit to this lovely B&B! read more

Spent our anniversary weekend here and I really had a wonderful weekend, but I am not sold on this place. We stayed in the E.L. Hersey room. The room was enormous! Huge king bed set into the bay window, fireplace, sitting room, small dining table, huge bathroom with 2 person tub, amazing! The location is great too. Walkable to all of the shops of Stillwater. The location and the room itself were the best things about this place. We stayed Saturday to Sunday and the place was full but we never really saw anyone which was strange? It was actually sort of eerie, I felt like we were staying in an abandoned house. There were no smells when we arrived, there was no sound, no one talking, no music, we didn't even really hear footsteps. I sort of had a different mindset of what a B&B would be like. I had imagined it as staying at a long distant relatives house back in the 1900's. That's not really what I experienced. I wanted to smell cookies when I walked in or rosewater, something. It smelled like nothing. I wanted to hear music playing people laughing, talking or playing a game... that didnt happen either. It also didn't seem welcoming. It felt like a museum all this stuff you shouldn't touch and the keepers, we didn't really see them other than to check in and breakfast. It just didn't appeal to any sensors except visually. It was beautiful. The food was meh. I am gluten free and they did cater to this which was nice, however, I don't think they have tried many of their GF dishes. For breakfast the first dish was a poached pear in wine sauce with I loved. That was fantastic and breakfast should have stopped there. The next course was an egg baked into some type of pastry. My pastry was GF but it reminded me of the wafers in catholic church and the entire dish had no flavor, i thought maybe it was bc mine was GF but my the others agreed it had no flavor. The last course was a banana nut bread pudding... mine was again ok but it was really heavy and dense. Usually if you are baking pastries and they are gluten free you add applesauce to keep it light and fluffy or sour cream to keep it more moist. I don't know if this wasn't done but mine was like a pound cake. Again, not terrible, but heavy and firm for what it was. read more

Four our 2nd anniversary my husband and I decided to have the BB experience. The Ann Bean Mansion had the highest ratings in trip advisor and we decided to try it. The experience was awesome!!! And we will totally return to this BB. We love how they pay attention to all the little details. We stayed on the Jacob's Room and we had a real fireplace and a large jacuzzi. We just finished the loveliest stay at the Ann Bean Mansion to celebrate my parents' 60th birthdays. We stayed in the Tower Room and my parents stayed in the Ann and Albert room. I can't say enough good things. We felt instantly welcomed by the Innkeepers Erin and Jeremy and the hospitality continued until the moment we left. The house is beautiful with modern amenities camouflaged in authentic Victorian style. The tower in our room was a uniquely special nook if you're willing to squeeze up and down the stairs to get there! We particularly enjoyed the wine and cookies offered upon arrival, luxurious bath and showers, the divine breakfast, and all the time period details. My husband and I just got married on Saturday. We had never stayed at a B&B before. What a magical entry into a whole new world. The staff at the Ann Bean is wonderful. We were so well taken care of. We stayed in the E.L Hersey room and it was the most peaceful room I've ever had the pleasure to rest my weary little soul in. There's beautiful touches all over the place; comfy bath robes, breakfast delivered right to the room, lovely toiletries, complimentary beverages and plenty of privacy. It was a total dream. I will definitely be returning here with my husband. This place is a true gem and it's wonderful how hard the staff works to preserve the legacy of its former occupants. Tonight, we're staying at another B&B in Milwaukee and it pales in comparison. We've been spoiled. No bathrobes and an unfriendly innkeeper. We stayed at the Ann Bean Mansion after our wedding. This was the perfect place to stay for our first night as newlyweds. As soon as we arrived, we felt welcome and comfortable. My husband and I have stayed at this B&B periodically throughout the last 5 years, starting right after the new owners (Erin and Jeremy) first took over. It has been so fun to see how the owners have transformed this house over the years. It is really obvious they care for their home well, as they have been updating it, yet keeping the original Victorian charm. Just to detail a few of the changes we've seen, they landscaped the outside of the home adding a lovely brick path, terraced stone border surrounding the lawn and a pretty garden that has some tasty strawberries for picking in the spring! They have also added new beds in all the rooms (all but one room are king size), updated the bathrooms with gorgeous large tubs, adding lovely patterned new wood floors in some of the hallways, and they continue to find and add perfect Victorian furniture pieces to decorate the home (my favorite is the vintage lawn chair in the entryway!). The last time we stayed there, they were in the process of restoring the exterior of the home which was an impressive feat; we can't wait to see it completely finished, I suspect it will make the home look as stately from the outside as it does on the inside! We always look forward to our next stay to see what new projects Erin and Jeremy have recently completed. As for staying the night at this B&B everything here is perfect; the breakfasts are wonderful, the rooms are spacious (especially for a bed and breakfast) and to my husband's delight not too "girly," and the huge jetted bathtubs make for a decadent/relaxing evening.
