Horrible experience. Do not recommend. The female instructor was disrespectful, unprofessional, and in the end, attempted to deflect attention from her poor behavior by directing toward us an accusation of some unnamed and ungrounded 'prejudice' against her. WTF?! Here's a detailed timeline if you want to read more. 1. I scheduled an appointment with them at 12:30, showed up at 12:10. During the wait, nobody told me what I needed to do. At around 12:20, I walked up to a male instructor and let him know that I had an appointment at 12:30. He told me to wait until it was my turn, and someone would come to me. Nobody ever came up to me. 2. At around 12:40, I went up to a female instructor who just came back from a road test. I told her that I had an appointment at 12:30. The female instructor told me that she was running late and was supposed to leave at 1:00 pm. She had to do another test originally scheduled at 12:00, but another instructor would do my test instead. She didn't apologize to anyone affected by her delay. 3. At around 1 pm, the male instructor came back. I went up to him and told him again that my test was scheduled at 12:30, but he had another test to do and said I would be the next. 4. At around 1:20, the female instructor came back. I didn't expect her to give me the test because she said she was going to leave at 1:00, but I saw her standing 30 feet away from my car seemingly waiting for me like I was supposed to know what to do. 5. As I pulled up to her, she didn't come close to my window or anything. I brought my documents and walked up to her. She started saying that she wouldn't be giving me the test, but she would help fill up my paperwork. 6. As she was filling up the paperwork, she asked me where I learned to drive. I wasn't sure what kind of answer I was supposed to give her, like which road I learned to drive on? I thought she might've asked 'when' instead of 'where' so I tried to confirm with her. Then she changed the question to who taught me to drive. I told her "it was my friend, to be more specific, my husband". She hesitated and asked, 'so...your partner?' I sensed some hostility towards my homosexuality but I didn't take it very seriously as there might be some cultural and/or religious difference. 7. After she was done with the paperwork, she instructed me to start the road test. Wait, what? I thought she wasn't going to do my road test? When did it change? Maybe she's just gonna do my parking test and let the other instructor take over after? Anyway, I was glad if she was to give me the road test because it means I didn't have to wait any longer, but I would appreciate it more if I could be informed of any plan change for the test I paid for. 8. After the parking test, she got in my car. I explained to her that I was planning to adjust my mirrors even though they were already adjusted because I heard people say it's a must in the test. She didn't respond. But as I was adjusting the mirrors, she asked very impatiently, 'Can you move?' 9. The way she spoke with me and the way she gave instructions during the road test was very condescending with a lack of respect and professionalism. Despite me waiting for about an hour and how uncomfortable she made me feel, I showed her great respect. Each time she 'issued a command', I would say 'okay, thank you' to show my appreciation for her time and to confirm that her instruction was received. 10. In the end, we had an argument. She stormed out of my car without a proper conclusion. I said to her as she was getting in her car, ''thank you for making us wait for one hour". She replied, "You are welcome" with contempt on her face. I guess some people take pride in being rude. 11. She didn't give me my receipt so we drove to their office to get it. She kept us locked out the whole time except when she handed out the receipt. The Short Version: The examiner was over an hour late. Before, during, and after the road test, she was rude, condescending, and potentially homophobic. When confronted with her tardiness and unprofessionalism she attempted to deflect attention from her behavior by electing to accuse us of being "prejudiced" (whatever that means). The Long Version: My husband had an appointment to take his road test today, Saturday, September 28th, 2019 at 12:30pm. We arrived 20 minutes early to make sure we were on time. My husband parked the car, and we waited until ten minutes before his scheduled appointment, at which point he got out of the car to talk to the male examiner on site while I waited in the car. The examiner told my husband that he was the next in line for his test, and that someone would approach us when it was his turn to begin the examination. The male examiner then left to conduct the examination for another student. Meanwhile, a female examiner returned after completing the examination for another person. My husband got out of the car to talk to her, at which point, she stated that my husband was her student, but that she was running late, and that she had to leave at 1:00pm. She then stated that another examiner would be administering his road test. Each examiner proceeded to administer a road test to another student while we waited. It was 1:20pm before both instructors returned and the female instructor began looking quizzically over at our vehicle, as if we after such a long delay, we should somehow clairvoyantly know that it was time for my husband's examination. My husband got out of the car to talk with the examiner, and without even a rudimentary apology for being an hour late. Without so much as introducing herself, she commenced the examination by asking my husband if he'd taken the road test before, to which he replied that it was his first time. She then stated that he looked 'familiar,' and that he looked like someone who had taken the test with her last week. My husband reiterated that it was his first time to take the test. She then asked him who had taught him to drive, to which he replied, "a friend, actually my husband, who is standing over there," as he motioned toward me. She paused for a moment, as if taken aback, and then asked, "So..., your partner?" Which my husband thought to be an odd response, but simply replied, "Yes." After the parking portion, she got into the car and they drove off to do the driving portion. At all times, my husband was polite and respectful to her, despite her inconveniencing us with her tardiness. During the ride, my husband acknowledged her instructions with a "thank you" each time one was given. At one point, he asked her if she wanted him to go straight through an intersection and she replied in a condescending manner that he was to continue driving straight unless she told him otherwise. Ultimately, the examiner failed him because he didn't stop at an empty crosswalk, with people standing motionless, nearby on the sidewalk. She screamed at him to stop. Upon their return to the test site and learning that she planned to fail him, I suggested that we review the dash cam footage. The dash cam footage clearly shows that my husband was cautiously slowing the vehicle as he approached the crosswalk, and only after he slammed on the breaks and stopped at her screamed command, did the people standing on the sidewalk step off the curb. As we were about to show the examiner the dash cam video, she refused to look at it and said his failure to stop at the empty crosswalk was an automatic fail and that looking at the dash cam wouldn't change her mind, at which point, she exited the vehicle without reviewing the footage, nor providing any pass/fail documentation, or even a receipt. She was gone before we could even ask about documentation. We called the school. Suhail answered. He said she should have given my husband a receipt, and that we could stop by the school to get one, which we proceeded to do. Upon arriving at the school, the door was locked and Suhail was nowhere in sight, but the female examiner was visible through the window. She stared at us for several minutes before coming to the door to find out what we wanted. We told her we were there to pick up the receipt, which she had earlier failed to provide. We asked where Suhail was, and she said he had left. She proceeded to hand over a receipt. At that point we took the opportunity to confront her about her lack of professionalism and rudeness for making a client wait for over an hour past the scheduled time of his appointment. Astonishingly, rather than apologize for her tardiness, she stated that it was her belief that "I think you're prejudiced," (her words exactly) as she shut the door and locked it in our faces. Prejudiced against what? We're not sure. Our advice is to avoid the toxic environment at this business at all costs. read more

I had the best experience taking my test with them. The test was given to me by a lady, she was beyond kind, made me feel comftable and even took the time to give me advice after the test was done. The test was straight forward and the car they have for rent is new and easy to use. I can't recommend this place enough, if you have any doubts about going with this place I am here to reasure this is THE place to give your money to they are not out to just get your money. The first question the examiner asked was 'how many lessons did you take with my son?'. During the test, the woman shouted at my fiancé, and deducted points for being +- 3 mph of the speed limit. They only take cash, and their car has problems with its power steering. read more

Fantastic experience with Ann Arbor Driving School. I went from zero knowledge of driving to having my license in a month thanks to Suhail. I was a very nervous adult driver. He was patient, composed, and reassuring; provided clear instructions throughout; helped me to develop and gradually improve each of my skills; answered all my questions (and I had many); and gave me helpful feedback on things to improve each time. He also worked hard to ensure that I felt confident and was always driving safe. I couldn't be happier with the way the lessons went. Scheduling the road test online was super easy. The testing location is convenient to get to. I also think I do a pretty good job with parallel parking now. As an added bonus, lessons and tests with them means supporting a family-owned business. I had a wonderful experience with the driving instructor and the road test examiner. The only reason I took out a star is because of the horrible car (Saturn) that I had to use for the test. This is one of the most unprofessional business I have ever had to deal with. After scheduling an appointment, I waited for 1 1/2 hours outside their office and no one showed up. I left multiple messages and was only contacted 3 hours later by the man who owns/ runs the school. He was not only extremely rude but also dishonest and blamed me for the mistake before hanging up on me. My daughter was able to obtain her license after two private instructions. Both the young man that did the training and the woman that conducted the road test were kind, helpful and professional. I searched for driving schools in Ann Arbor and this was one of the first listings that showed up. On their website it said that for a two hour session they will pick you up. When I called, the person who answered was really annoyed that someone had called him. He sounded very dismissive about the options I gave him that would be the ideal time for me. Nonetheless, I scheduled an 8:00 am session and he asked me to come to his office. Upon asking whether he would pick up (according to the website), he said - "That's only for certain times - not 8 am. Come to my office." - and then kept the phone down before I could confirm whether I was ok with coming to his office that early in the morning. My experience was very positive. I was driving with a female instructor, who was nice and professional. I had my driving lessons in two-hours blocks in the morning from 8 till 10, with a pick-up at home and a drop-off at my workplace. For me it all worked perfect. read more

These people are some of the rudest and most unprofessional I've ever encountered, not just in business, but in life. I've had two experiences with this company, about eight years apart, with identical results. First, they were over 20 minutes late and didn't apologize. The first time I encountered them was years ago, and I ended up canceling on the spot due to extreme rudeness. The second time, I was just there to give someone a ride, but was insulted and challenged, "What are you doing here?" within 5 seconds. Uh, excuse me, there are people coming and going all morning you uptight jerk, I'm just helping out a friend. They know that people need them to pass their driving test, so go out of their way to lord it over you the entire time. These people are truly pathetic and deserve to go out of business. I have a foreign license but needed an American one. So I took a 2-hour driving lesson on the 18th of December with Naheel . She was extremely patient, helpful, competent, and a very good and effective instructor. She taught me all about the road rules, parking strategies, and even helped me overcome my fear of driving on the highway. I took the road test a few days after the lesson and passed it on the first try itself. I was a little nervous because of the rule that Naheel could not administer the road-test for me. But her husband, who did the road test, was also very fair and professional. My passing the road test would not have been possible without the excellent and patient coaching provided by Naheel during my lesson. I highly recommend this company to all new drivers, especially if you are an adult-driver who needs to get a US license. read more

I had never driven before and didn't know a lot about driving. I had 2 lessons before the teacher said I was too inexperienced and to come back once I have had more experience. I was driving with him to gain experience behind the wheel! I was so mad. My teacher just pointed out what I did wrong, he didn't mention what to do next time. He basically said that he won't teach me anymore and I should go find somewhere else to learn. I did and I am much happier now. read more

I took the road test with the lady. She was very rude just from the beginning to the end. She shouts at me and makes me nervous and inevitably I made mistakes. I couldn't pass the test because of the mistakes I made, it is my fault but I didn't deserve that attitude at all. I bet that a guardian in a prison is more polite than this lady. For me, this driving school is good. I had gone to one other driving school which was not as good as this one. Dean helped me with parking practice and driving on the highway. I was comfortable driving on the road but little scared to drive on the highway. I was not good at parking but Dean made me practice it and I was so happy to pass the driving test. Driving test was taken by the lady who I think is a nice person. I was nervous at the beginning of the test but the lady made me feel better. I would recommend this driving school. read more

For the love of all that is good, GO ELSEWHERE. Be warned: I was told there is normally a $20 fee for showing up without all your papers in order, but I was like "hah. no." and left. I dealt with the woman for the driving test. She was the single most shockingly awful person I have ever had the displeasure of being within 5 meters of in my life and I'm glad I escaped before I actually had to take the test. Extremely rude, condescending, and downright vile. I'm certain she would have failed me so I would have to take another test. I'm an adult in my mid 20s and she talked to me and my partner like we were children. I honestly don't know how they're still in business. I can't imagine taking the driving test under those conditions, it's stressful and likely to cause you to make mistakes. Please go somewhere else. read more

I took four lessons. I found the male instructor to be thorough, and helpful. However, he can get impatient and yell at the student. Also, the car was pretty filthy. Instructor took a 10 minute break for himself during lesson, cut lessons at the end also short by 10 additional minutes. Instructor also had me take a dangerous turn after a stop sign into incoming traffic and I narrowly missed a collision, which was pretty scary. He then stopped the car in the middle of the street as I continued to drive to complain I was over the speed limit instead of telling me to slow down-also pretty dangerous. From minute ONE, these people made the worst possible impression. The tester was 20 minutes late, unapologetic, rude, and made no effort to respond to our own personal introductions or exhibit any professional manners whatsoever. His assistant, who took a different student through their test, made no effort to acknowledge our presence and was impertinent about our inquiry as to where our own tester was, 10 minutes into our wait. She acted as if nothing were out of the ordinary, so this must be their common practice. The tester took the money from my child before I got into the car to accompany them on the road. I would have insisted on reducing the payment, but the money was already in his pocket. At the end of the test I spoke my mind and suggested ways in which they could improve on their customer service, which was clearly not well received by this individual. I had heard negative stories about these people from others, but since none of the other driving schools were offering road tests when we needed one, I went with them anyway. I would NEVER treat a client the way we were treated. I would advise people to wait for another company's availability, make sure you understand the procedure BEFORE you go, pay the tester directly AFTER the test, and above all, do NOT support the business of these extremely rude people. read more

yesterday i passed an AA Driving School car and when i looked in my rear view mirror, it had suddenly shifted from the right lane to the left. i assumed it must be turning at the next intersection; but it didn't. it continued to drive slowly in the left land - which is at least discourteous. the instructor had clearly told the young student. i was able to make a turn that took me back behind them to get the name and phone number. when i reached their rear bumper, the driver started to move into my lane. i braked hard and hit my horn briefly. no harm/no foul. but i thought the owner of the school should know about the instructor teaching bad driving etiquete so i looked over to get the info from atop their car. when i did, the instructor gave me the finger. after i wrote down the info i looked again to make sure it was correct. the instructor have me the finger again. this may not be the place to send your student. read more
