Tickled Fancy's troupe is made up of lovely, expressive ladies not afraid to strip their clothes off to music in the truest burlesque style, mixing charm and a touch of coy smarm. Laughter is welcome with these delightful dolls. Their routines split between groups and solo performances, covering a gamut of different styles; mermaids and sailors opened our act, with all the posturing, fin-fanning, and peering over giant aviator sunglasses at heaving bosoms an audience could want. A hula-hoop wearing clown stripped down to her striped-sock skivvies, and that girl was adorable. I've never wanted sparkly red glitter-lipstick so badly after seeing the hostess of events shining in the limelight; that's a good thing, right? The piece de resistance was the superhero choreography where villains and heroes of DC Comics squared off on the stage. Robin, Batman, Catwoman (I think) and Poison Ivy duel in a feat of swaying hips, thrown punches, and dangling ornaments from pasties (yes, the bat symbol.). Poison Ivy stole the show on that one for me, though everyone was fantastic; I guess I've got a thing for deadly redheads with voluptuous curves and a killer "POW!" She certainly gets a lot of variety. He goes above and beyond to arrange music to her level by either enhancing a piece or simplifying it for her. If she doesn't have the music for a song they wish to work on, he has gone out of his way to hunt down the music, and then arrange it individually for her. I especially love the duets they do together on the piano, but in addition, she certainly learns pieces by herself. He has taken a child who knew absolutely nothing about playing piano, and turned her into to a child learning songs using both hands simultaneously. The studio has private practice rooms with a window in the door. I am able to peek in on her lesson at any time I wish to see how she is doing. Jeff also explains to me as a parent what she should be working on at home, and how she is progressing. My daughter also started dance at Michigan Academy this past fall. Michigan Academy went out of their way to welcome her also as a dance student. Mrs. Lisa and all the dance teachers are extremely approachable. I can not even put into words how refreshing that is. When choosing a dance studio, I have learned that it is extremely important to know that the staff are approachable. They really welcome all questions and take their time with all students and their families in a professional manner. This makes for a comfortable environment that students thrive in, and parents also feel comfortable because we as parents are never left in the dark and everything is always explained. Truly stress free. You can tell immediately that they really truly care about all students in regards to their dance education, empowering the child's self esteem, and helping them grow as individuals, even outside of dance. The dance teachers at Michigan Academy also go above and beyond. Recently, when my daughter asked what she could work on at home to improve, Mrs.Rebecca went out of her way and made a list of ideas for her that she could do at home. She gave her suggestions, such as, straddle split rolls and barre work that she could do on her own time. As you can see, the dance teachers really take the time to help the students with their individual dance goals. Michigan Academy is a place for all ages and all levels! First, I purchased a four class Groupon to test the waters with my finicky 4 year old. But the "auditions" to participate in their JUNE recital (five months away) were before the lessons even started. We were told that unless we paid the 16 week tuition before the lessons started, we couldn't participate in the recital. But then, a month later in I get an invoice showing a recital costume on it, because SURPRISE! Planning a 3 minute recital for a small group of four year olds doesn't actually require five months of vigorous planning. So much pressure to purchase over nothing. That was the first red flag that this place is a bust. Second, we started in late-January and two weeks in there was a snow day, then the following week they were closed for winter break. So within a month of the winter term starting, we had only had two lessons. Meanwhile, I'm getting emails reminding me to pay my balance pretty much since the first lesson. I started to wonder why they put their business on Groupon if they're not going to give people adequate time to decide if they want to commit and purchase their services? Red flag #2. Third, and this seems petty, but when I finally followed the link to see what my tuition balance was, I saw they spelled my daughter's name wrong. It's not a complicated spelling either, so I'm not sure what the issue was here. She was also put into a Wednesday class, when I clearly enrolled her in (and had been bringing her to) a Saturday class. My enrollment was done over the phone, so maybe the person I spoke to just wasn't listening to me. Either way, red flag #3. Forth, and the BIGGEST red flag was that they charged my credit card $200 without my authorization. To enroll in classes you need to provide a credit card number, but they promise nothing is charged without authorization. Up until now I was willing to just let all the nonsense go to see my daughter all cute up there on a stage. But now? No. This place is ridiculous, disorganized, and I will not be giving them my business. And I urge you to think twice before you give them yours, too.

I am 50 years old, overweight, and about as flexible as a broomstick. I have had ZERO dance or gymnastics training in my life. I've never done the splits or even a pullup. In just a mere 3 months of Lyra classes, Aerial Dragonfly had me performing a wide variety of moves, poses, and flows in the Lyra, and they helped me develop so much conviction in my abilities, my body type, and my age. I became stronger and much more confident, and with the encouragement of my instructors and new friends, I participated in their spring Student Showcase. I was literally performing in front of a large, supportive crowd after THREE MONTHS of learning and practicing at the Aerial Dragonfly. It was amazing! This studio offers a variety of modalities, including aerial hammock, aerial yoga, pole dancing, Lyra, trapeze, aerial silks and more. I plan on trying everything! I can see muscle definition like never before in my legs, it's crazy. The yoga classes are great. I really enjoy the Yin class, it's my hour of mental health each week. My friend got me started on Yoga Basics. It's not necessarily an easy class but rather focuses on the right posture. As someone whose journey to Yoga started at bigger gyms this is really important to me. They take the time to explain the proper positions and if you are off they will tell you how to correct it. (After an IT injury, I've learned the importance of posture!). There are a several classes I haven't tried like Booty Bunz and gym sticks that people love. There is also tighten and tone that I like but totally kicks my butt. Zumba is fun and I recommend trying out different instructors because they all have their own take on things.
