If you think you can't get into aerial arts because you're not flexible, you're not terribly strong, you have no dance or gymnastics training, or (my favorite) you're too old...read on. I am 50 years old, overweight, and about as flexible as a broomstick. I have had ZERO dance or gymnastics training in my life. I've never done the splits or even a pullup. My upper body strength is lacking. And sometimes I lack confidence in myself. In just a mere 3 months of Lyra classes, Aerial Dragonfly had me performing a wide variety of moves, poses, and flows in the Lyra, and they helped me develop so much conviction in my abilities, my body type, and my age. I became stronger and much more confident, and with the encouragement of my instructors and new friends, I participated in their spring Student Showcase. I was literally performing in front of a large, supportive crowd after THREE MONTHS of learning and practicing at the Aerial Dragonfly. It was amazing! I've *never* been in a community that was so instantly supportive, fun, encouraging, and gentle. I've spent time with 4-5 instructors and learned something new every time. I love this studio! Such a welcoming place to go and move my body in a different way. I love learning new things and I've been wanting to try aerial work. I'm proud to support a woman owned business and a Veteran owned business. I've taken two lessons so far: Lyra (aerial hoop) and trapeze. Both of my lessons have been with Dari. She is one of the owners and she's amazing! Such a patient and kind teacher. I felt instantly welcomed in the space. Such a spacious and beautiful studio! There is a parking lot too. This studio offers a variety of modalities, including aerial hammock, aerial yoga, pole dancing, Lyra, trapeze, aerial silks and more. I plan on trying everything! Plenty of mats and things to stay safe. It's easy to book classes online through their website, and they offer packages too. These are private lessons, and the prices are very reasonable. My daughters went for the first time last week. They had such a blast. They've been stuck in the house for such a long time and it was wonderful seeing them smile, excel, and grow!!!! The girls took a silks class with Elisabeth. By the end of it they were already flipping upside down. It looked so fun. We will be returning next week. I ended up buying them 4 more lessons. When you bundle your classes you save quite a bit. Everyone in the studio had on a mask which helped us feel safer!!! read more

I took a pole dancing class here for a bachelorette party. First of all I think it's amazing that Shadow Duffy is the real name of the instructor we had. Totally awesome. The class was pretty good - she taught us a routine and then just gave us a lot of time to practice. I would have liked a little more guidance, but it was okay. I am not quite sure why Page C. feels so isolated. Put the race card away and put on your grown up pants. This isn't social hour. I have been to studios EVERYWHERE when I travel and NO ONE is your BFF on your first class. If you knew anything about the circus/aerial community you would know it's inclusive and very open to all walks of life. You grow in camaraderie as you attend a studio frequently. So go frequently. But I don't go to studios to review them on being friends with me... so here's my review... Pros: I think this place is GREAT for newbies. If you are new to aerial this is an awesome jumping off point. They have different sessions where you work through and advance. They are priced reasonably. The classes are SMALL. The instructors ( I had Alexa, Elektra and Dari for different classes) were all professional, WELCOMING and supportive through class. They had the class times I wanted and they are over an hour long which is awesome. They have a lot of apparatuses. Cons: It was too basic for me all around and I wish the instructors had given me some challenging add-ons to work on so that things were more on a sliding scale for ability (higher apparatus, more moves, harder conditioning, etc). I was definitely bored. Again, this studio is LOVELY. I heard she is opening another studio space with higher ceilings and I think that is awesome! I would not take these classes again for my skillset but I would definitely try another class here if it was intermediate+. read more

I recently visited Aerial Dragonfly Movement studio when I was visiting the Detroit area and was very impressed. I had three lessons and each one was so much fun and engaging. Dari did a wonderful job of breaking the moves down into very manageable pieces that were easy to learn and I appreciated that she was able to work within some of my movement and flexibility restrictions to find ways to teach me a new move but one that I could comfortably repeat on my own. My friend JT and I checked this place out after signing up for the Intro to Aerial Silks class on their website. The staff were welcoming and friendly. We signed a waiver and watched the staff play on the silks since we arrived early. When class started, we were led in some stretches and went around to do introductions. Afterwards, we split off into 3 groups, depending on our experience. JT and I were in the day one group along with another participant. Brittney was our instructor, who we shared with the day two group. I didn't mind sharing an instructor since she was working with the group next to us and she was still keeping an eye on us but I would've still preferred an instructor to solely focus on our day one group, especially since there were instructors that were not teaching at that time. Brittney was patient with us, explaining steps clearly and re-demonstrated moves to us. She also made sure we were safe and gave us tips for landing or how to preform certain moves. We started off with the hardest, climbing up! Then we did some back flips and standing poses. Each pose was built sequentially and Brittney made sure we were comfortable with each move before we moved on. We ended with a cocoon move which was nice. I enjoyed the workout and stretching. As a first timer, I thought I would struggle a lot more since I don't have any upper body or core strength but I found the class very manageable and fun. There's cubbies for your belongings and a bathroom too. You're required to take your shoes off when you arrive (you won't need your socks either). Remember to take off your jewelry and wear tight fitting clothes that cover your underarms, waist and the backs of your knees! read more

Yes, I've been to a few pole dancing classes. I'm sure Rush Limbaugh would have something interesting to say about that, but ... whatever. I've been to a couple of different spots in the Detroit Suburbs, and I have to say, Pole Addiction is my favorite. Pole Addiction is a great Pole Dancing studio because they start new classes every four weeks, meaning you start with other girls who have no idea how to gracefully swing from a pole. This really quelled my nerves; at the other studio I'd gone to, there were women in the class who could hang upside down on spinning poles by their big toes. Okay, maybe not by their big toes. But they were experienced, and it made the learning environment tense. At Pole Addiction, there are no mirrors on the walls. This means that instead of doing your best to look sexy, you actually learn the pole tricks. You learn the way it feels to spin around a pole, the way it feels to invert yourself, the way it feels to squat down and get up sexy. You're not worried about the way your hair looks or the way your hips roll. Another great part of Pole Addiction is the easy-going teachers. Most of these women have never been strippers; they just realize the exercise benefits of swinging around a pole. Most of the teachers are former dancers. They're very helpful, provide one-on-one attention when needed, and foster a sense of community where every woman is celebrated, no matter her skill level. I went to a beginning level class, taught by the enthusiastic and helpful Cindy, and met women ages 18 - 40, of all body types. I had a great time at Pole Addiction and will definitely go back for another class when I can afford it. read more

Pole Addiction and Aerial Dragonfly is a interesting marriage of circus arts and pole dancing. I have worked personally with Jessica Reynolds the owner as well as many of her instructors. I have to say, the really cool thing about this group of women is that they continue to challenge them in their own journey - they didn't just get to the level they are at and stop, NO! These women continue working on awe inspiring tricks, as if they needed anymore. I have took a Burlesque Class with the one and only Lushes Lamoan. Lushes is very fun, she doesn't take anything too seriously and she makes you laugh. Trust me when I tell you that burlesque is a challenging for of dance - you are trying to smile, be sexy, move and take gloves off all at once! Lushes sense of humor makes you feel instantly at ease and she will go over everything as many times as you need. Outside if the fun, I learned a lot about the history and art of this style of dance. Lushes riddles her class with lots of fun trivia about who invented moves or styles and talks about the greats of burlesque. I have also taken part in the weekly Flight Club. Flight Club is basically open time where students and instructors get together for an open play time. I got to experiment with the Aerial Hoop a lot during this time and as someone who had never been on one I was fairly intimidated but Jessica, Shadow and Tara made me feel comfortable and showed me a few things without concern as to if I was going to take a class or not. They freely shared their tricks with everyone and if you get stuck - they will help you! They aren't going to leave you hanging literally because it's a practice time. The pole instructors all have varying styles of dance which is great because you can easily find an instructor who challenges you, another who inspires you and yet another that dances like you. Because they have a specific curriculum, you can easily take classes with everyone and get many different perspectives on pole tricks. read more

I've only taken once class so far at Aerial Dragonfly Movement Studio, but I liked it enough that I've signed up for more. Six years ago I unfortunately had to leave my first pole studio because I moved. I tried a new, local studio in Oakland County that I was not at all happy with. I couldn't find anything else nearby for years, so I was thrilled when I first heard about Aerial Dragonfly! My beginner pole class with Mia was a ton of fun. She is a personal trainer so I felt completely safe with her instructing me, knowing she understands the limits of the human body and would not ask me to do anything that could really injure me. Mia's class is 15 minutes longer than other classes I've been to for the same cost, and she uses this time to have students do a full stretch and warm up. I really appreciated this element of the class. The other students seem friendly enough, and everyone is very encouraging of one another. Mia gives each student personal attention during class. She has dancers of all different levels working on skills at the same time. She teaches on a spinning pole, static pole, and something unique out of all of the 3 studios I've been to - a Chinese pole (rubber coated)! The studio is cute and they offer many different classes - pole, trapeze, lyra, silks, an so on. One thing that may ward off potential students was the availability of only 3 poles. This concerned me at first, but it actually was no problem at all. It seems that they only book so that a max of 2 people have to share 1 pole during class. Some of the pole tricks are pretty exhausting and it's necessary to take a break after attempting them. Another student could hop on the pole during the first student's break. There wasn't a lot of standing and waiting around like I worried there would be. Tip to any college students - if you're a penny pincher like myself, the studio does offer a student discount on drop-in classes! Overall, I'm very happy with my experience and really looking forward to taking more classes. read more

I visited Pole Addiction for there Open Anniversary showcase a couple months back. It was cool that they offer burlesque and aerial in addition to the pole classes. I wasn't fond of the pole class as the presentation looked as if they just learned, not took a sequence of classes. My 2 stars are for the fact they offer burlesque by Luscious La moan including how to "make" pasties. I had bought a Groupon to try the Aerial basic classes, but never got to use it after following the website directions and sending 3 emails & a voicemail with no response. I only finally got a reply after contacting Groupon for a refund. Magically I got a call from the owner who didn't bothering apologizing for the lack of communication, proceeded to not honor it for what it was (it was not expired) and in the end lost a potential long term customer. Other studios I've visited have a communication turnaround of 24 hrs. or less (email or phone) which makes it easy to schedule. I'd like to review the actually classes, but yeah I can't see me spending my $$$ at Pole Addiction. read more

I stumbled upon Pole Addiction & Aerial Dragonfly during a rough transition period in my life when I could no longer participate in competitive figure skating. I came to a beginner aerial silks class and was immediately hooked. These instructors and lessons are thorough and comprehensive. The instructors work with you step by step at your pace. They are genuinely good people who guide and encourage you every step of the way. I would also HIGHLY recommend taking private lessons that they offer for aerial silks and lyra, where you can work more in depth on things you learned in class. The silks private lessons I have been taking with Hannah since January have GREATLY improved my technique, strength and stamina on the silks. There is also an option to split the cost of a private lesson with a friend. I'm so thankful to have this place in my life! read more

I'd hate to give this place three stars given that I only dropped in once for Silk Conditioning. I've been meaning to find a new outlet for fitness (and a community) and I happened to come across Aerial Dragonfly Movement. I read each of the wonderful reviews, looked on their website, stalked their Instagram page and raved about the upcoming experience with my boyfriend and mother. I registered the same day for this class as a drop in and wasn't anticipating the following things. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by an instructor. She was friendly but I felt this strange atmosphere as soon as I stepped in-- she handed me a waiver to sign and we started our stretches. Apparently I seemed to be the only new student, so our instructor asked us to introduce ourselves, which we did. But I didn't feel welcomed as I thought I would be. None of the women in the class even bothered to get to know me, except for my parter during warm ups who was kind enough to wanted to be partnered with me. He was the only guy there. Other than that, I felt really lonely, and that disappointed me a lot because I came in with such an expectant spirit. As friendly as the instructors were, their advice and help were average. Given that I was completely new to fitness. Maybe I should've booked a private class? Maybe it's just me. I thought it was me until I came into work today and exchanged my stories with a co-worker who so happened to take one class at this place and had the same experience as me which discouraged her from ever going again. She said she cried after the class because of everything she felt being new and no one bothered to genuinely welcome her in. It's a shame because I enjoyed all the stretches, warm ups, and workouts we did. I had a really good burn after and I felt really good waking up. It was just the environment and hoping to find "family"-- I hate pulling out the minority card... but that's what I honestly felt. If it's not me being minority, it's probably because I was such a noob. I hope this doesn't come across as negative, but as a review that's taken seriously with constructive criticism.
