Guns can be scary and unpredicable in the hands of uneducated users. I wanted to be comfortable with gun again and be informed to help other women/friends that are of my same mindset. I want to understand how to use, keep, and carry in the most safe and responsible way. Ann Arbor Arms is THE BEST range, store, and training facility for anyone from novice to professional/competitive shooter. It had been YEARS since I had handled a firearm. My biggest apprehension was if I could remember how to be safe from handling to firing to range. I joined A3 as an elite member last year but finally "pulled the trigger" (hehe) and signed up for a Ladies' Night last week. This was the best decision I could have made to reintroduce myself. Ladies' Night was from 5-7pm, with two hours of instruction and walk through before heading down to the range. Not only instruction but conversation, snacks and a safe space for women to ask any questions. A3 provided the sidearms and ammo. Everyone had a great time and was able to fire 12 shots at a target provided. I left with a lot more confidence to visit and expand my skill by leveraging the elite membership. I cannot say enough of how fantastic A3 is for a gun owner. They have tons of specials, sales, events and the membership perks are amazing. This was not my first visit or class but this was the first time I ever fired at this range. Hit me up if you have any questions or want to get a membership. Use my name and I'd get a referral bonus on my membership too ;) Definitely worth checking it out. read more

The staff is very knowledgeable but not pushy to make a sale. They have a wide variety but can also order you something special if you need to. Everything from pistols, suppressors, reloading material and now they even have watches, knives, and clothing. The range staff keeps a close eye on the range and addresses issues to prevent a safety issue. The ranges are temperature controlled and in great working order. They are suitable for pistol or initial rifle setup but you really need an outdoor 100 yard range if you want to dial in for hunting. I have not taken any classes there yet but have heard good things from others. They can take your from the basics to advanced. I see the shooters who have taken classes and it shows. read more

I've been patronizing (big Ann Arbory word, I know) AAA since the very beginning; since the grand opening of the original store further down (or is that up) Jackson Rd. I have never had anything but a positive experience. The range, the classes (thanks Harley), the selection, the purchasing experience, and even selling my own guns, all great. Ann Arbor Arms is an absolute treasure, especially given that their name and geographic location is shared with one of Michigan's most hoplophobic cities. Hey, another Ann Arbory word, how many points is that? Anyway, give 'em a shot (pun intended). read more

I absolutely love the crew at Ann Arbor Arms! They are friendly, incredibly knowledgable and all around fabulous people! This is the only place on the planet other than a race car shop that I love spending my money in! read more

A great place with a bunch of super nice, intelligent people. Very helpful with all aspects of firearms, optics, silencers, accessories and repairs. Everyone there works as a team... If one person can't answer your question another is ready to step in and help! Nice selection of new, used and consigned firearms (yes they will even sell your guns for you!) it's one stop shopping! Lots of optics, parts, and accessories... If you haven't been there, you need to stop by. read more

I've been a member for about 4 years now. Recently I had to cancel because I moved but otherwise was perfectly happy with the staff and services/products available. The selection of guns was well kept, the different holsters, shirts, bags, etc were usually well stocked and organized. Theres a wide variety of classes and events. If you forced me to nit pick something, the staff seems a little overwhelmed during large events which to me is to be expected. read more

This review is coming from the perspective of someone who's only been shooting handguns for one week. I took an introductory class at AAA and have shot there four days since. I've had great experiences every time there. The class was thorough, and the instructor very personable and encouraging. Strong emphasis on safety and shooting fundamentals. Two days later I picked up a .22 semiauto, got a basic AAA membership, and started shooting. After 3 days I decided I'd like to try a larger gun. To rent a gun there, you need to qualify for it with a shooting test. I scheduled the test for this morning and came in ready to get the feel for a 9mm. So I thought. I go the the range with one of the staff, who hands me the gun, and to my embarrassment I was not able to load it--it was arranged just differently enough from the ones I've used so far to throw me off. So my qualifying test is put off and I'm led back to the range check-in counter to figure out the next step. I've already invested in the gun rental + 100 rounds of 9mm ammo, and I was worried it might be money down the drain. Not to mention I was feeling like a dork. But, someone at the range check-in suggested a mini-lesson, gratis, that would prep me for the qualifier. So up to the classroom then back to the range it was. The qualifier required that I put 20/20 shots in the center of the target at 5 yards. No biggie for an experienced shooter, I'm sure, but I was assuming I'd bomb. Which I kind of did...I managed 19/20, but my observer let me slide. AAA's slogan is "putting people first." Today I see that's more than just a slogan. read more

Very knowledgeable and personable sales staff!!! Have shopped and shot here for years. Top tier people with a wealth of knowledge that always take care of me and the people I bring in. The classes they put on are next level and have always walked away feeling like I learned something valuable. The instructor staff are comprised of consummate professionals) that offer training from the first time someone ever picks up a firearm to the upper levels weapons handling. If you want to become a better shooter this is the place to be!! Robbie Tores and Kraig Kourt just to name a couple I've had an outstanding experience learning from!! I can't say enough great things about A3. If you've made it this far just put your phone away and get over to A3 for an amazing shooting / shopping experience that you won't find anywhere else around!! read more

I've shopped at this store since they first opened and have to say that their sales team is terrible. Just because you're a gun dude doesn't mean you're a salesperson. I am not a super shooter yet I do my research on what I'm looking for. I've had so many basic questions in that store and never have bought a single item due to the incompetence. I feel like I'm shopping in Best buy and people are reading the sales tag instead of answering from information they know. Here's a crazy idea, hire good salespeople instead of just gun fellas. read more

Nice store with average prices but don't expect to get correct descriptions of high end 1911's unless you speak with a specialist. I was giving serious consideration to one when I got turned off by someone whose ego was too big to admit I knew more than he did about one they had in stock. He was wrong in his description (I have 2 so I know he was wrong), and when he realized I knew more than he did, he politely excused himself. I wasn't done shopping and if he would have admitted he didn't know the answer rather than try to play it off like he knew the answer, he might have made an actual sale. I guess guys sometimes don't like that a woman know more about something than they do. It's a shame. I just happen to study up on models I like and wasn't acting cocky or arrogant as I don't have anything to prove. Smh I guess I won't be going back any time soon. read more

I signed up for a membership here last September and cancelled after two months of only going a handful of times and not having the money to afford an expensive membership ($40/mo!!!!). I called to cancel my membership and it seemed everything went accordingly but I recently realized they never cancelled my membership, seemingly due to a technicality in the contract where the cancellation has to be "written". When I try to cancel now they insist I pay a $150 cancellation fee, which is more expensive than if I were to just pay for the rest of my membership. (I should note, there was absolutely no verbal mention of any of this when I signed up for my membership with one of the in store recruiters, and felt rushed by the whole process so I didn't get a chance to fully read the lengthy contract). Unless you're rich and don't care about getting scammed, I would HIGHLY NOT recommend becoming a member here. There are plenty of shooting ranges in the Ann Arbor area which are the same (or even better) than Ann Arbor Arms, for MUCH cheaper, and actually care about you as a member and not just your money. All in all I'm out $480 on membership fees and literally only went twice. Sorry if this turned into a rant and I also understand that is ultimately my fault and that I should have given more time to read the WHOLE contract and not gotten rushed by the in store representative, but not mentioning a $150 cancellation fee and making it seem like my membership was cancelled when it really wasn't is too much of a scam for me to not to be angry. Also - I should note that the membership coordinator (I won't name drop anyone) was completely unhelpful and seemed to make no effort in making amends. Hopefully this review makes you think twice about who you trust your business and money with. Cheers read more

Very professionally run shop. Excellent staff with respect to both both training and firearm sales/service. The team is patient with novice shooters and big on safety which is great! The classes are informative and the atmosphere is conducive to learning -- no bad questions read more

I'm changing my review to 7 stars. I have now taken two training classes from A3 staff, and I have entered the first stage of firearms enlightenment : I do not need more hardware, I need more training. Training with these guys in their indoor ranges is the best thing in the world. This is not a gun store, it's a firearms training camp that also sells guns. *Extremely* knowledgeable people who are also good teachers. I greatly doubt there is another place like A3 in this entire galaxy. (And I've been around...) Drop whatever you are doing and look at their class schedule, get a membership, and sign up for a class. (OK -- *then* you can buy more hardware. ) read more

Warning, to non-members, there are better places to practice. I have never been to a shooting range where they did not offer proper hearing protection with the cost of a lane rental. I did not like what I saw on the web that indicates you can't use your own ammo. And while that is not true in all cases, how the hell to they even allow folks onto the lane with just ear plugs? Both policies reek of elitism, either Ann Arbor elitism (everyone has money) or member only elitism (the rest of you suck). NOW I AM IN TREATMENT FOR HEARING DAMAGE GETTING STEROID INJECTIONS IN MY EAR DRUMS. But Ann Arbor Arms will be fine, they've got that locked up in their very long and legal waiver. They guy on the next lane with the magnum is not worried either. I am a novice, I own my own gun but never experienced having to buy proper hearing protection. Thanks for the dismissive, crappy, hearing damaging, terrible service experience, wont be back, proximity to home not withstanding. read more

My gun buying experience there was fairly fast and easy. I bought a used pistol so yeah they can be dirty. However, when I fully dissembled it, it was filthy! I can't believe they don't even clean the used guns a little bit. Even a little bit of cleaning would of been appreciated. read more

New shooter here/ member here and wasn't offered ear protection twice. Now I have tinnitus... learned my lesson.

Amazing place! Impeccable service. I am very new to this sport and they made us feel completely at ease. We will be back ASAP!

It's nice to have a great sporting gun store in Ann Arbor. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and they have a great selection of good quality stuff. Not the typical junk stuff they sell at other places. I can't wait to try out the gun range. Another great experience here. Bought a new Glock41 and it was professional and courteous. My favorite gun store. read more

Frustrating. In from out of town, we thought it could be a good occasion to take some family members who had never been shooting before to teach them about it. We called to learn more about the range. We were told the hours (open until 5pm on this day) and staff answered our additional questions about how many people in a lane, the cost, how you could shoot for half an hour or an hour, etc. We piled the fam in the car and arrived at 4:10 where we were promptly informed by range staff that the last shooter went out to the range at 4pm. I said we were told the range didn't close until 5pm and explained we only wanted to shoot for half an hour and we'd be out before closing time. He again refused, stating the range closes at 5pm but reiterating that the last shooter on the range goes out an hour before closing. Well. It would have been nice to be informed of this when we called to ask about the hours of the range before piling everyone in the car for an hour-long round trip to do nothing. When we're told #1) The range closes at 5pm and #2) you can shoot for 1/2 an hour.... I don't think it's a crazy assumption to think you can walk in at 4:10pm and have time to shoot. If this hour-ahead business is a firm rule, then anyone calling with questions about the range should be advised of such a policy. read more

To begin with the positive, it's a very nice retail space. A younger man was very helpful showing the Daniel Defense rifles in stock. I and another man drove an hour and a half just to try out the new indoor range. Unfortunately, I won't be back. The two middle aged women working the range desk were not just unfriendly, but very rude! I've never experience worse customer service at range before. I was given the liability waiver and proceeded to fill it out when they said I needed to watch a safety video. After roughly 10 seconds of looking through the waiver at the range desk I was very rudely told, "Did you hear her? Go over there and watch the safety video!" Yes ma'am, how could anyone not hear you? There is absolutely no reason why any customer should be talked to like that. After that, we both ask for our drivers licenses back and simply walked out. Remember, I, yes I, am the customer. I don't owe your range desk employees anything. I had planned on taking advanced classes since I'm a concealed carry holder, but will take my business elsewhere. I don't appreciate being talked to like a piece of trash. Please give your range desk employees a talk on customer service. read more

What a beautiful facility. Lots of knowledgeable staff on-hand ready to answer questions and help with merchandise--is a big change from the old location. Range time is fairly priced. I don't see the appeal of membership at this time...not enough perks to justify for now? I am thrilled to have a local place to keep "current" with my carry-pistol and handguns, that isn't a "members only/gotta know someone" club (ugh!) Like another poster, I wish they had a resident gunsmith for repairs, sights, triage of feeder problems, customization, etc. I also don't understand the AR obsession, as they are cheap-n-easy to fiddle with yourself, but to each their own. Prices are fair for some items, high for others, but gotta make $ somehow. :o) P.S. I shouldn't mention it, I am terrible, but...as I am turning 40 and will get to start calling myself a cougar in a few years, I just have to add: some of the employees are very easy on the eyes! I had to mention this to my husband--he just rolled his eyes skyward. Heh! /Hides read more

I have reviewed 2 other rifle ranges and I have been to many more in this area. My wife and I have been shooting for years, and we would consider ourselves good, but not tactical military good. We waited a long time for this place to open and we were not disappointed, it has: 1) Knowledgeable staff 2) Clean, well ventilated / lit shooting lanes 3) Variety of gun courses for new to advanced 4) Guns for rent 5) Excellent variety of guns and knives 6) Gun accessories and shooting supplies Memberships are very expensive, or I would give A3, 5 stars. It's a large store and can be intimidating for a person new to firearms, but the people will put you at ease. Trust me when I say that this is a great place if you are a novice. read more

In my opinion customers should be treated with kindness and respect. The instructor literally called me "stupid". Now, I fully admit that may be true when it comes to my experience with firearms, but maybe there's a more accurate word for it, I would say inexperience or beginner. I came to learn, to get better, not to pay money for your class to get insulted. Tell me, would a stupid person pay money for a class to get better? Haha, no, I don't think so :) I suggest you spend some time learning how to be a human, to see things through the eyes of others, and realize we were all beginners once. Yes, it may boggle your mind, but people can see and feel when they are being treated poorly, and it does not reflect well, at all, on your character, when you are so rude to others. It says more about yourself, than it does the person you are insulting. Good luck, I hope you improve the quality of your instructors. read more

This is a great place for classes, to practice shooting, to buy accessories, and, of course, to get guns. The one-on-one lessons are fantastic (thanks, Ethan!). The staff was also really helpful in bringing down guns from the wall to allow us to get a feel for which gun felt best in our hands (thanks, Cody!). Their focus on safety is also really reassuring without taking away the enjoyment. And they have some nice t-shirts, as well! I definitely plan to return. read more

This is by far my favorite gun store. I've been involved in shooting sports and firearms for 10 years and I can honestly say that this is the most well rounded stores I've come across. They have a very nice and knowledgeable staff who are always there to talk. They frequently stock hard to find guns and have a beautiful facility. It's become my favorite hangout after moving to Ann Arbor this summer. Prices are pretty decent especially for members. Would recommend anyone from seasoned shooters to someone picking up their first firearm. I continue to be impressed every visit and will gladly spend my money here in the future. read more

Best range in SE Michigan! I love any shooting facility that puts safety and people first!

I don't usually write reviews. However, I must say what a huge disappointment Ann Arbor arm is. The new facility is great! The staff......... A bunch of people that are way full of themselves and need to understand that there are other people that know how to handle firearms. The "safety" video is a complete insult!!!! Having range officers ....insulting. Sorry but I'll continue to drive 45 minutes away to a better range with outstanding people!!!! Get a grip!!! read more

I visited Ann Arbor Arms for the first time with my girlfriend and friend from work, and we had a great time. I've never shot a gun before, and was curious about the experience; my friend recommended this local establishment and I was excited about the opportunity. The building looks like a warehouse from the outside, but is extremely clean and well-maintained on the inside. Frankly, I've never seen so many varied guns in my life. I was a little apprehensive about what to pick/what to do, but the staff was really helpful in walking me through the process. We ended up splitting the cost of a pistol rental, safety glasses and an ammunition pack for around $72 total. The first thing you'll notice when you enter the range is the deafening sound of gunfire; it's unlike anything I've ever experienced. Every instinct in my body screamed danger, but the other customers looked calm (and even a little bored!) Our group alternated shots, and it was a pretty exciting activity! Overall, I definitely recommend visiting Ann Arbor Arms if you're a novice like me, though I think I've had my fill of guns for a while. read more
