Second time ordering from Anmol (hey, my other half is out of town so I can eat what I like). This time I had nihari, paratha, and doodh dulari. I now understand why nihari is so popular. Meaty, spicy, flavorful, and rich, it's everything a comfort food should be. My order included two big chunks of boneless beef and a generous bowl of slightly thick sauce as well as a package of garnishes and salad. The beef was perfectly tender, easily shredded with a fork. The sauce is spicy, but the spiciness didn't overpower the other flavors (black pepper? Cardamom, cloves, onion). I added lemon and shredded ginger from the garnishes. Doodh dulari (custard enriched with jello, fruit, and milk-based sweets) reminds me of Midwestern potluck desserts, the difference being that doodh dulari actually tastes good. It's the kind of thing where you want to keep taking just another bite until you realize that you've eaten too much. I think Anmol is going to be my go-to place for nights when I don't want to cook. Our waiter erica was very nice and very helpful. We ordered chicken makhani , palak paneer , chicken biyarani, beef nihari and garlic naan. Had a bit of everything. This is a very solid and clean place compared to other places on Devon Ave. I ate there twice and both times - no stomach problems like after some other indian places where you never know... If you plan a party with no alcohol - this is a safe bet. Food is superb and served pretty fast. They do not serve or allow to bring alcohol, so that may be a deal breaker. Very limited drinks - no decaf tee, like jasmine or camomile - only regular tea, that they call Chai and serve it with milk (you can order green or black tea without milk - and that it pretty much it). They serve some yogurt shakes which I do not care much about and of course some soda. Service can be annoying. For example I was talking to other guests at the table telling a story and two waiters interrupted me to ask if they can take away my plate. On the bright side- our waitress was very helpful and made some useful suggestions. Huge serving of Pakora. Rather small curry vegetable dishes. Chicken barbecues are the best out there. The place is usually very quiet and empty (probably because no alcohol served. Lots of room and vacant tables - may feel desolate. I will go again, since their food is so delish. read more

Once you enter, it really is a downer. The decor is really depressing and it's really lonely. I've been there a couple of times. On a regular day for lunch, it's stranded. But when you go for dinner, it gets filled up a little.I went there for iftar recently and it literally felt like I was standing in a fish market. It is really small and there were waiters passing around us, people talking loudly, and food dropping. I highly rave about the food and it's amazing. I definelty recommend the chicken pakora! Had day off from work and decided to take a drive to Anmol. I drove by a couple of times, but never went in until this afternoon. I am glad I did. I don't know why people are so into decor. I go for the quality of food not so much decor. The place is clean, and the guy at counter was sweet and very helpful. I was dining alone so I didn't want to get a whole plate of meat. I was recommended the lamb biryani and it was delicious. The amount of biryani for the money is worth it because I had leftovers for the next day. I was a bit full to try the desserts, the kulfi, kheer and halwa look so tempting. I will probably go for a light dinner and dessert next time. Is that possible? The chai is yummy and good way to end your meal. Anyhow, service was polite, food was great. I will go back for sure. read more

First time dining here last sunday with my hubby and mom in law.. We ordered malai chicken and platter number one with rice and naan... Malai chicken has the perfect blend of spices and its good for my mom in law who doesnt like spicy food.. Platter number 1 consist of mutton chops, grilled tilapia, chicken shaskik and bihari kabab.. Hubby said the mutton chops were great and i loved the fish and chicken but the bihari kabab was too spicy that would be my least favorite from the platter.. The service was good and the manager or owner keeps on checking on us if we need anything.. We will definitely be back coz among the other restaurants along devon this is probably one of the best.. They couldn't of made it any clearer This is the third time I have had a bad experience with a Pakistani (Muslim) restaurant. Never again for us. We are sticking to Indian places from now on. We enter the business on 10/20/16, at about 6:30pm. Place is empty. There seems to be some type of older gentleman that appears to be the manager/owner behind the counter that was giving us a nasty look as soon as we walked in. One of his employees sat down two tables away from us and was laughing at us. He kept looking at us , and back at the manager and laughing! We look over at the manager/owner, and he is angrily shaking his head at us. Who does that? What type of manager/owner angrily shakes his head at the customers? What did we do to deserve that? We are both white, wwere dressed very nice, greeted everyone politely. Well excuse me for walking into your restaurant . I didn't know it was this type of place. Excuse me for wanting to support your business. Never again. I grew up in the restaurant business, and what you did today is wrong. You need to learn to treat ALL of your customers equally. Me and my girlfriend got up, told the younger gentleman that was laughed at us a sarcastic "thank you" and walked away. I stick to what I said. Never going to a Pakistani restaurant again. This review is merely an honest one...We were advised by a friend to try this establishment. The good reviews on Yelp concurred with our friend's opinion, so we thought we'd give this place a try. But, we were rather disappointed in doing so. Upon our arrival, the older man at the front desk and the female waiter, looked at my partner and I blankly. Neither smiled nor offered a greeting. There was simply no, "Hello, how many?" So with one word I emphatically said: "Two." We were then led to a table. The server who tended to us, seemed fairly polite throughout our stay. The food: the Lamb Karahai lacked depth of flavor; the Parathas were surprisingly hard; and our after dinner Tea, was not at all creamy. On the plus side: the Mutton Chops were quite soft and flavorful and the Ras Malai was rich and nutty. The setting too, is trendy, which may appeal to some. We however, are used to a more divey place along Devon Street, whose dishes never fail to please. I am not naming that place, as I am not trying to spark competition... Upon leaving a generous tip (due to our server), and walking out, again the older man at the front desk and female waiter, neither bade us a thank you nor a good night. Both could learn from our server, a lesson or two in politeness. So, our lesson learned: We will not be returning. read more

Literally came to this place for the first time on my way to the ORD airport because I wanted to know what the hype was about. I call the place and ask for their most popular item. I am in a rush. He tells me "it's gonna take 30 minutes, beta." No more, no less. I bargain and ask if he can do it quicker because of my flight. He says no. He says these kababs are made in the tandoor (clay oven) with the naan. I did not understand why kababs would take so long to make- I eat at desi spots all the time. Anyway I get to the spot, am still waiting for my chicken boti kabab roll. I decide to order Kashmiri pink chai in the meantime. Chai was bomb- had nut chunks at the bottom of the cup (authentic, fresh). Kabab roll gets ready within the 30 minute time frame given. Kababs are this dope mix between traditional desi flavors and modern American BBQ, all very subtle flavors. In fact I ate the roll like 8 hours after buying it, and it was STILL amazing. I am coming back to this place for kababs. If you are in a rush and just wanna try this joint, go for the chicken boti roll. The food here is good and on some nights beyond good. The appeal here is late hours. I had to order different spice strength at different times because we had our niece with us and they delivered. Simply put, I would not go back to this place. The food took forever and still wasn't up to par. The grill platter which showed up after 35 mins. still had meat that was under cooked. When we told the waiter about it (and pointed this out to the owner too) they didn't seem to bat an eyelid. The gravies, one could tell, were reheated from the previous night. The meat was tough and was way overcooked in some instances. Read "canned sauces" in between the lines. Overall, nothing great. Just an ordinary joint that doesn't give its customers any reason to return. These guys might have been good in their hay day but have most certainly passed their prime. I came to this restaurant on one warm summer night last year. I had never been to an Indian restaurant before and wasn't sure what to expect. DISCLAIMER: jaywalking on Devon is SCARY- be careful! My one cultured friend took care of all the ordering; we had chicken biryani, chicken tikka, and of course, the legendary NAAN. The first thing I noticed as a n00b was obviously all the spices that are used and how spicy the food was! Thank God for my ice water! I am a chicken-a-holic and was in love with both dishes. Chicken biryani is essentially yummy Indian fried rice. I also ate the naan as if it was water. The chicken tikka was my favorite; they were chicken wings that were red hot spicy. Also, the service here is spectacular; there are waiters literally waiting for us to finish eating to clear our tables. One of the quieter and nicer restaurants on Devon, probably because it's several blocks west of the main Indian / Pakistani area of Devon St. Prices are not much higher than most. My only concern is that it never seems too busy, and I hope they can keep it afloat because the food is great. Their Bihari kabobs are particularly good; many restaurants miss on this dish. Another thing that sets them apart is service - many of the Devon street sit-down restaurants have subpar waiter service, but Anmol servers are very attentive. Nice work guys, keep it up! read more

After hearing good reviews from friends, we finally tried out Anmol today. We went around 6 pm Monday evening and the restaurant had no patrons besides just one couple. It's on the west side of Devon with not much going on around the area, so we were a little skeptical when entering thinking maybe those reviews were over-hyped. Well we couldn't be more wrong. After much debate, we decided to go with two combination platters. The wait was minimal and food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. What can I say? Everything was just delicious. The BBQ meats were tender and flavorful without being overwhelmingly spicy. And the portions were huge! I think between two people one combination platter is just enough and maybe a vegetarian option with that. The combination platter have different varieties of kebabs and grilled meats. Each and everything was perfectly done. Service was excellent as well with our server checking on us regularly without being overbearing. I think Anmol takes the cake over many other 'well-known' Pakistani restaurants on Devon. Their drawback is their location. I wouldn't have known the restaurant existed had it not been for the word of mouth. I feel if the word gets out enough they would have a line out the door. Food is good, service is good....you can't say that a lot for many Indian/Pakistani restaurants. Definitely give it a try- you wouldn't regret it. A bonus- since its far away from all the hustle bustle of Devon street, parking is really easy to find. read more

Very satisfied with the food and service at Anmol. Went here on a whim looking for a break from our regular stops on the eastern half of Little India. Very pleasantly surprised! The wait staff was polite and service was prompt. The dishes were delicious - with the Malai Kofta and Special Chicken Kahrrai as my favorites. The Kahrrai was especially memorable - with deep, complex flavors and ingredients. The grilled fish was a little dry, but still tasty. Definitely planning to return in the near future. read more
