This was my second time at this restaurant. The service is quick and efficient, and there is no waiting time. The ambiance is pretty chill, and nobody is rushing to leave. This place is surprisingly DELIGHTFUL! We went here this past weekend bc we drive by it all the time and was looking for a lunch spot after spending the whole morning in the hot sun. When we walked in, I was impressed by how clean, well lit, modern, and airy the place was. Large windows and cute green tabletop plants really warm up the place but the neutral gray tone made it all super chic! This sounds silly but I knew I loved this place the moment I took a sip of my ginger ale. It tasted like it had a splash of vanilla in it. It was super refreshing and delicious. The menu has so much I wanted to try it all. Everything was very reasonably priced! Wraps for under $10! My husband and I opted for the mezza plate for two so we could try everything. Again, super reasonably priced meal. It would definitely feed three people, we took leftovers home. I love how they brought out the cold plate first before the hot plate so that we could munch quickly bc we were so hungry. The tabbouli was delicious. So was the chicken. Misleading. Called ahead and asked what portion size the mixed mezza platter. It was 40.00 and he said it was appropriate for four people. You decide where to spend your money I guess. I would've have paid 75-100$ if it was for food appropriate for four people. That's too bad. read more

Only seating upstairs today. Sat by the window. We were instructed to sit in any seat with a plant on top of the table. They have an outside patio here too. We wanted the the mixed mezza, but they won't sub the lamb and beef kafta for chicken, the waitress explained everything is portioned out and no subs allowed. Seems rather rigid and obtuse if you ask me. My hubby said he would eat all of the beef and lamb kafta in the mixed mezza. Yet they were able to give us all veggie grape leaves instead half meat and half veggie. Whatever. We also ordered the lemon lentil, my favorite version is from this restaurant in Ferndale. It helps that they only have abs serve the flat pita bread in the baggies here, it's not fresh and bought. Temptation thwarted. The tabouli, Fattoush, hummus and pickled veggies are out first. The hummus is okay, small, not enough for the meat to come. The Fattoush salad is small for two people to share as well. It's all fresh otherwise. Spoke too soon, some nasty looking tomatoes and way too many romaine veins in the salad too. Their Fattoush as whole is more like what you would get in Greece or in Eastern Europe, more veggies and less lettuce or romaine. The pickled veggies are good as is the tabouli. They only give you two grape leaves with the mixed mezza anyways. One meat and one veggie for two people, does that make any sense. No one person eats an entire mixed mezza platter, do they? I heard another waitress explain to another table that the mixed mezza is big enough to feed 3 people, really? The shawarma meat is all cold, how nice. It tastes good and is flavorful, just cold. :/ The chicken kebab is okay, not dry, but grisly, sinewy and gross. The mixed mezza should come with the small lemon lentil for the price. Food was subpar to average. Service was decent. They have a full bar, staff is friendly. They are practicing social distancing as well. read more

I used a Groupon and it was easy to use but they did need a manager for me to be able to pay upon pick up. Everyone appeared clean, well-groomed, and friendly. I Finally had a chance to eat at this location. It's been a while since I ate at the Ferndale location. There's not many options in or around the Lake Orion / Oxford area for Middle Eastern food. My wife and I didn't have a reservation but our wait wasn't bad. (about 20 minutes as promised by the hostess) The middle eastern fare here is prepared using fresh and wholesome ingredients. We started with the fried cauliflower appetizer. (Tip: go with the zip sauce. It's amazing and not overly spicy) I ordered the baked Kibbeh that is served with tabbouli, fresh hummus and very tasty rice pilaf. The Kibbeh was good. My wife ordered the gyro plate that she thought was just ok. All in all our food was good but not great. I'll return to sample other entrees in the near future. It's great to have this local restaurant where the staff appreciates your business and that translates into their service. read more

I'm so disgusted. We ate here tonight and both mine and my daughter's chicken was raw. She ate a whole tender before I noticed and then I checked the other two and they were translucent. This is so dangerous. When I called the woman on the phones response was "well I didn't cook it" and "im just surprised because the chicken is pre-cooked".. well it's obviously not. As someone who works in downtown Detroit, I'm very familiar with Anita's Kitchen and it is my go-to place when I don't bring my own lunch because it's absolutely delicious! I always knew that there was one in downtown Lake Orion as well, but every time I've visited downtown Lake Orion, the people I'm with have opted to go to Sagebrush over anything else more often than not, so it's taken me a while to finally try the AK in LO! The result was pretty good! It's only 12 minutes away from me, so it was perfect to place an order for pick up right before I left. The service is so fast and efficient and there is a separate door for pick up orders, which is awesome. It's best to come here with someone else in the car though who can quickly hop out to pick up the food because parking is tight in this area (either street parking, which is normally all full, or hovering in a space / parking lot reserved for another nearby business eek! All in all, the food is solid. The chicken shawarma I got tasted a bit off to me, which is odd because it's my go-to order at the downtown Detroit location. The quality of their food in general was a bit subpar compared to Detroit, which is why I'm giving it four stars. Also, I opted to add extra garlic sauce to my sandwich, and there was barely any in there, which was a bit disappointing especially because I do have to pay extra for this. They offer the same items for the most part at both, so I will definitely try them again in a bit perhaps to see if my day was just a fluke or not, but in general, I'll stick to the consistently delicious one in Detroit! I'm happy seeing so many more AK's popping up everywhere though (even in the McNamara terminal at DTW!) and for all the vegan friendly options! :) read more

Wow - what a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant! I live in Charleston, SC and come to Anita's whenever I visit Lake Orion. The food is fabulous and the restaurant is bright and cheerful. I love the rooftop area in the warm weather. The staff is super friendly too. Today is stopped in by myself and sat at the bar for a quick snack. They have taken an underutilized building in downtown and transformed it into a hip atmosphere. Even with a carry out item due to the pandemic, the food was outstanding. Had dinner there yesterday. As a Mediterranean restaurant and seeing I've eaten this style of food for 40 years, their take on it was different. The shawarma was served almost in a gravy like grayish coating ? The chicken shawarma was equally in impressive. Only good proteins were the kabobs. Rice was far too soggy and over cooked, the majadra was equally disappointing. Way over cooked and lacked the proper plating. Overall not what we expected and left totally underwhelmed. The portion size was good, the flavors were good - it's just like a Big Mac which is a "good" hamburger to me. Katie: The restaurant is decorated in a super cute way. We walked in and ordered our food and it was at our table in less than 10 minutes. The staff was very helpful and kind and the portions were rather large - I have a whole meal for tomorrow. Remember when you could grab lunch for $10-$15? Well thanks to Covid those days went bye-bye. Now a days lunch is $15-$25 for something healthy and decent. I felt slightly annoyed to see most lunch options were $10+ but I'm happy to report that my chicken shawarma bowl at $14 was really really good. I've been here a few times and it's always been great! I love Mediterranean food - probably my favorite... here it's always fresh and delicious... the salmon is cooked perfectly every time. They must have a sous vide secret happening because it's seriously so consistently great. If it's nice out, sit upstairs on the patio. I enjoy the shawarma sandwich. I don't get the whole having lettuce in it, but whatever - I can remove that easily. It's a bit higher of a price than other establishments in the area which is honestly the only reason I'm not here bi-weekly. With my love of shawarma, the higher price adds up quickly when I'm ordering 2 at a time. I can get the same sandwich, which tastes comparable, for $4.50-$5 within a 10 mile radius. Tucked away in downtown Lake Orion in a sleek new space Anita's brings some needed spice(s) to the area. Mrs. Al H and I cut to the chase and ordered the sampler of hot and cold dishes. She knew her way around the menus but me not so much. The perfect solution? Order everything. It was a ton of food well presented and super flavorful. Grape leaves, shish kabob all the faves for those in the know. I was eating like I was going to the chair. Service was great. Opt for upstairs which is slightly more formal yet totally cool.
